We are PCSing across the country & purchased our first travel trailer & came to Admiral Baker to test it out from Los Angeles for a few days over the week. We arrived after office was closed & Enrique met us with the paperwork & guided us to our spot. He was very friendly & helpful! Bathrooms & showers were very clean. Playground by camper areas was temporarily closed but there was a larger one towards the entrance that was good. Vending machines were stocked & available by the bathroom building. Would definitely stay here again in the future! Wifi wasn't the best but reception was good. read more

FYI THIS PARK IS A US NAVY MILITARY MWR INSTALLATION So....this means it's for only active duty and spouses, retired military and DoD civilians. This is a military owned recreation area for active duty and veterans. I grew up coming here and I have a soft spot in my heart for it. You are able to rent out picnic spaces for a small cost and have large gatherings here. There are multiple different sports fields and playground areas for children. I believe there is a pool with a waterslide but that seems to be closed down so I don't know what the deal is with that. I have met a good friend here a handful of times, and we honestly had no idea the park/playground is only for active duty or vets. Even at the entrance there's a sign that says open to the public, well I guess they have changed that and now the playgrounds aren't open to the public. We were enjoying a beautiful day there today, we like going because it's quiet and not busy, but today out of nowhere the manager there a blonde lady came up to us, while we were sitting on a bench chatting, our toddlers happily playing after weeks of rain, and she asked us to leave and said we are no longer welcome because we weren't active military, vets or spouses of one, mind you my friend's husband is employed with the U.S. Navy as a civilian but that's not enough. I couldn't believe the manager had NOTHING better to do than to walk over to us after being there for close to two hours and told us to leave. There was literally NO ONE ELSE there at any of the park playgrounds except one other grandma and two small children. The whole place was empty!! So- what is the point of even operating this place??? The three or four times we have gone, we've never been approached like that and it's never, ever busy so the facility and playgrounds just sit there so unused. It's SO SAD. The managers didn't care that our kids were playing, they didn't show any grace, they literally told us to leave and not come back. When you enter this park - there are NO SIGNS saying do not enter, no guard gate like a base, nothing!!!! It's so unfortunate to me that a beautiful park and playground can't be used by us local taxpayers. It literally just sits there empty all the time which is why I couldn't believe the manager came up to us-- who cares that we were there, it would be one thing if it was packed with military families but that wasn't the case at all. I'm posting a photo that is so misleading as well. I really hope the people running this place would re-consider letting the public use the playgrounds, they just sit there. It's a hidden gem of a place. Why can't children play? Think about how mean that is, we were with our toddlers. To the blonde manager who came up to us- thanks for putting a damper on our day, my friend had just lost her mom, and we wanted a quiet park to sit and chat. Out of all the playground and parks in SD we love this one, and feel sad we can't go anymore. The nerve of the manager to come up to us, like what made her profile us? My grandfathers served in wars, my uncles and cousins too. Does that count???? I would like to understand the purpose of having a beautiful park and playground like this if it can't even be used throughout the day. read more

For several years my group has rented a pavillion at Admiral Baker Park. Most of us are retired or active duty military. We recently rented Pavilion #2 for our annual picnic which cost $315.00. The DJ at the end of the day drove his vehicle on the grass to remove the equipment. The Park representative fined us $100.00 for 15 minutes of parking on the grass. Okay we broke the rule. No damage to the grass. It doesn't matter the equipment was very heavy and awkward to load. The next day I checked my credit card and the Park Manager decided to add another $150.00 to the already $100.00 a total of $250.00. This was done without notifying me. She has made herself unavailable to discuss this for several days. The office representatives seemed to be covering for her and keeping her unavailable. If I don't pay the $250.00 I can banned from the park. That is fine with me. I advise anyone to find someplace other than Admiral Baker their fines and rules are outrageous. read more

This is a lovely large park but offers some restrictions given it own and run by the US Navy. It's common to check in when you arrive to let them know you are visiting but I have a sense it's not heavily enforced. I checked in to let them know I was there to visit for and I was given some good information. I learned if you are a civilian and would like to use the park and its facilities for and event, such as a birthday party, you need to have a Naval personal, active or retired to sponsor you. They do offer a larger picnic table areas for large events. In fact, I remember coming here when I was in Elementary school for some sort of an event. The park has a large playground, a swimming pool with one of those swirly slides, a softball field, a miniature gold course, and a old orchard of olive trees that shade the large picnic area. You can play tennis and have BBQ's here. On thing I would have to say about this park is that they need to address some maintenance issues around the park. Some of the grass areas are not level so be care with the ankle twisties, some of the buildings and benches need some repainting, and if you park near the softball field, be aware there is no netting to protect you vehicle from errant softballs that will head your way, so if you see a game going on, stay clear. read more

