Even though I am not exactly the demographic for this kind of store, my husband is, and I like to come with him and see his child-like excitement over what he calls "my expensive little cardboard rectangle hobby." Walking in, we were greeted right away and were asked if we needed help. My husband rattled off whatever words get him his cards and we were guided to an expert. They had exactly what my husband needed and it was for the price it was supposed to be. While he was doing this, I walked around the store a bit. It can seem a little bit overwhelming but there is a clear order in here and I don't think it would be hard to find whatever it is you are looking for in here. There are tables in the middle of the store where people were playing. I noticed a lot of older sets of the game my hubs plays and he was saying that they are fairly well priced as well. Overall, my hubs says he does want to come back because of their friendliness and availability of product. I want to come back just to look at all the items they have. Fun times! read more

Never have I felt more like shit going into a comic store. At first I felt like a constant eyes were on me when I was browsing, with the occasional "do u need help" from an employee. I was told someone would help me, but after 15 minutes nobody showed up. And on top of that, someone threw a piece of cardboard straight at my head. I was like wtf? Am employee came over and said "wow what was that it just came out of nowhere huh?" Like I'm so fucking idiot. If ur gonna throw things at potential customers I genuinely recommend you shut down. Never have I felt more embarrassed and alone shopping a comic store, somewhere we should all be allowed to be ourselves. Same on you guys, I'll never return here. I have tried to check this place out NINE times in the past 4 months. 7 times, middle of the day and doors are locked. No one there. Twice I came at night and once I was shooed away because it was a private event. Another was at 6:59 and they were cleared out and the employee almost backed into me pushing people out. went here for the first time with my boyfriend a while ago, and we were helped by the sweetest girl ever. She was so knowledgeable of MTG, and was super excited that I was starting to get into the game. She was the absolute best! However, I went here again, alone, during my lunch break to buy a couple of single cards and some boosters, as well as ask a couple questions about commander decks. The guy that helped me, a taller guy with long, dark hair in a pony tail, was an absolutely massive drillbit. He was super rude, very dismissive, and seemed like he was really annoyed with me asking questions. He threw the singles I was buying down on the counter without a care in the world, and they were foil cards; like, come on, man? I'm buying those, and those aren't cheap! And, when I had asked if there were any snake-based commander pre-cons (again, I am newer to MTG, so this was a genuine question), the same guy didn't even hesitate to respond extremely rudely and dismissively. The owner is also a super cool, stand up guy, and the first girl we had met at the counter was absolutely wonderful. This person I had interacted with at the counter today really put a bad taste in my mouth, questioning if I should come back again if he's going to act like that? I wish I could have gotten his name. Thank you to the owner and that girl (I also wish I had gotten her name) though, for making my first experience at Action Comics a great one. This other guy needs his attitude to be put in check. This isn't my closest shop but it is my go-to almost every week for my comic pick ups. So much selection and a lot of back issues on current popular runs. I've been going here for a while to buy Pokémon cards I've spent hundreds if not thousands but I'm not sure who the older white gentleman is but he lacks patience's gave me a smart comment while I was deciding what cards to get MOST IMPORTANTLY I picked up a pack of surging sparks and it honestly looks so suspicious in terms of resealed mind you I bought a booster pack and a few other packs. The other ones are completely fine but for some reason one out of the five packs I bought definitely looked tampered with or something obviously I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt something could've happened from factory, but it is worthy noting that read more

I have visited Action Comics and Sports five times, intending to make a purchase, but I have only completed one transaction. While some variability in customer service is to be expected, the lackluster service here makes for a frustrating shopping experience. I am giving two stars because on two of my visits, the employees did make an effort to assist me and answer questions. However, on my other visits, I was brushed off, and the employees left the encounter at something along the lines of "Oh, I'm not sure/I don't know." I find the price increases on trading card game (TCG) products to be predatory, especially given the target audience of TCGs. Young players, unknowing parents, or rookie collectors who may not fully understand the market value of these items, may not realize their TCG boxes are marked up at least 30% higher than their market value. (Use TCGPlayer.com to check market prices). While I appreciate supporting local businesses, the combination of high prices, limited selection, and lackluster service makes it difficult to recommend this store. read more

I've never been so embarrassed.. My buddy has a collection of comics that's pretty amazing. He's missing 2 to complete his Star Wars comic set. For 1977 If I remember right.. Anyways he asked me if I wanted to go with him to run to a couple stores and try to find them. We ended up at action comics and went inside and they had a decent collection of comics. So he started looking for what he needed and I just kind of started wandering around the store.I was having a decent time looking around. The girl behind the counter came out to the floor and asked me if there was anything specific I was looking for and I told her no I'm just looking around. I continued walking around looking at random comics and action figures and then the young lady again pops up behind me like Mr. deed style and asked me if I'm into Warhammer. I said no I don't know what Warhammer is. She just kind of chuckled and started adjusting boxes on the shelf. Kind of gave me a weird feeling, but I just kinda smiled and turned around and walked away to another aisle about 13 seconds later here she is again asking if I'm into puzzles and so I replied again no, I'm not into puzzles I'm just kind of looking around. I'm here with a friend. it's kind of making me uncomfortable at this point so again I just smiled and kind of walked off and kept looking around the next thing you know the gentleman working at this time said to me we're gonna be closing up here pretty soon so you guys gotta finish up. It was about 615 and I asked the guy what time they close in. He told me usually they close at 7 o'clock but today they're gonna be closing a little bit early me and my friend just kinda looked at each other confused.. I looked at the guy and said okay?? I look behind me to see where my buddy is and this girl is right behind me again damn near breathing down my neck. At this point, I finally said what is the problem here why do you have to be breathing down my neck while I'm looking around the store? Her coworker chimed in at this point and told me "oh we have you on camera shoplifting in here." I said, "sir I've never been to this store in my life. I think you might be mistaking me for somebody else." he said "no it's you because the person watching the cameras told me it was you and told me to watch you." I reminded him again that I had never been to the store and knew nothing about comics. I was just simply here with a friend. He told me "no it's you." I told him if he had me on camera stealing in the store, why did he even let me inside the store at all when if they thought they recognized me? Why didn't they just tell me to leave right then in there? he just gave me like a rude condescending smile and just said oh we're closing now I said OK have a good night and I walked outside and waited for my friend to come out. He came out about five minutes later and then we left my buddy found one of the comments he was looking for there. I think it was about $125. He was going to buy, but he said when you heard the way that that guy was talking to me and it just put a bad taste in his mouth. He just decided as bad as he wanted the comic he just didn't want to buy it from somebody that treated customers like that.. I understand people steal from stores and the store is not in the best part of town, but if you're going to accuse somebody of stealing from your store, you should make damn sure you got the right person. I was completely embarrassed in front of my friend and I'm still thinking about the way those people made me feel two days later.. That's why I'm writing this yelp review. It's not right to profile people. And that's exactly what this store owner did. I hope they do better read more

