Acre Kitchen and Bar sits in the same space as the old Oliveto. The present space is more casual and naturally lit, and you can still find free parking across the street at the Rockridge BART station and nice baked goods to buy and take home later at Market Hall. I was here for Dinner last Friday as part of a UC Berkeley Forum group that I'm part of. I picked Acre based on Monique's recommendation, Yelp reviews, and the OpenTable listing. The 9 of us (with reservation) were seated comfortably upstairs near the back. The only "negative" was that their burger was only available in limited quantities (12 per day) and that they ran out before our wait staff took our order. But I was happy to enjoy their pizzas (which we ordered as appetizers) and share a plate of their "fish and chips" with a couple table mates. I also found their Spring Sangria drink to be astounding. I though our server was also impressive in both attentiveness, professionalism, and reacting well when I pointed out an error in the final bill. The menu did seem a little pricy, but as I don't live in this area any more, I really don't have a good perspective. The menu is heavy on casual Italian (pasta, pizza, etc.) and I wish they had a little more non-Italian variety past the limited-availability burger. In the end though, this is a place I'd love to return to, as their combination of good food, nice service, and casual neighborhood feel is a winner. read more

I really liked the beet & apple salad and the focaccia with Aleppo spiced butter; the brussel sprouts were a bit greasy without much flavor. For our main dishes we ordered the shrimp scampi (would not recommend) which came with a generous portion of shrimp but did not taste garlicky despite having chopped garlic in it. We also got the lamb merguez pizza, which was deliciously spicy with muhamarra and chili peppers. Service was prompt, but not super attentive. The restaurant itself is beautiful to be in. The chef takes great care in how the ambiance and decor of the restaurant look and feel. The vibes are great, the staff is even better. Our hostess, Maddi, was phenomenal and made great conversation; Our waitress Holly was kind, attentive, and overall an amazing server. The entire wait staff, front of house, and back of house made our experience at Acre one that warranted many future visits. The drinks were made to perfection, the bartender/mixologist knows what they're doing. I had the Acre martini, so smooth with that signature bite of gin. My wife had the sunny daze which was a delightfully light and bright drink to bring in the spring time. Both drinks were the perfect ratio of each ingredient, lovely. The food was fantastic! The brigade de cuisine clearly has a love and passion for cooking and food. Each dish my wife and I received was plated with care for the aesthetics of visual consumption. I LOVED how each plate was a different color and style, the stoneware/ceramics and utensils matched the clean Californian beauty of the restaurant atmosphere. We hade two appetizers, the crispy Castelvetrano olives, and the focaccia. I'm partial to the olives because Castelvetrano is my favorite, they were both juicy and crispy, which I appreciated. The focaccia was baked SO nicely, crispy yet soft. For the entrees we went with the swordfish and the steak (keep in mind, the menu does change according to the ingredients available as EVERYTHING is made fresh. Nothing at this restaurant is frozen and you can taste that in the food itself). My steak was cooked perfectly, I couldn't have asked for it to be done any better and it packed a lot of flavor. It was paired with a beautiful mushroom jus and accompanied by potatoes and garlic confit. To die for!! My wife had swordfish, which was lovely, surrounded by fava beans, artichokes and a variety of other citrusy fruits and vegetables. Amazing!! Easily moved to the top 3 of the beast meals I've ever had. The dessert... y'all. The pastry chef Francisca puts a lot of love into each dessert. I had the affogato vanilla soft serve, easily the best ice cream I've ever had. My wife ate the orange almond cake, it was such a pleasantry in the mouth. I've never had anything like that before, each individual flavor stood out and yet came together perfectly. Overall, Acre is a restaurant full of wonderful culinary surprises, and experiences all underneath soft ambient lighting and a signature California aesthetic you can only find on the West Coast. Had a lovely Saturday night at Acre. The place was packed, but we were still able to get seated at a low table at the bar, which worked out perfectly. We shared the beef tartare and lamb pizza. The tartare was unique with a bright citrusy flavor, and the lamb pizza was excellent--the masala sauce was flavorful and the dough was light and flaky. We also shared a bottle of Zinfandel that was full-bodied and earthy. For dessert, we tried the panna cotta. It was well made but a bit too heavy for our taste, so we probably wouldn't order it again. Great service, intimate ambience, and overall a really enjoyable experience. Bartender was very interested if drinks were to people satisfaction and that is always lovely. I got the pastrami sandwich. It was very tasty but -.5 stars because it was a little too greasy. But the pastrami