More like a 3.5. I had heard good word of mouth about this place. We were looking to try some place new Saturday night for dinner, so we went here. They are a tiny place in a small strip mall. We arrived early and could pick whatever table we wanted. They cram a lot of tables in there and as the place filled up, it was pretty noisy. They feature four course meals for just under twenty bucks. Their menu offers both Greek and Italian choices. We weren't hungry enough for the large four course meals, so we opted to order off the rest of the menu. I got the appetizer sampler as my entree. It was fine. A little too heavy handed on the garlic though. My boyfriend ordered the kabobs. He said they were good. Our friend got the Rosemary chicken breast with pasta. It looked really good. The portion sizes were generous. Go early as it gets very crowded. read more

Acropolis is my favorite place in Metairie for a Gyro. The restaurant is small... located on the far end of a strip mall off of Veterans, but the food always delivers. 5 stars on every aspect. I first came here on a whim, accompanied by a Metry native who insisted they had amazing gyros and marinara sauce. I'm never one to quibble with multiple expertise (Your restaurant specializes in both Italian and Greek cuisine? What, you sing opera AND can juggle fire? Can't believe I'm meeting a marble-sculptor who tightrope walks!) and was pleasantly surprised to discover this tiny gem, tucked away in a forgettable strip mall, was almost literally across the street from the gym. This has, however, been the downfall of many a well-meant work-out session. The restaurant is small and unassuming with about ten tables. The walls are adorned with blown-up tourism posters for Greece, a fully stocked bar sits in front of the kitchen, and an updated daily whiteboard advertises a nightly 4-course dinner (Caesar salad, choice of soup, entree, and bread pudding)... for $17.95. Oh yes. Acropolis is extremely affordable, loads on the portions, and tasty as can be. I am a loyalist to the gyro platter (a dinner and tomorrow's lunch serving of flavorful and juicy lamb) loaded on a platter with steak fries, pita bread, and served with Caesar salad (which tends to be heavy on the Parm but I guess this is America and we expect it). I have also tasted and loved the lasagna (sweet, spicy, and savory, the 3 tenets of my future country's Constitution), moussaka (delicately layered potato, lamb, and eggplant), and chicken Acropolis (angelhair pasta served with chicken breast, eggplant, spinach, and the aforementioned abrosiac marinara). They also provide takeout service, as evidenced by the throng coming in for phoned-in orders. It seems like business is good but it could be better. Do yourself a favor next time you're in the hood ("You know, Metairie.... it's where the Target is") and stop by for lunch or dinner. You'll regret nothing. read more

Acropolis is one of our favorite workday lunch places. It's also great for the family as they have Mediterranean food but also pizza and pasta, something for everyone. The Greek salad is huge and really good, dressed with a balsamic vinaigrette and tzajiki and topped with gyro meat or rosemary crusted chicken. The sandwiches are good with soft pita and your choice of side. I like the grilled veggies but I have friends who worship their thick cut French fries. The prices here are very reasonable and the special are good as week as cheap. Daily soup specials from aglomenma to the decadent 5 onion (a cream onion soup topped with puff pastry.) I love their baba ganush which is just an excuse for roasted garlic and their appetizer platter is worthwhile too. Since my stomach has constantly been telling me please get me a Gyro asap and Acropolis Cuisine has been known to dish out some tasty Greek cuisine (I have been told to dine her a couple of times), I went to check it out. I was by myself and not in the mood to eat alone so I decided upon carryout. At some restaurants, carryout customer don't get the same level of service as dine in customers but that was not the case here. While waiting for my order and scoping out the scene, I could tell that it was a nice restaurant as appearances go and I would not hesitate to bring family or friends here. The Gyro had good flavor but the meat, a combo of beef and lamb, was just a little too darn salty. The pita bread was good, the tomatoes and lettuce were fresh and the tzatziki sauce was tasty. It was piled with so much meat, unless you have a hefty appetite, you will have a hard time finishing it. Overall, it was delectable. You have the option of steak fries or grilled vegetables as a side. I opted for the latter and really liked it. Whatever it is that they added to it, it was phenomenal! I also ordered a Baklava to finish of my meal. It was delicious but super sweet. I could have done without all that honey but that is a typical Baklava addition. I was excited to try this place. Never Again. We go in, there us one empty table and NO sign saying wait to be seated. After we sit down at a 6 person table, other people at a nearby 4 person table leave. The waitress comes and informs us that after she cleans a smaller table we will need to move. We left. It was so rude. Two or three months later, we wanted to give this place one more try, so we went back. The restaurant was basically empty, but we were seated at a cramped table right near the door, where we would be blasted by cold air every time the door opened. I went to the restroom and there was dried vomit on the bathroom floor. Now, I realize that this restroom could be shared by multiple businesses, but I personally thought that if I knew my customers were using a restroom for a restaurant, I would want it to be clean. I went back to join my family at the table, and I opened the menu left on my service plate, and saw that it was splattered with debris from various meals. I asked my husband if his menu was dirty, it was, and my daughters' were as well. On the back of the menu that was TOUCHING MY PLATE, there was crap that was about to flake off. After visiting Acropolis for lunch this week, I'm extremely confused. I was told that this place had excellent, authentic Greek food. The menu boasts very few typical Greek dishes and many more Italian. The spinach and cheese pie appetizer was tasty enough, but nothing authentic. My gyro was lackluster. On top of this "meh" culinary experience, I received horrendous service. My boyfriend and I were seated for 10 minutes before receiving menus, and our server (who was, granted, very friendly) fudged our order. I didn't even have an opportunity to inform her of this, because she was far too distracted by a large party to pay us any notice. I'm giving two stars based on the service (perhaps a fluke?) and the fact that the food wasn't awful. But as a Greek who was really looking forward to some of my favorite home cooked meals, two stars feels generous. I was pretty disappointed. read more

