I was excited for this one as I thought he was very funny on the Kevin Hart Netflix show promoting standup comedians. Show started at 9:15 pm, and we got sat pretty late, the prior show got out late. I loved the feel and setting of this venue. Our server this night was awesome, super cool & funny guy. This venue has a huge bar top along the back, tons of seating in the middle area, and a lot also on both sides. This was also just one room we saw the show in, not sure if that's their main room, or if it's the biggest room, but it was pretty intimate, not too big, which I prefer to watch live comedy in that type of venue, not arenas. I'll definitely be back here down the line for another show. read more

The comedy club is upstairs, but they do have an elevator. As with just about every comedy club, there's a 2 drink purchase minimum per person, seating is tight, and food is mediocre and pricey. The staff here are very hardworking and nice. I never understood why comedy clubs force people to purchase items. Sometimes people don't want to drink or eat anything, and just want to enjoy the show, so why is it a thing? Alcoholic drinks start at ~ $15 and I think I seen one go for as much as almost $25? Food is pricey and is gas station quality. Makes it hard to enjoy the place when I'm forced to get something and it's not good ): I tried the chocolate cake ($13) and it was way too sweet. The $6 can of water was good. I will say they bring a good variety of comedians here but with how pricey and forced everything is, I rather just stay home and watch the comedians online / via streaming. read more

We were at the performers' 3 o'clock; I will say the angle of spotlighting in our eyes took some getting used to but did not deter. Not sure how far back the comedians could actually see our faces with/without the spotlight. Opening acts were Jimmy Earll (@jimmyearll) and Diego Curiel (@awkwarddiego). Diego had me cracking UP! JR had a good set, with the crowd participation, improv with the acoustic guitar, and he even brought his dad up onstage toward the end! 2 drink minimum; the server let us each get 1 drink and 1 food item instead. I got nonalcoholic drink The Bell Ringer (spirit-free whiskey, strawberry, ginger, fresh lemon, bitters), and we shared the buffalo mac & cheese and pretzels with cheese. Pulled up to Punch Line Sacramento not really knowing what kind of night this was going to be, just that the lineup had Bobcat Goldthwait with Ruby Karp and Aurora Singh--and that alone was enough to roll the dice. I've been here a few times, so I already knew parking can get a little tight depending on who's headlining, but once you're in, it flows. Security and check-in were smooth, quick, and organized. Just don't be that person holding up the line digging for your ticket--they'll keep it moving on you real quick... not rude, just efficient. Inside is where this place shines. It's a smaller venue, which honestly makes everything hit better--you're close, you're locked in, and there's no bad seat. But let me give credit where it's due... the real MVPs of the night? The servers and wait staff. They were on it. Friendly, fast, and somehow always there right when you needed something without interrupting the show. It's a two-drink minimum, I kept it light with the Diet Coke, but the food? That surprised me. Went with the chicken tacos thinking it'd just be something to hold me over... nah. Those things woke my taste buds all the way up. Next thing I know I'm sitting there like "should I run it back?"... yeah, I ran it back. Six tacos deep and not a single regret. If they let me take some to go, I would've walked out with extras, no question. And then the comedy kicked in and sealed the deal. Straight laughs all night. Really enjoyed the show. Tickets were easy to purchase on ticket master. I also had to unexpectedly ask for special ADA seating the day of the show and they were super accommodating! Or server was amazing!!! I also liked the option for a nonalcoholic beer - never had one but since we were celebrating someone's birthday I offered to be the DD. Came to Puncline the end of March to see Craig Conant. From the line to get in to drinks, the whole experience was a frustrating, disappointing shitshow. Ticketmaster charges suck, I get it. 2 tickets were $65 or so. I acknowledge 2 drink minimum, expected pricey drinks. So lets get that out of the way first. Emails from the venue said doors open 30 min prior, show was supposed to start at 9:15pm. We were about 4th or 5th in line at 8:40pm. We waited in line until after 9:30 because they were selling merch inside the showroom from the 1st show, so they werent letting guests in. Didn't get seated until 9:45! Why wouldn't merch be sold on the way out in the hallway? Drink service was slow, and you couldn't get your own drinks at the bar!!! You HAD to wait to buy from your server. 2 drink min shouldn't matter bar or server! Drinks were over $20/ea FFS. 4 vodka + red bulls, not doubles, not top shelf vodka. Amost $90 with tip. Wtf!!! That's Vegas prices!!! The opening act was awful, not funny at all. The MC was the 2nd act, and he was just flat and seemed like he was onstage forever, maybe 25-30 min? The headliner didn't start after 10:30, and we were still waiting to get our 2nd drink! They boast major acts, how does a small, shitty strip mall club run this poorly? read more

