Once it was time for my appointment, I was taken aside to discuss service needs. Once were in session, the sound of the ocean was played. I elected to have the Swedish Massage by Denise. A warmed towel, rod and heated lavender scented pillow were all incorporated. My neck wasn't feeling the massage headrest long term. So, I moved myself onto the bed completely. Do what you gotta do. The massage was helpful for releasing some knots around my shoulders and overall circulation. I also added the under eye patch treatment. The rooms are a curtain away from each other. So, note that once back near and/or in your room that the staff communicates in hushed whispers. I wasn't quite sure when the appointment was to start and finish. I feel like I blinked and it over. I picked the Tai/Combo massage (from the website: techniques from Thai, Swedish, deep tissue and other styles). I was in heaven. The woman doing the massage rubbed on me, and was up on the table with me a couple of times to stretch and move my body around. It was all wonderful. My hour was up and I felt like jelly. They told me THEIR thai massage had oil and I was to remove my clothes but keep my underwear on. I told them I just wanted a traditional Thai Massage. I 1,000% know it is illegal to uncover someone's glutes fully, but that didn't stop my therapist from pulling not only the blanket down to my thighs, but also pulling my underwear (a thong which already exposed the sides of my glutes) down to my thighs, fully exposing my entire butt. Let me be clear, this is absolutely illegal and unprofessional, there is a law specifically stating you cannot do this. EVER. - not to mention I am a female and my therapist was a male. It was clear this therapist wasn't trained in hot stones (something else I'm trained in), and the massage itself was abysmal. If they were in massage school and this was their final, they would not pass. And they shouldn't have. Afterwards I again asked the front desk about ACTUAL Thai Massage and if they dont have thai massage where else does - they said that there's one woman on staff who provides it (who obviously wasn't available when I came in). I don't know why she didn't just tell me this to begin with instead of take my money and my peace of mind. I left here a thoroughly unsatisfied customer. If the (NOT Thai) Massage had been good, I wouldn't have been so upset over her deception. But to lie to me, and then get something so sub par? I would NEVER do this to a client. I hung up the phone but before being able to call back an issue came up that I had to tend to. While I am tending to that issue, my cell phone rings. I see that it is the number for the Pamper Zone and I pick up the phone. An irate person on the other line says "Did you just call here?" I said, " Yes, I did but there was not any sound so I decided to call back later." The person said, "Yes, I was there saying Hello, hello, but you never said anything." I said, "Well, I'm sorry, I didn't hear anything but I assume that we just had a bad connection." The person said (again with much attitude), "Well, ma'am, I can only tell you what I know happened. Did you need something?" At this point, considering the company's method of interacting with customers and assuming that it is in my best interest NOT to use this facility, I reply, "Um, actually, no. Thank you." And I hung up. Shortly thereafter, I received another phone call from the Pamper Zone, and I allowed the call to go to voicemail. The voicemail that was left said "Ma'am, I would appreciate it if you don't call here anymore harassing us. This is a business and I will report you to the police department!" Since I am now thinking that this is complete insanity and surely just a rogue employee, I thought that if it was my business, I would want to know. So, I called back a few hours later, did not get anyone but left a voicemail message descibing the scenario and advising the owner or manager to look into it because they are likely losing other customers due to this woman. About an hour later, I received a long rambling voicemail from someone purporting to be the owner. I have transcribed it for your pleasure and edification. "I am the owner of this establishment. My name is Michelle Laker(sp). And I just got your message and I am sorry about what happened but it would probably be better if you did get a refund for your money or give those y'know coupons to someone else because from the voicemail that I heard and also from the conversation that was recorded. Um...we listened to both the incoming conversation that you made and we listed to our receptionist conversation as well, we have just delineated that it would probably be better if you did get a refund. And we apologize if we have done anything to offend youbut from what we've heard it was a mutual set of abuses. And so the customer's always right y'know but we don't like our employees abused either. We just really would...we will talk to Living Social about this matter and we haven't had any other complaints because y'know we have been in business for 8 years. My first concern was when I called to schedule my Groupon appointment. The phone was not answered professionally. When I asked who I was speaking with, the response was, "Well, who are you trying to call?" This immediately made me question whether I wanted to keep the appointment. She later apologized and explained that someone had been "playing on her phone," which I appreciated. During that conversation, I was told a code would be sent for building access. It was never sent, and I had to follow up multiple times. I didn't receive the code until mid-morning Saturday, the day of our appointment. We arrived at 3:00 p.m. for our couples massage, but no one was there. We stood in the hallway waiting for her and her partner to arrive. Once inside, we were asked to sit on the sofa while the room was prepared. We were not offered water, a mimosa, or any refreshment. When shown to the massage room, we were instructed to undress and get on the tables. No robes were offered. Before the massage, I explained that I work at a desk and sit most of the day, so I specifically wanted my back and shoulders addressed. I also explained that my partner is a truck driver and that I was concerned about the tension in his back. Although we booked Swedish massage, we communicated that we wanted most of the time focused on our backs. I even offered to pay the additional $25 per person for deep tissue. Unfortunately, during my massage, the therapist could clearly feel the knots and tension in my back but essentially passed over them rather than working them out. I left feeling that the areas I specifically identified were not adequately addressed. My partner was happy with his massage, although it was his first and he had no basis for comparison. His only concern was the therapist's breath when speaking closely to him, which should be considered when working in such close proximity to clients. We did tip well because we appreciate people's time and effort. However, overall, I felt my money could have been better spent. I would have rather paid a little more for the polished experience I expected, which I now intend to visit the other therapist recommended at the Omni to address the tension that wasn't relieved. I'm sharing this review in hopes the owner will take the feedback constructively. Clients are paying for an experience--not just a massage. Professional communication, preparation, hospitality, cleanliness, comfort, and attention to detail all matter. Unfortunately, I would not return to or recommend Honeybee Massage & Wellness. I sincerely hope they use this feedback as an opportunity to improve and "up their game.
