Service is just ok but verify your order before the waiter leaves to enter, because what you order vs what you receive may differ. Ambiance is like a big German food hall. It's fine, accept it. Food is basically cafeteria food with a waiter taking your order. The table beside me ordered fish that was definitely fermented, but he ate it, because I don't think he knows what ferment tastes like. If I could have moved I would have, instead just tried to turn away. Overall, take your chances somewhere else, even if that doesn't work out well, you are not missing anything here. read more

i'm reviewing from their temporary location at d. henrique while they renovate their original location until ~march or so. our vegetable soup appetizer didn't have much flavor. our grilled squid came out looking good but there was a lingering bitter burnt taste throughout the whole thing so i couldn't enjoy it. grilled sardines were good though. service took a while and the squid was not enjoyable. not sure if it's because theyre renovating but i had higher hopes. read more

Went here our first night in Lagos as it came recommended. Huge place right on the main drag and directly across from the Marina. Had a large menu with good prices and a lot of fresh fish. A lot of the fish is sold by the kilo but they will bring over a piece and weigh it for you before you order if you ask. My wife had 200 grams of prawns and vegetables and I had the pork ribs (was a little burned out on seafood). Food came quickly and so did the house wine. Presentation as so-so but everything tasted good. The pork ribs had a good flavor but they were tough and very strange bite sizes (see picture). We liked the shrimp, even though they were smaller than we expected. Vegetables were well cooked but not particularly attractive. House wine was very good and very cheap. The whole meal cost us less than $40 euros. This place could probably seat at least 200 people and looks a bit like a German beer hall. read more

I was super excited to try this place since it was highly recommended from different sources. We just got off our boat cruise and was near by the marina. I decided to get the swordfish while my friend got the seabass. It was a little pricey compared to other restaurants in the area. Each fish comes out with a few potatoes and that's it. My swordfish came out in filets and the first one was decent buttery flavor but the other filet was overcooked. I would think if this place specializes in seafood they would cook fish correctly. My friends seabass was pretty good. So maybe it's what I ordered. Overall I was expecting more with the food then what we got. read more

This is called the local ppl's canteen. Highly recommended by our agent. My huge sea bass was a bit on oily side BUT still extremely flavorful! Grilled sardines were exceptionally fresh. What a DEAL this place is. I had the cod prepared Algarve style- so cod, topped with delicious onions and olives with sauce and small delicious whole potatoes on the side. Amazing! Cod was perfect- but so were the potatoes. It was huge- and delicious. My daughter had pork belly with fries- also fabulous, and our friends had shish kabob which stole the show! I had some envy about those shish, even though my cod was perfect. They were enormous and served dramatically on a custom hanger in front of each diner who was having them. Looked amazing- and they said the meat was perfectly done. The prices were as amazing as the food. My cod was like 9 euros. Pork belly was 8 and the shish were 16, if I remember right. Go here. Adega de Marina was one of my favorite restaurants in Lagos. The restaurant itself is a large hall that can seat hundreds of people. There is usually a wait around lunch and dinner, but the wait itself is usually only 15 minutes or so during peak hours. I always get the sea bass when I go. The fish is fresh and salted perfectly and it is cooked to order. The fish is crispy on the outside and the meat is juicy and tender. The piri piri chicken is my second favorite dish and it is nicely grilled so when you bite into it, it is juicy with a hint of spiciness. The grilled pork is decent as well. The pork belly is nice and crispy with the right amount of fat, but can be a bit on the salty side. The fries are surprisingly good; they remind me of McDonalds and we ended eating a lot more than we expected to. This restaurant is delicious, filling, and affordable. It is probably the best restaurant in the area. I highly recommend it. read more