Service is wonderful, especially from lovely Julia. The drinks are very pricey. Do they still serve crappy wine in a bucket glass? I ended up ordering two sodas instead (Two drink minimum per person). Comedy is usually worth more than the ticket. So it is a great value. Good place to come for an evening of laughs! First off, there's a parking lot with plenty of spaces. Checking in for your show is pretty simple. Sometimes the line can get a bit long depending on who's performing, so it's best to always arrive early. While you wait to enter the area where the performer will be, there's another room where you have the option to order drinks, use the bathroom, etc. I will say that the bathrooms low on soap and toilet paper when I used them, so an employee should definitely be checking them regularly due to their high usage. The main room is a bit small, but not uncomfortable. Unless you pay for priority seating, you will likely end up sitting at a table with other patrons. The people at our table were really nice so we didn't mind at all. Staff are all really nice and helpful. Our waiter (Geo V or Giovanni?) was very attentive and took our orders right away. As far as the food, I've had better. The loaded fries were interesting to say the least. The chicken wrap wasn't that good either. The chicken tenders are pretty decent. There is a 2 drink minimum which is pretty standard for comedy venues. I ordered the Wildberry Margarita which was just ok. I did enjoy the margarita. Located in a shipping center passed the Arden Fair Mall. There's is plenty of parking and is located upstairs. Check-in through a metal detector and then a hostess who checks your tickets and ID. For 21+ There is a 2 drink minimum for the comedy show with cocktails around $17-19. We got the nachos to start off with and it had nacho sauce, guacamole, sour cream, meat and salsa but there wasn't enough chips to support all that. Wish I could've had more chips. We had the espresso martini and the red orange cocktail. Both were good in my opinion. Our server was sweet and very attentive. The comedy shows are always entertaining. Perfect for a date night. I am just here for the laughs...I'll see myself out. I have seen a few comedians out here most recently I was able to see Kevin Smith on his reschedule show. Here are my thoughts... Location: Punchline is in such an interesting area next to furniture store the second floor of a building in the Howe Bout Arden area. When I was first here, I was surprised by the location as I would expect a place closer to downtown. Despite that it is a great location for parking, although it can still be rather busy. Also lots of resturants but by the time most shows end its mostly the chain restaurants that are left open. Not the best scene for food but not too bad. Vibe/Venue: The venues is what I would call comfy. Its not very big and the Comedians have to walk in from the back as there is no real back area for them to come from. Seating is very tight and if you are in a small group, there is an off chance you will be sharing tables with other people. Despite that there are generally great sightlines throughout and I haven't had any issues with all the shows I have been to here Drinks/Foods: They have a two drink minimum and the drinks are decent but nothing I would call great. I think the bar is one thing that could be definitely improved here. We generally order something small here but sometimes they do not have the items in later showings. Definitely would try to eat before you get here or save it till after. A healthy amount of comedians come through this area and although on the smaller cramped side, it feels more personal. Based on that if you are looking to see a favorite comedian here I still recommend it. read more

