I am writing this review to document my personal experience at this surgery center, with the hope…read morethat it helps future patients make informed decisions. What should have been a difficult but manageable operation instead became an experience marked by significant stress, inconsistent information, financial pressure, and what I experienced as a lack of post-operative support. I was referred to this center by my GP and told the situation was urgent. I was seen the same day. The nurse who initially brought me back was polite overall, but when I nervously asked, "Is this going to suck?" she replied "yes" and walked out. While this may seem minor, it increased my anxiety at an already stressful moment. When Dr. Henry examined me, he strongly recommended that my operation be performed at this center. I later learned that he is a part owner of the surgery center. I was told the procedure could be done the next day. I was also told that having the operation at Allen Hospital would likely involve a longer wait and that the hospital might not have access to the same long-acting local anesthetic, which I was told could provide pain relief for several days rather than hours. Based on this information, I chose to proceed at this center. On the morning of surgery, I arrived on time and was informed that the procedure would cost $2,700, with 25 percent required up front. I explained that I could not afford that amount and offered $100 with the intention of setting up a payment plan. While standing at the front desk, I heard staff discuss whether they should "allow" this arrangement. This interaction was embarrassing and extremely stressful for me. I was eventually allowed to proceed and taken to pre-op. I was anxious about general anesthesia and was told that both the surgeon and anesthesiologist would speak with me beforehand. I waited for over two hours. When I asked about this, the nurse appeared surprised that neither doctor had spoken with me yet. When Dr. Henry eventually came in, he referenced a discussion I was expected to have already had with the anesthesiologist. When I explained that this had not happened, there appeared to be confusion. This lack of coordination immediately before surgery significantly increased my anxiety. I ultimately spoke with both doctors and was again told about the long-acting local anesthetic. I was also told I would be prescribed a specific antibiotic after surgery. I was then taken into the operating room. When I woke up in recovery, I began spitting up blood and had severe throat pain. When I looked in the mirror, my uvula appeared swollen, bloody, and injured. I asked to see the surgeon but was told he had already left. A member of the anesthesia team evaluated me and stated that this was not typical, but that it can occur. In the days that followed, I developed a painful sore on my uvula that lasted several days, along with a persistent sensation of throat obstruction when swallowing. This was frightening and very uncomfortable. I was discharged with post-operative paperwork and left with my fiancé. At the pharmacy, I was provided two antibiotics that did not match what I recalled being told I would receive, nor what was listed in my paperwork. Additionally, the paperwork did not contain specific information about the long-acting local anesthetic that had been emphasized as a reason for choosing this facility. The paperwork instead contained general information stating that local anesthesia typically lasts four to eight hours. When I later asked about this discrepancy, I was told that the paperwork contains general descriptions rather than drug-specific information. Given that patients are told they may not remember post-operative discussions due to general anesthesia, I believe accurate written instructions are especially important. Following surgery, I experienced severe and ongoing pain. I contacted the on-call service multiple times and felt that my concerns were increasingly unwelcome. At one point, I went to the emergency room due to pain. The ER provided treatment and then contacted the general surgery team, who advised that the treatment should not have been given. Receiving conflicting guidance between providers significantly increased my anxiety and fear for my safety. Most recently, I contacted the on-call service again with concerns about a possible infection. I did not receive a timely response and was later advised by the answering service to go to the emergency room. When I called again, a doctor eventually returned my call, but the interaction felt rushed and dismissive. There is no patient portal or secure messaging system available to communicate with this office. I raised this concern and was told it would be addressed, but it was not. At this point, I am at home experiencing fear, pain, and frustration related to this experience. I feel that I made decisions based on incomplete or unclear information, and once the procedure was completed, I did not feel adequat

I had the guy out to fix our fridge. He was there five minutes and it cost us almost $100, for him…read moreto tell me we needed to put a wedge under the fridge to tilt it back so water doesn't drip. We did, and that still didn't help so now the floor still gets wet and we're out $100. Also, we bought a used dryer from them and within 30 days, it stopped working. I spoke to a lady on the phone who told me that it was probably our outlet and we needed to call an electrician to come fix it and if that didn't work to call them back. Well, we didn't have the money for that until later when we were out of warranty. It wasn't the damn outlet. So I called them back and they were going to try and make me pay for them to come fix it! I said no, you're going to come out and fix the dryer that we told you stopped working WITHIN the warranty period and you told me it was the outlet! So the guy comes out (same incompetent guy who worked on the fridge), is down there two minutes and comes up and says the dryer is completely locked up and we are SOL because it'd cost more to replace the part than the dryer is worth!!!! So then we're out HUNDREDS and STILL without a dryer! He leaves, and about 30 minutes later the COP is at my door saying they had a complaint about rabbits being kept in unsanitary conditions, peeing on each other, and malnourished. This repair man called the cops on us!!!!!!!!!! I let the cop in, and as we were walking to the basement where they're kept (next to laundry room where the repair man was working, so he was snooping in my basement!) and the cop remarks, "Wow, this house is so much nicer now - the previous tenants were disgusting." I show him the rabbits - all in ENORMOUS cages (they're PETS). They each had a cage of their own, and not stacked up (they're so fancy and heavy they couldn't possibly be stacked and they have wheels). The cop said, "I'VE NEVER SEEN SUCH BEAUTIFUL, FAT RABBITS!" and left. Lying, cheating, thieving jerks.

I was transported to…read moreWaterloo ICU for 1 1/2 hrs from my home in Iowa after I had collapsed in front of my house after severely hitting my head two days earlier. I had been in an ER closer by for that. The decision was made by my primary care doctor and the emergency nurse from my usual hospital that i should be send to waterloo to an receive an emergency eeg to see if my brain is malfunctioning. I have been mistreated in this hopital - i dont even want to call it that - to an extent that terrified me: The neurologist Melissa McMillan ignored the order, an eeg was not performed. I had passed out another time in the ICU and was brutalized by nurses that performed a violent knuckle rub that left my sternum area heavily bruised. The next day I was told they would try to get me out of the ICU to a regular unit to observe me another night or two. Neurologist McMillan visited me. She tried to convince me im suffering from anxiety and stress, that i would benefit from seeing a psychiatrist. Besides the fact known by her, that i had suffered a severe TBI more than a decade prior that left me with multiple neorological problems. I pushed back on this ridiculous assessment. She felt visibly offended. Another hour later or so I was ask by Miss McMillan if I was "ok" to go home" because there was no bed in the regular unit and they needed the ICU bed available. I was shocked by this, but left. My partner took me home and had to leave to take care of my elderly father in law. Not shortly after he left I passed out at home alone. I woke up again before my he came back. I dont know how long i was out. There were a couple of more things astray at the ICU and with miss McMillan i dont see the need to mention here. This is my experience with Waterloo hospital and especially Melissa McMillan. I felt humiliated, ridiculed, mistreated, violated in my patient rights and most of all endangered and fearing for my well-being. The polar opposite of what i should have felt. Here are the facts. I let you be the judge. Me personally i find this lack of care, competence and compassion by medical staff and doctors there unbelievable, shocking, dehumanizing and flat out cruel. I read many people calling for this hospital to be sued. And thats exactly what Im gonna set out to do. Miss MCMillan you should be absolutely ashamed for what you have done to me. You have ignored the oath you took, have shaken my trust in the medical system to the core and thats not even the worst you have done to me. I deeply hope god - and by his will - the legal system will punish you for this...
