I walked into the shop yesterday based on the great Yelp reviews. There was a man and woman cutting hair, and a man in the back, behind a partition, cutting hair. Get the picture? Three employees, three customers. I walked in and noticed it was not very tidy, but okay, times are tough. I asked if they accepted walk ins and the older man nodded his head. For the next 15 minutes, no one, the employees or the customers, made a sound. Not a word. I wondered if maybe there was a guy robbing the place and they were afraid. I mean, what kind of weird dynamic that six people in the middle of the day are all together and none of them are talking? I could only hear the snip of scissors. Nothing more. I took a call outside and looked back and realized that no one asked my name, or even said one single word. There were no signs posted with prices, nothing. Came back for a second round n she wasn't there, asked an elderly Asian man for the same cut just shorter, gave me a buzz and did the proportions terribly. After cutting my hair for myself since the pandemic began, I felt it was time for it to get an expert touch. I have lived in Monrovia for 2 years now and I have passed by Adolph's barber shop many times. Today I went in and Miguel cut my hair and did my beard. He paid attention to detail unlike my crappy haircut techniques I usually do. He did my beard with a razor and you know you got a good cut when you almost fall asleep. At the end, the cut left me very satisfied and I gave Miguel a 20% tip. There is an ATM machine inside. You may as well get extra cash to do the self car wash next to the shop. 4 stars. Traditional-style barber shop. Miguel makes great conversation and does a neat job on the cut. Will use shaving cream and a razor blade to trim your neck and sideburns. The other two barbers ( The two-seat shop is a bit run-down in contrast to Miguel's prior shop to the LCD TV hanging from up high, but it's clean and there are about six or seven chairs for those who wait, as well as plenty of magazines to entertain you while you wait. The majority of the clientele appears to be middle-age and beyond, but you never know who will walk through the door and everyone receives proper attention. The wait can be quite long, which only goes to say that proper time is taken for every customer, but if there are 5 people ahead of you, that can be a good hour-and-a-half wait. Men's regular cut (don't know if they do anything else): $12, before tips. Verdict: no Vidal Sasson or Fabio-types here. I got the single worst haircut of my life. And no, I'm not exaggerating. I had the misfortune of arriving when all the other barbers went on lunch break and I was stuck with the female barber (can't remember her name). I requested a 3 on the sides and a slight trim on top. She seemed a bit timid at first but quickly picked up the pace. When she got to the top, she said, "I'll just shorten a few strands in front." I immediately told her that wouldn't be enough and that I'd prefer a bit more off the top. What did she do? She started cutting like crazy and she had my back facing the mirror so I had no idea what she was doing. By the time she was done, I was appalled when she handed me the mirror and it literally looked like someone had taken a chunk out of the left front side of my hair. To make matters worse, she told me to simply comb my hair in the opposite direction of how I normally have it. Are you kidding me? Anyways, moving on... I noticed a patch of hair that seemed longer than the rest so I asked her to please trim that part. In fact, I asked her three times but she wouldn't do it; instead, she reasoned that it wouldn't look good. Well, sure enough, she was wrong once my hair dried later that day and I noticed a patch of my hair was flaring outward like someone had fed a single part of my head with miracle growth that made it stand up taller than all the rest. The final result: the haircut was asymmetrical (one side longer than the other), I'm missing a patch of hair on the front of my head, and I'm stuck with this haircut for my upcoming wedding. read more

This is a solid spot. You get a quality cut at a decent price, and they do walk-ins. It can get busy, especially on Fridays and weekends, so you want to make sure you come as early as possible. There's plenty of parking available, lots of seats, and they usually have a TV on in the background. All the barbers are cool guys and are always looking to provide the best service possible. Went in for a Crew cut as I was recommended to this place. I show the older gentlemen a picture of the crew cut style I wanted. He said that the picture I was showing him was not a crew cut. I had asked him to do what I had shown him. Instead he gave me a Buzz Cut. Same size all the way around. I was unable to style it at all. Honestly I could have stayed home and buzzed it with clippers myself. I also asked that he would taper the sides, and it seems as though he doesn't know how to do so. I will never return here again. Very unsatisfactory. When I told him that he gave me a buzz cut he argued and stated that it was a crew cut. All though it looks nothing like the picture I showed him. read more

I have been coming to the shop since 2014 when they were a few doors down in the triangle unit. Sergio, Maria, and Miguel have been there the longest and are always super nice. Jose is my go-to guy and always does a nice job of conversation and being efficient in his cuts. He remembers the conversations we had months ago, which I really like. Prices have increased substantially since COVID-19 so be prepared to bring double the cash you normally would bring. Wait times can be 1.5 hours long at peak but sometimes it's completely empty. They do have appointments for a few extra dollars as well. You get the straight-edge razor trim at the end and a splash of aftershave. read more

This is my regular barber shop to go to. It's a short walk over from my place and on a big street that makes it really accessible. There is plenty of street parking available as well as a parking lot in the back. This place has some TVs so if you come by and there is a wait (which there usually is), you'll have something to do to kill some time. All of the barbers are skilled and can handle any combination of haircuts, beard trims, and shaves. I usually go here for a buzz and a beard trim. However I would recommend calling ahead because this place can get packed. read more

So the search continues to find a regular barber. Decided to give Adolph's a try, since it's right by my house. Street parking off Duarte. The street's fairly wide. Not busy at all, so at least I don't have to parallel park. Because that's how I roll. There's 3 barbers on-hand, two guys and a lady. Three stations. AC was on, great for a hot day as today. There were no one else there until I was about to leave (around 3pm), but if there's a waiting line, there are these movie theater seats there, which I found rather amusing. A TV is mounted to the wall (playing KCAL9 news), though while I had my hair cut, I wasn't facing it. Guess it's not for customers. The lady cut my hair. Sorry, didn't catch the name. None of us didn't really talk at all while I was there. Told her I wanted the "regular cut" and off she went. Majority of the time was with the clippers, with scissors to layer out the top. There's also a little bit of water spray action here as well, which I first experienced while at Great Clips (http://www.yelp.com/biz/great-clips-monrovia#hrid:RLJL54w-7uWxy9tRhNixXg). Is this a standard practice and I'm just simply unaware? Afterwards, she gets some shaving cream and shaves off the bottom sides and back, then puts a bit of aftershave, which I thought were nice touches. Price for a regular cut is $14, which I think is a bit pricey. I was in and out within half an hour. Small restroom in the back, that doubles as a storage area. Very cool experience. I'll continue my search for a regular barber, but at least I know there's a place by my house I can go to. read more

I started coming here about 5 months ago. Rating Scale (1-5) Location: 4 -There is enough parking spaces on the side of the building and on the street. Inside: -Three barber seats with about 7-8 seats for customers. -No style compared to the new shops that contain a theme. The shop is good enough to get a cut. -There is a tv there and if you are into sports he usually has the games. Barber: 5 -The barber that I always go to is Sergio. Never fails to give me a fresh clean cut. I get a mid-fade comb over. He uses a blade to shave and clean up the line up. -Time on the cut: averages about 40-45mins. Waiting time -It all depends on who you are waiting for. Sergio has a lot of customers that like getting their cut from him so the time can change from day to day. I would suggest calling to get a wait time. I will continue coming here to get my cuts from Sergio. There are NO RESERVATIONS only walk-ins. read more
