At the southern end of the park is the J.C. Nichol's Memorial Fountain. Folks were walking, running, and biking on the paved trail around and through the park. I didn't expect to find this beautiful fountain here, but it was a beautiful surprise. The walkways of the park put you less than a block away from Country Club Plaza, but I was well within walking distance of the Kemper Contemporary Museum of Art and Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art. Great green space.

Located at the confluence of Line Creek into the mighty Missouri River just downstream from the Argosy Casino. This riverfront park has lots to offer; multiple pickleball courts, picnic shelters, lots of paved walking/biking paths, kids playground equipment, large public art installations and a beautiful courtyard to watch the longest river in the nation snake it's wide muddy water past your gaze. There are not a lot of places in the metro that offer such a great up close vista of our most under-utilized and unappreciated natural wonder. I see myself returning for pre-work lunches or coffee since I work just a mile away. Good job city of Riverside!

As a kid, we got a go-kart and this was the only place to legally (?) take that sucker out, so we had fun riding all around here causing mischief. Since then, it's always had a bit of an odd vibe.. maybe that's more specific to the neighborhood down the hill from it. There used to be this old house that was essentially boarded up and had monkey sculptures all around it. As if that wasn't enough, anyone who slowed down to look at it would have her come out and yell.. horror movie vibes. We also drove down that way one time but the bridge was out, and some drunk people playing in the streets shouted at us and threatened us if we didn't get out. So you can see where I'm not exactly feeling the area here. The park is what it is, a green space that isn't as well kept as other parks in the area, and has the dull white noise of cars whizzing by on I-35 in the background. It's fine for rec league softball and probably great for frisbee golf, but not a park I'd saddle up to with the family for a picnic.

So much room to play!…read more Happy Rock is a good-sized, family-friendly park. I go to take advantage of their (4) tennis courts which are rarely full. There is a 1.3 mile walking trail that is well-kept. Bicycles are not allowed on the trail though. Additional amenities include restrooms and portable potties, small basketball court, soccer fields, playgrounds, picnic tables...not much more you need to enjoy a day at the park!

After running amok with all the other children of KC indoors and having lunch, the rain had let up and we thought it might be good to get some more energy out before heading home. My cousin recommended we stop by this park, which she remembered was close by. To be fair, I had pretty low expectations but I was so pleasantly surprised by this cool spot. First of all, it's not a generic park at all. You've got a giant sea monster made out of concrete and play structure that is made have the look and feel of a pirate ship - it's so fun for pretend play, and such a unique concept for a public park. My kiddo LOVED the sea monster and got such a kick out of it. Aside from that the park is a really good size and you've got a pretty standard playset next to the pirate ship, some swings, and loads of things to climb on, including some play rocks, which I think is a nice touch and sort of compliments the unique nature of this park. 4/5 stars simply because there is some room for improvement - mostly in the restroom area, as they did not look clean/safe, so we used the good ole travel potty for our toddler and made our way home after playing. Overall if you're in the area this is a really fun park for kids and it's worth exploring!
