I am a resident of Kailua and went into the bike shop on 2 occasions with some questions. No one acknowledged me or said anything for that matter. I looked around for a bit and left. I recently went back on Tuesday 1/2/24 as i was interested in purchasing an e-bike. Again no acknowledgement. Had to ask where the e-bikes were located, as he pointed towards the windows. All i ask is for a hello, welcome, ask if i need any help, and say I'll be with you in a bit. I really want to purchase an e-bike and being located in kailua makes it convenient. But i refuse to do business with a company that has poor customer service. I am debating on giving it one more try as they appear to have a good selection of e-bikes. Super helpful and convenient! I was visiting Oahu and took a bus to Kailua. The Bike Shop was right next to the bus stop. I walked in and asked if they do bike rentals. It was only $18 for 4 hours! This is for the bike rental service. On a random Monday morning off of work, I looked out of the window and decided that it would be a perfect day to bike around Kailua Town. Don't question it- that's just how my mind works. LOL. So I made a reservation online to rent out a bike that morning, was very pleased with the price (a little shy over $15 for four hours), and went on my way. Location was easy to find with ample parking, the guy at the counter got me set up with papers to sign my life away, and Don(?) set up the cruiser to my height. The rental came with a bike lock, a basket, and a helmet (which I didn't take). He gave me the run-down on how to operate the bike, let me do a test run around the parking lot before starting my time, and I was off on my way once comfortable. The cruiser worked with ease as I biked around Kailua Town through rocky paths and well-paved streets. The lock secured my bike well on the bike racks around town, and there were no issues throughout. After the four hours were up, I returned the bike, and it was a no-hassle process. Needless to say, I had a great experience and will be doing this again! So try it out and bike on! read more

First time dealing with a bike shop. Bought a new bike from a regular retail store, and it wasn't assembled well. Took it to The Bike Shop because I didn't even know what I was looking at. We were greeted warmly, but I didn't catch the gentleman's name that initially greeted us. He even walked us to the repair section that was just a few feet away to make sure we were greeted and helped there. Nick was the technician that assisted us. He quickly figured out what the issue was and made the necessary correction. I'm sure on the scale of issues, mine was pretty low, but he had outstanding customer service! He explained what was wrong and answered additional questions we had without making us feel like we were wasting his time. What a shocking experience I had at The Bike Shop Kailua today. If you want to be greeted with disrespect, aggressively by a Manager, who doesn't listen to you, and obviously has insecurities and a short man complex then come right on down. After riding 30miles from Town I really thought I would be greeted with warmth & did not expect to be talked over, rudely pushed around and threatened. Well there's no chance I will be coming back here. I'll be telling my cycling mates the same. Head to another bike shop in Kailua so you can be treated with Respect and Aloha. Ps Your response doesn't make one difference when I only mentioned how I was treated. So don't try and project to change the narrative. It doesn't matter if I come in with my shirt off, or pants down, when you don't listen you don't know why and there's NO EXCUSE for being overtalked, not listened to and pushed around. After the movers unpacked my beach cruiser from its trek across the continent, they fumbled the bike together and it made some terrible sounds. I furiously searched yelp, and thankfully there were two bike shops in walking distance from me, and this one looked like it was exactly my speed (no gears, just coasting). The staff were super friendly and gave my bike a tune up, free of charge! I then talked their ears off a bit about my broken front basket, and they recommended another that was sturdy enough to withstand my trips back and forth to the farmers market when I'm being basic. No pressure sales tactics work for me, so I said yes and they installed it on the spot! They offered us an active duty military discount which was sweet, and also gave us forms for registering our bikes with the county of honolulu, which I had no idea about. I was also told about which roads are bike friendly and which to steer clear of, and where to go if I'm out and about and get a flat. I was curious about the care and maintainence of a bike in Oahu's climate and ocean spray, and they walked me through that as well. The bike shop is a place to go if you're a bike owner or prospective owner and want to buy, upgrade, or tune your two wheeler with people who make you feel at ease and in capable hands. They also offer rentals for those who aren't ready to make a purchase comittment, and have a plethora of gear for the novice or expert in everyone. read more

I called ahead to ask some questions about the bike rental options and got lots of helpful information on the phone. I ended up completing my reservation online and my confirmation number was emailed to me. I was happy with this part of the process, but the pick-up was not quite as smooth. Even though I made a reservation for a bike and paid ahead of time, I still had to wait in the single line for almost 20 minutes with those who hadn't pre-reserved. There was one person working the registers and another employee grabbing the bikes, helmets, and locks. Once I got to the front of the line to sign my paperwork, another employee came into the shop from his lunch break, expressing surprise at the afternoon rush that they hadn't expected. I guess I just happened to arrive at an unfortunately long wait time. I got my bike, helmet, and lock and was on my way. The bike operated well for the model I chose, although I do recommend upgrading from the fixed-gear model if there are any hills in your riding future. (I wish they made it a bit clearer online for what the options are for women's bikes. While I know the frames are different, I don't know if there are also models that are also considered to be unisex, which could have had an impact on my bike choice.) Returning the bike was significantly easier. I parked the bike out front and checked in with the employees. They said I was good to go and I thanked them. I would be willing to try again for a bike rental in the future, although I might not bother with making the reservation online if it shows there are still lots of bikes available for the day. read more

