Note: just moved around here literally yesterday 7/26 with my wife. ACME Markets is what I'd call a "convenience over conquest" type of grocery store. Is it pristine? No. Is it Trader Joe's charming? Not really. But is it right down the street from me with decent inventory and zero cart jousting in crowded aisles? Absolutely. But that's really all it has to- distance and inventory is solid. Everything else... Inside of Store: The store layout is actually pretty spacious. I didn't feel like I had to do yoga to grab a carton of eggs. Inventory? Decent. Not every shelf was Instagram-ready, but I found what I needed. Checkout? No horror stories here. Did self checkout. Though, to be fair, I didn't test the customer service waters -- I was on a stealthy mission after reading the reviews. I predict when I do deal with them (and yes I can speak Spanish too, just like my mandarin), I'll test it out and come back with an updated one because... there is no room for any of that. Items, Food and Prices: Prices made me do a double take. Some of the produce looked like it needed emotional support, but was priced like it had a spa day. I went with Roma tomatoes because the regular ones... not worth it. Save farmers market Fridays for your vegetables. We got a cilantro because... why not but that was even above average I've seen. Some chips, exact ones are almost 40% off either online or through other channels. Trader Joe's in South Bay Mountain View, Ca had better prices, by a mile. Addressing other reviews: I've read the concerns about staff interactions -- while I didn't experience any of that myself, I also didn't engage with any. I won't speak for others' experiences, but I will say that management should definitely read these reviews and reflect. Perception matters, and I believe they are doing right by making people self check more, but it was clear the place didn't have a strong management structure. I am looking forward to the day I speak to any of the customer service people. If they want to go toe to toe in Spanish - Leggo. I'll come here and explain exactly what they said. Bottom line: Come here if you live nearby, have low grocery store drama tolerance, and want a clean enough place that doesn't require crossing a river. Don't come expecting Costco joy or Trader Joe's wizardry. Bonus tip: If you're buying avocados, squeeze wisely. Some are ready for guac. Others are ready for retirement. Same goes for any of the produce read more

I was supposed to get a delivery order. It didn't show up ans app said it was in progress. Had to call 4 times because call kept dropping. It took about 25 min to get an answer. " somethings wrong and we cant process your order." I said hold on, checked my credit card.....it was charged. He said he would issue a refund " when he could". OK. Terrible service at the West New York,NJ location ! Why not have a couple registers open?? What's the point of having them, this is the only acme I go to that never has anyone at the register. Staff isn't friendly , and loves to watch everyone ring up there groceries. Self check out is always a mess. Had there be better customer service the self checkout wouldn't be chaotic. Also noticed certain produce had MOLD on it. Shelves aren't stocked. My business will be taken elsewhere! read more

Watch the prices, every trip something rings up the wrong price at the register. Some things are flat out mislabeled They refuse to enforce a no animal policy. It's like a fricking dog park in there on the weekend. Everytime there are dogs big and small throughout the store. This last trip alone there were 4 dogs at self check out. It's disgusting. If it wasn't for a matter of extreme convenience, being able to walk across the street to shop here- I would never set foot in the store again. 50 feet from my apartment and I still chose to drive done the road 15 mins from groceries when I have the time. read more

We have lived in the Port Imperial community for 5 years and shop at this ACME as our primary grocer. Today as I checked out, an employee came and stood directly in line-of-sight of me to watch. I asked "are you watching me?," to which they relied, "I'm doing my job." I understand loss prevention, but those employees posted at the self-checkout station COULD see themselves as offering assistance to shoppers AND preventing thefts. Both of these can exist at the same time. The fact that they see themselves as only preventing theft is a choice, and a bad one on management. My wife and/or I literally shop in this store DAILY (we have a school-age child, IYKYk) and in 5 years, we never have been made to feel like a regular in this store. We never get a hello, or any pleasantries. Just leering eyes. (Not true for all customers - we've witnessed this.) I would rather have a cashier check me out, but that's not an option. Why? They removed all cashiers. I hope they address this issue and retrain staff. The only advantage of this store is convenience considering there is a cleaner, better variety, better quality ACME 3 miles up the road. read more