I was staying in Metairie on business and decided to check this place out due to great reviews on Yelp and Urbanspoon. It was extremely difficult to find if you're not familiar with the area because the sign (and restaurant) are SO small. It's in the little strip mall with the Subway next to an Arbys. There's parking in the back so if you miss it you can turn down the next side street and come up from behind to park. The menu is very small which is okay if everything on it is as good as what I had, which, judging by the waitress' descriptions, it should be. I had the gyro platter. I came in ravenously hungry and the portion was big enough that breathing became a challenge. I had the vegetables with mine and they were cooked perfectly (for me, a little undercooked) and seasoned with some kind of magical Greek herbs that made zucchini, broccoli, and carrots my new favorite vegetables. The gyro meat was divine - plenty of crispy brown bits and bigger meaty slices. And the BEST part was the tzatziki. It was in the middle of the plate for a reason. I've been trying to come up with my own for years and apparently this is what I've had in my head but never tasted before. Lots of garlic, a little bit of cucumber and dill and the perfect cool creaminess to offset the the oil on the gyro meat. If you've driven past this place a thousand times and never stopped, what are you waiting for? If I'm ever in New Orleans again for pleasure, you can bet I'm stopping back at Acropolis. read more

This restaurant has a bright, inviting atmosphere and great service. We got the acropolis sampler, which included amazing spinach and cheese pie, hummus, tzaziki, and an interesting take on baba ghanoush. The hummus and ghanoush were a little more garlicky than usual, but that is a plus in my book! The meal was a traditional greek salad with gyro meat. It was very good and had a generous helping of meat. I would not recommend the baklava, but that did not take away from the overall quality of the meal read more

They care more about the 20 to go orders they just put out than the people actually sitting in the restaurant to eat. Then they tell you "the kitchens backed up" . But still taking to go orders. No attention to in-house customers. Waiters too busy wrapping and taking care of to gos. Sat with empty drink almost 20 minutes before they were done wrapping the to go orders ask if we needed anything. Poor business model, should take care of the people I house first and put to go orders on hold. read more

Excellent dinner here the other night. The baba ganoush is incredible. So wonderful it feels like it's from heaven. Both husband and I ordered the gyro's. The steamed veggies were really well done but the fries were so light and easy. The gyro meat was a delicious and super filling. At the end we had a piece of baklava drizzled with chocolate syrup and it was decadent. I would recommend this place for the food alone but the service was also incredible and we paid less than $30 for everything including the tip! read more

