Amazing. After a fun-filled night of drinking and eating, on our way back to our car we came across the most curious of sights. A mysterious van that magically wasn't there moments ago between the time we parked our car and went on our fantastic journey into the midtown bar scene. To be honest, at first sight the Acoustic Sanctuary is intimidating... something straight out of a Disney film, Wizard of Oz, or Dr. Who. But once you walk through the curtain, you're greeted by an amazing sight of wall to wall instruments, and purple. It's a great place with friends, going alone may be awkward, and it's an amazing way to end a date in midtown, or in our case (completely sobering up before driving home). The host is friendly, he's extremely talented and has a way of keeping the mood light and has a way of leaving a smile on your face. I would totally recommend.

Catch Winko Ljizz Thurs-Saturday nights at the corner of 22nd and J Streets in midtown Sacramento. His style, personality, and character are that of purely a gentleman. I've been here many a time when folks from all over come stumbling in after a night of food and libations. They're usually curious about what goes on inside this large purple van and they find out right quick, if you're the last one in you've got to pick a topic - not related to anything you see inside or music. For instance, one day I picked "sustainability" for a topic and Winko spent a good 15 minutes stalling until someone else came in because I had thrown him a curve ball. It's okay, he offered me a beer and played the newcomer's request quite well (happiness was the topic). Anyways, if you're ever in the area and the least bit curious - pop on in and say hi. You won't regret it!

Drove past this van that had a neon sign and circled the block. Felt like it was some sort of magical entry into another world. Walked up the stairs through a curtain and there was a man behind a piano. We sit and had great conversation, paid our low fee of $15 and the fun began. Spent the evening with songs of mythical creatures, storytelling and predictions around the worlds insanity. More people joined in the five seat theater. People popped their heads in asking what is this...we were getting such a unique experience. A great time had by all and your ticket is good all night!

Review #1,098 Posted on 7.29.26…read more We came here for a show on Saturday night the 25th to see Ron Taylor. I was excited for this one as I thought he was very funny on the Kevin Hart Netflix show promoting standup comedians. Show started at 9:15 pm, and we got sat pretty late, the prior show got out late. I loved the feel and setting of this venue. Our server this night was awesome, super cool & funny guy. This venue has a huge bar top along the back, tons of seating in the middle area, and a lot also on both sides. This was also just one room we saw the show in, not sure if that's their main room, or if it's the biggest room, but it was pretty intimate, not too big, which I prefer to watch live comedy in that type of venue, not arenas. I'll definitely be back here down the line for another show.

The staff here are very hardworking and nice. I never understood why comedy clubs force people to purchase items. Sometimes people don't want to drink or eat anything, and just want to enjoy the show, so why is it a thing? Alcoholic drinks start at ~ $15 and I think I seen one go for as much as almost $25? Food is pricey and is gas station quality. Makes it hard to enjoy the place when I'm forced to get something and it's not good ): I tried the chocolate cake ($13) and it was way too sweet. The $6 can of water was good. I will say they bring a good variety of comedians here but with how pricey and forced everything is, I rather just stay home and watch the comedians online / via streaming.

On weekends (Friday & Saturday) they have shows at 7 PM & 9:30 PM. They usually have 3 comedians with their own segment. They may not be 5 star comedians - but you can enjoy the show and make it a 5 star night. The tickets are -$25 each with a 2 drink minimum. The drink prices are reasonable with a decent selection. The finger food menu is pretty good also. We ordered the hummus plate and chicken sliders. The sliders were a decent size. The first comedian is the "regular" local guy. He's just ok and I'm pretty sure I can take his spot but it's all about having a good time together. He gets the night going and pumps up tips for the staff. The headliner was good and had many laughs but on this night, the second comedian was even better. My vice in life is not being able to remember names but he was funny. A Filipino guy who had a good singing voice and great material. And did an impressive job engaging the audience. I'm sure he will be a headliner soon.

Took her to see Saul Trujillo and he killed his set! All the staff here were extremely gracious. We had an absolute blast watching the comedians perform in the show room. I always assumed the theatre was just the stage you see driving by. To my shock there was a whole other room filled with a larger stage and tons of tables and chairs. Sound was immaculate as the comics were coming in loud and clear. The pretzel here was bomb! Their cheese spicy too. I would definitely order that again. Drinks came out quick. Although you're pretty close to other tables it never feels uncomfortable. Clean bathrooms and overall venue too. I love the location of this comedy venue being in the heart of Old Sacramento. Got some free tickets to return and plan to do so very soon! Special thanks to Sophia for the hospitality :)

Ace of Spades is primarily a general admission, standing-room-only venue. I understand that's part of its model, but what I struggle with is the cost of having access to a seat. Reserved seating can run $100-$150 per seat, which feels excessive. As someone with a chronic back issue, it's frustrating that the option to sit down during a concert comes with such a steep additional cost. Basic accessibility and comfort shouldn't feel like a luxury upgrade. There were also a few moments during Alex Isley's set when the sound briefly blipped while she was singing. Music didn't stop, singing sounded off. It wasn't constant, but it was noticeable enough to pull you out of the experience. On a positive note, the Good Luck Lounge was a great addition. The atmosphere was welcoming, the DJ was excellent, and the finger foods were surprisingly good. It definitely enhanced the overall experience before the show. The staff at both AOS & GLL were excellent! That said, the seating situation remains a major drawback for me. Unless it's an artist I really, really want to see, Ace of Spades isn't a venue I would choose. The performers are often great, but the overall experience doesn't justify the premium pricing for something as simple as a place to sit.
