Save yourself a future massive migraine and DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY FOR ANYTHING!! I looked into several security companies and decided to try and save a few bucks by going with ADTs useless offer. Dumbest mistake I made in my life! Thought a long existing large company would have their act together by now but not HAPPENING!! So every negative review you read about ADT is completely true. Shame on me for ignoring them... This scam starts with the $99 down but will "be refunded" with a VISA reward card..lmao. Once they have your credit card info & verbal agreement you're screwed. The MPEL Visa gift card took 10 weeks to receive after paying ADT $109 including (taxes).Billing my credit card took 30 seconds. Installer showed up, advised that their so called "special" didn't include most items you usually get with an alarm package, and tacked on an extra $800 to the bill. We advised him to refund my $99 and leave. Nice kid, stated he really needed the sale,so knocked off all additional charges. Special was for $27/month,which basically amounted to nothing. We added lifetime service on equipment plus a carbon detector, window break item. so now up to $41 a month. Agreed on this with the installer, and all was installed. I am not the homeowner and was helping an elderly friend. I wake up the next day with a $89 credit charge from ADT. This was NEVER AUTHORIZED nor did I sign any contract with them!! The contract was sent to my email since my credit card was used for the $109 charge originally. The elderly homeowner had signed everything with the installer, including giving him her credit card authorization. I don't even live in the same STATE as the homeowner and never should have been charged. She was also charged the same amount. Most important to get this all straightened out was like a wall agreement. I've never dealt with so many ignorant, lazy,lying (passing the faults between DEFENDER AND ADT) people in my life. Its been 4 months and they STILL can't get their billing right. They just NEVER get ANYTHING right. Customer service is every negative review and MORE. DONT BELIEVE A WORD CUSTOMER SERVICE TELLS YOU!! My friend used to work for them and said they DO NOT CARE cause they have so much business. After a month of imaginary service we found out the system was NEVER even connected with fire or police. Incredible!!! And this is dependable security for an elderly person?? The fire and police permits were finalized 2 months after installation. Hopefully all is functional but we're awaiting future issues. If I could give zero stars, I would. If ADT comes calling.....run away. Never sign a contract with them. If you ever want to upgrade equipment, they make you sign another 3 year agreement even if you buy the equipment upfront. If you have to move and there is no way to move service to your new location, you cannot contact anyone of authority in the company that can make an exception, even if you have loyally paid this company for 15 years. Shameful. And...as soon as you put your house up for sale, you are bombarded with phone calls, emails and "visits" from sales people trying to get you to sign up at your new location or to get the new buyer to sign with them. If I could not give ADT a star I would. I've had the system for 10 months now. Both remote doors stated they were locking and failed to lock. In the mean time I'm out of time and not sure what security I have. My neighbor went over and stated it was locked even though the panel stated unlocked. My google door camera/bell was out of power in less than a month. I got new Wi-fi and it took HOURS to get it to connect to the cameras. Only days ago I had a tech come out to get the doorbell to work and to make sure all was working. Now days later my google door camera is not seen on my app. No video at all. My main panel states it has a low battery now. Wouldn't the tech check that first!!! Their help from over seas says its because I lost electricity - my tenants state this has never happened. Like to give a negative star. I live in a rural area of New England. I have had ADT systems for several years. Even upgraded to the Pulse System several years ago. ADT has no problem finding a sales rep to come out and sign you up for upgrades - at the cost of $5000. which I did when I renovated the property. But try to get service on the system - I get the run around. Their (local) service dept. is more than one hr. away. Customer svc. tells me the local office will call me within 48 hrs to set up appt. - don't hold your breath. I've made appts. where they have never shown up and I am currently trying to set up. Right now I've been been on hold with ADT customer svc. for almost 2 hrs. getting bounced from dept to dept. Finally asked for a supervisor - that's a joke. Customer svc said supervisor would escalate call back but not speak with me. How professional! read more

They said once the security system is purchased, it belongs to the house and they are not responsible for it. They will only come fix it if u have contract with them. ADT is unique in my experience of service providers: it increases my monthly charge without telling me. It's done this about six times in my eight years with the company. When I spot the increase on my credit card and call them, they rescind it. But I missed it a couple of times and I'm now paying 10% more. Check your bills! read more

