"The Midnight" Put On Great Show In This Venue!…read more SITREP First time here! Never been to this venue before, so I was excited to check this place out when we got tickets to see "The Midnight" show this past Sunday evening, Sept. 20. THE SETUP First off, we got tickets for the Band's VIP pre-concert meetup requiring us to be there by 5:15pm (Doors officially opened @ 7pm / Music started @ 8pm). The venue is pretty spacious, and I'm just talking about the entry-way lobby: Large windows, beautiful murals, plenty of people to stand in line, congregate (my own personal gripe: there can't be enough ancillary seating in whatever part of the venue you're in, including the lobby; 64 years old here, not a fan of possibly standing for 7 hours, right?). But moving on, we were ushered in by venue staff into the main auditorium where the band was doing their soundcheck, so we got to watch the band practice for about 15 minutes on some of their songs while we were allowed to hangout and watch. MEET & GREET We were ushered back out into the lobby where we were able to cluster around Tyler - lead singer of "The Midnight" and have a great conversation! There were about 25 of us having an intimate chat with him which was a lot of fun: people asked questions about their music, inspiration for their lyrics, decisions on how many band members to have, etc. I always love pulling the left-turn, throwing a wrench into the flow, and asked Tyler, "How is it travel with the touring logistics with the diesel and other accommodations getting much more expensive? He was nonplussed but did say, "I've never been asked THAT before!" But answer he did. In fact, the band's manager chimed in and they both joked "Hey, if anyone wants to chip in on fuel costs, we're not too proud!" CONCERT The band rocked! Excellent show! The stage was elevated so no matter where you were standing on the main floor you had a decent view of the band. Luckily for us "old folks", there was bench-like seating all along the wall all around the perimeter of the room. Thank GOD. Suzanne and I took turns getting drinks but also managing to not give up our seats. We noticed the large balcony above and hadn't researched whether these were a different category of tickets. We noticed that it appeared (although it coulda been the dim lighting) there were no seats up there but rather three (3) separate rising tiers of bar-like rails for people to put their drinks on and lean against. LIGHTING An excellent feature about this venue - in contrast to it' most obvious competitor ACE OF SPACES - is that Channel 24 allows the venue, if desired, channel control of the auditorium's lighting-system to be controlled by the band's sound engineer: during heavy pulsating bass/drum rhythms, or percussive guitar work, the lights all around the room can pulsate with the songs rhythms. SERIOUSLY cool! DRINKS Ah well. Drinks at concerts, or festivals, or fairs, etc., are going to be expensive. My Jack & Coke, and Suzanne's Appletini were a coool $40 together w/o tip. So FYI. PARKING & MASS TRANSIT OPTIONS The venue is located right off the 23rd Street Light-rail station making it ideal to come to on mass transit with bus stops also conveniently located close. On this occasion, we drove to the venue and chose to avail ourselves of the $30 secured lot just in the next block from the venue (the other side of the lightrail tracks). THE LOWDOWN Channel 24 is a very good venue overall and I look forward to catching my next concert/show there.

I went to see Molchat Dolma. Being my first time, I had no idea what to expect. First off. Well organized line. Its nice the merch area is away from the main entrance. Most of all, you can stand/sit anywhere. You can be on the floor up on the balcony or if you need to stay off your feet the upper seats. The sound was good. I was standing center to the stage. I also like how there is plenty of room for crowds. I like Channel24. This venue makes Ace of Spades look like Chuck E Cheese.

Kicking off the first leg of The Linda Lindas' Gotta Get Back Out Tour 2026 was hands down one of the best live music experiences I've had. Both bands absolutely brought the house down. The Rat Utopian Experience set the tone early with an explosive, high-energy set that got the crowd buzzing, surfing, and moshing. It may have been their first visit to Sacramento, but they absolutely gained a lot more fans and will come back. The Linda Lindas kept the party going with their raw punk energy, stage presence, and tight musicianship. Proving once again why they are one of the most exciting and fun acts touring today. And it was Bela's 22nd birthday today! Hope she enjoyed the Icing on the Cake red velvet cupcake. If you have the chance to upgrade to the VIP seating, do it without hesitation. For an extra $50 per ticket, it was worth every single penny: - Cushy, comfortable seating to save your back and feet - A completely unobstructed view right above the floor crowd - Dedicated table service, meaning zero elbowing through lines at the main bar On top of that, we opted for the $15 add-on for all-you-can-eat freshly popped popcorn and all-you-can-drink canned beverages--an incredible value that kept us fueled the whole night. (Friendly reminder to everyone taking advantage of table service: please tip the hardworking staff generously!) Gotta love midtown Sac--they are definitely looking out for us vegetarians! The food menu had an impressive spread of vegetarian options, ranging from classic comfort cheese pizza to a hearty Beyond burger, plus three different styles of fries (regular, garlic, and sweet potato). The security service, ticket scanners, and var staff are all excellent and efficient in handling any size crowd . The building and the auditorium are funky. Flat floor, uncomfortable folding chairs. The stage is elevated up 18 inches, so if you are short and there are bigger people seated in front of you there's little chance you will see the performers. Look for the ceiling air conditioning vents and avoid sitting under one of them. Made that mistake. I had a constant 3 hour blast of chilled air blowing on top of me. My nose was running like a faucet and I was literally trembling from the cold. Couldn't change seats in the capacity crowd. Tbe Bose sound system is adequate though inexpertly managed. The featured guitarist of a jazz combo could barely be heard, and I was sitting on the 4th row. All said, this is a bare bones hall that is staff by welcoming people. Informal, unfussy. Come as you are, no need to dress up.

