I randomly stumbled across this store when I was at Jim's Bakery across the street. This is kind of like Chefs' Toys, but more geared towards Asian kitchen tools. They have a lot of kitchen equipment, appliances, utensils, and almost everything under the sun here. Even though this place sells to restaurants and businesses, I find that there were many items that are priced fair for the average household consumer. Before you start paying an arm and a leg online to order some random Asian kitchen tool (i.e. bamboo steamer baskets/traditional woks), I recommend checking this place out if you can. After a long day of work, I decided to treat myself by checking out Action Sales for kitchen tools. The store caters to restaurants but it is also open to the public, offering the same prices to all who shop there. The only caveat about being a home buyer and not having a restaurant account set up is that all sales are final. So, be diligent in making sure whatever you pick for purchase doesn't have any chips, scratches, and so forth. This was my first time visiting the store and I quickly learned that this store can be a blessing to your kitchen and a curse to your wallet. It is the "candy store" for those who love to cook. You'll find yourself walking around, internally screaming, "JUST TAKE MY MONEY!" Everything you can possibly think that a restaurant would need, you could find here and at affordable prices! Although half of the store is dedicated to displaying large food service equipments, there are a lot of things that at home cooks could purchase (e.g, plates, bowls, spoons, containers, etc.). If you're really into cooking I'm sure you'll find something there that you could use and is sold at a decent price. Or if you're like me and like to aimlessly buy things, you'll walk out with things you don't need but you'll sure feel great since it was such a great price. For example, I walked in not really needing much and walked out with little cooking tools and a 16qt mixing bowl. Did I really need that big of a bowl? No. But am I happy with my purchase? YES! If you're into cooking, definitely check this place out! You won't be disappointed. The aisles are wide enough that you don't feel cramped when someone else is around. I enjoyed visiting for the second time today. I needed to get a nice ice cream scooper. I accidentally ruined my old one by putting it in the dishwasher. You need a restaurant owner account to be a member here, but if you are not a member, you can pay BUT with no refunds or returns. I consider my self a serious home chef. Whenever I have the opportunity, I usually purchase a commercial grade kitchen tools, cookware, etc. to fulfill my need(s). I have purchased from Resco, KaTom, Webstaurant, Chef Toy's and now since I was in the area, Action Sales. I have been searching for 10" Dim Sum steamers, which unless I want to buy in quantity, the pricing has been quite expensive and hard to find a retailer that will sell less than a dozen or more for a reasonable price with reasonable shipping fees. I stumbled onto Action Sales while researching another business in the SGV. Since I live over 80 miles away from Monterey Park, I called to confirm that they had the 10" streamers in stock, which the response was, they were in stock. I stopped by on a recent Saturday afternoon. I walked in and was impressed by the inventory they carried. I liked around and found the steamers, but the shelf area for the 10" was empty. I walked towards the register and found an employee standing silently by the aisle ends. I asked if he could help me find the steamers. He left and returned several minutes later with a box. He handed me the three steamers I asked for: I also grabbed a 10" lid to fit over the steamer(s). I walked around for several more minutes making mental notes on future purchases. I walked up to the front counter where the registers are located. A staff member was helping another patron, so someone called for someone sitting in the center of the office/desk /sales area to help. He did not seem too pleased to be called up and then directed to ring up my sales. My receipt has his name but for now, I'll refer to him as Clerk #133, as indicated on my CC receipt. Not the most personable. Maybe he has has a disdain for non-professional chefs, or a walk-in that do not have a commercial account with Action Sales.....yet. Despite the mediocre level of service from the cashier, I will still shop this company's different locations due to the staff member who helped me with the steamers, decent pricing, and vast array of inventory. read more