There is a problem on the installation and they want me to pay for fixing it and when I asked them to terminate my service, they said I have to pay 75% of the remaining contract balance. One of my glass detectors was not working properly, so I called ADT to try to get it fixed. To my great surprise, they told me they had not monitored my system for several years! They had never told me this, and I had always paid every bill--something ADT admitted. So, I set up an appointment to get my service re-started--using one of their ridiculous 4-hour service windows. The 4 hours went by, and the company stood me up. I had agreed to a $99 service fee for the appointment, but after having been stood up, I asked them to waive the $99 for a second appointment, given that my time is valuable, and missing the first appointment was their fault. I scheduled an installation for Friday and the poorly trained tech was in my house for 7 1/2 hours. After it was all said and done, the doorbell camera was installed and then removed by the same tech because the company could not produce the proper battery for the doorbell. Within the 7 1/2 hours, a manager showed up and he was not apologetic about the problem and obviously came to the house for nothing!! He appear to know just as little as the tech. Not only was I left without the free doorbell that was offer in my package, I was told to BUY one on amazon and install it myself. He finally left without educating us on how to use the system. The amazon echo was never even removed from the box. We were told we could figure it out. We were also not explained how the ADT and Amazon echo work together. Furthermore, we were not instructed on how to use the panel to secure the home. We tried to figure it out ourselves however the device kept giving us a message of error. After calling ADT, we were told we are not secured or connected. After the 7 1/2 hours of my life wasted, I spent over 2 hours on the phone with ADT being transferred everywhere to be told I do not qualify for an emergency and I will have to wait 3 days to send someone over during MY work hours. I am expected to miss work again another day when their incompetence already wasted an entire day of MY life. In addition, the customer service reps ( who call themselves managers and supervisors) showed no consideration for my situation when I asked for the emergency visit to the home. I was debating between Xfinity secure and ADT. I was obviously mistaken when I thought ADT would be the better choice!!! read more

@ADT I purchased my house in January of this year. I've reached out to ADT for an alarm system. I have been having issues every since February with my alarm system calling at least once a month or more for services that are not working especially my doorbell the most important thing is that I really need. I am paying monthly for my services I have not had a month straight without I need to Russian or having to make a call for the system being down. I have to get up out of my bed to go and see who is at my door if I am not here I can not act as if I was here and answer my doorbell. I have had two packages missing I am fighting with the credit card company right now over a package that was not received it was not delivered I don't know because the doorbell does not work. Today a technician came out replace the doorbell a couple hours later the doorbell is not working here it is 922 at night and I was on the phone again with ADT The person I spoke with couldn't really tell me anything but to call the cancellation department because I said that I want this system ripped out of my house. I have only been offered one month credit and this is on going. I am a widow I live alone I cannot sleep I don't feel safe in my home with this ADT system and it seems as no one can help no one can figure this out. I don't believe that I'm the only one that has ever had this issue I am very frustrated. ADT I'm tired of you saying I understand your frustrations no you do not you're not here you do not lay in the bed at night and can't sleep because your alarm system is not working properly. We've been under construction at our home for about a year and I cancelled our service in April 2018, noticed they kept billing and called they had no record. Cancelled again still billed through August, again cancelled and billed through January 2019. They won't let me cancel my contract. Customer service has called me daily multiple times for the past few weeks trying to offer me deals to stay (while still charging me). Their CRM isn't working and they are still billing me and threatening me now to pay the balance. American Express has declined payment to them now. This is a huge issue and the company needs to fix their billing/cancellation. We will not re connect with ADT when construction is over. Ring will get our service. read more

They gave us a camera and called it the PULSE system and when we moved across the country after two years (had it for like seven in total), they told us it would cost us $662 to terminate our contract in a house we no longer owned. Our residence in Great Falls, VA was destroyed by a fire in late June 2019. The system was installed in late 2000 by the original owners and we continued the ADT monitoring service and maintenance when we purchased the home and system in 2004. We were assured by the ADT Security System LLC representatives, who installed the alarm system, our system was excellent and required no upgrades. During their infrequent visits to repair defective sensor zones, they provided repeated assurances and did not suggest any upgrades. They did not suggest installation of heat sensors in the garage or kitchen as recommend by Fairfax County Fire Department, which would have detected the fire that broke out in an electric socket in the wall that adjoins the garage and kitchen vanity. They did not visit annually to physically check the alarm system as reportedly required by Fairfax County code. The single ADT smoke detector was in the main hallway of our house (no ADT smoke sensors on the other three levels), about thirty feet from where the fire originated. I detected smoke billowing from beneath the garage door at 9 PM from the master bathroom window on the second floor. Telephone records provided by ADT indicated they received the smoke alarm warning at 9:17:48 PM, estimated to be 45 - 60 min after the fire started. ADT Central Monitoring Center contacted the Fairfax County Police/Fire Center at 9:19:30 PM. The ADT panic button I pushed at 9 PM to alert ADT failed to work (the land line telephone was operating). My spouse and I watched the fire destroy our house from an ambulance while fire fighters from multiple county fire departments attempted to extinguish the fire. Copies of the installation contract and the monitoring service contract were destroyed in the fire. ADT Inc. nor its subsidiary, ADT Security Systems LLC, Springfield, VA, would not provide copies of the contracts, likely because of their concern to avoid a lawsuit. My letter of complaint to the ADT President, Mr. James DeVries, was also ignored. Although our insurance company paid for the loss of the house and a portion of the personal property, the latter coverage was insufficient to cover the total loss of personal property. I view the ADT television commercials as very deceptive, conveying a false sense of security to prospective clients. My best advice is for prospective clients to avoid ADT Inc. and its subsidiary, ADT LLC (dba ADT Security Systems LLC), at all costs and obtain services from more reputable companies that provide fire and burglary systems and monitoring services. read more