First time at Punch Line and came on a Tuesday to catch James McCann. I always thought the location was kind of random (right next to a Mattress Firm on the second floor!), but the inside was surprisingly spacious and super clean. Also didn't realize how many big-name comics have performed here--very cool! Got there right when the doors opened, so I scored a seat near the front, off to the side of the stage. Ordered a passion fruit margarita and the chicken tenders with fries. The margarita had just the right sweetness, but honestly, the chicken tenders stole the show--they were juicy, crispy, and came with a great selection of dipping sauces. Total win! Service was quick (another perk of arriving early), and of course, like most comedy clubs, there's a two-drink minimum, so no surprises there. The vibe was casual and fun--perfect for a good laugh with a solid stand-up act. I'd definitely come back if there's a comedian I want to see... and probably for those chicken tendies again, hehe. read more

Came here on a Friday at 9:45pm to see Gary Owens. We got there around 9:20 and there was already a line up to the entrance doors. It quickly grew to the outside and down the staircase. They had 2 people going down the line checking IDs and tickets. They opened the doors at 9:40, and we were seated around 9:45. The show started around 10:05. We were annoyed, but the good news is they didn't cut the show short; we just had to stay until after midnight. The seating is less than ideal. I understand that they need to pack as many people in, but it was a bit awkward sharing a table for 6 with 4 other people. It was also frustrating because the staff couldn't figure out which couple was which, so one of the other couples ended up accidentally drinking someone else's drink (whiskey looks a lot like red wine in the dark... and yes the wine was served in the same glass). They also have 2-top tables, but they situate them so close that you are literally 2 inches from the person next to you (hopefully an attractive stranger). The bathrooms are easy to find. They offer self serve water which is great because the staff get really busy. Only downfall is the tiny 8oz cocktail cups you have to use. Just don't get any ice, fill it to the brim, and walk very carefully back to your seat. Then you won't have to get up every 20 min. Staff was good. They come by at least twice to ensure you can order your 2 mandatory drinks. They have trouble keeping them straight when there's multiple people, but I'm sure if you're just 2 people at a table they'd get it right most of the time. They have a few choices of everything food and drink wise. A few beers, wines, couple of cocktails (they'd make anything you want as they have a full bar). And some fancy non-alcoholic items (Liquid Death sparkling water, ginger beer, etc..). The other couple ordered nachos which looked and smelled good, but full disclosure I'm pretty excited about ANY nachos. They also had salads and other fun stuff. read more

We've been here several times. We're on the mailing list and sometimes receive free tickets. There is always a two menu item minimum purchase, similar to the San Jose Improv. The food isn't terrible and I love that they offer ginger beer, so I can enjoy the show and drive home afterwards. The room gets a little muggy sometimes, but the shows usually only run about two hours, so if you get hot, it doesn't last long. The servers do check on you periodically, but sometimes the food takes awhile. read more

The comedians were the highlight and deserve all the stars, but this review is strictly for the venue. Which could do a lot better for what they charge for their two drink minimum menu (food doesn't count), but unfortunately have no reason to. We arrived about 20 minutes before the late set started, and 4 of were squished into 4 bar stools behind a two person bar top at the edge of the room - that already had two people seated at it. I assumed seats would be first-come, first-served, but as I watched multiple groups led to regular tables after us, it felt like the venue oversold tickets and we were just unlucky getting the afterthought chairs that were a fire hazard to navigate in and out of. The table wasn't large enough for 6 people's worth of drinks and dishes, and the person in front of us had long hair that kept getting flipped into our drinks on the table. With the drink minimum and required table service, the set was interrupted no less than 4 times as waitstaff hadn't reached our table by the time the show started. There also wasn't space on the table to order multiple drinks at once, and the second round drinks didn't arrive until the end of the final set (and for others near us, after the set ended). The timing was awful, the space was awful, the prices were awful - expect mocktails to run you $15-17, and booze even more. Closing out our tabs took an additional 20 minutes. The restroom line stretched from the lobby into the bar area. The only positive I can think of is free parking. It was an uncomfortable experience, and I wouldn't come see a show here again. We've continued to enjoy shows at Punch Line. We've learned to arrive early for the best parking and best chance at good seats. The staff is friendly and it's easy to navigate through security and the ticket scanning process. The main room is on the smaller side, and when everyone is there it's cozy, but you have a good amount of personal space. It helps that they put you at tables according to your group size. There's a two drink minimum and all the drinks are a bit pricey, but the cocktails are strong, they have some decent beer options and there are a good amount of non alcoholic options. I opted for their non alcoholic Tiki Unplugged ($12) and it was really tasty, but I had to stop myself from drinking it too fast because it was basically a soda with a little extra syrup and some lime juice- but it was really good. My husband got the 24oz Modelo ($15) and we both got Modelo for our second drinks. Our server was really nice, attentive, and was able to make sure we had everything and check in during the show without being disruptive to the experience. The show itself was great and the intimate setting makes every seat a good one. They also serve food and people around us had some- it looks like it could be good but I'd have to try it myself to really judge. We'll definitely continue to come out for shows here. read more