Been here many times. One of the biggest parks in SD. Signed up my daughter for Summer swim lessons. 8 lessons for $50. Much better deal than YMCA. my kids love the park. Nice & clean. Well maintained. They're always upgrading & adding new stuff. Note: the big water slide is down till next year. You have to reserve the picnic area for parties. I would assume this place is exclusive for military members & guests. But I'm not 100% sure. Plenty of family activities here. Enjoy. read more

Been here many times as a child and a few more now as an adult. I've come to appreciate this park for its openness. Celebrated several friends' birthdays here, their children's birthdays, etc... Always a good place to meet with friends, have a good time and eat good food. There's always parking and it is secure and safe, being run by the military. You'll find a good pick up basketball game here too. There are some talented kids here balling it up. I'm sure I'll be back. read more

The park overall is a bit run down, could definitely use some maintenance and a little TLC, but it is always super clean which is a huge reason I come. I've found caps to needles all over San Diego county's parks. Because this one has such little traffic it's always clean. Been coming here off and on for 3 years, my father in law is retired Navy so he comes with us most of the time. Years have gone by without incident until recently a new manager feels the need to hassle us almost every time we're here. Needing us to provide proof we're allowed to be there. She is seriously the biggest buzzkill. All of us will be having a great time untill this lady shows up. Now that the time has changed we simply go after 4pm to avoid her. read more

We've had our annual department picnic/welcome aboard party at Admiral Baker Park the last couple of years or so. As a park facility, it's not too bad - there's a number of covered patios that have integrated grills for large parties, and the fields are decently maintained. Parking isn't too bad, though I wish the lots were covered (especially on hot days like this past Wednesday). The water slide looks awfully inviting, but it doesn't look like it's open on weekdays. The bathrooms are your typical park restrooms, but the toilet was having problems flushing (that is, it wouldn't flush at all). A great park for active/retired military and their dependents; I understand the frustrations the civilian folks have over not being able to use it (especially as there really aren't many recreational park facilities in the area), but that's the way it goes. read more

WORST PARK ever! 0 STARS! Do not come here ever. Big open areas of grass but no dogs allowed. What kind of park doesn't allow dogs and threatens with a $250 fine? Also the worst designed parking lot you will ever find. Blockades yo get into the lot Arline the whole thing but one spot all the way at the back of the lot to get in and then circle through the entire are you just drove past to get into there. The entire park has a terrible layout and is super run down and gross. Not recommended for any events or get togethers. read more

This park is a decent size with lots of area for festivities! My daughter enjoyed walking to all the playgrounds! There are lots of covered areas to choose from, plenty of seating and nice big trees to relax under. The grounds were well kept with the exception of what looked to be an old put put golf which was not open, but no big deal. This is a great area for events! read more

Adam has driven by here before and knew about the park so when I said I thought it was time the baby get to experience a park he said we should try it out here. We came on a Saturday afternoon and we were happy to see there were many playgrounds to pick from. We went to one that was closest to the basketball courts and got to having fun. There were bigger kids and teens on the playground when we got there but they were all awesome and respectful and moved away from the baby area. We popped our guy in the swing and got to having fun. He had a blast... but threw up a little so it was probably crazy for his tummy so we moved to the slide. We had a ton of fun going on that a bunch. There is also so much grass! It is a n awesome spot to just hang out on a blanket and enjoy the sunshine and play or let your little ones run around. I know we will be back in the future and suggest checking it out for an afternoon of playground fun. read more

A spacious military park to hold all types of events. Been a while since i volunteered for the wounded warrior golf tournament at the end of the park. Neatly maintained, balls are provided, pool and water slide, plenty of parking, grill, playground, and lots of gazebos to hold a large or small group. read more

