Started with the spicy katenga and sambussa as appetizers. Then came the main course which was a hearty portion of yum with a variety of meat and vegetable dishes served on top of the Injera. Lovely place in Morningside Heights. The food was amazing. We had both the vegetarian combo and beef combo. Everything was perfectly spiced and seasoned. It is hard to find affordable Ethiopian food in NYC. So, will walking in Washington Heights, we notice this restaurant we needed to try. Food: 5/5 I attempted to be healthy and get the vegetarian platter. My partner humored me along as long as he could have something with meat on the side. It was great, either way! Feeding two of us under $80 is major accomplishment! Service: 5/5 Everyone was super nice and patient! My partner and I worked had many questions since I have food restrictions, but they were very understanding! It was a great vibe. All on all, I would definitely go back for some good Ethiopian food. Ethiopian restaurant in my neighborhood?!?! You bet I'm going! (Sadly, I have moved away and this is no longer an easy local place to eat, but very glad I was able to get out and try it.) My visit was in late September, while they were just getting started. We ordered 2 meat dishes and a veggie combo platter. Portions of the veggies were ample, but the meat portions seemed on the smaller side. My husband (who admittedly was quite hungry) almost finished off both meat entrees. The flavors were delicious (but a little bit muted), and I enjoyed the variety of flavors and textures of every dish we had. The service was friendly and prompt. We did ask for our foods on separate platters, so the meat and veggies would be separate, and it arrived on the same platter. What a lovely affordable Ethiopian spot in Washington heights! I went as soon as it opened on a Sunday afternoon with a friend, and the staff were immediately so kind and attentive. We ordered a vegetarian combo to split, and that (combined with the endless injera) was enough for a lunch. The injera was top tier, nice and sour and fermenty, and all the dishes were well spiced. Ordered samusas + meat combo and lamb platters to share btwn 3 people, which left us all full. Everything comes with injera and they bring out more if you run out. All of it was super delicious and meat was very tender. We also ordered a tiramisu to share at the end which is made in-house - also pretty fire. This is a most welcome addition to the Heights. Split a few dishes with a friend. The awaze tibs and doro wat were both very flavorful. The complexity of the berbere really shines with the chicken. The vegetarian dishes were also on point. We had kik alicha wot, misir wot and shiro wot - all tasty. They are also not stingy with the injera. Very friendly people, and I look forward to returning. I came to Addey Ababa having never tried Ethiopian food before but I heard great things and decided to give it a try. The restaurant itself is very clean, well lit, and has a cozy vibe. The woman at the front was so nice and explained the menu and made recommendations. I went with the meat combo and got it to go. While I was waiting the waitress offered me a glass of water even though I had a to go order which I thought was really sweet. Most importantly, the food was so delicious! Like nothing I've ever had before but all the flavors came together very well. The tangy, slightly tart injera mixed with the spices in the meat and the lentils were amazing. I don't usually leave reviews but this place hit the mark with everything, and I think it's important with the price of food these days to show support for restaurants that have great service and great food which is becoming a rarity these days! read more

Pretty tasty. I think the veggie sampler is better than the other sampler with meat dishes. And I'm a total carnivore. You won't feel like you skimped here! It's the kind of food I can eat a lot of and enjoy it and not feel like I've overeaten. You know how it feels awful after a plate of chicken wings? This is a great place to indulge and I never feel sorry. to be sure, I've had great Ethiopian food in Los Angeles and DC and on 145th and in Montclair. The food here is not as flashy and restaurant-ey and is less oily. the food tastes more like healthy homemade, for long life, rather than "going out and pigging out." I love getting takeout here. Food is pretty good but not the best I've had. I appreciate the selections that they offer. But the menu is a bit rigid as to what you can get vs paying through the nose to get it. It would be nice if I could choose the veg that goes with the meat combo instead of getting what they choose to go with it. Really the ability to mix and match as I choose would be great.