I mean 4 stars might be a TAD generous here but I'll get to the specifics in a moment. I have been here a number of times to see many different, but also some regularly scheduled, comedians over the last couple of years. They have a 2 drink minimum so keep that in mind if you come (non alcoholic drinks count). About half of the time we order some food and while nothing is GREAT, nothing has ever been especially bad. One thing we order a lot is their soft pretzel although when they changed the cheese offering they definitely lost some points with us. Since that time I don't think I've gotten the pretzel again. Anyways what makes this place a 4/5 to be honest is that from time to time they offer free tickets for select shows. That alone makes all the difference and can make it worth the 45m-1hour drive out there. Service isn't amazing but they get the job done. I can appreciate that they are able to get in there and take everyone's orders and check out by the end of the shows. I haven't been to a ton of comedy bars but I'd say this seems about medium sized. It's pretty dark in there as well but there's just enough light to get around if you need to. Shout out Lance Woods and Rico the Great! Great laughs, excellent service and bomb bar bites! Always a fun time at Punch Line! The staff here is super friendly. Super quick with drinks and orders. The booking manager here deserves a raise. They're always bringing in some of the best comedians in the comedy game. Whether up and coming or legendary comedians everyone makes sure to stop by Punch Line. The two drink minimum is a bit funny in itself. I bought tickets and paid a good price for them but I am also required to buy a minimum of two drinks? Hahaha. But hey the two drinks go quick here because I'm laughing and having a good time! So it all evens out. Located in the Howe about Arden shopping center Punch Line is an older spot with posters and pics of all the great comedians that have came by here to perform. I've been here twice and each time from the check in, seating to table service have been amazing! Great place for a date night or after work shenanigans. Drink and food rang from $13 to $22, with a two drink minimum, though sometimes, they'll let you slide with a drink and food, which is pretty standard for venues like this. Don't forget to tip! The location is above a fish grill in the Nike/Michael's parking lot, so parking can be tricky. If there's a famous headliner, I highly recommend arriving early to get a good seat. My wife and I came here tonight with some friends for our anniversary to see Alex Falcone. Never seen him before but he was hilarious--smart jokes, a little awkward in a charming way. The place is pretty small (in a good way), so you're close to the stage no matter what. Feels personal. Drinks were solid, service was quick. Pro tip: there's a 2 drink minimum. Also, if you want the good seats (we got a couch!), show up when doors open--about an hour before the show. Totally worth it, because instead of awkwardly bumping elbows with strangers, we got to sit uncomfortably close to our friends, which is way more socially acceptable. We've seen several comedians here, most recently Big Jay Oakerson, who was hilarious. Doors open an hour before the show so we stopped into their internal bar for a drink. Those drinks dont count towards the beverage minimum inside the club (which kind of sucks). The bartender there was quite slow but nice enough. The wait staff inside the club was good however, it took a while to get our final bill. The show was actually finished before she came over with the bill to sign. We, along with alpt of other customers, had to wait. But the shows are always good. Oh and the hummus was fantastic! Warm bread, cucumbers and a dallop of garlic on the hummus was super tasty! read more