Had a small dinner party catered a couple of weeks ago and since I love Acropolis, decided to order half pan of patisichio, Grilled vegetables and a nice Greek salad. All of my guests raved about delicious the food was. The patisichio was moist and yummy. The vegetables were grilled to perfection, just perfect and the Greek salad was huge and delicious. The food was the hit of party. Everyone raved about the food. Acropolis never disappoints, give them a try next time you have friends over for dinner. Here it is almost three years later and it was time to check out Acropolis again. Party of 5 about 6PM on the Friday after Thanksgiving. This is a small place kind of hidden in a small strip mall. If you are not looking for it, you will not find it. I would guess it seats 40 - 50 people. Basic decor, Greek style music in the background. We arrived without reservations (I assume they take them). At that point, about half the seats were filled. We were immediately seated. Menu's and drinks followed in a timely manner. About that time, more customers started rolling in and service suffered significantly. They were clearly overwhelmed by the end of our meal. Food was excellent. We had a variety of menu offerings and all were excellent. I personally had the pan fried trout and it was as good as any fish dish I have had. This place is a hidden gem. Good value for your dollar. They need to ensure they have enough staff to handle a full room. I'm not sure what I was thinking with my original 5 star ranking so I have to recalibrate and take one away. Still a good choice and worth a drive across town. read more

I have eaten at Acropolis a number of times with my parents who eat there regularly. Every experience has been very good. The appetizer plate is enough for a meal. I like all parts of it and usually only have a few pita bread slices left. I have also had each of the wrap sandcishes - pork, chicken, and gyro. The gyro is the best. The jaliki (yogurt dressing) on all wraps is excellant. The pork wrap was the only one that disappointed in that the pork was not tender. Wraps are accompanied by grilled vegetables or fries. I have sampled the baklava and it is very good. Sweetness of it makes it too rich for me. Two pieces come to an order and would be enough for two to split especially after eating a full meal. The restaurant is family owned and worked. The service is excellant. read more

Whenever I'm in Metairie for work (which is often) I make sure to stop in here at least once. I've enjoyed everything I've eaten here, but the pork chops are the clear winner, in my opinion. I love pork chops and order them at restaurants often, and this is easily the best pork chop for the money that I've ever encountered. The 6 onion soup is delicious unique and not always available, when you see on the menu order it right away! It's a creamy soup with a buttery puff pastry topping. The hummus is thicker than most (which I like a lot) and the baba ghanoush is served warm and garlicky. Gyro meat is fresh and the salads are large. Try it, you will like it! read more

Gotta love this place! This place single handedly gave me the ability to introduce over five of my friends to ethnic food. In my opinion it is a treasure and one of the best restaurants to take your friends if you want to introduce them to something different besides burgers and cajun/creole food. (when you grow up eating Cajun in Louisiana, it is not ethnic in your case) Pita bread here is of high quality. It is obviously fresh made and not something sitting in a bag for 2 or 3 days. Gyro meat here is also of exceptional quality. I have yet to try the Baklava though because I tend to be stuffed after eating so that is a tragedy. Give this place a shot! read more

Absolutely fantastic, authentic Greek food in the middle of Metairie, LA! My boyfriend found this little restaurant buried in a store front center one evening and we stopped in for dinner. The cook is a first generation Greek American who regularly returns to Greece to visit, and the influence shines through in his recipes. We had the Acropolis sampler which had hummus, baba ganoush, and jajiki with warm pita along with a spinach and cheese pie. All are made from scratch and have a great flavor! We then had the lentil soup (also homemade and exceptionally good). I had the Greek salad with gyro meat and he had the daily 4-course special which offers a salad, soup, entree, and dessert for $18.95. The overall experience was great with friendly waitstaff, great food, timely delivery of each course and efficient processing of the ticket. We will be returning! read more

Wow...this restaurant has such great reviews that I feel bad for disagreeing. I love Greek food, and I have to say that Acropolis Cuisine is just okay. Very so-so. It is not authentic because the food is much heavier and greasy than real Mediterranean food. I definitely feel like this restaurant has Southern, Creole influence, because some of the dishes I've had here actually taste Cajun rather than Greek. Greek food is supposed to be tasty without being overly powerful in flavor and definitely isn't supposed to be oily. Unfortunatley, Acropolis' food doesn't not meet these characteristics. read more

Came here for dinner with a friend one night. Place is very quaint but has a dressy casual feel to it. Of course making me instantly regret bumming in a pair of sweatpants. The selection of food is standard Greek cuisine (obviously) It didn't appear to be missing anything. I found myself slightly upset when the waiter said the specials merely because I am a vegetarian and hearing sliced, diced, seared, and roasted next to veal and other animals isn't pleasant. I guess I understand since the general population is not. Ordered the hummus, moussaka appetizer without the cheese pie. It was great. Food was very impressive. We did have to ask the waiter a few times for drinks and twice for extra dressing. However the experience was fairly pleasant :) read more
