We hired the certified consultant he recommended, Mintz InfoTech [MIT]. The rate seemed high and I dreaded dragging in our components to a storefront (and probably not getting back a power cord or whatever during the return). But we need our machines to be fast and secure or we lose our clients. Within four hours of our call, Marc sent us the most polite and knowledgeable tech I've ever encountered. He went through a detailed checklist and discovered problems both big and small, fixing most on the spot. We were educated on why our system security was vulnerable, and why the wifi was so slow. He set up an automatic backup, even cleaned up the screens and keyboards. I took my laptop to Dan's Computers late summer to order and install a battery for my HP laptop. It…read morewas during COVID and most of my international work is online through Zoom, so it was hard to find a time to come in. I finally found it and left it for a day to install. I got it back to home and my office and within 2 weeks found the battery wasn't charging as it was supposed to--2 hours vs. 12 that it should provide. I called Dan's and spoke to the staff person who had installed it. He told me it was in the warranty period--1 month--and that he would notate the problem in his system so I could come in whenever I was able in the next few monthswork schedule and COVID and they check it and reorder the battery for free and re-install it. I finally got a day w/o Zooms and work and brought it in and talked to the manager who opened my computer and said the battery was faulty. But he went on to say they would charge me for a new battery. I told him his staffer had made a notation within the warranty period and told me it would be a free replacement. He checked his system and said their was no notation so it was my problem and I'd have to pay the entire cost of a new battery, but he would help with labor. I told him it wasn't my fault that his staffer forgot to add it to the system and I would like to talk with him or he could call him since I thought he'd remember our discussion and the problem. He refused and said he wouldn't call him, he wouldn't let me talk to him, and he ordered me out of the store when I said this was bad customer service and I shouldn't have to pay for the bad battery they installed. I will never go back to Dan's computer. The manager was terribly rude, basically insinuated I was lieing, but refused to ask his staffer that I talked to to confirm what I was saying. I will take my business to other local computer stores and let all my friends and family know how frustrating and unfair Dan's Computer manager is!!!

My 7-year-old MacBook now runs like new after he replaced the hard drive, gratefully saving all my files from a crash. And he finished it in three hours! The place is a bit scary to walk into; it looks like a technological graveyard, with antique machines sitting silent and dark, hardware entrails scattered about. But it's telling to me to see the long-dead zombies waking from their years of defunctitude, with their goliath towers and ancient green screens impossibly blinking back to life.