They told me one of their workers was well-informed on the topic of Warhammer 40k, and I've been looking to get into the hobby of building and painting miniatures. They have a handful of selections when it came to paints, and I was able to find army sets that were even more affordable than some online stores and places. It was also nice knowing that there was an option to even ask if the store could order a particular item that wasn't quite at their store, which is very nice. read more

Been coming here for years and glad there is at least one reliable comic shop on Boulder highway. They have an excellent selection of graphic novels and even a discount section with lots of full boxes of graphic novels. If you play magic the gathering they have plenty of cards and supplies. They even have tables where you can play as well. I took off a star because unfortunately the owner is a little abrasive and always short with me when I come in. Luckily his wife is very friendly as is the rest of the staff. Which is the stores saving grace for me. read more

This place has so much. A lot of items don't have prices but that is probably due to the nature of selling collectibles. Each employee appears to be an expert in their areas. My spouse and I were looking for a specific Pathfinder book and didn't feel like ordering it online. A couple people had recommended Action Comics as a good RPG/boardgame store and we were in the area, so we decided to check it out. The store itself is larger than many other comic stores. Most of the middle of the store is dedicated to tables. When we walked in on a Saturday there were four or five games going on. It looks like a popular place to play Magic or Warhammer. The selection of boardgames was good, and I appreciated the "Free Boardgames to play" section, although I didn't take them up on that. I was also ecstatic that they had miniatures for Pathfinder and many other games. I don't play Warhammer, but they had a decent section of the wall dedicated to pieces from that game. I didn't purchase any comics, but they seemed to have a good assortment. They also had other bits of nerdery: t-shirts, posters, statues, pins, materials for painting figures and dice. We ended up buying a lot of paint and brushes for painting our miniatures, and the employees/other patrons were very helpful with their advice. If I lived in the area I would definitely consider playing there. read more

My dad was a comic book lover his whole life. He used to take me into shops he loved and would get me a comic of my choice. He suddenly passed away in September of last year and I've been taking it pretty hard. I work at another store in this parking lot and spent about 15 minutes today trying to will myself to go into this store. Of course the minute I started looking around, I was crying. I didn't feel like I was being judged at all. I was able to easily locate 3 comics I wanted and was able to check out. The nice guy working never once made me feel like he was judging me. I'm sure you could tell I had been crying from the tear stains on my foundation. But he never made it known. I just want to thank whoever he was for being kind. You have made my day and I'm sure that I will continue to stop by often. read more

Comic books? I don't know diddly squat about comic books but my 5 year old wanted some Marvel ones after one of his friends got some. After looking at Yelp and seeing 4 1/2 Stars for Action Comics they made my short list of places to check out. And after one visit here I never made it to anywhere else....I didn't need to. When I walked in it didn't take long until one of the staff was coming up to help me. He showed me how the store was layed out and how to find what I was looking for. He even took a few minutes and helped me go through a couple of the boxes and quickly helped me locate what I was looking for. After that I took a few more minutes to look around...and I liked what I saw. The center of the store has tables setup for board games...and I saw quite a few different games in progress. I asked a couple of questions about one of the games...which I learned was Warhammer 40K and I got friendly replies...no attitude at all and they got me interested in learning more about the games. As I walked around the store I have to admit it's packed around the edges...but that's part of what makes this place so appealing. They've got a lot of good stuff in there. When it comes time to check out I didn't have to wait very long, and again the service I received was great. I had questions about stuff I saw in the display cases on my way out and the staff was quick to answer. I love service with a smile...it wins me over every time. I like this place, I will be back, but I'm glad I don't have time to get pulled into Warhammer 40K because it really looks like fun. 4 Stars. This show has a nice selection and variety of graphic novels, comics, toys, and cards. When I visited (a Wednesday evening) I was a little uneasy having to navigate through narrow aisles--but I will be fair and say that may not be the permanent arrangement of the shop, they were holding a Magic tourne (may have been another game, I didn't get a good look). Very cool store. They have a TON of random stuff you could very well be into, and you can easily find something new to get into. The selection is fantastic, and they carry carry everything from comics to rare rp board games and miniatures. It's a fun adventure walking through all the aisles and shelves. My biggest thumbs up? This is a fairly great comic book store stocked full of all the comic books you are looking for and the novelty and memorabilia to satisfy any fanboy. I had hoped for a better selection of the back issues that I am searching for but that isn't really their fault so much as it what comes into them. I liked the knowledge of the personel.
