I used to work for Phillips Labs/DOD at KAFB as an engineering Tech! So I know personally from experience that, for the most part, "computer nerds" aren't the most sociable people with infectious personalities. This guy DJ, the owner, is just like that. His customer service skills are extremely piss poor! He keeps pushing you to pay $50 for a consulting fee without detailed explanation of his capabilities and any assurance whatsoever that he can get the job done. When this was SIMPLY and respectfully stated to him as a potential customer concern, he threw a tantrum like a little kid and hung up like a little punk. Computers are major purchases where you are spending as much as $3000 or more!!! Thats not chump change in this current economy. I was prepared to drop that because I need what I need and I have the money. However, just because a person may be smart enough to understand everything about motherboards, RAM Memory, and processor chips doesn't mean he knows how to conduct business properly!!! That seems to be the case here! If you are spending hundreds upon thousands of dollars, you want to be assured that you have someone that's going to be reliable and personable enough to answer your basic questions! I needed to install a larger internal drive, but when I attempted to copy everything to transfer to the new drive, the process hung up at the end, and all the paths to locate the files on the original drive were wiped out. The unsuccessful copy was useless, and my attempts to restore the paths using third-party software failed. OK, so it was time to try restoring the most recent backup from an external drive, but that failed as well. Fearing the worst, I took everything to PC Place, where Charles was confident that the files could be recovered one way or another. He explained clearly what steps he recommended and what my options might be. After analyzing the situation, recovering everything from the backup seemed most promising. It took several days to accomplish it all, including installing new internal drives, preparing a new external backup drive, and performing a general tune-up of the system. After a nail-biter of a week, ALL my data files were restored exactly as they had been - whew!! Charles also provided recommendations for maintaining the system in the future. The charge for their services seemed reasonable, and it was worth every penny!

I took my laptop to Dan's Computers late summer to order and install a battery for my HP laptop. It…read morewas during COVID and most of my international work is online through Zoom, so it was hard to find a time to come in. I finally found it and left it for a day to install. I got it back to home and my office and within 2 weeks found the battery wasn't charging as it was supposed to--2 hours vs. 12 that it should provide. I called Dan's and spoke to the staff person who had installed it. He told me it was in the warranty period--1 month--and that he would notate the problem in his system so I could come in whenever I was able in the next few monthswork schedule and COVID and they check it and reorder the battery for free and re-install it. I finally got a day w/o Zooms and work and brought it in and talked to the manager who opened my computer and said the battery was faulty. But he went on to say they would charge me for a new battery. I told him his staffer had made a notation within the warranty period and told me it would be a free replacement. He checked his system and said their was no notation so it was my problem and I'd have to pay the entire cost of a new battery, but he would help with labor. I told him it wasn't my fault that his staffer forgot to add it to the system and I would like to talk with him or he could call him since I thought he'd remember our discussion and the problem. He refused and said he wouldn't call him, he wouldn't let me talk to him, and he ordered me out of the store when I said this was bad customer service and I shouldn't have to pay for the bad battery they installed. I will never go back to Dan's computer. The manager was terribly rude, basically insinuated I was lieing, but refused to ask his staffer that I talked to to confirm what I was saying. I will take my business to other local computer stores and let all my friends and family know how frustrating and unfair Dan's Computer manager is!!!

Vu is super nice and helpful, really more interested in giving you the service you need than the service most profitable. My 7-year-old MacBook now runs like new after he replaced the hard drive, gratefully saving all my files from a crash. And he finished it in three hours! The place is a bit scary to walk into; it looks like a technological graveyard, with antique machines sitting silent and dark, hardware entrails scattered about. But it's telling to me to see the long-dead zombies waking from their years of defunctitude, with their goliath towers and ancient green screens impossibly blinking back to life.
