I initiated this request on 8/24 as I lost the key to my mailbox and would like to open it and replace the lock. Saar, the technician came out the same day and, despite quoting a pretty steep price (~$400 for opening and replacing the lock), he was already there so I gave him the go ahead. He proceeded to use a screwdriver to jam open the bail box (instead of picking opening the lock) which promptly damaged the door. Needless to say, I could have jammed open the mailbox with a screw driver if that was his best solution. He took out the cylinder o the old lock and didn't actually have one that would fit. Ok so far. He took it and said he would be back tomorrow with one that did. Before leaving, he had me pay $200 for half the service (which was clearly a mistake on my part to agree). Over the next few days, after me having to keep texting him, he said he was having trouble finding the right size cylinder (who knows...). On 8/26 I reached out to Alex at Ace Locksmith (who initiated the service) to see if he could jump in and help. On 8/27 I offered to then buy a new mail box (given that the old one is not only unlocked but somewhat damaged now) and he just replace it. He asked for the old cylinder and I told him his technician had it (by now it is already 8/29, 5 days later and I still have an open mailbox in SF...). I hold him his person had it. I did not hear back. On 9/2 I contact him again, nothing. On 9/3 I suggested again that I or he (and I would reimburse him) buy a new mail box and he just come replace the now damaged and non-functional one or, if he couldn't do that, that he tell me so and reimburse me for part of the fee I paid for the job that was never completed. It is now 9/5 (more than 10 days later) and I have not heard back from Alex nor have i received my payment back. I would say there are plenty of locksmiths around, DO NOT use Ace as the quality of the work was dubious to begin with (damaging the mail box with a screwdriver) and, if ANYTHING is not cookie cutter you might end up with a job left undone. IF you use them, only pay at the very end when the job is completed as agreed. read more

Adam, a young man from Ukraine, speaks excellent English and did excellent work. He worked diligently and with skill, rekeyimg each lock separately and replacing one of the deadbolts at modest additional cost. I used this locksmith and the results were horrible. My door could not be opened. The locksmith that came out could not open door and it ended up costing me $359 to break my lock. I paid it, no choice, I am diabetic. I left my apartment, locked it, and then came back,opened it and retrieved an umbrella. I locked and left again. The locksmith that came blocked the door with a rolled up rug stored inside of my apartment with his attempts to open door handle from inside. The rug was about 2 feet in front of door when finally opened. None of his methods worked. He kept calling someone. The wire he tried to hook handle with moved rug out of place. He smashed the lock beyond repair. A new lock costing $530 was put in place. So, for leaving my keys in Uber, after attending a wake for my uncle, this cost me around $890. I know that I lost my keys. But to PAY a locksmith $360 to break a lock? I had to leave a star in the rating. Otherwise it would not be any. read more

Alex really helped me out of a jam tonight. I locked my steering wheel with my club, as I always have, not realizing I'd left the key for it at home which was 100 miles away from SF and had no way to get it. Alex was super cool and was able to get to me really fast. After verifying ownership of my car he hopped to work on removing the club and did a very clean job of it. Alex, in partnership with his colleague Noah, went above and beyond to get me back into my Toyota Tacoma after I lost the only key I had to the truck on a trip. They knew all the tricks to find the key code buried somewhere inside the vehicle and saved me the key code cost from the factory. They also reset my existing door lock only key to work with the chip code so I basically got 2 new keys.
