He not only is a G with the clippers and scissors but I have to mention I was looking for a barber in the area and am EXTREMELY picky when it comes to finding a new barber. In 6 years of living in LA, I've run the gamut of barbers. Young, old, big "commercial" shops, non commercial shops, English speaking, non English speaking, $50 sans tip, $15 sans tip, you name it, I've sat in their chairs. I can honestly say that Luis ranks amongst the best I've been cut by. Reasons outside of the haircut: 1. Convenience. Luis cuts out of "Carlos' Barber Shop" on Washington Blvd, which is 5 mins away from DT Culver City, Playa Vista, or a short trek to Santa Monica / and the rest of the West Side. Yes, if you're up near Hollywood etc it might be "LA far" but the thing that'll temper you down is the fact that parking is easy and plentiful. If you can't park right outside the shop on Washington, I've never failed to find parking on the street over on Grand View, especially on the weekends when school is not in session. Luis is also quick to hit you back via text/phone call to book your appointments. Outside of Monday/Tuesday (his days off) he's super easy to schedule with. He'll stay late, open early to accommodate you. My first haircut with Luis was when I was looking extra poofy at 8AM before work, any dude that's willing to wake up for a stranger like that is cool with me. The haircut: 1. Meticulousness. It's sad to say that this is something that is hard to find nowadays in ANY sort of business or expect of any person. When you sit down in front of Luis you can expect a few things. That he's going to take the full 30 mins on your hair. That he's going to ask you exactly what you want and deliver on it - and if there's anything wrong when you're inspecting, he will go back and make sure to do what you ask with 0 attitude and 0 hostility. 2. Trust. If you care about your hair, which is what I assume you do since you're reading this essay of a review, then you know that going to a new barber is stressful. Are they going to know what I'm talking about, are they going to be able to cut it the way I want? For me, Luis answered yes to those anxious questions. I've been getting my hair cut the same exact way for 3 years now and Luis had no problem going off my descriptions alone. If you have a picture of what you want, bring it and I'm sure it'll help him knock it out even farther. He seems to have a pretty good idea of what length, type of fade, and overall style will look good with your hair type / shape / face. If you're coming in with the intent to "let the barber do what he wants to do" with your mop, I'd trust Luis 100% to get you to like what you don't even know yet. 3. Frills to price ratio. A killer fade (he can do 0/skin if you want for $5 more as of the time of this review - $25), a straight blade clean up, and good conversation for $20 pre tip. Massage, shoe shining, etc, is not the deal here, but if that's important to you, just know that and keep looking. __ If you're still reading, go ahead and shoot this guy a text and see what I'm talking about. I'm entering just about 5 months that I started getting cut by Luis and I have no intention to go anywhere else. TLDR: great cut by a cool dude who knows what he's doing, fair prices, convenient location with ample parking for the slab. read more

Luis is the true definition of what a modern day barber should be. I recently came to him looking to find a barber who would listen to what I like and don't like and who would walk through the haircut with me. He wasn't afraid to ask if I wanted something different or if he needed to correct something and that's something you don't find with many barbers now. Most of them are too proud and assume they know what you're looking for and just cut your hair without asking if you're ok with it or not.
