Dementia wing, hire caring people or certified nurses only. Late night visits always found attendant sitting in corner on her phone while residents sat in chairs in front of static tv, one poor man slumped over to his side , clearly needed help but was ignored and another man crying for help. I found myself trying to help an entire room of helpless people while the attendant ignored all of us. It was a nightmare there. My own grandmother died under their so called care. We found workers always quickly spoon feeding her flat on her back, that is how people choke. It was just mortifying. There needs to be an accountability from the start and supervision and caring people who want to work in that industry, not insensitive, unskilled people who just need a pay check. read more

They put on a good show to get people to move in...but it is not what they pretend. The aids are young and giggle...they. sit in the halls instead of helping residents. The menu sounds good ...but the dining staff is untrained. Iced tea is room temperature ..neither chilled nor iced. Soup, salad and entree are served together....and they pour coffee at the same time. they the plop down dessert. the residents say accept their lot. the thought of living here is repulsive... read more

After a very difficult 5 month experience at another assisted living facility in Pennington, NJ, we went in search of a facility that demonstrates follow through on its services, leadership that was approachable, and a true interest and caring for its residents. We lacked all of this at the Pennington facility where my mom withdrew to her room and became lost among the residents. My mom has now been living at Acorn Glen for 3 months and her life and care have radically improved. Fern, Acorn Glen executive director, clearly demonstrates her interest in both resident care and an appreciation for her staff. The staff including the Wellness team, the Activities team, the aides, and all other staff members seem very content in their roles and demonstrate concern and caring for the residents. There are many activities to select from and the staff encourages my mom to participate and helps make it possible. My family and I are grateful for Fern and the entire Acorn Glen team. We thought we would not have her spirit and health back after her first assisted living experience. Acorn Glen is largely responsible for where we are now with my mom's well being. My family member lived there for 5 months in the memory care unit until they told us we had 30 days or less to move him. While he was there I saw workers not being patient or understanding of his disease. I witnessed a caretaker snatch a walker away from another resident who was trying to walk when they wanted him to be sitting. The director Fern will promise a lot up front so they get the revenue. In my case they over promised their ability to care for our relative's needs even though they knew up front the diagnosis and behaviors. There are other places that charge less and provide more compassionate care. They weren't watching when my family member ingested multiple non-edible objects and I had to take him to the emergency room. Be careful that they have the experience, and more importantly the willingness to care for your loved ones' particular needs before you have to go through the upheaval and expense of moving in and then quickly having to find another place. Family members who have relatives there should visit as much as possible to make sure their loved ones aren't being left unshowered etc. read more

My mother has been living at Acorn Glen assisted living for a little over a year now. Elayne, the director, came to meet me in an emergency situation at the hospital. My mom could not go home, Acorn Glen took my mom within a days notice! I was so relived to know she would be in good hands! My mom has dementia, and I knew they had a memory unit for her if needed. my mom was there for 6 months in her main apartment, but then needed the memory unit, Elayne went above and beyond to accommodate my mothers needs, and make sure she could remain in the building! I was a little nervous at first, not wanting my mom to be living in a facility. Acorn Glen is the furthest thing from that, it literally looks a mansion, between the actual apartments, to all the activities, nursing care, and places to hang, my mom never wants to leave!
