Surgeons and PTs should be advising that, but many surgeons don't know as much about PT as they should and business models discourage some PTs from referring potential patients elsewhere. Despite issues with overbooking (perhaps more of an issue in-season) and poor transition when a therapist goes on leave, I think PTI is probably a good place for lower extremities rehab, but you'll probably be better served elsewhere if you have elbow, wrist, or hand injuries.
