If I could leave -5 stars, I would. I have spoken to multiple eye doctors since having my PRK surgery with Dr. Vale and have been told that if you are directed towards monovision that you should be sent home with glasses that you wear for a minimum of a week to check that your eyes can adjust to it. He put a pair of goggles on me for less than two minutes in his office and said oh this is what you need. He went so far as to tell me it was the only type of eye surgery he could perform on me. I felt very pushed into the monovision surgery and have not been the same since. I have had nothing but problems since having the surgery over two years ago. After the surgery, he kept telling me "oh you need to keep your eyes moist because you have dry eyes" so he prescribed all kinds of drops and then told me that I had to take a ton of different vitamins. The vitamins were literally making me sick to my stomach, and I had to discontinue them. FYI I never had dry eyes in my life until the surgery. He also told me I would be fine within six days of my surgery because I was going out of the country on a trip three weeks after the surgery. I was still having problems seeing well into six months after my surgery. So needless to say most of my trip in Europe, I could barely see what I was looking at. Every time that I went in for an appointment, post surgery, I stressed that I was having nothing but problems with my eyesight and he would argue and tell me that I was seeing fine. I have not seen fine since the surgery was done over two years ago. In addition, I now have to wear glasses at night to drive because I cannot see at night. This was not an issue before the surgery. My eye for near vision is still blurry when looking at things close up. My distance eye can only maybe see 12 feet in front of me and everything beyond that is blurry. I write for a living and Coach sports. So needless to say, this is hindered me quite a bit in my career. I have already scheduled a consult with another doctor and they have told me I will likely have to have everything reversed. So now I have to pay another $4000 out-of-pocket to get my eyes fixed correctly. I would not suggest going to this doctor. He will likely come on here and argue with my review. However, since going to him, I have met six additional people who had the same surgery and have the same exact issues that I'm having. So this is not a one off issue. It really stinks that I now have to pay all this money out again to get my eyes corrected. read more

If you're considering LASIK, avoid Dr. Steven Vale. I went to him in 2018, and he essentially guaranteed I'd be seeing clearly within a week. I couldn't even drive after two months. He blamed my slow recovery on things like my weight, lack of fiber, or my husband smoking outside--everything was somehow my fault. His dismissive, arrogant attitude gave me such bad PTSD I'd have panic attacks just driving to his office. Years later, I finally got the courage to go in for a touch-up, only to be told my $1,200 extended care contract was void because I hadn't seen an eye doctor every year--even though this was around 2020, when no one was going anywhere. At the appointment, he talked over me, belittled me, and said my stress wasn't his problem. He even told me I should've sought mental health help if the surgery affected me that much. To make matters worse, my new optometrist said Dr. Vale had no business doing LASIK on my eyes given how bad they were. Now I have to get another surgery just to fix his mistakes. Dr. Vale is narcissistic and demeaning. I've never been so disrespected by a doctor in my life. read more

So glad I finally got lasik! Best decision ever. So much less expensive than I thought it would be, had 20-15 vision (better than perfect!) by the very next day. Amazing to be able to hop in the car or on a horse and SEE where I'm going without fumbling for foggy glasses! Finally doing all the things others take for granted like watching my kids play soccer and being able to see their faces and teammates numbers from across the field, or read the menu board at restaurants. I've been recommending Acuity and Dr Vale to all my friends. Ditch those glasses or contacts for good! read more

I had a wonderful experience with Dr. Vale and his staff. I have worn contact lenses since 12 years old and only recently my eyes had become contact lens intolerant and glasses are not an option. Dr. Vale diagnosed an eyelid gland malfunction and rosacea on the initial visit. I always wondered what the white bumps were on my eyelids and why my face was always red, I just figured it was my Irish heritage. Surgery went perfectly and now I have 20/15 vision no halos or glares. I had a -6.50 prescription before. My eyelids look great and I have a prescription topical ointment for my rosacea. Dr. Vale is a walking encyclopedia and I learn something from him every time I see him. Highly recommend. Worth every penny. read more

Mary provided a helpful counseling session prior to my pre-operative visit. However, I felt rushed through with Dr. Vale and despite my inquiry regarding a specific procedure, it seemed to me I was being pushed towards a conventional monovision treatment - which I did not want. Worst of all, I had an agreement in writing that if the monovision trial (which only occurred for a few minutes in the office) was disagreeable to me that I would be refunded the $400 exam fee in full. However, when I did decide to forgo the surgery I was told they would not honor the refund. This has forced me to initiate a chargeback action with my bank. Not good business practices and Acuity seems more interested in bullying patients into procedures and burning bridges than doing the right thing. read more

