    Burrata

Nice place, tasty food. I wish they had a more robust wine list with local wines. I settled for a Tempranillo when I saw not good Pinot Noirs on the current menu. The food was good, the burrata was good but not memorable. My guest had the steak and I had the Chicken. The unfortunate part was that both dishes come with potatoes so we couldn't see much variety there. Especially when we ordered a side of fries as an appetizer. I'm not sure the description had specified the proteins came with potatoes, otherwise we would have order something different. The cheesecake was so light and incredibly yummy. Overall ok, not fantastic or memorable.

Came back to Acre because we have had such good experiences here. Whether you're eating dinner or want a post-dinner drinks and dessert session, they have it all. We got a margarita, Bloody Mary, and a piece of cheesecake. All were refreshing and delicious.

Acre is a very nice spot in the Rockridge neighborhood, and we have been in several times now. There is a downstairs dining area, which is more casual, and an upstairs one which is a bit more swanky. We prefer the upstairs, where there is a nice bar and a cozy dining room. We have not yet had dinner here, but this is a good spot for an intimate date night. When we come in, we park ourselves at the bar for some bites, drinks, and people-watching. Service is always solid, and an extra big shout-out to Ron, who is always welcoming and delightful. Pretty extensive menu with something for everyone. They have oysters, which I love; not sure if they're on HH. We've also had the mushroom pizza, which is delicious, and lighter bites including the guacamole, hummus, and fried olives. All tasty. All-in-all, a cozy, comfortable restaurant with a nice vibe and solid food and drinks. Parking is limited, so give yourself extra time if driving. Enjoy!

Acre Kitchen & Bar was a fun spot for a Fat Tuesday night out. They had live music and a special menu focused on New Orleans cuisine. Food was a bit mixed for us. We started with the gumbo, and while it wasn't bad, it just didn't have much depth. I kept waiting for the flavor to build, but it stayed pretty mild all the way through. On the other hand, the lamb merguez pizza was the clear standout. It was super flavorful, and the seasoning honestly made it taste more like chorizo than lamb. I don't usually like lamb, so I was surprised by how much I liked it, and I'd definitely recommend it if you're deciding what to order. Overall, the atmosphere was great, especially for an event night, and that pizza alone would bring me back. Giving it 4 stars because the gumbo didn't quite hit, but we still had a really good time and would return!

    Birthday card signed by staff

Came across this signed card and realized I never posted the review after celebrating my birthday at Acre last October. I honestly did not know what to expect going in but left super happy. No food pics, but I still remember how good everything was. The shoestring fries were dangerously addictive and paired perfectly with one, or 2, of the best Old Fashioneds I've had in a long time. The Brussels sprouts were a standout and my steak was juicy and cooked just right. We sat downstairs and it was definitely busy, but the service never skipped a beat. Our server kept the energy fun and made sure my water (and cocktails) were always topped off. Finding this card reminded me how thoughtful the team was. May seem like a small gesture but it really made the whole experience feel personal. Looking forward to going back! Thanks for contributing to a fun birthday last year, Acre!

Acre! I've been wanting to dine since opening but somehow just making it in, between some errands. I made a lunch reservation for three 20 minutes before I arrived and they opened on a Saturday. Live music as we walked in to a beautiful table upstairs. Very homey, festive and romantic. The menu is worth taking time reading-food and beverage. Familiar dishes with unique twists. We were greeted and served quickly by lovely Acre staff. Well attended to throughout our lunch. We ordered martinis, a pizza to share (with our three year old) bitter caesar salad for me and a Cuban sandwich for my husband. Everything was delicious. The Caesar was so good. Not overly dressed, really letting the crispy and peppery chicories and greens be the star, topped with cold pulled chicken-really perfect. The "kids" pizza was enough to feed all three of us! Delicious, from their wood fire oven downstairs. What a gem in the East Bay. We will be back! I'd love to sit at the bar for happy hour or dinner. Thank you Acre for a lovely lunch!

