Communication and coordination did not meet the expectations that were outlined when I booked her services. I did not receive substantial communication until approximately two weeks before the wedding, and during that time I was still managing vendor communication myself. Additionally, I had to correct information that had been communicated to vendors. Two days before my wedding, Veronica informed me that she had taken on more work than anticipated and would need to step back from some of her responsibilities. Receiving this information so close to the wedding was stressful, especially since I had hired and paid for professional coordination services specifically to alleviate that burden. While the floral aspects of her work were handled adequately, I did not receive the level of coordination and support that I expected from a month-of and day-of coordinator. Several responsibilities that I understood to be part of her role were either not completed or ultimately fell on me, my husband, and our guests to manage. These responsibilities included gathering family members and the wedding party for the rehearsal, leading the rehearsal itself, coordinating our grand entrance, overseeing ceremony music cues, facilitating the cake cutting, dismissing tables for dinner, and maintaining an active presence throughout the wedding to ensure events ran smoothly. Unfortunately, there were multiple times during the wedding when neither we nor our guests could locate Veronica when assistance was needed. In fact, several guests commented afterward that they thought we did not have a wedding coordinator because they rarely saw one present. While our wedding ultimately came together thanks to the efforts of our family, friends, and vendors, this was not the experience I expected after hiring and paying for professional coordination services. What was most disappointing was Veronica's response when concerns were raised after the wedding. Rather than taking accountability for the responsibilities that were not fulfilled, she repeatedly offered excuses and attempted to justify why certain duties were not completed. At no point did I feel that she acknowledged the impact her actions had on our wedding day or accepted responsibility for the shortcomings in the services provided. Instead of addressing my concerns directly, I felt that blame was shifted elsewhere. As a paying client, I expected honesty, accountability, and professionalism when discussing legitimate concerns. Unfortunately, that was not my experience. In the screenshots below, you will find the message Veronica sent me just two days before our wedding, which took place on May 30. I found it very concerning to receive a message from my coordinator at such a critical time stating that she had taken on more than she anticipated and would be stepping back from some of her responsibilities. Again, she made excuses explaining that her job as coordinator is difficult when she is not involved from day 1. Then maybe do not offer month of coordination.. You will also find an email in which Veronica stated that she would be in charge of the ceremony music and that we simply needed to provide a playlist, which we did in the exact order of appearance. Despite previously agreeing to handle this responsibility, she later did not take accountability for the issues that occurred and instead attempted to shift responsibility elsewhere. Also in the email, she writes that she will send out a wedding timeline on May 12th. We received the timeline from Veronica on May 22nd, 1 week before the wedding. I encourage anyone considering booking Veronica to take this review into consideration when making their decision. My intention is not to discourage anyone from working with her, but to share my experience honestly so that future clients can make an informed choice. Unfortunately, based on my experience, I would not recommend her services.

I think she is just trying to get that part of her business up and running, but she should definitely stay in her lane. So much went wrong, so here goes. Her budget was way off. She did not return calls in a timely manner until it was brought to her attention. Not a big deal? Ah, sadly, there's more. We found out day before the wedding that her computerized version of seating arrangements was "just an approximation." So seating was way off from how we had imagined and we had to make last minute adjustments. She does not know how to run a rehearsal and announced to all that she had never seen a wedding like ours before! (The men walking to the front while bridesmaids walked down alone). This was followed by her lining up all backwards and everyone was trying to tell her it was wrong. So much confusion that the pastor finally took over saying, "Friends, I'm now running this rehearsal." She should've been embarrassed, but she wasn't. The day of the wedding she asked me how to display the table menus - one for each table. I had previously asked her how many frames to bring and she told me. I brought extra, but it wasn't enough. No problem, she said, we can just put the ones without frames up against the centerpieces. How tacky! As guests began to arrive, a friend asked where she could put her wedding gift. When I asked Alyssa, she said that "no one brings gifts to weddings anymore," so there wasn't a place for them. The wedding was to have bubbles on each seat. Not on mine, and I'm the MOB! Didn't get to blow bubbles for my daughter. And others felt the same way. What part of "every seat " is hard to understand? At the reception, wine was to be self-serve on the table and would then be replenished as needed. When I noticed some friends had no wine, her lame excuse was that she thought it would be nice to serve our guests. But those glasses were empty!! There's more but you get the picture. Along the planning way, when asked for lists of what she should be doing and when, her response was that we had no need to worry because it was all in her head. But it clearly was not. We paid a lot for her services. Almost $6000, not including flowers. The day ended up beautiful but because we had to work around her. Such a disappointment. The most disappointing things is when I reached out to her to discuss all of this after the wedding, she took absolutely no responsibility for anything. She actually thinks she did a great job. I'm here to tell you she did not.

The down-on-their-luck types he's given shelter to. Perhaps someone might've referenced his Saturday radio program. (Mike won't, given his humility.) Or, his Wednesday assistant happens to gift you half a dozen brown and green eggs from the hen who roams the yard. Then it begins to dawn what an honest-to-goodness treasure we have. That is if you get it. Apparently half the Yelp posters don't. Just like our very environs, Mike shouldn't bend to your needs. An issue cited by a couple reviewers--the scattershot hours Mike keeps; "the gate always closed"--is a nonstarter. That owes itself to a 60-something who's forever hustling; taking care of people. Hauling down to San Diego, or up to the Central Valley for increasingly harder-to-find healthy trees. Locals know: When immersing in a desert landscape, patience, being mindful, not to mention showing respect for surroundings allows the beauty to emerge. The payoff comes your way. Without doubt, the same can be said of Mike and Unique.

We used a gift certificate to pick out a few apple trees and a bunch of sages and other things, which all looked a bit rough around the edges because of the season. Once they got settled in at home they're all thriving, and one sage has even re-bloomed way ahead of schedule. I'm so glad we visited, it was such a treat to see this little oasis!

In my opinion, weddings are inherently one of the most capitalistic and borderline exploitative examples of soliciting real emotion for even more dollars. When everything comes at a premium because you attach marriage to it (cake cutting, flowers, catering, etc), you begin to have real fear for how the most expensive component of the whole thing, the venue - will play out financially and emotionally. Liz and Eric are people who are welcoming you into their home, not someone making a quick buck off providing you 4 walls to throw a party in. We instantly felt so incredibly comfortable with them, that we lingered around for a couple hours the next day and talked about the upcoming Game of Thrones series finale. Name a wedding venue where you're going to do that? Julia - the wedding planner is the perfect combination of straight-talking, to the point, hyper focused, but still inherently warm and lovely that you want for your planner. She doesn't waste your time, but she doesn't make you feel rushed or under stress whatsoever. This venue is not for the faint of heart, however. If being a little chilly, seeing a bug or critter or two can completely ruin your night, I'm not entirely sure why you chose a remote desert wedding in the first place (oh wait, probably for instagram). The desert is a rough, unforgiving, but ultimately rewarding place. If you write a 1 star review for seeing bugs in a remote desert locale, you have bigger issues than this venue. Our wedding went off without a single, solitary logistical hitch. The venue was by far the most beautiful venue I've ever attended a wedding at. The owners were the most laid-back friendly, couple I could've worked with. I never dreamed of having a wedding go so perfectly. I'd give you 6 stars if I could.

A big part of the reason we chose the venue, aside from its beauty, was that we could do whatever we wanted, which allowed for total creative control, as well as allowed us to be as spendy or frugal as we needed. The venue itself gives off an incredible energy and the sunsets (around cocktail hour), as well as the star lit sky at dinner was magical.
