Decided to come here because they offer reservations for brunch on a Sunday. With toddlers in tow, waiting is basically not an option. Street parking was a bit limited. The place was nice, quiet, and chill. Although the floors were a bit sticky, the place overall clean. Service was a bit slow. But because it was a leisurely brunch with the family, it didn't bother us at all. Our service was pleasant and very thoughtful. Some of us ordered ahead while still waiting on a couple of folks to join us. Our server took the initiative and had the kitchen fire up the food for the kiddos first so they can be taken care of. The rest of the orders came all together once the entire group's order was placed. That was very much appreciated! The food was very good! The Steak sandwich, Tavern BLT, and Berkeley scramble were good. The chicken and waffle was a fave! The chicken was crispy on the outside, juice on the inside and flavorful. The steamed mussels entree was also a hit! The sauce was rich and savory! It was an enjoyable dining experience for all.

The food was so good. The service was quick and the staff is so nice. The food came out all at once and the mashed potatoes were so creamy. Their wings were really good and the gnocchi was interesting to try. I came for lunch, it was not crowded. The vibes were really sweet. They had a fireplace on the tv in the background to give it a homey vibe.

Walnut Square is a cool little shopping and eating inlet in Berkeley's gourmet ghetto. At the west edge of the square you'll find Walnut Tavern. Dined here for brunch and enjoyed it quite a bit. They have a nice menu combination of breakfast and lunch items. I chose both! The steak sandwich and a waffle. I know, gluttony. The steak sando was on ciabatta bread and cooked perfectly. I asked for medium and that's how it came. Steak fries usually not my thing but these were crispy and seasoned enough. The waffle loses points because it was soft and had no crispness at all. And the syrup was the fake maple. They improve that and it's a winner. The last dish was the Mom's eggs Benedict which comes with ham. Hash browns were thin and crispy... perfect. And the atmosphere of this little tavern is great. Natural light. Woody. And a bar. Makes me want to come here to watch a Cal game. Service was a little spotty. Nice enough but kind of slow and didn't quite get my order right.

We found another new spot to go to and it was on NY eve. We made reservations just in case it was busy which is wasn't. We ordered a few drinks and appetizers right away. A few red wines which were really good, and a mixed vodka drink that was delicious as well. Our apps were fish tacos, and the momo platter. The fish was lightly coated and light, very good. The momo's were cooked perfect, great flavor in the beef and chicken, and the sauce was a good compliment. For our entrees we ordered the Steak, Shrimp Scampi, and the burger. The steak was a little over cooked, it should've been med rare, but it was almost well done. The scampi was really good, first time I've had a scampi with a red sauce. The pasta was good perfect, the sauce had so much flavor to it, and the shrimp was also cooked perfect. The burger was really good as well, perfect bread ration to meat, and it was cooked perfect. Also, the fries are good, cooked crispy like I liked. We didn't order any dessert because we we're too full. :). There was plenty of seating inside, due to the rain, we didn't see the upstairs patio. The service was really good, kudos to the staff. I would've given a 5 star but the steak was over cooked. I'll be back again.

Came here for drinks and dinner with a friend after my haircut next door. Nice upstairs outdoor patio and cozy indoor areas. We enjoyed the sun setting and fresh air with our food and drinks. I had a chicken club sandwich with fries and she had chicken fettuccine. We also had the spicy margarita and Malibu mule. Drinks were really yummy and food hit the spot. Service was friendly and attentive. We enjoyed our evening. Would be fun to come back!

"Walnut Tavern" seems like a perfectly fitting name for the overall ambiance. The lighting, windows and wood details create an upscale, cozy feeling. The menu has good variety. Our party of 6 ordered warm olives and calamari to share. The olives were the stand-out and amazing (I almost got a serving order). The two salads were good, and eaten as meals, the burgers were good and satisfying. They came with salad or fries. I would opt for the salad next time since the fries were the kind with a crumbly coating which I don't enjoy. The Root Vegetable blend with spicy tomato coulis was delicious. We were well taken care of by our servers who were attentive but also gave us space. I'd love to return

The patio was nice on a warm sunny day in May. The inside was charming too but we wanted sun. The service was slow enough that you could have a lengthy conversation. It might have just been that the patio is out of the way. As a result you had to catch people for service when you saw them there for others. For the price I would have expected the food to be better. It was not bad but did not have the presentation or unique flavor you might expect for the price. All in all it was an ok experience.