Our first visit to Acre - full disclosure, the old Oliveto was our preferred Rockridge destination, and we have many fond memories and occasions we celebrated there. So it was with high hopes (and a little trepidation) that we booked, finally, our first visit to the new offering at this same storied location. We reserved upstairs, as downstairs was always louder and more immediate. It is a different place. While expected, this really isn't a 'white tablecloth' venue anymore. I think prices are a little more reasonable than the old Oliveto's, and it has been updated to a more modern casual vibe. Large selection of pizza offerings, and a finite number of non-pizza entrees - about equal number of pasta and more substantial fare. Ambiance seemed a little more lively, the ambiance louder (and the tables closer together). Place was packed (to be expected on a Sunday evening). We started with drinks, and I found my negroni better-than-average. Starter was their Chantelle mushroom with puff pastry, which was presented nicely, nice texture, and tasted delicious. A promising start. Entrees were the seafood risotto and the pork chop. Risotto was good, lots of good tastes...but pork chop was quite well done. It wasn't as dry and hard as your first accounting lecture, but it was firm and stubborn enough to stand up and argue with your political views. Which was quite a shame, as the tastes on the plate were wonderful, the complements well-presented. Promising, but... We realize this is a new vision and new expression at a storied location. But we miss Oliveto. We may return to Acre to see how the pizza offerings compare to, say, Tony Gemignani's take on the storied pie. But while service was excellent, the more-modern and casual vibe and our first take at their entrees were good...and not entirely great.

Well excuuuuuse me, Acre! Please forgive me for being unfamiliar with your game! Acre is THE spot to be in the 'Ridge! You want great drinks? Delicious pizza? An awesome happy hour with some nice live music?! Well then, Acre is calling your name expeditiously. Wow folks! That oyster happy hour ain't no joke, mmkay?! Yeah... you heard me right! $1 oyster happy hour every Tuesday like clockwork! Read 'em and weep. But seriously, you cannot go wrong with the happy hour specials here. The oysters are fresh and delicious, and a steal on Tuesdays, of course. But dayum, their PIZZA! So, so yummy. They do a lovely wood fired pizza with some unique flavor combos. Also, don't skip out on their hummus! It is truly divine! So thick and flavorful. The meatballs are also fantastic. Super fragrant, saucy, and packed full of lovely Italian spices. I mean, you really can't go wrong with anything that you eat here. And those DRINKS! Let's spotlight it real quick. If you're coming here, you need to get a spritz! They really make them so refreshing and tasty here. I usually like to lounge at either the downstairs or upstairs bar if they are having live music going on. The ambience is cozy and chic with a nice neighborly feel. The service has always been stellar here. Kevin and Liz are so awesome! They are both charming and will chat you up when they aren't busy. Speaking of busy; this place can get slammed during peak hours, but both Liz and Kevin know how to handle the busy crowds with ease. I also have to mention that this is such a fun spot to meet new people in. It's very local based, so they've got a lot of regulars who stop in and they are so kind (especially at the bar). Really fun little spot! I definitely plan to work my way around their menu a bit more, but I'm really liking what I see so far.

I'd give this restaurant closer to a 3.5. I received a $100 gift card a few years ago and finally decided to use it at Acre. The restaurant itself is nicely decorated. We sat on the bottom floor near the door and enjoyed the atmosphere. Our server was very friendly and attentive. We started with the fried olives, focaccia, and fries. The fries were excellent, very crispy and served with a tasty garlic aioli. The olives were flavorful, and we liked the mustard sauce underneath. The focaccia, however, was pretty bland, and the butter had a strange, slightly sweet flavor I wasn't a fan of. I also ordered a Shirley Temple that I didn't enjoy, and the water was served lukewarm without ice, which was odd. The mains were hit or miss. We really enjoyed the margherita and hot honey pepperoni pizzas, both were flavorful with a delicious crust. The pastas, on the other hand, fell flat. My sister's shrimp scampi had almost no flavor aside from butter, though the shrimp themselves were big and tasty. My dad's risotto was just okay and lacked depth of flavor. Overall, the food was inconsistent. Some dishes, like the pizza, were great, but others felt bland and forgettable. It feels like a hit-or-miss experience, so I wouldn't rush back. Choose carefully when ordering.

Lunch with a few friends at Acre was just what we all needed. It was a beautiful day and we had a great table at the window. Service was excellent, while not overbearing. Comfortable, yet offered a mid-day elegance to the occasion. Quite a few tasty offerings they prepared.

