I found Acoma around 10 years ago. I had to let one of my babies go and they were open and close to where I live. I have brought every dog I have had there ever since. The staff is so kind. My dog is very difficult for people to handle. He literally has warnings in his file and they still treat him every time he's had issues or needed his vaccines. I'm blind and he's been put on a liquid medicine. The vet tech helped me come up with a way for me to do the exact dose and have been very accommodating. I seriously don't know why they have that low of a score. Yes they're expensive but that's just vets in general. read more

I really hate writing this review because I had hoped this could be my dog's new vet since it was right next to my house. So my dog had been seen here three times in total. First appointment, he was stressed but not a high level. Second appointment, he was on edge being vocal and trying to mouth towards the vet techs hand when observing his growth on his eyebrow bone. They asked me to put a muzzle on him which he had no issue allowing me to do it then prescribed him trazadone. This time I took him in because he has a growth on his paw. I had gave him his medication and he was cool as a cucumber until the vet tech came in. She did not vocally acknowledge my dog, try to pet or even give a treat to have him get familiar with her which I thought was strange because I have worked in animal welfare for years and haven't seen this kind of behavior towards a pet outside of shelters or free clinics where they have a lot of animals to see. I offered assistance because although he let her touch his paw, he got stiff and I offered to hold him or hold his paw. She said she was taking him in the back to be seen by the vet. The vet hadn't come in at this point so I didn't know who was seeing him or what the plan was. All of a sudden I heard my dog choking for the whole 5 minutes he was back there. When he came back to me, it took another 5 minutes to get him to stop coughing. The vet said he would need surgery but the as very vague on what it could potentially be or what it looks like. She didn't do anything. Wrap it or offer any immediate solutions. This is the second time these vets have seen his growths and the first time they just said "keep an eye on it". Now the only option is surgery and no explanation of what it looks like or what it can be? I go up front and they tell me they have an appointment for Friday morning for surgery but because of his behavior I would need to stay the whole time to put him in the crate and take him out. I let them know this won't work then they say Tuesday then just look at me. I ask if we can go over pricing before I schedule anything? Then they put down the paper and tell me the cost. I let them know my dog is a lot more comfortable with his other vet and asked if it was possible for them to do the surgery? They said "yup, they can request his records" then went back to working on something else. Not a single thank you or have a nice day. Attached is a message from his vet tech from his previous vet office who is going to do a thorough work up. This place has traumatized my dog and has changed his behavior towards going to the vets which is sad because he's 8 years old. read more

We've been coming to Acoma for 5 years, ever since my husband did a walk in appointment for our suddenly critically ill dog. Dr. Eells treated my husband and our dog with kindness and compassion. The team at Acoma have helped us with two end of life appointments and referred us to an in-home euthanasia vet during COVID when our elderly dog was actively dying and we had a newborn. I have always felt heard, had my questions answered, and been able to talk through all the options and ask for Dr. Eells' opinion on what course of action to take. We feel as though she has always given us moderate options and have never felt forced into a treatment or diagnostic test that wasn't necessary. The staff are kind, friendly, they recognize and know us by name and are always patient when I have to bring my kids. I know it's hard to be treating pets and talking to owners while their kids are interrupting but everyone has always been really patient with us. It has been really hard since the other vets retired and sometimes getting an appointment is a challenge but we're with Acoma for the long haul! Today, October 16, we rushed our 5 year old dog into the office 5 minutes after they opened because she had been vomiting blood over the weekend. We tried AVECCC and it wasn't a good experience for us. Acoma was able to fit us in as walk ins right away, we did X-rays and got medications and a treatment plan in an hour. It was far more affordable, too. I asked questions about what to look for, when to come back if needed, etc and feel good about bringing our dog home. If you do have to go as a walk in, try to go early and be prepared to wait but they will do their best to see you next a timely manner. Doesn't look like I'll be taking my animals there anymore. Me and my family have been using acoma for 25 years. I recently got a new puppy. I live about 45 minutes away and I was quoted at my old vet $650 for a spay, microchip, and rabies. And also with that everything included. I called acoma a couple days ago and I was quoted $450 for it all. Plus $60 to set up care. Which was fine. Cause I was still saving $140 in the long run. So I come in today and I was told my puppy looked and sounded good. So I pay $60 for the exam fee. (Which I knew about) and then I was handed the spay quote. Guess what I was quoted.... $650. And $550 on the low end. Which is not what I was quoted over the phone. Manager told me "I can assure you, you weren't quoted for the spay plus the rabies and microchip... you were only quoted the spay"... I called and spent a lot of time on the phone making sure I was saving money. ON TOP of all of that I asked for higher management and Tami told me that she was it.... How unprofessional... she also talked over me the entire phone call that was 25 minutes long... been going there for 25 years and still no respect. So I basically paid $60 today for them to tell me my dog looks good and then to be given the same quote as I had already received. I believe that quoting someone to get them in the door and then charging them more is a no no. Editing to add. MONTHS ago. I brought in my elderly dog to have his nails clipped. The groomer took him back at the back door. Everything was great. When I went to go pick him up, she almost allowed him to jump off the table.... He would have obviously broken something. And THEN she hit his head with the door. He was BLIND. Never made a review cause I thought it was a fluke. But I now know today it wasn't. read more

