I've been going to Jag's Barbershop since my college days back in 2015. I usually book last minute and go with whoever's available, and in the past 10 years I've yet to be disappointed by any barber here. Shout out to Jose, Gerardo, and David who I've had in the past. Today, after booking a same day appointment, I was met with a pleasant surprise. About midway through my haircut, I found out that the barber cutting my hair was actually the owner, Jorge. I'd seen him around plenty of times but never knew he was the one running the shop. It was enjoyable talking to him about his life and how he established the shop and it's traditions. First time at Jags Barber Shop and I couldn't be happier with my experience. Everyone is welcoming and really tie together the vibe of the place. One of the best things you can do when traveling - getting a fresh fade & a clean up cut! I was in the immediate area for a work trip, and wanted to get a quick trim before flying back home - since I was heading out via LAX. I stumbled upon this barber shop from getting a few items at the nearby Target, as well as getting some food to go from a café across the street - looked up reviews for Jag's, and it was too good to be true for me to not give them a try! I definitely wanted to come in as a walk-in & get situated for that much needed hair cut! Upon entering in on a Tuesday morning when they opened right at 9:00 a.m., the barbers/crew were getting ready & situated for the day - and instantly, felt the warm hospitality by asking if I had an appointment, as to which I replied that I'm simply a walk-in. They guaranteed that I'll have a barber ready in no time, and without further ado, the barber that acknowledged my presence was Tim, as we exchanged hellos & names - and simply told him that I wanted a clean up cut, with my current combover bald (low) fade with a beard trim & line up. From the regulars that came in while I was getting my cut, I can tell that this is a local spot for the immediate area - that has been a long time in the making, and I am so looking forward when I'm flying in/out of LAX & I find myself in need of a quick trim. All of the barbers were definitely doing a great job, getting their clients in/out - in addition to providing a friendly and personable atmosphere! On the other hand, I have to say the barbershop is a unique one. Simple vinyl floors, with some contemporary sleekness in design. The pieces of art on the brick walls really to bring a classic & old-fashioned feel at the same time, along with the mirrors that made the place spacious to the natural lighting from its windows. From the old-style cash register on the side that works to the neatly-displayed products on the glass counter, it all styled so appropriately. There's even a glass aquarium that will spark interest for the young ones to get them calm for their first haircut. Lol! In addition, the chairs themselves are even beautiful with the leather pads. Definitely felt a little royal when sitting on them, they're quite comfortable! Next, the bread and butter: the haircut. As a first time customer & a walk-in, Tim had gotten what I had explained at the beginning - fades were on point, the straight lines and cleanup around the sides with the straight edge were crispy clean, and the conversation was quite engaging. I never felt that it was a forced friendly converstaion, but it was nice to hear small talk from sports teams, to his suggestions of places to eat within this part of town that the barber shop is located at! I definitely felt at ease while getting a cut from Tim, and not only he took the time to get my haircut right to my satisfaction, he also made the point to get to know me and vice versa. Tim possessed a great fade technique, and scissor skills on top. Quality, and great hospitality would sum up this experience. And definitely reasonably-priced at $30, that itself is a bargain - especially since I'm used to Bay Area prices back home! Lol! If you're looking for a spot to get a carefully crafted & curated hair cut/beard trim/line up/hot towel straight razor shave in the LAX/Westchester area, then this is your spot! *pro tip: starting June 1st, 2022 - they will be raising their prices! I've been needing to get a haircut for a while and my normal barber has been out of town. My dad found this place and immediately after walking in I knew they were going to get me right. Gerardo got me in the chair and did exactly what I wanted. But, the best part was the atmosphere. The place was being swept the whole time I was there which was nice. They had multiple TVs to watch the NFL draft as well as signed jerseys on the wall. Jag's also had a mirror for you to look into during your haircut that stretches the length of the wall. Not happy about my haircut at all. I was assigned a barber named David who was actually a nice guy. I asked for a fade and to have the top cut a specific way (leaving more hair on the top). He acknowledged what I wanted and then proceeded to cut the top hair as thow he was on auto pilot totally ignoring what I said. The fade was nice but the top was nothing that I'd ask for.