I bought my bike here a little over a month ago. The staff was knowledgeable. I rode it home and it felt great. I was given a free repair. I was also instructed to return a month later to have it checked over as things adjust and may need to be readjusted. I will definitely be returning to have it looked over. The bike is light weight yet the tire is wider than a rode so the tread is better for more terrains. It's a hybrid that I got. read more

They need to hire more knowledgeable workers, or train the ones they have well. I asked them to change my tire. They said they don't have time. There were 4 people in the back, just standing around chatting! Then I returned to get a broken spoke fixed. They said it would take three weeks. So I asked them to measure the spoke and give me one that I would use to replace myself. When I came home and didn't fit, it was too long. They measured the wrong side! So back to the store again. I said it was too long, so they just pull down one size down. It was still too long. Instead of measuring, they just kept guessing. They need more knowledgeable workers!!! read more

My brother passed away and left me a P.O.S. MTB that needed a lot of love. I took it into the shop for a tune-up, but after they dove into it, was called and told a tune-up wouldn't do anything since the cables were all shot. They replaced the cables, but when I picked up the bike, the rear brake broke, which was no fault of theirs. The mechanic on staff offered to take a look at it free of charge if I could leave the bike until the next day. He then called me and told me the small bearings were wasted, and that he had replaced them and rebuilt the rear brake, free of charge. It meant a lot to me that they were able to help me get this bike up and running. I've purchased two new bikes from them already but this one is really special. I connect with my brother when I'm on it and am really grateful they went out of there way to help me out. That's one way to make a loyal customer! Mahalo for the service! read more

Took bike to have brake upgrade from Guide TL to Code RSC. Only reason I didnt do myself is because I didnt have the tools and had not done it before. I clearly stated that I wanted brakes to be super touchy, like I want to fly over handlebars if I hit front brake too hard. When the bike was dropped off, the rear brake line was still attached to caliper. I also explained that I wanted all parts from old brake set as those were being sold to someone else. When they called me, they asked if I wanted to have the front brake cable shortened. It was wrapped around the fork by me, as it the cable was too long and I figured that it would be fine. They mentioned that it could snag on branches, etc, and I figured may as well. They then notified me that brake fluid had been spilled on the pads. WTF? When I picked up bike, the brakes were not touchy, in fact, the 2 piston Guide TL's performed just as well. They charged me for running a new rear brake cable, and front brakes when fully engaged only slowed me down. If there really was brake fluid on the pads then they should just be replaced, but moreso that should have been spoken during the phone call. Most 2 piston brakes will throw me over handlebars, so WTF. When i went to see the Guide TL brakes, the buyer complained that he would need to purchase new cables because they were cut from the caliper side, not from the brake lever side. Additionally, one of the brake levers is stuck. Overall, I felt like it was a waste of money and will not be going back for any kinds of repairs, nor will I be recommending this bike shop moving forward. Will likely just invest in some more tools. For anyone interested, personally, i think the best bike mechanics seem to work at McCulley in Honolulu. read more

Cordell helped me and was so wonderful. He was friendly, helped me find a basket that would work on my bike and installed everything for me. I guess since the last time I have been at the shop they added a cash register in the front, but you used to pay at the register in the back where the service center is. Called and asked for their hours. Also asked if I needed an appointment to have my rear derailleur adjusted and if I would have to leave it. They told me the store hours and said just bring the bike by it should take fifteen to twenty minutes. Go down to the store at 12:30 pm and they are closed since they are short on staff. Sign said they will be back at 1:45 pm, even though the neon "open" sign was illuminated. Return at 2:00 pm and they tell me I have to leave the bike because they probably won't get to it today. I looked around and didn't notice anyone working on bikes. They must have been on an extended lunch break. What upsets me is I have been going to this store for over ten years and own three specialized brand bikes. The staff ha changed so I called first so that I wouldn't waist time and so I can plan my training if I would need to leave my bike. want to make appointment a month in advance to service bike. "fixed" my 3 speed bike which actually made shifting worse! Brought it back and better but still not right. I watched a YouTube video and fixed it myself in 5 minutes! Then if you leave a day after the appointment it there's a charge seem to not have a clue about the FELT brand cruiser that THEY sold until recently. Can't help with a schwinn kickstand that is similar to the kickstands on the Electra's that they sell! Just arrogant yet brainless. It's like they don't want customers. Sadly since Eki went out of business after 100+ years we no longer have ANY decent bike shop on the island! read more

This shop is wonderful. I moved back to HI from WA state about 8 months ago, and I've been here twice now. First time to tune up my bike that had been shipped from the mainland, 2nd to repair a flat tire. They've been nothing but courteous, efficient, informative, and fast. Not to mention the prices I pay to get normal repairs and upkeep done, compared to shops in WA state, are a little less expensive. read more

I'm no bike expert, but my back wheel popped and got disconnected from the metal framework, so I took it to The Bike Shop. Getting an appointment was relatively easy, and my bike was fixed within a week. Plus, it wasn't too pricy of a repair (around $20). My father's bike needed a tune-up as well - the left side brake handle did not work and the brakes would always squeak obnoxiously. He had to wait a while for his appointment because apparently they were fully booked for close to 3 weeks. His bike came back with working breaks, but still squeaked loudly, which is unfortunate. The workers there were kind and helpful. Again, not a pricy repair (his was closer to $30), albeit the bike issues were not very serious to begin with. read more