We had to put our 14 year old Roxanne down on 08/10/2022, who we were fortunate to live with for 12 years. We scheduled the appointment for 2:00 PM and I went to the clinic two hours early to pay. That way I wouldn't be standing at the counter after the procedure crying like a baby. I would like to point out that Roxanne was a big girl and I needed assistance getting her out of the car when we arrived at 2:00 PM. Two wonderful Acoma technicians, both named Heather, came out to assist. They both assured me they could remove Roxanne from the car and carry her into the Clinic. All I can say is they were awesome. My wife and I were placed in an exam room where there was a blanket on the floor for Roxanne. Roxanne was brought into the exam room after the staff inserted a catheter in her leg. One of the staff brought in a jar labeled "Goodbye Kisses" and the jar was filled with Hershey Kisses. Roxanne enjoyed two Hershey Kisses prior to leaving us. What a wonderful and novel idea. Dr. Eells was the attending veterinarian and what a kind and compassionate doctor she is. She administered the medicine into Roxanne's catheter and declared her deceased. Roxanne left very peacefully. Dr. Eells stayed with us for a few minutes and told us we could remain as long as we wished with Roxanne. Thank you, Acoma Animal Clinic staff. I have never felt so taken advantage of. Female blonde doctor(she never introduced herself) spent no more than 1 minute in the room with me, talking over me. She gave my dog a diagnosis I've never heard of. Do you think she explained it to me? Nope. She Just prescribed medicine, said the instructions were on the bottle and left the room. I went back because I was giving her the benefit of the doubt for a follow up visit and still she could not bother to spend more than 5 minutes in the room. She had prescribed 3 medications and all of my dogs symptoms are worse. So i had questions ready this time and i quickly asked them to the assistant. I had no idea that my questions about why certain things are happening to my dog meant that i wanted tests that added up to hundreds of dollars. She did not tell me she was going to perform these tests, nor did I ask for them. She showed no concern for the welfare of my dog but rather how fast she could prescribe my dog medicine and get us out of there. The last thing she said was that the medication expires soon so I need to come back. What a scheme to take advantage of people who love and care for their furbabies. When I got to the front desk and was surprised by all of the charges, the from desk old lady just barked out what the doctor had put on their and that was that. I am saddened to find another professional that only wants to squeeze people of their money and dare them to ask questions. read more

I have been taking my Schipperke Boomer to this clinic for 12 years he has always been healthy, so I just needed the shots, well 6 months ago the vet tells me he has a heart murmur he gives me some meds and tells me I need to keep an eye on this. Yesterday I call there because my Boomer needed to see the vet he had an episode, his heart felt like it was pounding out of his chest, they told me they were booked solid and could not see him. Excuse me but this is an emergency, again they said they were booked. How is that for customer Service? No empathy at all. My dog died yesterday. I will be getting the records of my other animals today. I do not recommend this place for anyone needing a Veterinary. The customer service is horrible, the old woman that is at the desk does not even look at you at along welcome you in or say hello. read more

I used to love taking my dog here to get his nails done because they not only cut them but they grind to smooth them too, then they included anal glands expressed AND clean their ears. All for $21.00 up until two weeks ago. But just like everything else Covid has destroyed this too. They forgot to tell me today until he was done and I was paying over the phone (because you cannot go into the office) That it is now $33.00! AND the lady was obviously in a hurry because she cut his nails badly, several are still long, did not grind them smooth and no anal glands were expressed!(I know because when they do it they have to clean his backside and put a odor reducer on his booty. None of that was done.) I asked her "can't you get them shorter on his back feet?" She stated very quickly "No". I am not going back there ever and feel very cheated! Why was I not told about the increase until AFTER he was done and they had my card number?????Shame on you! read more