I'm very disappointed in Acme market. When asking an employee a question, they always direct me to other employees or ignore the request entirely saying that they cannot help. The last time I went in, I put in a special order. And nobody knows what happened to my order. I was told to come back when the clerk that I put the order in was working. Why do I need to keep track of a clerks hours to come in to pick up my item Also, they constantly have empty shelves. Manager was not helpful either. To whom it may concern, I've witnessed some extremely rude customers berate a manager by the name of Belissa, and she handled each instance with professionalism in a calm demeanor. We live in a time that, for some reason people feel entitled to talk down to people that they believe are beneath them. This manager not only respected these people enough not to retaliate, but remain calm and try to de-escalate the situation that they felt was more important than just buying groceries. Every encounter I've had with this, Mgr. has been pleasant and enjoyable; she should also be praised for her professionalism. I also read some ridiculous reviews stating that they will record their next encounter with this manager so clearly they're going to try to instigate a situation, which is absurd and an issue of the times we live in. read more

The worst ACME ever!!! There is a lady who work there was extremely rude to their customers without any respect and I believe she was racial discrimination too. While customer ask her questions, she performed aggressive, rude, and impatient. She also hang up the call too. This is unbelievable and zero tolerance as a supermarket serve in this community. Rules of ACME: -At no point shall this dwelling be occupied by more than 17 people. -The hot bar is solely for employee consumption. -At no point shall any employee make voluntary eye contact with you. -Somehow it's always time for the Monopoly game. -The register in the back must never be open. -Paper bags are outlawed at all times. -Every item you purchase shall be placed in its own plastic bag, which is then placed within another plastic bag. At no time shall you walk out of the store without a number of bags greater than or equal to the number of items you purchased. They always have my Starbucks coffee and Baked Lays, but outside of that...how is this place still in business? There's never anyone here, and I feel like half of their monthly P&L is dominated by spend on plastic bags. read more

This Acme is convenient (in Port Imperial) but it isn't the best in terms of stock or customer service. I can never find everything on my list, and there's such few employees that it can be a waste of time to try and track one down. On weekends (especially Sunday afternoons and evenings) the produce section gets pretty picked over, and I can't tell you how many times I've tried to pick up a rotisserie chicken only to find that they are sold out. Even on the weekends, they only have two or three people at the checkout counters. Expect to wait as long as 15-20 minutes to pay. Although it's nice that the actual store isn't constantly crowded (like the Trader Joe's in Edgewater), it doesn't matter when the check out lines end up being packed. read more

This store location is super convenient to the port imperial apartments, however the store usually is a mess. The produce section is one of the worst. They are either out of produce or not fresh. The do have great specials on seafood and meats frequently, like BOGO - great for families. read more

I am beside myself on the management at this location. Today, Friday, December 29th there was a women by the name of Belissa or Melissa (not sure because she refused to give me her name so I had to ask around). She literally called me stupid. I need to understand if this the customer service Acme promotes in all their stores. Every time I go into this location and have any encounter with this manager she is always rude and confrontational. Today was the icing on the cake though, so I am writing this review and will be contacting every department for Acme Markets until someone is willing to make a change. I will also be videoing taping her the next time I have to work with her and will post on every social medial platform so all of Acme Markets headquarters implements better customer service skills in their employees, and in particular, their management team. read more

This place is super convenient but it is always a mess. They have forced customers to check themselves out while staff watches instead of running registers. When I asked why no registers were open the response was "because it's closed for the day". This at 7 pm. So for anyone shopping after working all day, you must now work at Acme and pay them for the pleasure. Plus the fish refrigerator always leaks and smells. I will not use except for the pharmacy going forward because it just isn't worth it. And please don't ask me to contact you. Complete Rip Off -zero stars This store is actually more expensive than whole foods and all delivery services i have lived and Weehawken for 12+ years now and thought I would try it one last time. Forget that everything's double the price than any other market most things are expired or expiring within 48 hours . I am a 70 year old woman and every time I have an encounter, with this manager, at this location, I leave in tears. She is utterly disrespectful and always insulting. Good market with fresh selection of fruits and vegetables. Slightly pricier than regular grocery stores but that's Acme for you. But you do get a lot of things under one roof. It's a great spot to shop for groceries if you live close to it. read more

My trip here was a standard grocery shopping experience. There's food and stuff; you buy it. This location is convenient as its directly connected to a parking garage. However my friends did complain about the cheese selection. If you need groceries and this is closest to you, use it. Its that simple. read more