Regardless of one being in the culinary industry or a culinary aficionado or the basic home cook (or even one who collects kitchen tools and toys), here is one place in LA that would sate your culinary needs. I didn't come here for my culinary industry needs as I'm personally well over equipped but had come for my personal off time hobby of dabbling "needs" (saying so to justify another purchase to my endless kitchen toys) in the home kitchen testing out fusion recipes and parallel techniques from current and older culinary forms. So that said, I was here for poultry hooks that I needed to hold a chicken safely while ladling hot oil over before processing it further in whatever second technique to bringing about the most tender fowl. It should have not taken me more than 10 minutes to procure and drive off into the sunset. But what happened to a foodie/cook like me happened to any child left at a candy/toy store. Our eyes grow large and our hearts beat faster. I found myself browsing the half of the store that carried just about every possible tool needed to efficiently run any restaurant (and avoided the appliance section, which was the other half, less my tab reached several thousands). There for almost two hours and having carefully browsed every isle on this half of the establishment, it should come as no surprise that I left with far more than just the poultry hooks. I couldn't resist. And honestly, how can anyone do so when the prices are ridiculously cheap and so readily available to leave with you? Checking out was as easy can be as well. Short lines repeatedly formed and associates immediately jumped on assisting the next customer - straightforward and friendly. I opted to not open an account even though I could as one in the industry stating that I was from out of town and purchasing for my personal use. She told me that they have accounts all over the country and if I wanted to be able to return things to set up an account or if I couldn't find what I needed, that they would procure it for me. I told her I'd think about it but as I already am set on keeping everything I had grabbed, I would skip the account set up for now. So if you're not in the industry, the only difference for you here is that you can't return anything you purchased. Otherwise, you still receive the same outstanding prices, service, and goods. That makes this place absolutely perfect for anyone in the industry or anyone else who just wants to have quality industry tested tools for a really good bargain. Starting up my own business and I went to Action Sales to look for a reach in freezer and a proofing cabinet. I visited 2 locations, the first was the location in Industry and the second was in Monterey Park. At the Industry location I walked in and walked around for a bit then made my way to the freezers & proofing cabinets. After looking at a few models of freezers & cabinets, I found a proofing cabinet I really liked. I looked around for a person to help me but none were around. Saw one person walking aisles stocking the shelves but that's it. After a few minutes I left....... A few hours later I made my way to the Monterey Park location.... I pretty much had the same experience, minus someone stocking merchandise and me browsing the store. I went straight to what I was looking for. Anyhow, same result...no help or anything. I just left, not gonna waste anymore of my time here. Needless to say I'll never come back here for anything. Raymond Lee is the worst salesman on the planet! If you are starting a business then do yourself a favor - run far away from this place, and order your equipment elsewhere!!! Not only they didn't honor their quote, they've also increased their pricing on most of the equipment after we placed our deposit. That's beyond shady! A normal salesman would try to make a sale so they can make their commission. Not Raymond! Instead of convincing us to order our equipment, he told us to "just wait, it only takes a few weeks." After we placed our order in late September, he couldn't tell us the ETA and he stopped responding to our emails. I like stopping here for some kitchenware. Typically these kind of places are more for those who run restaurants, but they do sell to normal customers as well. A lot of their kitchenware are fairly cheap and simple. Fairly similar to what you see at restaurants sometimes. It's funny how I've visited Monterey Park for over 20 years but I never had once went into this place until a few years ago. I don't even remember why I randomly decided to come here. I have bought many various items from this place ranging from sharpening stones to cooling racks to polycarbonate tubs i had modified to fit my sous vide machine to toothpicks, tongs, and bowls. They have a lot of commercial products that i drool over but thats only a dream, as i am not a professional chef, but likes to cook at home Prices are decent, cheaper than most places. Jason made the ordering process easy, and even help our unit in their warehouse for months while our construction was underway. What can I say, I have been involved in building (5) Hong Kong Express, (2) fried chicken store, (1) Italian food, (2) Vietnamese food and (7) donut shop's. When getting new equipment I always put my trust on Action Sales. Why? I always price check my equipment no matter whom I buy from, no exceptions. But time and time again Action Sales has mostly beat there price by quite abit, if not it's equal to it. But price alone is not the money maker, it's getting the right equipment and getting caring dedicated people behind you. That's is why Alvin Wang is my go to man. I challenge him constantly to fail my requests, but time and time he finds perfect equipment to alow me to enter into new markets and stream line my kitchen productions. Great place for cheap and unique kitchen items and dishes even if you're not a restaurant

Although their business is built upon sales of restaurant equipment to the restaurant industry they do sell to the general public. With sales to the public there are no returns but that's not a problem for me. It's the rules and I live by rules. If I am sure I want the product I'll buy it and won't want to return it anyway. I buy small things like pizza pans, scoopers, knives cutting boards, sometimes pots and pans, dishes, and other kitchenware. I don't buy big things like popcorn makers, salad bar bars and so forth. I like the prices and I like the selection. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. I give this a positive endorsement. read more

I'm not a chef, but this place was fun to walk around in. This store is across the street from our favorite place to eat dim sum - NBC Seafood. I've always wondered about this place and if they allowed the non-chefs to shop around. Well they do! They had a huge selection of chef stuff and dishes and cups and other chef-y things and gadgets. I would say everything you would need to open up any type of restaurant. I was on a particular mission to find a nice wok. Got one! Good price and made in Japan.