I wish there was a half star option. Hard to figure out how to review this but it was something I feel people should know. The doctor at this location is one of the best vets I have ever been to. That upside is worth 3 and a half stars for sure. The downside is the lack of organization and the ability of the staff to give proper information. When I called and made an appointment for shots for my dog I was quoted a total. After the visit, the price went up. I made mention that they had told me prices over the phone and even had them wrote down but it didn't seem to matter to them. Unfortunately, the same thing happened with a previous visit. I will definitely continue to go here if it is anything serious related to my dog since the doctor does such a good job but I may look elsewhere for maintenance and minor issues since there seems to be an issue with getting accurate information unless it's from the doctor. read more

This clinic was very helpful in saving my dogs life. He was in anaphylactic shock and they informed me every step of the way of all the tests needed, their thoughts and my opinions. I also received an estimate right up front, that explained the price range. Doctors were very friendly and helpful, all seemed like they cared very much about patients. I've taken my dog here a few times before however this last time cut the cake. My appointment was early in the morning (no big deal I chose it.) I went around the back to be awkwardly greeted my one of the groomers. I had made a special request that the hair growing beneath her feet be trimmed. The groomer said no problem we can do that. 2 hours go by and no phone call. So I make a trip down there with my other pup cause all she needed was her toe nails cut. I found my dog sitting in the kennel. No one called. Later that night when my dog is sleeping on her back I noticed her feet weren't trimmed and her !!!!!UNDER BELLY WAS SHAVED!!!!!! And not to mention her toes were not cut either. My dogs breed is NOT meant to be shaved and any professional groomer would know that!! I will NEVER be doing business there.. read more

We initially started using this clinic because of their location and our chihuahua hates car rides. And I mean hates them. Once we realized how amazing the staff was I knew we had found our vet. We had an incident a few summers ago where our Boston terrier was stung by a bee and they were able to get him in the same day, and could see him later in the day when he had a reaction to the meds. Most recently, he's had some pain in what we thought might be his hips - this was confirmed by the vet at the doggie urgent care Saturday night - so I had made an appointment this morning and was able to again get in the same day. Before his appointment he was acting weird so I took him then. After about a 5-10 minute wait they were able to get us in an hour early. Puppers got his xrays done and the doctor went over them with me, and assured me that he was in perfectly good health for a boy his age, with the exception of the arthritis. I left their office today feeling such a relief that it was nothing serious, with some doggie supplements and a plan once his labs come back to make my little fuzz ball have less pain. Also their groomers rock too- they are the only people who have been able to cut our chihuahua's nails, which he hates. read more

We have been coming to Acoma since they first opened in the 1980's. Dr. Burnham and Dr. McConaughey are wonderful. They are no nonsense veterinarians who will tell you like it is with your pet's health care needs. If it's time to move your pet to that big Milk Bone in the sky they will tell you it's time. They will not fleece you with unnecessary tests or procedures, nor will they give you false hope on your pet's future. We also take our pet's to the groomers and they are way better than PetSmart or the other groomers in the area. read more

I was recommended to them by a friend who takes her dogs here for grooming. Unfortunately, I will not be taking my dogs here..EVER. Although, I am happy my friend has never had a problem with this place, it took one phone call for me to decide to NEVER bring my dogs here. Customer service and friendliness was not a priority for the person who answered the phone. I called to schedule an appointment for my dog and was met with a condescending and demeaning attitude. All because of shots my dog does not have but SHOULD have according to the woman who took down my information. Dogs are required to have their rabies shots, which my dog has, thank you very much. But do not berate me about my dog not having her two other shots- Parvo and Bordetella. Especially after stating that my circumstances do not allow me to afford other shots not required by law. I can understand if I regularly board my dogs, but I do not. So how dare you speak to me like that and tell me that I need to get her other shots. I immediately cancelled my appointment and schedule with another groomer. And when calling to complain to the grooming manager, I was met with the same attitude. This practice made a very difficult time much worse for me. Do not take your pet here if you want ant compassion. I took my 11 year old cat in to be put to sleep, after a heart wrenching diagnosis of liver cancer, and 3 days of him not eating. I only choose Acoma because it is very close to my home and my pet gets very stressed out in the car. I called that morning and was told it would cost $100. When I arrived in tears with my stressed out cat, they made sure I paid first and told me it would be $125. I asked what the extra charge was for and the rude receptionist said"well I don't know who told you that, we charge $50 for you to be in the room with him" I thought hmmm so you charge me for my own service? I had little choice at this point, I was in no shape to drive around looking for another vet. I have had my cat since he was 5 weeks old, no way was I letting him die alone with rude, uncaring strangers. I certainly would not trust these people alone with my pet, if they treat people this way, how are they treating animals who can not stick up for themselves? read more