The only reason i gave this grocery store two stars instead of one is just from sheer convenience to my apartment. Other than that i would rather drive the additional 2 miles to go to the other Acme in Edgewater or Target in that same complex. The food is never fresh. Twice I've purchased sweet potatoes that were bad and a weird texture once cooked. I was looking for vegetable broth this evening and found ONE YEAR OLD broth on the shelf. Like over one year!?? Smh. I visit this Acme 2 to 3 times a week. Today unpleasant visit wasn't the usual visit. I asked the customer care cashier to assist me with checking out. Because lines were long and only 2 open registers.I had less than 5 items. The young lady that was cashing me out bagged my dog food with my personal food. Explained to her that she shouldn't and also to make sure she bagged the meat in a separate bag. With a small attitude she said I know. I stated wanted to make sure because meats shouldn't be packed with other items. The manager Christine's then stated you should of just made the line and bagged your own bags. Positively the worst grocery store I have ever been in. This Acme location is dirty, produce wilted, limited surplus and very unfriendly and unattentive teenage cashiers. They are more interested in texting then looking up and saying "hello". If you are hungry and want lousy food then go to the hot bar and serve yourself. You will always run into a single employee or 5 of them also munching. No charge to "dine" as the stealing is now a joke. If the food was any good I might consider eating there on occasion too. One "good" point is the store is ALWAYS empty. The employee versus customer ratio is 20 to 1. I go out of my way to go shopping at Shop Rite in Hoboken as the place is way, way less expensive and massive selections and FRESH produce all the time. I live down the block from this Acme, but I would much rather drive (4 miles north to Whole Foods in Edgewater or 3.5 miles south to Shop Rite in Hoboken) to do my grocery shopping. This place is horrible, their produces is never fresh (their Habanero was moldy, fresh corn has their ends chopped off to hide the rotten bits), the meats quality has declined significantly from A&P standards (my pork chops I bought yesterday, was off) and their employees are less than helpful and brings a new meaning to impolite. Lastly, their rotisserie chicken gave me food poisoning, so be warn don't buy anything from them that they've touched. Packaged goods are safe, but nothing else. read more

Clean store with a good selection of items. Prices aren't the lowest, but definitely not sky high. It's extremely convenient for me so I keep coming back but prefer the Pathmark in Edgewater! After moving to Weehawken, I shopped almost exclusively at Pathmark on Park Avenue. However, after I figured out that A&P have the same prices and same sales at the same time as Pathmark, I've been going there each week. I've seen reviews calling it overpriced, and maybe some items are more expensive here. But on seafood, dairy, staples and produce I haven't noticed a difference. Plus A&P gives more in-store coupons at point of sale. But that's just my experience. If you have a car, in my opinion it's worth it to run down to A&P. They have a much larger organic (produce, packaged goods, frozen) selection, better prepared foods and a more extensive produce selection. For example Pathmark sells one variety of Newman's Own frozen organic pizzas. A&P has the entire range at the same price. It's not as pricey as Whole Foods and Trader Joe's. And it's closer than the Shop Rite on JFK. In addition, it's usually deserted. Morning, afternoon, rush hour, late night... there's hardly anyone there. read more

Have been going many times here! Always find what I'm looking for Absolutely love this location!!! The seafood selection is amazing and all the aisles are always cleaned! Parking is absolutely perfect as well! Many of the items they are selling are past their expiration date. I found this to be the case especially for items on sale suggesting that they are aware of it and trying to get rid of the items by marking them down rather than removing them from the shelves as they should. It takes me twice as long to shop here because I have to check every expiration date before I buy anything after a few times of not doing that and realizing once I was home that something was already expired and had to be thrown out. Although this store is 3 minutes from my home I will no longer shop here and will drive further to another store to avoid the hassle. read more

I love this particular supermarket so very much it is epically convenient and unlike most supermarkets when the weather is bad you never have to be affected by this when driving because you can enter through the garage. I love it! A & P stores typically have a reputation of being more expensive than their competitors, however when things are on sale at A & P, they are on sale man! read more

This store feels like a ghost-shop - there is barely anyone there whenever I have gone. It is not a full-fledged store, rather a smaller neighborhood version of ACME but it does fulfill all your basic needs. It is great for us (and others who live walking distance from it), if we are not in the mood of driving or taking public transportation. I have gotten vegetables from here, pre-cut fruit bowls, bread, butter, frozen meals, and raw, frozen chicken. Once, the organic chicken (frozen) I bought from here was spoiled even though expiration date was not the issue. However, they replaced it without a fuss and explained to me that there was an issue with that specific brand. Even though it is smaller than a regular ACME, I have never not found something I went looking for. read more

I waited 10 minutes for someone to assist me at the deli counter. I had to chase down someone to make a call to assist. When the gentleman came to the front, he was still chewing food.
