My water heater died on a Friday evening. I called the manufacturer (Rheem) and since it was a couple of months out of warranty they basically said, "too bad for you". I called Action One first thing Saturday morning and was told they would have someone out in an hour or so. Chad arrived and he was super personable and professional. He looked at the set up and suggested a couple of minor fixes in addition to replacing the water heater and a few hours later I had hot water again. I was afraid that the quarantine would affect getting someone to help, but not only did I get help it was quick and professional. Starting to sour on Action One. They replaced a water heater less than a year ago, at considerable expense including some code-required changes, that I was ok with. Fast forward to now, the hot water heater failed due to a $10 part going bad. I was getting the "good deal" by not getting charged for the $10 part, but the replacement took over an hour, which means rounded up to 2 hours at $125 an hour. $250 bill for replacing a $10 part that could/should have been less than an hour (and replaced under warranty). On a water heater that they originally installed. I'll leave it to others to decide if that cost-to-service ratio makes sense. I'm not happy about it, and will be looking elsewhere in the future for plumbing/hot water heater servicing. read more

My partner called this company to get our kitchen drain unclogged and the guy came out with a helper, we had a coupon. He looked under the house and told us we need to have some pipes replaced because of the slope. He then quoted us some ridiculous price to fix all of this other stuff which was crazy. My partner immediately told them to get out of our house because THEY ARE CROOKS! We called another Plummer who said easy fix, in clogged the sink for $80 and we will never use this company. If there was the option to submit a negative star, I would have selected that instead. I am a landlord and my tenant reported a pretty significant leak under the kitchen sink. I looked on line and found Action One plumbing. The site indicated they offered free estimates so I passed the contact number to my tenant with the instructions to obtain an estimate and let me know the cost prior to the start of any work. She was impressed that they would respond within the hour...Great. A short time later I was notified by my tenant that Javier showed up, "tightened something under the sink" and gave her an invoice for $125 dollars! She explained that he had not been authorized to do the work, only provide the free estimate. His response? We don't do free estimates, and we charge a "driving fee". She reiterated that she was supposed to get approval for the cost first from her landlord, but he insisted that he did the work so she owed him the money. She paid him and he was on his way. She contacted me immediately to explain, showed the invoice to me. (Which was illegible so I still have no idea what he did to fix the leak!) I immediately called back Action One and spoke to a female employee who told me the owner was not available to speak to but would try to help. She eventually broke down and gave me the contact number for Steve, the owner. My first question is how is this guy still in business with the practices he supports? I explained the situation to Steve and he stated that they do not give free estimates in person, only over the phone. Now I may not be the most intelligent person in the world but when a website states "Free Estimates" and "call us today for a free estimate", I think it is safe to assume that they will offer a free estimate. However, business owner Steve explained that they only provide free estimates over the phone. Really? So they can provide an accurate estimate for a "leak" having never laid eyes on the problem? Wow! Seems far fetched to me. Next he explained that this was called in as a job, not an estimate therefore his plumber was authorized to complete the work, despite the tenant informing Javier that she needed authorization from her landlord prior to anything. This next piece is priceless...he asked what I wanted him to do about it and I told him I expected him to return payment to my tenant. He agreed and then threatened that he would also have the plumber go into the house and "unrepair" the leak because I could not expect to not pay for a completed job....SERIOUSLY?!?! I explained that if anyone attempted to step foot in the home, I would have the police there to greet them. He then threatened me that he would call his attorney and get back to me. Within 15 minutes, my tenant contacted me to state that "the man" called her, apologized and stated he would not cash her check. Oh and I forgot, they also stated they were giving her a $50 discount so she could write a review on Yelp...so in keeping to her word, here is the review. I hope you have found it helpful. read more

Skip this company. Made an appointment between 8-10 am. Called at 10:45 am to find out was going on. No apology, no calls to let know what was going on... At the very least a text to say I'm running 45 minutes late because of an emergency! Or I'm running late due to piss-poor planning. Nope nothing. This is the type of company that gives plumbers the reputation of being inconsiderate. Look , no one is happy to call a plumber. Usually it's embarrassing. And money you don't want to spend. But action one and Steve the owner are a really great company. He cares about his customers and goes above and beyond. He even came back to my place for free and helped me with something that wasn't part of the original kitchen issue. The plumber that was here talked me through what he was doing and why. Plus they came right away. In the past i had to wait a long time with other companies , usually when it was a toilet issue and i needed help fast. And to the people complaining that they could buy parts for cheaper - YEAH that's why it's a business. They maybe charge a small fee to get the fixtures etc but that's why they are the ones putting them in for you. I had a ton of questions and concerns. Money is an issue for me. And they did a great job and I wouldn't hesitate to use them again. read more