Solid option in Lagos. As soon as you step in you feel like you entered a time capsule - things are simpler inside. The menu is straightforward no frills - fish, meat and some sides. Adega is the B. E. S. T. You really need to go here if you're looking for a place for either lunch or dinner. It's fun, the service is great, the olives are wonderful, the green wine by the pitcher is delicious and cheap, and the food is absolutely wonderful. At lunch on two days we had grilled scabbard fish, clams, grilled sardines and pork ribs ("riblets," more accurately). Get the boiled potatoes and skip the fries (although your fellow diners will be scarfing down platters of them). The scabbard fish is especially delicious. The olives are special. You'll be flabbergasted at the relatively low price. You'll identify some fellow travelers, but the vast majority of diners are locals. It's a festive, friendly atmosphere with delicious, low-cost meals. read more

Adega is like a large, noisy, company canteen replete with long bench tables and hassled wait staff. Think also bier keller during Oktoberfest and you get the idea. Fine dining it ain't, they don't take bookings and, at busy times, queues outside on the street are epic and impressive. And usually good humoured. For couples and small groups wait time rarely exceeds 15//0 minutes. Hang in there, it's worth it. We have been coming here at least once per trip for the last 7/8 years and this year was no exception although turning up in a party of 19 was perhaps stretching things. That said, the wait was much longer than usual but the impressive front of house guy eventually got us all in and seated together. An equally competent server managed to take 19 orders efficiently and with good humour despite the din. The menu is mostly fish in all its glory. I must confess that we always order the same dish - 250g prawns pan-fried in garlic with a small mountain of chips and several carafes of house white. Others in the group had salmon (basically a massive slab that could feed a small family on its own) whilst still others had various other items from an impressively large menu. Fantastic food! This is a huge place so don't expect fancy service or fancy environment. You go there for great food. I've been a faithful customer of this place for over 15 years and I think you can't really go wrong regardless of what you order (seafood, meat,...) . I wouldn't leave the place without trying their ribs!!! Bear in mind that during summer months this place is PACKED!!! If you want to avoid lines go there early. Canteen-style no-frills dining, but I must have eaten here about 50 times over the years, so it must have something going for it. Prices are very reasonable and they do some amazing food. Personally, I always order the Mixed Salad for starter and it is absolutely delicious. Their tenderloin steak is also very tasty and I often have their sea bass as well (also delicious). I don't get it. I'm from Pacific Northwest (U.S.) and we have great seafood. This was not good. The traditional salted cod was so salty I could barely eat it. My husband had the sea bass and it was horribly bland and a little dry. My boys ordered the riblets and they were tough, no flavor and came with no type of sauce of any kind. The restaurant is in a great location and the white wine sangria was really good (hence the 2 stars). Skip this place and go somewhere else! read more

So apparently, this is THE PLACE to go, for any travelers coming to Lagos. I came here with some friend who live here locally, and according to them, the price and food quality in unbeatable. And unbeatable it was. If you want a true Portuguese experience, I would highly recommend coming here. I ordered the squid, but tried some of the fish that my friends ordered. No complaints! I do know that over the summer, there is usually a line of people waiting to eat here, so I would recommend maybe coming a little bit early. read more

If there was a choice of putting no stars! That's what our review would show!! We entered the restaurant looking forward to the meal due to good reviews. It's a typical Portuguese restaurant, simple food but at good price... We thought! We ordered wine which took at least 20 minutes to arrive with prompts. The clams which my husband ordered as a starter, only to be told 20 minutes after my starter arriving that they had no clams as they had run out and my husband had to re-order. When we came to pay we were charged for the clams which we hadn't had, and when they adjusted the bill it came to 54 euros. I put 3 20euro notes down which the waitress took away only to return to tell me that I had only put 40euros down. After much arguing about the bill with the manager and being told that if we didn't pay the waitress would have to pay the difference, we begrudgingly gave half the difference. Total scam!!!!! Would never return. Don't understand why people would queue for this restaurant as it's average food at best. read more

If you're in Lagos, head here for your lunch or dinner. Hubby had the famous sardine plate and I had chicken. Very good food and nice portions. Local atmosphere with live music. Local people come here as you can see many of the come with family to have dinner here. We had the dish of the day grilled tuna and from the menu grilled swordfish.