Hubby and I saw Sheng Wang at Punch Line on Jan 4. We arrived an hour before showtime; the process to see the show was seamless. Once you enter, they have you walk through metal detectors. Then, they check your ID and put a wristband on your right wrist for those over 21. At the next window, they scan your show tickets. At that point, you can stand in line to be let into the main room or head to the CallBack Bar where we went to get a couple of drinks. Eventually, someone let us know that we could be seated so we were guided to a hostess stand. Each party was led to their table - which made seating very orderly for the sold out show. Those who had preferred seating tickets were seated at tables in front of the stage. Our small table for 4 was fairly close to the front stage. We took the back two chairs and another couple was seated at the front two chairs later. Most of the seating at the venue seemed decent enough that you could see the stage. A few short minutes later, a waitress named Janelle came over to introduce herself and take our orders. She was outstanding and kept checking on us - either to clear our table or get more drinks. The venue offered non-alcoholic beverages, beers, cocktails, and food. Since there is a 2-drink minimum per person, we had a couple of gin & tonics ($12 each), a couple of peach ginger lemonade mocktails ($8 each) plus an order of soft pretzel rolls ($11) and a Mediterranean snack plate ($14). Yes, the prices for everything was high. But, we really liked our drinks and the pretzels were very soft and they went well with the cheese sauce. The Mediterranean snack plate consisted of tiny paper containers of black olives, feta cheese, hummus, some sliced cucumbers, and a small bag of pita chips. The plate was fine but quite expensive at $14. As for the show, the first comedian (Chey) came out around 7:30 pm. Then, another comedian (Sean) before Sheng Wang finally appeared on the stage around 8:00 pm. Sheng was hilarious from start to finish... not unlike his Sweet and Juicy comedy special on Netflix. It is no wonder that all 10 shows of his at Punchline were sold out. After the show, we were given complimentary tickets to see another comedian two weeks later - which was really cool. And, Sheng Wang came out to the lobby area where we could buy merchandise (stickers and pins) and have pictures taken with him. He seems like a genuinely nice guy. read more

I love this place, it's not big, but a lot of pretty well known people come through here, and of course there's an ongoing joke about it being next to a mattress store, but the tickets are pretty low cost for the caliber of people they get in there and if you're part of their mailing list there's always an offer of free tickets. The staff is always nice, food is fine, but no one goes there specifically for the food. The only downfall is they require a 2 drink minimum and depending on the waiter/ess some allow the food items to count towards the two item minimum while others insist it has to be beverages, it would be nice if all the staff was on the same page for that as to me, so long as I purchase two items, drinks and/or food, that should meet the minimum, most of the food items are more than the nonalcoholic drinks so they should count. But headed there this weekend for another comedy show and I can't wait! read more