These people are CROOKS! They quoted me $175 to unclog the drain. When Javier arrived with his helper and checked underneath my house he started talking about replacing lines and charging some ridicules amount. After I declined he started demanding the $175 service fee without doing anything. After calling his boss he offered me to try to clean the drain. If he succeeded I had to pay him $200 if not he was going to charge $100 for trying. Long story short, he tried and didn't open and charged me $100. After they left, my water heater stopped working, I then discovered that one of them turned off the gas, I can't understand why? Do not use this company. I had a leaking hot water tank. Called this company because it is on Rheem's recommended list. The list is not reliable at all. Tank was under warranty. Plumber removed tank without permission, came back the next day and installed a tank supposedly from Home Depot. Action One charged us a new tank price (not the warranty replacement price) plus labor. They could not produce a receipt from Home Depot. I called Home Depot and was told that I've been had. I saw their ad on the Local Flavor magazine; and the first plumbing company to respond back on a Saturday afternoon. Quick & easy garbage disposal replacement by their plumber(Julian). Probably better if I had bought the disposal myself and have them install it. Prices are comparable to other plumbing companies around. Highly recommend this company for their service. I got Action One Plumbing number from the water heater company, the water heater was less than a week old. The water heater company send the parts and I scheduled for them to show up between 9-11 AM. The tech showed up at 2 PM, even before looking at the water heater he said it cost $250. I told him it's brand new and it covered. We have a big talk and then the tech said I'll do it. We had been having trouble with a tub that wouldn't drain. It had gotten progressively worse. It turned out that we have an unusual pipe layout and trap that is not easy to get at. No amount of drain cleaner or snaking worked. We called Action One, and they were out in less than 1/2 hour. They fixed the problem with minimal fuss. I decided to wait to see if these guys would come through on their promises before I posted a negative review....but clearly that is not going to happen, so here goes.... I called Action One because I got a discount coupon in the mail. Bad idea and I learned my lesson, because I did not search for reviews first. I had just bought a new refrigerator and wanted to have the ice maker hooked up. I also wanted them to replace a faucet in my shower. The guy showed up and was quite friendly. He went under the house and told me that it looked like I already had a hookup to a fridge icemaker running to my kitchen wall, and I had no idea, because my old fridge did not have one. He was strong and was able to move the new fridge out enough to see behind and...lo and behold...he did not have to repipe anything! So far so good. I bought a $10 hose from him and he proceeded to attach it to the wall and fridge and made the ice maker work. Yay. Then, he left and picked up the new faucet for my shower at a place nearby and attached it. He told me it cost him $20. I was satisfied with the work, but when it was time to pay, he said, "I have to go call my boss to get the pricing." Then he charged me $350! I don't know anything about pricing, but I paid it although clearly I could have argued, but I did not feel comfortable doing that. When he left, I called Sears, where I had bought the refrigerator and asked them how much it would be to refit my kitchen for the ice maker for the fridge I bought. They said, "$150." I said, "but what if there is already a hook-up there from a previous fridge?" They said, it would not cost anything. So I had to deal with why Sears didn't even hook it up in the first place (which is another story), but I realized that I got overcharged by Action One. I called the next day, and Steve, the owner, told me he would look into it and call me back the following day. He did not. I waited another day and called again. He answered and said he wanted to make his customer happy so he would send me a coupon for $150 off the next service call. He was not interested in letting me explain about the issue--he clearly wanted me off the phone....right away. He mentioned that his plumber had actually "Saved me money" by "finding" the hook up line in the wall. This made no sense. Was he planning to charge me hundreds more if he had to install a pipe under the house? I waited for the coupon in the mail. Nothing. The following week, a customer rep, named Linda, I think, called me to ask if everything was taken care of to my satisfaction regarding the work of the previous week. I told her that she must not be aware of the fact that I had complained and was waiting for my coupon. She looked at her notes, and said, yes, she was aware. So I asked why no one had bothered to mail it to me. She said she would do so right away and then call me to make sure. I told her that I was considering writing a complaint on Yelp, but that I would wait to see if I got the coupon first. I got nothing. Not even a call. It has been a couple of weeks now, so I don't care anymore and I am just writing this complaint so people are aware of the poor service of this company and beware of them. I feel that if you complain about their pricing, they just have a mantra that they repeat in order to get rid of you--we will send you a discount coupon--then they don't do it. Clever bit of scamming, because you end up disliking them so much that you probably would not call them again--discount or not! read more
