Just moved here from OC, I'm used to my cuts averaging out at around $45. Came in here with a good feeling thinking it'd be my new go to spot and for the cut I received for the price I paid which came out to $83 it's safe to say that was my first and last time coming here. $80 for a cut is ridiculous and I hope they fix that because at the end of the day barbershops are suppose to help the community and by taxing your prices that high it's not a good look. read more

Neck got cut by the straight razor after the first pass felt pretty rough. I felt the sting but had to ask after about 30 seconds of which I felt him rubbing away the blood every few moments. Would prefer he had said something first. Not sure if blades need to be sharpened or if the barber needs to do shorter strokes with the blade. Either way, say something if you cut someone. read more

Recently had a bad experience here. Called in to make an appointment and showed up right on time. There's 3 people waiting as soon as I get there. 15 minutes go by and I am not called up. I tell one of the barbers about my appointment, and I am basically told that I need to wait until it's my turn. It's very inconvenient for me to show up for said appointment and then having to wait for 3 other people to be done before it is "my turn". Great place to get the same haircut that everyone else gets. You know the cut, shaved on the sides and back, faded toward the top, and a flop of hair let to style and play with. If you want someone to cut your hair and leave anything on the sides and back, stay away. The barbers all look the same, and you will too when you leave here. I asked them to leave an inch or so on the sides and back, as I have curly hair that looks weird when it is really short, but fine after it grows out. After a while of snipping away with the scissors, he pulls out the clippers and starts fading the sides of my head. I am left wearing a hat for a month while my hair grows back out..... My son has been an Active Barbers client since they opened in Santa Monica and now with their second location I am most excited about the walk-in availability. It makes it easy to just drop by and get his haircut without an appointment, although I do recommend you have one if you don't like to wait. This location is much bigger than their first, they have a restroom for clients and water which for me is also a plus. Booked an appointment for a Sunday. Reading lots of great reviews for this location and the one in Santa Monica so was anticipating some great experience. For a charge of $40 I expect pretty amazing quality. My barber took about 10 minutes and didn't really seem to put much effort into it. And I had to ask him to do more work on it. I feel like he was just phoning it in. When I got home I noticed that the back of my head had a a bit of feathery stuff still hanging and the top wasn't quite finished. My wife had to take care of the top and back with clippers and it took 5 minutes. Supercuts would have finished the job for half the price. Want to support local businesses but just seems like they don't really care. During the cut the other barbers were just sitting on their phones chatting. There was hair all over the floor but their phones were more important. Seems like it's all a ruse to get people to pay a lot of money. Definitely not going back. read more

Being from the east coast and relocating out west, finding a new barber was imperative. After trying all the overpriced spots like Baxter Finley, Floyd's, etc. I decided to give my then local spot a try. Everyone at Active is AWESOME and INCREDIBLE at what they do! And the pricing is much cheaper than places like Baxter Finley and other overpriced/overhyped spots. Going to Active is like going to to a shop you see/hear about on TV and in the movies - the atmosphere is a lot of FUN with a lot of joking around and just an overall good vibe - always with sports on in the background or some great music playing. I look forward to going to the shop every week for the atmosphere alone! I've been going to see Rob for close to 2 years now once a week (sometimes twice depending on the week) and he is an absolute BEAST with the scissors I am constantly stopped and asked where I get my haircut, so this review is long overdue. I cannot say enough positive things about Active and all of the barbers at both shops - Rob, Steven, Chris, Napo, Lou, Sal and everyone else at BOTH locations are all masters of their craft...and as someone that frequents both the Santa Monica and Culver City locations, I've seen all of their work first hand and can tell you that whoever you decide to have cut you up....you're in great hands. By far the best barber spot on WestLA! The location is super convenient. Shop is brand new and clean. Although I am a regular at the Santa Monica location, it's great that now I have another location I can go to when I can't get to want Monica. The new location had Lots of parking around the store. Easy freeway access so it was easy for me to drop in and out during my work break. Staff is friendly and funny! And most importantly the cuts are unmatched!!!