    Strip steak with stuffed gnocchi

Momo platter was awesome. The Shrimp Gambas were so good. The service was friendly and the entrees came out fast. I had the half chicken and my companion had the strip steak. The gnocchi was perfection and the steak (cooked medium) and chicken (flavorful and succulent not overcooked at all) were both well executed and well seasoned. The ambiance is definitely tavern style shabby chic, and it looks like it's a local gem. Has a well stocked bar, but I didn't order a drink this go-round. Now I have an excuse to return. Can't wait.

Great location and food. We just discovered this place and gave it a try. It's only been open for about six months. This place is nested in a small group of stores, businesses and cafes. There's rooftop seating which gives you a nice view of the Bay. Great place to hang on a beautiful afternoon or evening. After, you can do some shopping or stroll around the neighborhood. We ordered the ground short rib burger without the bun and the grilled chicken sandwich. Friendly staff and service. Like many places, we felt the prices were a bit high. We'll offset this next time by sharing plates.

We stopped by this tavern for lunch and got the short rib burger. The beef patty was very juicy and the blue cheese added a great kick.

One of our coworkers recommended Gather, a large, farm-to-table restaurant, so five of us ventured here for a business dinner. The food and service were definitely 5 stars. Great laid back vibe. We came on a Tuesday night and yet the restaurant eventually got busier through the night. My favorite dishes were: Yellowtail Sashimi and Corn Riblets are both great appetizers and full of flavor. We should have double ordered to split among five. The half roasted chicken had crispy skin and was fairly well seasoned and moist. I don't indulge in desserts as much these days but if split a few desserts among five people you get 1/5 the calories, LOL! I recommend the warm bread pudding, pecan sundae, and salted chocolate chip cookies. In case street parking is difficult (it often is in Berkeley!), the restaurant is located right next to Oxford Garage which has a low flat fee for weeknights.

For our drinks, I had the Moonlight Blossom, my aunt had a glass of red wine, and my mom had a cucumber mint spritzer (mocktail as she was the DD). The moonlight blossom tasted similar to cherry limeade. The entrees we had were the mussels, veggie burger, and the chef's market pizza. The mussels themselves were tasty and appreciated that they were able to leave out the chorizo. However, I wish that they brought a spoon and there was more broth. I tried some of my mom's veggie burger and the red color from the beets made it stand out from the usual veggie burger. The fries tasted homemade. I had a slice of the pizza and while I like the ingredients themselves, the combination just didn't do it for me. The crust was good though! We also shared a green goddess salad, which was tasty. The desserts looked amazing but we had no room! Service was friendly and our waitress made good recommendations. Can park on the side streets or the garage. Restaurant was not noisy. Would come back to try other items, especially dessert.

I've been here for date nights, holiday dinners, business dinners, and countless meals with friends visiting from out of town. It's one of those rare restaurants that seems to work for just about any occasion. The menu is varied enough that there's always something for everyone, and I've never had a bad meal here. I was genuinely sad to hear that they'll be closing at the end of the year. Restaurants with this kind of quality, consistency, and character are increasingly rare. If you've never been, make a point of going while you still can. I'll certainly miss it once they're gone.

Sloppy service for sure. It apparently wasn't our waiter's fault, who was super friendly, but some manager or somebody, who did completely the wrong thing without double checking, and grabbed our food and set it down on some other patron's table, who I guess then began eating it. Seriously? The food has always been good here but the atmosphere super loud and echoey, not good. So, needless to say, I'm glad they are closing. It's just unfortunate that they are leaving somewhat bad terms with me.

The sandwiches come with a side, so one plate we did fries with a house-made aioli and the other plate, their quinoa kale salad. Delicious. Such hearty portions! The bread is so fresh, the meat juicy and ample, and flavors just right. We also ordered beer on tap, shoutout to Oakland United, and tried their house-made hot sauce that they also sell by the bottle. Would love to come back to try brunch here too. If you dine in their dining area, it's prix-fixe. On my Mom's birthday, they had a salad, pasta, steak, and ice cream.