I have Epi-Lasik and Dr Vale was always in a hurry. I had vision issue immediately after the procedure and he kept telling me that it will resolve it self. He told me I need to put more drops in my eyes. The next appointment he told me I was putting in too many drops. I had ghost images shortly after the procedure. This went on for about 11 months. He then told me he would do a complete eye exam at the one year mark. Oh but he wanted to charge me more money for that exam. I gave him to much money for the results I had, I was not going to give him any more. Still have ghost images. I went to my family doctor, and he told me my right eye has no focal point. needless to say my vision suck still as a result of going to him. I will be looking for a more qualified doctor to try and fix my vision issues. I would never recommend him. I would be very careful. I originally wanted to do one eye at a time and he told me that they don't do that. If i wanted to it would be more costly. I should have run then a there. read more

Several years ago I selected to have PRK done on both eyes. The process was $4,000. It took a year of follow ups to have Doctor Vale say " I didn't take enough of the astigmatism". One eye is perfectly fine. The other eye, I'm unable to see two feet in front of me. So, you'd think he'd correct what he did not do right. I was told that because I didn't select to have "insurance", I'm required to pay another $1,400 dollars to have the error fixed. I recently called and asked what they would do about the problem and nobody phoned back. Thank god Vale isn't my auto mechanic. Total rip off knowing he didn't do it right the first time but I can spend more money for him to try again?! It's a shame that this business gets away with this. read more

I went almost a year ago for Epi-Lasik, my vision is perfect but I now have extreme dry eye. I knew this could happen. He kept telling me to drink more water and not have air blown in my face because it causes my eyes to dry out more. I might have to get plugs inserted but it can't be helped it's a side effect. I am giving one star because Dr. Vale was always in a rush and seemed to just want you to do whatever surgery just to take your money. Also the redheaded secretary just looked like she didn't want to be there and not very helpful. read more

Original consultation had me for PRK procedure. I highly recommend this over the LASIK flap. More thorough healing even though it's a little longer recovery. But Dr Vale is awesome. Everything about the procedure went well as well as the recovery. It's been a month and a half since my procedure and my right eye is perfect. Left eye just has a little more clearing up to do. It's so nice to not wear glasses. Pricing is definitely cheaper than other places. It isn't cheap if you look at the overall cost, but when you buy glasses and contacts every year or so it easily justifies the price. read more

I went to Acuity to have PRK LASIK done in March 2015. The process was really easy from beginning to end. The staff at Acuity was really friendly and had no problem answering any and all of my questions. I had read different reviews of PRK and was a little worried about the recovery process but I followed all of the steps that Dr. Vale laid out for me and after just a few days of sensitivity to light and some dryness, both things I expected, my eyes felt great and my vision was 20/20 before I had even fully healed. We were given the review of side effects that can be perminate after the post operation exam. 5 places it states your vision may never be the same as it is before surgery. If you are over 40 your chances are much higher of having problems and I am 61. So I called and said I cannot take the chance with my vision because of my work. I read blueprints and drive heavy equipment. I also work after 4pm so sometimes it is in the dark. One of the side effects is you may never be able to drive in the dark with PRK and it can be permanent. The other thing it states is you may have blurred vision permanently that glasses cannot fix. Also you will not be able to drive in the dark again.... The doctor said it will happen for a month or two but nothing about it could be permanent. Also, Before the appointment no one said you need to have sun glasses with you for the pre operational visit. I could not drive home my vision was so blurry the rest of the day.... I absolutely could not take the risk with permanently having vision problems. I called and told the office manager and she was very rude. She said all surgery has risk and we will go over that the day of surgery. A little to late then. I read the pamphlet that they gave me and it says the $400 goes towards surgery we paid at the pre OP exam. If you do not have surgery, no where did it say you do not get it back.... We thought maybe we could use it towards glasses or contacts but the office manager was so rude and said because you decide not to have surgery that is not our problem. Had we known all the side effects, (like you may loss your best vision permanently) before we paid the $400 ... once again we would not have had the pre op visit to begin with.