Hitting The DJ-Dance Scene Here More Often!…read more SITREP Since Promoter-DJ Megan L. has been running her DJ-Dance Clubs Necromancy twice a month here @ Harlow's, I've absolutely been enjoying the opportunity to stretch my legs more often and come to the Club! THE SETUP Whatever your deal is for club-logistics, club-music, club-drink-pricing, club parking, etc. etc. etc., I just know for me this the perfect situation: 1. I live only 4 blocks away - no need to drive! I can meetup with friends here, and I never worry about getting home, even if I have to stumble home! (No driving, no garage fees, no driving, no timetable to worry about having to leave early to DRIVE home, etc. 2. My favorite Club DJs come to Megan's clubs to spin HERE, at Harlows, whether they are from Seattle, Portland, Los Angeles or the Bay Area - such an excellent choice and variety of music-dance nights. 3. The admission price, the security, the physical plant of Harlow's is FIRST RATE: looks great, always reasonable, and f*ck-offs are not tolerated in this space. 4. Getting specific about physical plant, the dance floor is awesome and the large outdoor patio area in the back is amazeballs. Comfortable seating and on occasion (once every other month?) I MIGHT actually break out a clove. ;) 4. Finally, some of the best cocktails and whimsical drinks, reasonably priced you can get here in Sacramento. It's so cool to have a place like this in Sacramento. All staff were friendly and welcoming and seemed like they enjoyed working there. Around starting time, Daniel came onto the stage to engage with the audience and promote future movie events. The movie-going experience itself was great as it was an enthusiastic crowd that sang along with the songs and some folks even came dressed up in character (um, donkey head mask, anyone?). My husband, a former bartender, grabbed a drink from the bar and said it was strong and well-made. It was our first time at this theater, but it certainly won't be our last.

This is a historic movie theater so don't expect modern movie theater standards! The inside is absolutely beautiful though and I love admiring the interior everytime I'm inside. The theater is pretty intimate so any seat is still a good seat. Staff is always friendly and you can tell they genuinely enjoy their jobs. The manager was even kind enough to allow my friends to take their graduation pictures here before. For the $2 movie day, I saw Perfect Blue and was pleasantly surprised that staff said it was a full house! It seems like they have been trying to get more various showings of anime/animation in general and asked the audience for input and feedback. Overall, I'm glad Sacramento still has the Crest in place and I'm hoping to make it out to more movies here :)

They have a few food trucks on site and a couple of bars. There is a VIP area, it's referred to as "the hill" because it's slightly elevated so you should be able to see over the crowd. Parking is $20 (bring cash) and you enter through Gate D at Cal Expo, if the parking lot in front of Rock n' Brews isn't full they have you park there. The two times I went I was there early so I was able to park close. Try to avoid going to a concert during or after the State Fair. The Backyard is near the stables where they keep the livestock during the fair, which means there are a LOT of flies when the fair is going on. I've only been to two daytime shows (Sad Summer and Summer School Tour) so I can't say what it's like to to go a regular nighttime concert. The shows I went to were standing room only, and they were on very hot days. I will say the venue did an excellent job keeping everyone cool and hydrated. For Sad Summer it was over 110 degrees, they had setup a white tent, had misters, plenty of free water and a few large trash cans filled with water so you could wet a cooling rag (they also provided new towels for those who didn't bring one). They let you bring in one empty water bottle or a sealed one. You were allowed to bring in sunscreen, but it had to be lotion, it couldn't be aerosol. The staff was very friendly and helpful. It's definitely not my favorite venue but it is new, so there may be some improvements.

I came to see American Steel play and it was everything I wanted, with friends and tunes and beer. This is not a huge venue, and the stage is hardly that, so you can easily get up close and personal with your favorite musicians. Apparently there has been some ownership change, which I'm not certain how I feel about. What I do know: The beer selection was still not particularly great; the women's bathroom had only one functioning stall (with the wall of it hanging halfway off); and at one point during the set, part of a ceiling tile fell on the guitarist's head. So objectively, this should really be no more than a three-star review. But I have so many good memories tied up in this place that my nostalgia is bumping it up to four.

Despite always approaching her politely and respectfully, my friends, my girlfriend, and I are often met with instantaneous hostility. It has gotten to the point where my friends and girlfriend ask me to order their drinks because they don't want to interact with her anymore. And when I've gone up alone, I've experienced the same dismissive and antagonistic attitude, despite never being rude or giving any reason for that kind of treatment. My girlfriend and friends are the kindest people I know and have never had issues with staff or people in general anywhere else. As a bartender in fine dining myself, I understand that the job can be incredibly stressful, but I also know how important it is to treat customers with professionalism and basic respect, regardless even if you're having a bad day. That's why our repeated experiences have been especially disappointing. I've only visited about three or four times, yet we already feel targeted. On one recent visit, people nearby overheard the interaction and my girlfriend and I talking about our experience, and they had experienced similar treatment from the same bartender. I've since learned that several other people have had comparable interactions. Some of my friends have been coming here for nearly 10 years back when it was Barfly, and even they were surprised by how we've been treated. They couldn't offer any explanation for it. I really don't want to stop coming because I enjoy the atmosphere and everything else about this place. However, it's difficult to feel welcome when every interaction with the same staff member leaves us feeling hurt and dejected. The inside is basically like a dive bar and they have open mic night on Wednesdays. You order at the bar and they bring you your order. There are restrooms inside as well. I'll still come on Thursday when I have a craving for the wings, which are great btw. They are smoked and I usually get the BBQ and garlic parmesan flavor. Parking is street parking.
