I've lived in Snohomish for 10 years and I can't believe today was the first time I've been in this gem of a store. Everybody was extremely helpful and nice! It all started with Chris assisting me with my purchase of the Traeger smoker/grill. He never once treated me like a "girl"... he answered all my questions and shared great information! I appreciated he attention and customer service. They helped me load the grill in my SUV by unscrewing the shelf to make it fit. Here's where this part of the story is important... I was driving away (almost out of the parking lot) and I see the guy (sorry, didn't catch his name) who was helping Chris load the grill in my car running next to me. I roll down my window and he tries to hand me the Phillips Screwdriver. He was afraid that I was going to get home and not have the tool to put the shelf back on! Wow! Cody, as I shared with you, my father's words of wisdom are: We are humans,and make mistakes. When it's pointed out to us, how we respond dictates to the world who we are. You failed miserably. Things can happen, but making promises and verifying that promise for a replacement when you delivered the wrong order, to begin with and when you fail to follow up as promised,, is on you, not the customer. When calling to verify the delivery 2 days past the promised date, it takes 15 minutes to tell the customer you need a couple of minutes to find the order and promise a callback, and an hour later, while landscapers are waiting, a second call is placed. I waited 2 hours for that follow-up call when I called you. All the excuses do not equal taking action. The important piece of this was that this was a very special Christmas presentation that used these lights. My wife started this. Since my wife's passing, this will be the first time they have not been up. This is also the first time all my children and grandchildren will be together. Your lack of basic customer service just ruined a long-running family tradition. I was not asking for a miracle; I was asking for just plain customer service. You and 3 of your employees failed. read more

I just want to say, recommend for anyone to come here. At McDaniels they have more than just the average hardware store. They have the stuff that normal hardware stores would have, and much more. Wow. I can't say enough about the fantastic help I got from Vicki at Mc Daniels. She really knows her craft and was able to solve an issue that I had wasted hours trying to solve. I just moved to Snohomish from Woodinville and discovered McDaniels. What an amazing store - they have what you need or will find it for you. I had to replace a damaged shower handle at the house I had just moved into. After many trips to several "big Box" stores, and a few smaller hardware stores I was convinced I would never find the right replacement. I even tried a commercial plumbing supply company, and extensive searches online. Not any of them could even identify the broken handle I brought with me or tell me how to find a replacement. So, off to McDaniels I went, and within a few minutes Vicki had not only identified the manufacturer of the handle, but went to work finding me a replacement. She contacted the manufacturer for me and reminded them the unit I had came with a "lifetime warranty" and she arranged for a replacement to be sent at no charge! This is the definition of excellent customer service, and is why shoppers like me become very loyal supporters of local businesses who go the extra mile for their customers. I love this place!! Very friendly and helpful staff EVERYTIME I visit. They have a large and unique outdoor plant section that is fun to browse. If you don't see a plant you want, or have any questions...ask them! If they don't know the answer or they don't have it in stock, they will write down your info and get you an answer. I wanted to know what the beautiful plant was at Andy's Fish House was...and they found out for me! As a woman, it can be difficult to find a hardware store that is respectful when you need assistance. Not only are the employees here respectful...they ask questions to make sure that their recommendations are as accurate as possible without making you feel like an idiot. This is the place to go if you have basic questions on home repairs/ gardening or basic house care! I have had two outstanding experiences here, one is with their garden lead who helped me find the perfect annuals for my deck. She took the time to make sure I had everything I needed and fully understood all of my options. Her service lead to a $50 dollar sale, which 4 months later I still love. The second was in electrical with "T", she is a wonderful lady who really knows her stuff. Although my purchase did not work out (returned it as I found a different model elsewhere) she was very knowledgeable about bathroom fans and took the time to listen. I greatly appreciate her help and will return to McDaniels because of these two outstanding employees. The cashiers are also friendly and efficent. I love the home-town feel of this location and dont mind paying a little extra (there prices can be higher, but can also be average) for service that really cares when it comes to something as important as do-it-yourself home repairs. read more

My wife and I just went into McDaniel's to get some spare valet keys made for our daughter's 2005 Subaru Outback where we had the anger-inducing experiencing of having to deal with "Bill". From the moment he walked out of the back he was smarmy, insulting, and rude. He insulted our choice of vehicle and then proceeded to tell us that he would make the keys for us "if we wanted to be stupid enough to ruin the car and end up having it towed to a dealer for very expensive repairs". When asked why he was making this ridiculous claim he said it was because a valet key was only intended to "open the car", not start it. When asked how a valet was going to park my car if he couldn't start it with the valet key, Bill just got even more ridiculously smarmy. This is when I finally lost my temper with him and asked him to explain just why the valet key would cause damage to the ignition. His assertion was that keys intended to start a vehicle have electronics in them that talk to the ignition and that without that 'communication' it would damage the car. A 2005 Subaru Outback DOESN'T HAVE THAT TYPE OF SYSTEM IN THE IGNITION! It's a pin-based ignition switch that merely needs a key with the correct profile. The only limitations of a valet key are that they don't open the glove box or the trunk...they are MADE TO START THE VEHICLE. Bill must be one of the owners, or be related to the owners...it's the only explanation I can conceive of that would allow him to be this obnoxious and still remain employed. We left without the keys because we suspected that Bill might make the keys badly just to make his point. I will NEVER go back to McDaniel's as long as they condone this type of employee. read more