The service was HORRIBLE. Both managers were sooo disrespectful. One tall male with glasses who claims was the manager and another female who was a "server" with glasses who claim was also a manager. They yelled at us for people who were around us and took forever for our pretzel which was good but also rushing us to our food (show barely started) but the service was HORRIBLE. This was a great Friday night. Jay Pharoah was absolutely hilarious and down to earth. We arrived early and luckily, this time around the bar was open. I ordered a happy hour beer, $8.00; however, it didn't count towards the 2 drink minimum. Since we had the place to our self for a few minutes, I asked the bartender if I could get on stage for some photos which she allowed. Can't pass up a photo op, right! Afterwards, she asked if we wanted to sit in the front row which I excitedly said yes! I was not expecting to literally sit right in front of the stage and could see Jay sweating, lol. Before and during the show, our waitress was attentive. Food was good, we order the pepperoni pizza and pretzels to help soak up the alcohol. The worst place to go for a good time or any fun. No "table talk" while the comedian is interacting and joking with our table. Recently visited Punch Line Sacramento for the first time with some friends who invited us to a comedy show. It was a nice, intimate comedy spot with friendly staff and all of the standard amenities one would expect (i.e. table seating, bar, bar-food, etc.). We went to the first show of the comedian featured for the night, so everything seemed clean and staff were energized. Our show had the options of priority or standard seating. We were a party of nine and all of us purchased standard seating tickets. However, to not break our party apart, the ushers were nice enough to keep us together by seating us in an area that was partially priority seating. We appreciated the thoughtfulness on their part, especially since our particular show as sold out. Upon purchasing tickets, we were warned that there was a two drink minimum purchase for the night; again, pretty standard from other comedy venues my husband and I have visited. The drinks were a little on the pricey side, which I'm sure make up for the relatively affordable ticket prices we paid for the show. Our waitress took our order almost instantaneously upon sitting down, however, it was apparent they were short on bartenders for the night as it took FOREVER to actually get the drinks. We ordered some snacks to munch on as well: pretzel and a wrap. Also, overpriced for what it was, but I understand it is part of the experience and how the venue is probably making money. Our waitress was friendly and attentive to the best she could be given the busy night of the sold out show. Other odds-and-ends to note about our experience. Audio for the show was perfect. As noted above, our seats were really good and fairly close to the stage. We were definitely in direct eye-contact with the comedian and a 'part' of the show. The Women's Restroom was clean though early on, they ran out of soap. The venue itself is on the upper level of a shopping center, so parking is shared among the other businesses in the complex. This was advantageous since parking was free and for the most part, easy to find. Overall, our first experience at Punch Line Sacramento was positive. We would definitely return in the future for another show. read more

They up-charge and make you buy two drinks. A 24oz modelo can is 16 dollars!!!! Each drinks is up to 16-17 dollars. The nachos are about 17 dollars. I can't believe this!! So if it's two people you each have to buy a minimum of two drinks by force. That Groupon you bought will not save you money. read more

SO MUCH FUN! SO MUCH TALENT! Last night (March 15, 2025), we went to a show in the Call Back Bar and let me tell you- its the best night of entertainment I have had in Sac for years. It was hosted and apparently curated by a comic named D. Tyler. All of the comedians were warm, talented and funny.The order made sense and the show was cohesive and the sets were short and sweet. Most left you wanting to hear more. I would come and happily see a line up with this host and curator again. There were four of us and between drinks and tickets (that were $20 each) we spent $300.00, WE REALLY ENJOYED THE DRINKS!!! The bartender was on point, the bar food was bar food and the service from Sara was also great. I am going to pay close attention to shows like this in the future, especially with D Tyler hosting and performing. He was so warm and funny. He has excellent taste and gave us a funny diverse show with male and female comics, plus different cultural perspectives. So fun! read more

Great little venue! I've been twice now - once in March 2019 to see the Hodge Twins and most recently to see The Day Players Band. On our recent visit, we had purchased a SuperPass/Meet & Greet, so when we arrived, we were initially seated in The Callback Bar. It was a comfortable place to wait. Staff were great at keeping us updated and explaining how the process would work. When it was time to go in, we were directed back to the front where they assigned us seating based on our party size. The last time I was here, we had a group of four so we were sat off to the side (with still a great view as there isn't a bad one in the house), and this time since it was just two of us, we got a seat right up next to the stage which was glorious! The band itself was fabulous and they were all so kind and fun to interact with. As far as the sound system, there were a few kinks to workout since it's a comedy club - not necessarily for a band. But, overall they did great and worked it out. The menu options were quite fantastic. Plenty of drink options which included non-alcoholic mocktails and other sodas/etc. I ordered the Agent Zero and it was delicious! They also have a good variety of food options. I kept it simple and went with the garlic fries - flavorful and crispy! Our server was nice, however, we were some of the last to get our orders taken and my mother was never offered her second drink - so we were just automatically charged for the 2 drink minimum. Which, I get, but it was frustrating that she wasn't offered one initially. Overall, it is a great spot and I will certainly plan to see more shows here. read more