It was my first time in this space in over 20 years when it was Oliveto's and I'm so glad that our friend chose Acre to celebrate my birthday. What a energy the place has with its open space and simple decor. There were folks who were having a special evening and then there are casual dinners with their children. We arrived before 6 and it was fairly empty so no problem with getting a table. Our waiter checked on us regularly as we chatted and finally we're ready to order some starters to share. The fried calevestrano olives are out of this world! What an invention. These olives are mild which lends itself well to not overpower the dish. Lightly crispy and just a great bar snack. We also ordered the grilled octopus that is sliced and sits atop a bed of dressed arugula mixed with pistachios, pepinos, white beans and pickled red onions. The variety of textures and flavors is really special. With happy hour $1 oysters having just happened, hubby wanted oysters. While tasty, he was having to spit out shells probably because the person shucking could have been better. Just something to watch for. Otherwise they are tasty. For our mains, we split the Blossom & Vine pizza, hot honey fries chicken and morel pasta. The pizza dough is so light! Chef said that the dough sits for 100 hours proofing! That is crazy. Lovely flavors and could have easily eaten that whole thing as a main. I personally didn't eat the chicken but our friend loved it. The fresh cream corn as the base was amazing. Chef shared some morels with us and we topped each bite with the corn and it blew my mind how the flavors complimented each other. The pasta is so tender that it literally melts in your mouth. For the sides, we had the shoestring french fries and greens. I'm not a greens person so it was fine IMO. And fries! No complaints on this at all! And to finish, we shared the orange almond cake with also has olive oil. It was tender and moist with a dominant flavor of orange zest. I can't remember if it's almond flour that the cake is made with because there wasn't much almond flavor. Park at BART and explore Market Hall as well as the surrounding area. Lots to see and buy. As fast as the wait staff, very nice. It appears that folks enjoy what they do. The attention to our table waned a bit as it got busier which just left us with more time to enjoy each others is all. I can't wait to come back to Acre to explore the menu. Overall a lovely meal and time. The chef brings such talent to the menu and overall experience. Please support this great local treasure.

    Firm Holiday Lunch

Visited for the first time, as my job held our annual holiday lunch here. Cool vibes for sure. We were given a table of the top floor and were presented a customized menu for the day. Not bad at all. Unfortunately, I forgot to take pics of the food, but it was all very good. I had the soup to start, which was good and very hearty. For the main course, I chose the chicken and whoa - the serving was huge!! So huge in fact, I had to box more than half of my plate to eat the rest for dinner. But it was very tasty, chicken was cooked to perfection and juicy. For deserts I chose the Orange Almond cake; again, very good, but it wasn't great. Staff was also incredibly helpful and nice as well. I definitely would return!

I love this spot! I had so much fun when I went the first time to the fancier upstairs (the pizzas are must-try!), that we had to come back, especially when we found out about the Tuesday $1 oyster happy hour from 4-6 pm. They recommended getting in line early. It's hard for me to get there that early after work, but my partner was able to get there just before 4 and got a seat right away. It did fill up quite quickly after. Getting the oysters at $1 each especially feels like a treat because they're typically priced at $42 for a dozen. We really went for the oysters but obviously couldn't help ourselves and also ordered the country pork pate $16 (not my favorite; will explain shortly), fried olives $11 (DELICIOUS and comes with a lick-the-bowl-clean-worthy sauce), and fried Brussels sprouts $14. My husband ordered a couple of varsity gin martinis $8 each. Only the drinks and oysters were at a discounted price. We ordered three dozen oysters (I know, I know, but $1?!). The costs added up pretty quickly and our final bill came out to $108.14 before tips (includes a health insurance surcharge and taxes). The country pork pate came with just three crackers, quince, and gherkins. The pate broke apart into clumps instead of smooth and creamy, but was tasty. I enjoyed the quince in particular. It would've been great to have a few more crackers. The Brussels sprouts came with pomegranate and blue cheese. Could've used more blue cheese, but the flavor pairing really worked. There is parking nearby. It was so fun, packed, and just had a lively ambiance. We will definitely be back!

I met the lovely Aurora who took great care of me from start to finish. This spot had a great happy hour and i definitely took advantage of the HH drinks. I had two for 10 bucks a piece, such a great little deal. Initially I wanted a burger, but if there is raw fish on the menu, all other thoughts leave my brain. So, of course, I had to grab the ahi tuna bowl. and my oh my, that was delicious!!!!! So many places with tuna, don't serve it with Won Ton chips, but Roses on Adeline got the memo! I love a won ton chip and these were giant and perfect with my fish. The fish came in a lovely sauce. So perfect! Such a great spot! I had a great time chatting it up with Aurora and eating yummy food. I love finding places that are somewhat nearby because it gives me a great excuse to come again.

