There just aren't a ton of choices for furniture on island, so…read moreFlexa is a solid option given what we have. 5-6 years ago, when my son was growing out of his converted crib/toddler-bed, we ordered a mid-height lofted twin bed (bed, legs, rails, stairs), a mattress, tent cover, and a bookcase. Everything is modular and designed to fit, so the bookcase is a perfect fit under his bed, which is about 4 feet off the floor - not too high, and creates a nice reading nook underneath. There are a lot of configuration options, so it can grow with him, whether we opt for a higher loft bed or put it on the floor at normal bed height, this is furniture he can have well into young-adulthood. And he WILL because ooowee, this was expensive! Definitely not Ikea, even though it gives off that vibe. It has so far held up very well, especially compared to the heavy wood dresser we bought as a changing table when he was a baby that is covered in dings and scratches. The Flexa stuff still looks new and we've moved once since then. It came apart and reassembled easy-peasy. There are several finishes available, twin and full-size options, and lots of pieces like slides, desks, cubbies, etc. It comes flat-packed, so I was able to get all the parts home in a SUV, and I was also able to put it together myself. I needed a second person to help get the bed up onto the taller legs, but otherwise, it was straightforward to put it together. I recently went back in to get a shelf for the bed for an alarm clock, and it just hooks onto the rails so it can literally go anywhere. Also picked up a second bookcase which happened to be on sale, so that made the price a little (tiny) bit better. I went in on a Monday and was able to pick up from the store that Saturday. Not sure whether beds are available as quickly - I don't remember our original order available that fast, but that was years ago. Small shop/showroom, but they have nearly everything represented in-store, and you can order the configuration and finish you want. A few parking spaces right in front.

We went to check out one furniture store and found a cute one but they said that it would take six months to get in. That was a little too long to wait considering she's already too big for her bed. So the next stop was Flexa. I found this place on Yelp and then I went to check out their website. They had some pretty interesting set up for their beds. It's modular furniture so you can just add on pieces as your child grows. Like you could add drawers under your bed or you could raise the bed and put a desk under. In the store they have a few models set up. My husband was drawn to the twin bed with three drawers under. He thought that would be great to store all her junk. More like hide her junk so it's off the floor, haha. It was nice and it came in gray or off white. The white they have there is kind of an unfinished paint job with streaks of blue in it. I didn't like that color. We decided on the gray one and placed the order. It will only take three months so that's not so bad. Overall, it's a small store, but the furniture they have in there is very well built. You know that it will last for years to come. The lady who serviced us was also very kind.

My son picked up a wireless keyboard and mouse for $20! Brand new in the box. We found them online for $65 minimum!! They also have a large number of bikes of all kinds and sizes, kids ride on toys, baby items, patio furniture, home decor, and small kitchen appliances. You name it, they probably have it. If not, just ask and the owner will try and get it for you. They get new merchandise in regularly so it's worth stopping in to see what's new. They have a great page on Facebook that shows a lot of what they have as well as new arrivals. Mom had seen an advertisement on television for Ashley HomeStore. She had been to other furniture stores where she couldn't find what she wanted. Mom also had a brochure from the Navy Exchange, showing an Ashley cabinet that she was interested in, but the NEX didn't have it and it was out of stock in California, too. The combination of shopping around; watching the television commercial; and having a photo in a brochure motivated my mom to ask me to take her to Ashley HomeStore! I'll do anything for my mom. She spends a lot of time in the living room where she wants to replace some tables with better looking cabinets with storage space. I want mom to be happy, so, I held in my opinion and drove her to Ashley HomeStore. There are five Ashley locations on Oahu and mom chose to go to the one in Honolulu, on Ward Avenue (not the one in Salt Lake area, the Beretania Street store, the Kapolei location, nor Aiea). There was a free parking lot on the corner of Queen Street and Ward Avenue. Inside the fabulously decorated showroom, we were greeted by Andrea. She was kind, efficient, and helpful! She listened to my mom and answered all of my sister's questions promptly. (I texted photos to my sister who lives with mom.) Even though Andrea just started working here three months ago, she was able to navigate the computer system, while knowing the inventory on the floor. She was knowledgeable about the discounts (currently 5 percent off because of the Anniversary Sale), delivery schedule, and fees ($149 including assembly). Andrea was very thoughtful and observant - she offered my mom a seat and moved furniture around for us to look at different angles. Excellent! The transaction flowed so smoothly. I was really impressed! Andrea changed my apprehensions about Ashley HomeStore into a Five-Star Review because of her professionalism, positive attitude, and friendly personality! Mom was thrilled because she will receive her new cabinets the day before Mother's Day! Perfect! Next time I need furniture, I won't hesitate to shop at Ashley HomeStore... I went to the Money Services counter, where I was told the fee to cash my check would be $8, which I was fine with. The associate tried twice to cash my check, but both attempts were denied. She told me she couldn't do the transaction and went off to lunch. I tried getting someone else to help me but he stated he was an operator not a manager. So her co-worker explained to me that it wasn't an issue with my identification. At first, I thought it might have been because the address on my passport wasn't current, so I provided another form of identification along with a piece of mail showing my name and mailing address. Unfortunately, that didn't make a difference. The associate explained that it may have been because it was my first time cashing a check of that amount at Walmart and suggested that I go directly to my bank instead. While I appreciated the associate's efforts in explaining it to me, the experience was still extremely disappointing. I had planned to use the money to buy groceries, but since I couldn't access my funds, I had to return everything I had picked out and leave empty-handed. It was a frustrating and discouraging end to an already long workday. I understand that policies and verification systems are in place for security, but I wish there had been a clearer explanation or an alternative solution to make it right with me. I was so disappointed, I just deposited the check through my own Chase mobile banking. A bank I haven't used in over a year and a half since I moved to Hawai'i. To make matters worse, the employees started discussing my situation in the corner in Tagalog as if I wasn't right there. I wish people didn't do that. Speak in another language thinking other people don't understand you. I speak Visaya, English, and Tagalog by the way. I was born in the Philippines and understand the language...