Every town should envy the example of McDaniel's Do-It-Best in Snohomish. Lucky to have such adept and courteous staff, such a meticulously clean and well-organized store and everything a patron might need. Here the mask issue isn't an issue at all because customer and merchant recognize the friendships and trust in the relationship by way of smiling eyes perched above the protection. Our daughter lives in Snohomish and the first place she sent our grandson to apply for work at 16 was McDaniel's. We have always come here from a nearby town to shop instead of the big box stores. They are always friendly and helpful BUT in these days of Covid19 I find they are lax in enforcement. Checkers mostly don't wear masks, people are crowded in sometimes someone is limiting customers sometimes not. Seems the crowd they attract enjoy this type of shopping of no one way lanes and 6' spacing however as for me and mine we are not going to be customers! read more

For the location, the informed staff, friendliness, etc, EXCELLENT. They spent plenty of time trying to find the proper belt for an old riding mower and I am glad they did. Without complaints, they kept store open additional 25minutes for just myself to finish finding the part I needed and double-checking. Mixed experience here. I came in at the recommendation of the company that made the part I was seeking. They had McDaniel's listed among locations that consumers could buy from. That's how I even knew to go to McDaniel's in the first place. After talking online with the company, Amerock, I received an email from them for the suggested replacement part. I went to McDaniel's with that information and after about 15 minutes of searching myself and not finding the exact part number, I went to the desk and the folks there were super helpful. As I recall, a nice woman who was in the middle of something referred me to another, equally nice woman. Apparently, there was something kind of difficult about finding the hinge by part number that I had been given as a replacement from Amerock, but after some searching and consultation with other clerks, she found a solid replacement. I was then given a ticket and told to give the order to the clerk on my way out, which I did. The clerk at the checkout station said I'd be given a call when it was ready. I ended up having some personal stuff plus work intervene and lost track of time and after weeks, I realized I still hadn't heard about the hinge (they may have called but I didn't have any messages on my cell or home phone). I called to follow up and from the minute I called, I got the impression I wasn't going to get any help like I did the first time. * The staff that answered the phone checked to see if there was anything outstanding for my name and also checked with the owner to see if he "remembered" my order (some memory!!) but nothing. Her tone sounded very "nothing-I-can-do" from the get go. * I got the feeling I wasn't believed when I said I had ordered this before from them and got the classic, "I'm not sure whom you could have talked to but we have nothing here" even though I explained that I quite literally was given a ticket and stopped at the clerk's on the way out to order. In the final event, I was told to go try Amazon. Wow. Very mixed customer experience and has me not wanting to go back or recommend them to anyone else. read more

They have a better variety - sizes, grades, types - and they make it easy to buy a few or a lot. 4 stars for electrical. They have one or two of everything - but sometimes I need three. 3 stars for paint. The paint gal must have had a bad day - wasn't interested in answering questions or smiling. Paint was not great but the stain was great. Overall 4 stars. I value the service and that it is locally owned - so I make the trip and pay a little more. read more

At McDaniels you are greeted at the front and noticed by a customer rep within seconds and offered help like you were the first customer of the day. The only real hardware store in Snohomish has always been McDaniel's Do-It Center. Recently a big Home Depot moved to town. I tend to favor independent merchants over giant corporate stores. But a recent experience has forced me to reevaluate my hardware store preference. I was browsing McDaniels for drills, nails, and various other Freudian items, and noticed something in the air. It was the music playing over the store speaker. It sound like your basic easy-listening retail store fare, but as I listened closer I realized it was just that Christian-flavored music. I am a very religious person, but I am not really a fan of for-profit, nominally-Christan genre. But no big deal....until the song stopped. Then I heard something that started with 'Here at McDaniel's we are awesome blah blah blah". It was a commercial sandwiched in between the 'praise the lords'. Yechhh. Remember why Jesus chased the merchants out of the temple with a whip of ropes (of course you do)? It was kind of like that. But instead of performing commerce in a house of worship, they were leveraging their religious proclivities to push their retail engine. It was just gross. So I finished up with what I was there to buy and left. read more

This hardware store still maintains that local, non box store, kind of feel. The employees are always helpful. Check out is always quick. And they always seem to have exactly what I'm looking for. For example I recently went in there because the handle assembly broke on one of the toilets in my home. I was helped immediately, and since I hadn't fixed a toilet in many, many, years I asked for a tutorial. She gave me the run down and once home I had the toilet fixed within minutes following the directions she gave me. A great local business that I highly reccomend. read more

I had always heard good things about McDaniels Do It Center, so I expected a friendly atmosphere. I was not disappointed! I went in today for the first time to look at their line of Stihl chainsaws. I was asked multiple times if I could be helped, after doing my initial review on my own I took Kevin up on his offer to assist. Kevin spent 15 minutes with me going through chainsaws asking questions and providing guidance. After I made my selection, Kevin took the time to go out back and start the unit up to verify it runs correctly. He then walked me to the cashier, helped with the registration, and then showed me how to start and operate the chainsaw. This type of assistance is simply not found at the big box stores. read more

As a non-mechanically inclined person who worked at the front desk of a maintenance shop in town, I can't tell you how much I came to appreciate McDaniels. You'll never walk in without being greeted quickly and offered help, and knowledgeable help at that. Went to return item never used. Cashier who was friendly called for authorization. Woman came and told me the 90 day policy and refused to return or exchange/store credit. I had no problem returning anything there before and I proceeded to tell her that Home Depot, Lowe's gives store credit. She just was not interested to hear any of it. I have always been greeted by the friendliest people and I feel like I am in a place that is a real part of the community, not a huge corporate entity. My fave is the plants.
