Hot water heater went out the night before so I called Payless after reading Yelp Reviews early the next morning. They answered the phone immediately, and had a service guy out later that day. They sent me his picture along with the confirmation so I'd know he was the right person. There was a delay in him getting there because another job took longer than he anticipated but they kept me updated and asked if it was still okay for him to come at the next two hour service window. I appreciated that because it was respectful of my time. Of course it was fine. Darren arrived, assessed the situation, and gave me three options. I opted to replace the tank and bring it up to code but held off on the tankless option. He came prepared with a high quality heater in the truck with everything he needed so he did the work right then and about two hours later he was done and we had hot water again. The billed amount was the same as the quote he gave me earlier. Not cheap but on par with expected costs and they use high quality components. Called late in the day for a tenant's water heater that quit working, and had an appointment scheduled for next morning. The dispatch and a complimentary text message said they would call half an hour before the tech showed up--unfortunately that call didn't happen BUT the tech was patient as I made my drive over. The tech (Aden) was friendly, informative, sharp, on his game. Gave the heater a thorough inspection, repaired some missing screws in one of the faceplates, cleaned up dust and debris, and got the furnace relit and working. Most importantly he gave me a solid rundown on what to look for, a couple water drainage issues he spotted that may cause us problems in the future, and wrapped up. Cost of the inspection covered his repairs. We were done within an hour. Our tankless water heater died Sunday afternoon and Payless had us back up and running less than 18 hours later with a new unit. The heat exchanger in our old unit was leaking and was not repairable. We had no hot water in our salon for four days. As a salon, we cannot operate without hot water -- this directly caused lost income and major disruption to our business. Initially, an electrician diagnosed the issue as plumbing-related. We then hired Payless Water Heaters. Their technician came out and told us it was an electrical issue. Based on that, we brought the electrician back, who again confirmed it was not electrical. We contacted Payless again and were told they would get back to us. A full day passed with no resolution. At that point, we were on day three without hot water and could not continue waiting. We hired another plumber, who correctly diagnosed the issue immediately as a failed heating element in the water heater. It was repaired the same day (day four), and hot water was restored. After the issue had already been fixed, Payless called to say it was an electrical issue -- which was incorrect. The technician they sent out was polite and seemed like a nice person, which is why I am adding an extra star. However, the misdiagnosis, lack of follow-up, and delay cost us valuable business time. The first day they sent someone else out and he ordered the parts that I needed and he was great also (I forgot his name). The parts arrived the next day at my door with expedited shipping (that I paid for). Once the parts arrived, they were able to come same day if you would like. They have an operator who calls you 45 minutes before arrival and keeps you in the loop. They even sent a text message with the picture of the technician arriving. The only part that kept me from five stars was the fact that they gave me a 9 AM to 11 AM window and then they changed it to an 11 AM to 1 PM window at 9:20 am. Crazy how a month later, something else with my water heater isn't working. I had to get a valved replaced and it cost me 600 dollars. It feels like this company just tampers with other stuff so you call them again for more service. I would definitely stay away from them and I do not recommend their services. When asked how come they didn't notice the valve was already busted, they told me that it was fine when they replaced the water heater. If it was fine, why does it need to be replaced ? After 11 years, my Bradford White water heater stopped working. Not bad for a product that had a 6 year warranty! I searched for water heater repair/replace companies that carried Bradford White water heaters, and then looked up the reviews on Yelp for a few of them. First company I called couldn't come out same day. Next one I called was Payless. They said that they could come out the same day, AND that the technician would have the parts in his van to repair/replace the water heater. Scheduled for between 3pm and 5pm. Payless called at 2:30 and said the tech would arrive in 35 minutes. Spencer from Payless arrived a bit after 3pm, right on time. After about a 5 minute check, Spencer gave me the option to 1) repair my 11 year old water heater, 2) replace it with a new gas water heater, or 3) upgrade to tankless. He gave me the pros and cons of each option. Since I had such good luck with my 6 year warranty 40 gallon Bradford White water heater, I went with replacing it with another Bradford white with a 6 year warranty. Spencer gave me the all-in cost, which included a senior discount and a discount for paying by check. Spencer said that it would take him 2 to 2 1/2 hours to install, and the he got to work. At 5:20, he knocked on my door to say he was done. Went out to inspect it. The area around my new water heater was spotless, and he had brought everything up to code. When I first bought my house, we had the water heater replaced a few times. They were GE and whirlpool and pieces of junk. Also, my home warranty or the water heater warranty paid for the replacements and they always sent out plumbers. Don't EVER call a plumber for water heater issues. They will be at your house for a day or two making multiple trips to the hardware store. Also, and I can't emphasize this enough, ONLY BUY A BRADFORD WHITE WATER HEATER!! I had never heard of them before I had one installed, but they are the best! Finally, Payless Water Heaters is FANTASTIC!! Everything about them is great ~ from the initial call, to the 30 minute notification of arrival call (as promised!), to the quality products they carry and to the install! I cannot recommend them enough!! read more