This park has it all- basketball courts, miniature golf, horse shoes, shuffle board, a softball field, swimming pool with a two story circular slide and two good sized playgrounds for the small ones including swings and jungle gyms. They also have a lot of covered areas to entertain big groups which cost a nominal fee to reserve for the day. The particular one I reserved was for a party and held around 60 people easily. It also ran me only $120 for a Sunday. For the money, you can't beat it. One thing though is that you have to be active or retired military to reserve. Luckily my dad is a retired chief in the Navy. He was the one that reserved the spot for me. Thanks dad. The staff that work there were very nice. They pretty much took care of my needs the day of the party. They supplied the trash cans for all the trash plus brooms to borrow for clean up. Reserving the spot, you are also in charge of cleaning up your own mess. Which is perfectly fine. They did help us put up a few banners. They put the banners up themselves because it was a liability for us to do it. The staff also keep a beautiful park. The park is clean and is in beautiful shape. If I ever decide to throw a outdoor party in the future. I will definitely consider having one here again with my dad's help. It's inexpensive. There are many different activities you can do on site. They even let you check out sports equipment (i.e. putters and golf balls for miniature golf). The have many covered areas to pick from that can accommodate any sized group. The park is clean, beautiful with many tall trees throughout. This park is a winner. read more

Came here for my company's annual BBQ. Nice and open. They have a covered patio for you to set up your food or buffet. Lots of open space, parking and picnic tables. There is a baseball field where our company had it's annual softball tourney. Although I understand there are really strict rules to abide by here at this park. Our company never has issues, so it's not a big deal. Only thing is that there were ants in the area. Our group sat for about 10 mins, and I felt ants crawling up my legs. Then there were on the picnic table... EW!!! read more

i give it 3 stars because it opens at 12NOON!!! Not earlier!! boooo No seriously.. this was a nice find, for a nice change in pooltime! There is a slide but you must pass the swim test first & you are NOT allowed to wear a lifejacket on the slide... my kids were pissed about this.. but they had a good time anyways... there is shallow side of the pool..3 or 4 lifeguards on duty at all times. Kids 6 and under are FREE!! If you are military you have to bring your ID!!! There is plenty of places to sit.. and bbq on the outside gate. There's a golf course here, parks,bbq,picnic area,Rv's spots & YES BATHROOMS!!!! very important when you have little ones with you! :} GReat place...wish there werent sooo "many rules" at the pool but otherwise we all had a GREAT TIME!!! read more

This is mine and my daughter's favorite park/playground in San Diego! It is HUGE and has so many different playground areas, slides, swings, rock climbing, etc. We can spend hours here because she refuses to leave, we literally were there for 3 hours last time because she wanted to go on all the 10+ slides they have there.There are a lot of picnic tables, grass, shade -would be great for a picnic or birthday party. This park is so clean and well kept, honestly haven't seen a single piece of trash there ever! read more

The kids enjoyed playing on the playgrounds. Theres a rock climbing and rope crossing o sticks course playground and two playgrounds with slides and tunneled. Tons of picnic tables in the shade so plenty of places to sit and have a picnic or party and a nice sand volleyball, restrooms, and a pool!! My niece and nephew sure enjoyed it! read more

This is a huge nice park with different gazebos for your event. I went here for one of my girlfriend's daughter's 1st birthday. We were located close to the pool area. I had to use the restroom and to my surprise it was okay. I was expecting it to be dirty and filthy. I'm glad that they didn't charge for parking. There's different playgrounds for kids to play in. They have parking everywhere. And it's around the gazebos. So it's only a few steps away. And best of all, it's free!! This is one of the few parks that I highly recommend. read more

Terrible! Avoid this RV park. They complain about EVERYTHING! The entire park is ant infested and they do nothing about it. The mini golf course has been abandoned as well as the water park. Seems like it used to be a really nice place but obviously whoever swings the big stick couldn't care less about the place; a real shame. Also, you're not allowed to do laundry past 730pm; what an absolute joke! Person in charge is obviously a civilian with a BS skate job and understands nothing about military schedules. Spend the extra few hundred dollars a month somewhere else, you won't regret it!! read more

This SEEMS like a great park to host an event, but if you're even considering it, move on right now. The people who run the park are completely, totally and uterrly incompetent and will make your event a living hell. The park manager, or whomever he is, insists on charging guests $1 to park in their vast parking lot . He also imposes SO MANY RESTRICTIONS and rules it will make your head spin. They also require you to use their vendors, i.e. children's jumpees and such, which initially sounds alright. When we had our company picnic here with nearly 200 people in attendance, the jumpee vendor arrived three hours late after people had left. I understand it wasn't their fault the vendor was late, but if you're going to require people to use a vendor, make sure it's someone reputable. This park would be great if it was run by competent people. A total waste and shame, but do not get stuck hosting an event here. read more

