There needs to be an accountability from the start and supervision and caring people who want to work in that industry, not insensitive, unskilled people who just need a pay check.

A third floor nurse Sammy accused my family member of purging when she was vomiting due to end of life cancer complications. The facility didn't notify us of low vital signs until 12 PM and her TOD was 12:09 PM. Once we arrived we were treated with disrespect and zero compassion by the staff, notably Sammy and a second floor nurse with no teeth that yelled at us. They told us to get our loved one out "as soon as possible" so they can use her bed. I was asked by other patients on the palliative care floor to please write a complaint on their behalf. Someone needs to do something about the inhumane treatment of patients occurring within this facility.

There was one nurse who was the bad apple out of the bunch. And I believe she was "let go" due to multiple complaints. According to my mother, the food was good as well. You didn't get a choice of what to eat, but everything was good. Especially, the ice cream (lol). Other than the appearance of the facility, everything we've experienced was above par. People also need to realize that, with all rehab facilities, the staff is cut down over the weekends. It's not the service. Things take longer because of the lack of help. However, that doesn't mean that you don't get the help that you need. My mother still received her PT, meds, food, etc., on time. I recommend Avalon for rehabilitation.

A previous experience with this facility was very positive and I had so much hope in this facility. Generally the staff is kind and attentive. Unfortunately, after three days....they were unable to manage his diabetes and rather than listen to me as a person who has been successfully managing his diabetes for the past 10 years....they are by policy and protocol required to refer to a house physician who is not an endocrinologist. Nursing staff must wait for the doctor to find the time to call them back while my husband's blood glucose just kept getting higher. It's sad that the nursing staff isn't allowed to use common sense and deliver a shot of insulin that is more than the physician has ordered. Our health care system is so very broken. I guess my advice would be....if your loved one is a diabetic....you might want to choose another facility.

The caregivers they sent to my house were also thieves but since they sent so many caregivers a month I couldn't specify which Care Giver it was. And when I reported it to The agency it was my word against the Care Giver also sometimes when I would call the agency to tell them I needed care after coming back from a trip sometimes they would claim that there was no one to cover that shift. During these first two years when our needs were variable, Griswold was responsive and flexible, always finding someone for us when we needed them. We were never left without competent caregivers. The last three years Griswold sent us Robert, who lived in with us. Robert was exceptional - extremely competent, very flexible and responsible, and an interesting and honest person. When we moved out West we tried hard to get him to come with us. During those years from time to time I dealt with Jane and Joe, who own the agency, and with Giselle, their financial person. Giselle was extremely helpful in working out complex billing details with our long-term care insurance plan. Jane and Joe were always there when I needed them. I have heard lots of bad stories about home care agencies. Thankfully, our experience with Griswold was only good. Over many years they provided us with continuing competent care, and my dealings with their staff were always positive.