And what a nice surprise it was to have Roses on Adeline hitting the mark on all 3. We've been to Roses on Adeline twice now, once as a walk in and the second time with reservations. Both times we went for happy hour. Their drinks are creative and yummy. The smash burger here is absolutely delicious. The fries w/ sriracha aioli is also the perfect light bite. But beyond the good food & drinks, the ambiance here is really what brings us back. I love the vibe this place has and am so excited to have this as our new local staple for a date night. But be warned this place fills up quickly - I would recommend making reservations if you can!

Looking for an in-between spot (a sip and bite before dinner), we cozied up to the bar here for a quick cocktail and bar food snack. We ordered onion rings that came with the choice of a variety of sauces including Tikka Sauce, Siracha Mango, Sweet Chili, Korean BBQ, Hot Honey, and more. Both the cocktails and snacks came timely, and we enjoyed conversation and community chatting with other locals/tourists visiting Berkeley for a short time. The vibes are right in Tipsea and I dig the nautical ambiance/theme/play on words. Worthy of a stop through; street parking on Shattuck/paid garages nearby, but ride-share sometimes easiest for these locations. NA options available and full menu including burgers, a fried chicken sando, seafood options, other bar snacks including Navi's and loaded tots, and dessert.

I didn't really know what I wanted to drink so I asked the service whatever is pink and pretty. she brought out a pretty pink tequila drink for it which I enjoyed a lot! I had the B.L.A.T burger and it was good. I like how the fries were small and crunchy. They didn't have honey mustard or ranch though so that was a little disappointing. The venue was pretty. It's not that big but they make do of the space and it's very cute in there.

We even had chips left after eating all the dip, how often does that happen? The steak salad was done perfectly. Would have been nice to have a side plate to cut the meat but we figured it out. The El Gordito Pizza had a great crust and very tasty sauce, just right amount of ingredients. Held up nicely when picked up. Soft drink selection was ok. Really liked the brewery list for beers but come on, know which beer it is from each brewery. How many Hazy IPA does Ghost Town make or West Coast IPA does Original Pattern brew? Asked the waitress to check the keg and she came back and said it was an India Pale Ale. Slap my head! Overall, a very solid experience.

My chilaquiles were solid, and while the mole wasn't my favorite style, it had a good kick and was clearly well made. The issue for me is the price. I ended up paying over $30 for an appetizer, chilaquiles, and water, and that just didn't feel like a good value for what I got. This street has a lot of excellent options, including some true five-star spots at similar prices and others that are just better priced for everyday meals. When I'm spending that much for brunch-level food, I expect something that really knocks it out of the park, and this didn't quite get there. Nothing was bad. It was a pleasant experience. I just don't see myself going back given the cost and the competition nearby. If price isn't a concern, you might enjoy it more than I did. For me, it's a solid but expensive meal in a neighborhood with a lot of strong alternatives.

Making drinks for a crowd takes time and the staff always does their best. The people who come here are super friendly which adds to the welcoming, cozy vibe of the place. Tallboy's martini menu is well-executed. While I didn't personally try one of the slushies, a friend ordered the espresso martini version and gave it a solid thumbs-up. Unfortunately, the experience falls apart when it comes to food and service. Waiting 30+ minutes for two hot dogs (after paying) is hard to justify. When I checked in with a server, she was curt and dismissive. She was quick to explain there was only one person in the kitchen, with no effort to offer a solution, timeline, or even basic courtesy. I understand staffing issues happen. However, customer service is a close second to concept. How an issue is communicated and addressed is what separates good service from bad. What's more frustrating is that these aren't customer problems to absorb. If the kitchen is understaffed, if tables aren't being cleared in a timely manner at a seat-yourself spot, those are management problems. Guests should not have to choose to leave without the food we paid for. There's a lot of competition out there, and concepts alone aren't enough to bring people back. I genuinely wanted that hot dog. That's probably the most disappointing part of the whole experience. Great drinks, solid ambiance, but the service needs serious attention.