We were invited to a BBQ last sunday and were really surprised at this "hidden" gem. They have a couple really large baseball fields more general picnic space under shade trees than you can imagine and several "cabanas" that you can rent out for the day (they had a medium sized one and it ran about $150 for the day). You can even set up amplified music for the larger ones. There is also a large swimming pool with a water slide and what looked to me like a kiddie area as well. A couple different playground for kids of all ages. Two really nice sand vollyball courts with nice nets and even a couple horseshoe spaces. I also saw what looked like an RV park in the same area. All in all this is a great picinic area negatives the bathrooms had those horrible metal toilets that always seem to be so cold that when you hover you suddenly no longer have to go. but they are clean and have hand soap apparently (this is hearsay from a friend) if you are not a regular at the pool the give you the hairy eyeball and constantly yell at your kids to behave you MUST be out by 5pm and this crazy lady comes around to remind you of this several times. i've never seen military men fear a woman like that, i found it funny it is military only or friends of military. there isn't a guard shack checking people in so you don't have to have some crazy list for friends to come and BBQ with you but you will need one to get you into the pool. and lastly NO DOGs signs posted everywhere...what has the world come to when ypu can't bring your dog to the park sheeesh! read more

Admiral Baker's sure brought me back to memory lane. As a kid, our parents would take us here for family picnics and parties. The location and the size of this park hasn't changed over the years. But Admiral Baker's sure could use a makeover. What was once grass and field is now mostly dirt. The park is still huge and is equipped with enough parking, benches, picnic gazebos, a playground area, and even a public pool. Also next to the park is the Admiral Baker's Golf Course and a mini RV park. Overall, only giving Admiral Baker's 3 stars because the park is not what it use to be. Maybe I'm use to a clean park. I came here today a for a family party and it was nice. This park is nice with the gazebo set-up for shade and plenty of tables and seating for accommodating and entertaining guests. Surrounding the area there is also a playground which is perfect for the kids, and in addition they have volleyball courts. Surprisingly the bathrooms were very clean which was also a bonus. This park has easy access as it is conveniently located near the freeway. A great place to bond with family and friends, make memories, and enjoy the sunshine. read more

We ended up living here for 6 months while waiting on housing. I can't say enough about how thankful we were to have that option. RV spots are fairly close together, most are gravel. Nice covered picnic areas spread throughout the RV area. Some trees. Nice grassy area to walk dogs, play catch or anything else. Well maintained bathrooms/shower rooms. Very reasonable rates! Grounds offer a lot: multiple playgrounds, horseshoe pits, volleyball courts, basketball courts. The pool is excellent but open only seasonally and there is a small entrance fee. There is a brand new miniature golf course. Lots of picnic areas for very large groups that you can reserve. Just down the little road is the golf course, driving range and club house. We enjoyed the Sunday Champagne brunch a few times at the club house. Admiral Baker has a pristine location. 10 minutes to Local attractions like Seaworld, Balboa Park and the beach. Walking distance to Qualcomm Stadium. The reasons I gave it 4 stars instead of 5...because of the location you kind of always hear a sort of roar of the freeway and aircraft flying over. Also due to its location being right at the I-15/I-8/Friar's Rd interchanges, traffic can be a nightmare at times. The other negative is that this area has a problem with small desert predators at night. There have been quite a few coyote sightings and we even lost our cat to an attack. We were not the only ones. I could put the star on if only we had been warned by staff. Maybe if we had been warned our cat would still be alive. So I would definitely recommend this park, just watch your pets at night! read more

I love bringing my children here! The playground variety is every kids' dream haha. It's never too crowded and tons of space for kids to play and run around without having to worry about them running into traffic. It's always clean and there are plenty of bathrooms to use. There are also volleyball courts, basketball courts, and plenty of benches and gazebos for family and friends BBQ's, parties, etc. Oh! And they have a pool with a huge water slide open to the public during the summer. Not sure how much admission is though as we have yet to go. You can't go wrong. read more

This park is TERRIBLE. I'd give it one star for the pool and the slide and the other star is for the less than mediocre staff. I had asked a staff member if i could go in and briefly speak to my husband ...I was not staying. She informed me she would need to charge me 4 dollars. If anyone in their right mind thinks a grown woman with her 4 month old baby in her hand is trying to pull a fast one over 4 dollars is out of their mind. Based on principle I asked to speak to the supervisor who was very nasty as well. It's almost like they're angry that they're working there so being mean to patrons is where they get there entertainment for the day. I won't be returning. read more
