He recommended a surgical procedure and said he could do it next week. I tried to schedule with his staff. No luck. No openings. Quite adamant about they couldn't help me. I'd say lack of communication between doctor and surgical coordinator. Poor professional attitude. Im traveling to oregon to have it done. When I had the accident I went to SLO emergency rm. They put me in an ambulance and shipped me to Fresno community medical center. Its been 4 weeks and still no resolution. Will probably loose sight in this eye. I wouldn't recommend California Retinal Consultants to anyone.

My second visit was rescheduled the day prior, my third appointment I showed up 10 minutes early to an empty office, no one called me to reschedule or anything. Finally today I arrived at 12:50 for a 1PM appointment and sat in my car waiting to go in and my phone rang... "The doctor is late from surgery and so can you come in at 4?" Really? I am here in the parking lot..."do you want to reschedule?" NO... just show up when you say you will be there. If I ran my business like this I would be out of business! They are terrible for customer service... when I finally see the Dr I will see if they are actually ok physicians. I am waiting again 5 folks in front of me after they asked me to go home and come back.... SUCK!

I made my decision to have LASIK at Sani eye Center because the doctors are the very best in the business, using the most modern technology in bladeless LASIK. The exam was very thorough and I felt as though they educated me in the process as we went through each part, answering my questions patiently and thoroughly. Dr. Rasheed is honest and direct. He gave me realistic expectations. (No x-Ray vision? Darn!!) Dr. Rasheed will not perform LASIK on a patient who is not a good candidate just to make a buck. I, for one appreciate his direct approach to this very critical procedure. It's unfortunate to see that some do not appreciate that type of honesty. I wouldn't want anyone to perform LASIK on my eyes, potentially rendering me blind just because I think I should have it. If you're not a good candidate, it's understandable to be bummed out, but Dr. Rasheed and Dr. Sani are the experts, folks. I respect the integrity displayed by Dr. Rasheed and the entire team at Sani Eye Center. If you're looking into LASIK do your research and come to your own conclusion based on facts, rather than reading the bitter, vindictive statements of someone who may not have been a good candidate. I recommend going to Dr. Sani Eye Center to anyone who asks about my LASIK experience. I would do it all over again if I needed to!!

They said "his appt was yesterday," wherein I replied "no, look at this email, I wasn't available yesterday," and receptionist took no responsibility. It was definitely Wed not Tues. She wouldn't look at my emails. She said "oh, she shouldn't have done that"/scheduled you? My son didn't feel heard at the appt with the Dr. He had a concussion and was sent for that, not a normal eye exam. I was but off by him too in our conversations. Disregarded. Now he is getting glasses, don't think that is the correct route? My appt was suppossed to be immediately after his (for his 9am we arrived at 850 and he was seen at 920/ a student missing school). The first thing I asked was if the dr was on time. Then for my appt, it was supposed to be back to back, mine was at 10, we were there still, and at 10, she stated there were THREE people ahead of me, so an hour wait. Didn't mention they stated they "squeezed Max in today," so therefore the wait, because of their schedule mishap. Felt disrespected and won't go back. We just left, I had to get my kid back in school. Going elsewhere.

You are given a very detailed exam and he spends the time to explain all the options, including wearing a set of contacts around the office and outside so you get a feel for the differences. Randy, the technician, administered the exams and was very friendly and professional. I am considering changing doctors and having my regular exams here because Randy really knew his stuff. The follow up by the office staff in Venture was wonderful. Sandy called me twice to set up the prescriptions, which was very surprising. I don't know if I can afford to do the procedure this year but it is definitely something I plan on doing in the near future and when I am ready, there is no doubt I will have Dr. Shapiro as my doctor!!!

10 stars!! 15 on a scale of 5!! Dr. Shapiro is the greatest. I recommend him without reservation…read moreand with the greatest confidence in him as a laser eye surgeon, which is all he does -- not cataracts, just 100 percent laser eye surgery. In short, I was looking for a doc who was a technical expert; was going to be my eye doctor from beginning to end -- from the initial intake or "sell" appointment, to surgery and through the follow-up; and who would be accessible and accountable to me -- if I had a concern in the middle of the night, I wanted to be able to reach him or her. What I didn't realize is that I also wanted someone who had the latest laser -- what was then the third iteration of laser - and who was a very patient person. I got all of that as well as a really nice and personable human, and someone who treats his staff well enough that the "newcomer" has been there for 15+ years. The system that Dr. Shapiro has maps the inside of the eyeball. This iteration of laser locks onto the landmarks in the eye mapping; if the human or technology were to move or have any kind of surge, the laser would know that and immediately stop, eliminating all kinds of human error. I called his office one time to ask a question. He was in the office and overheard his assistant talking to me. More proactive than any doctor I've ever had, Dr. Shapiro got on the phone, asked me what was going on, and gave me detailed information. I was soooo impressed that not only could I get a hold of him if I'd tried calling him, but I actually got him when I hadn't even tried. That is HUGE to me. Where he totally amazed me was in his patience with me on the day of surgery. There is a choice between what I guess I would call the "prescription" of the surgery, or how you want him to "tune" your eyes. The choice is between seeing extremely well at one distance, like close-up for surgery; or to have blended vision, such as mid- and longer-distance, so you can see someone's face across a table and also see street signs on the freeway. To do the blended vision, the doc literally "sets" one eye at one distance and the other eye at the other distance and the patient's brain melds the two distances together. On my first visit to his office, his team gave me contacts that represented blended vision. All things being equal, I would have picked that option, but some people's brains don't integrate the two distances well. I have a history of motion sickness, and I didn't think I'd tolerate blended vision, so I picked the single distance vision. But on the day of my surgery, he told me that he thought I would tolerate the blended vision. He set me up with contacts again and told me to take my time, go outside, and see what I thought. Literally, he had his surgical team wait for me for at least a half hour while I walked around. I changed my mind and decided to try the blended vision. It worked, and two years post surgery, I haven't had a single issue with decision or with motion sickness, and am so glad I have the blended vision. I am extremely grateful to him for his excellence and his patience! The only downside is slight: When I did my original search for a laser eye doc, I looked for someone near San Luis Obispo. Dr. Shapiro's laser office is in Ventura, and he has satellite offices to do the initial meeting, and pre- and post-op appointments in several cities: Santa Barbara, SLO, etc. I did all of the pre- and post-op appointments in the SLO office, but I had to go to Ventura for the surgery. Not a huge deal, since I'd have taken the day for the surgery, but it wasn't originally what I was hoping for. Overall, I am very happy with my eyesight and Dr. Shapiro. My husband has decided it might be time for this surgery, too. If he decides to do it, we'll be going back to Dr. Shapiro.