was brined very well was not too fatty. Bread was toasted to perfection, the cheese was nice and melty! Sauerkraut and lovely mustard to round it all off. A grown-up restaurant in a great way! Although it isn't fancy or formal, Acre seems to attract more sophisticated customers than many College Ave eateries. On a Friday at 8pm, it was bustling and lively. Went to Acre for a celebration dinner with a party of 6 adults and 2 children under the age of 5. They are very kid friendly and have a kids menu (thank you!) which was great. The ambiance is louder than usual but helps blend in toddler screams. The waiters were friendly and knowledgeable. There was a little bit of delay once the tables got filled up, but nothing out of the ordinary. We got oysters, hummus, and the focaccia which were all fantastic. We ordered pizzas for our entree and they were okay. The middle was too chewy and could have been in the oven a little longer. They have a good dessert menu too. Came here for an early dinner with friends. The large crowds were there for the happy hour oysters at the bar. We parked for free at the BART station across the street. Free parking after 3 PM weekdays, free on weekends. Acre is a nice but casual restaurant. Bar downstairs, sizeable restaurant upstairs. We had the Terminator and the funghi pizzas, a carbonara pasta, and a beet salad to share. Happy hour featured a deal on bottles of wine. We finished things off by sharing a slice of orange almond cake and a chocolate cake, both were flourless. Every dish was excellent. Service was fine and topped off by two nice visits from the chef. This place is located next to Market Hall Foods located in Rockridge. I always walk by this place and see so many people enjoying their food so I decided to give it a try last week. I came on a Sunday night at around 7 and I was seated right away. The interior was modern and from the downstairs dining area we could see the wood burning oven which was neat. The service was friendly and our orders were taken promptly. My boyfriend and I ordered the Brussels sprouts as an appetizer to share. These were delicious and were served in a balsamic vinaigrette that added the perfect amount of acidity. I definitely would recommend ordering this if you come here! For entree, I ordered the chicken and frites. The amount of food was super generous. The chicken was a little dry but the sauce below helped bring some moisture back to the chicken. I enjoyed the seasoning of the chicken. My boyfriend got the salmon and it was cooked very well. The salmon was well seasoned and all of the other components on the plate worked well together. Food, decent. Ambiance, good. A bit loud when at full capacity. Neighborhood, is one where many cars are broken in, which happened to me, so park there at night at your own risk. Service was slow, and we couldn't figure out why when there were so few tables left in the restaurant. We had a reservation for 7:45, ordered by 8. By 8:30 the restaurant was half empty and we expected to be fully served by 9 PM since that is when they closed, yet we still hadn't gotten our entrees or dessert and most of the restaurant was empty (we ordered the special menu so they knew there was a dessert course). Dessert served at 9:45. We walked out of there at 10 shocked by how long it took and discovered several cars broken into. I know Market Hall has had security at times, so they know this area is prone to theft, why would they keep their patrons so late where it can be dangerous? 2 hours was too long for a meal. Not blaming them for the car break in, but the service was just entirely too slow, and I believe if there had been more foot traffic around there would have been less chance for break ins. Damn! I can't remember the last time I had such a great looking and delicious Neapolitan pizza delivered to my house. Probably never. Doordash showed a fancy looking margarita straight outta Italy, fresh puffy mozz, sprinkles of basil, fiery red pomodoro and the charred edges. Had the worst dining experience here today for lunch. I've been here 2 times for Happy Hour and have loved it. Came for lunch. Waited 10 minutes and no one came to take our order. We had to ask the busser to get someone to take our order. The server came right away and didn't apologize for making us wait. We ordered French fries, chicken ceaser salad and a pizza. Our salad and fries came out first. The fries were cold and stale, the ceaser salad barely had any salad and what was there was wilted. The chicken was dry and seemed old. As my wife and I explore the East Bay for our new "Go To" spots, this restaurant has been recommended numerous times, so with a night off from the kids we had our date night here. I was impressed with numerous things... the venue is so pleasant. The seating area upstairs has a cozy feel to it with really nice booths set up along the windows. The service staff were very friendly and attentive, and the food was really good. The one gripe we had was that the salads were a bit overdressed, but this is something that can be remedied with a little instruction. Other than that, the meal was awesome! It was nice to be treated to some live music as well! Overall take is that we'll be coming back, especially to try the prime rib night! read more