There are more companies that are close to nothing for monthly and provide the same service. I recently canceled and instead of canceling they "gave" me a 2 month to stay but u specifically asked to cancel. They billed me anyway and I called again to cancel and they're still honoring the bill and I'm told I still have to pay it even though nothing was connected anymore. I tried to cancel my mother's account months ago but didn't have my ID code. They couldn't figure out a way to confirm my identity other than by sending me the code in the mail, which I now know was just a ploy to buy time and delay cancellation so they could collect more fees. They sent it to the previous address instead of my forwarding address in another state, even though I gave them that address when I tried to cancel the account the first time. My mother was also diagnosed with stage four cancer and I moved her out of the house to another state but her sickness and being out of the house also weren't enough for them to get off script, override their own policy, and show some humanity by waiving their fee for the two months that we weren't there. Don't you just love how everybody pretends that there's some sort of God-like machine that prevents them from waiving fees? Like it's completely out of their control? The clown I was talking to said it's their policy, but we all know supervisors and managers can call and override policy if there are extenuating circumstances, wish there were in this case. (Their sending the code to the wrong address, my mother's terminal illness, and moving out of state.) If a dying mother doesn't access somebody's humanity, what will? Obviously, the soulless automatons I was talking to have lost their humanity already. It's all about the bottom line, not people. I can see why this crap company has a one-star rating. I've had this service for 3 years now I paid for all the upgraded sensors that would go off if someone was pounding on the windows before they break. I was assured that if a bird hit them cuz I like to feed the birds it wouldn't set them off and sure as heck every time I went away it set off the alarm so the replaced it with the traditional sensors of someone tries to pry open the window. Oh this service has been got awful it hasn't worked half the time I switched my routers out but kept the same Wi-Fi network and password it doesn't work anymore it gets the point where I can't use it every time I go away to visit my father's house in Florida. The adt customer service reps are very nice but this is a joke. The doorbell apparently needs a micro USB cable which I don't have and they don't supply it to you that you have to take off and recharge. I said nothing but major issues with the system it just doesn't work well to the point where I just don't even turn it on because it doesn't work. Also the panel interface was not as good as Vivint although I had issues with Vivint with false alarms in the middle of the night for no reason which was more than unsettling. All in all a waste of money don't waste your time with ADT there's much better options out there like buying the damn ADT sign and put it in front of your house and you something like simply safe for a fraction of the cost. I finally gave up when I was told that I'd have a technician call at 10:30 and I called at 10:45 asking where are the call was and they told me it was a half hour window at 11:45 I had other plans and my kids. ADT lied to me and got me to agree to a "take over" an existing contract from the previous business. I explained that I was selling the building and would not really use the system, but agreed to the month-to-month monitoring fee. When I went to cancel, they informed me that I was bound to a 36 month contract - $850 to "buy it out". I said, why would I have agreed to that when I was selling the building?! ADT Pulse is outdated, and only serves to provide you with a false sense of security. The motion-activated video recording with only record a 30 second clip. Once that clip is recorded you can not trigger another recording to start for another 5 minutes! That's 4 minutes and 30 seconds anyone can do anything in direct view of your camera and you will capture none of it. That is NEVER explained to customers when they push that garbage on them. On feb 27th, i tried to cancel my account online, there was no way to do so, therefore I tried to do it via chat. They told me the only way it could be done was by calling customer service. So the next day I called and spent a half hour being transferred around until i finally got to someone that said they could take care of it. After another 10 minutes i was assured it was taken care of. I asked if they needed me to return the equipment they said no. Almost a month later, i am still getting service calls, and i looked online and see i am still being billed. I have even been billed for next months service already. So, i called again. After explaining the situation to 3 diferent people, and all 3 saying they see a note that account is to be cancelled, but it never was, they put a manager on. She tells me this needs to be dine in writing. What the hell? Why couldn't the chat people tell me that? Why did i have to call? Why didnt the person i talked to last month tell me that? The representative for ADT came every week without fail to convince me to use their product. Without fail! Rain or shine! Once I finally agreed a representative has never been seen again. And the 3 camera system he sold me became a two camera system because of course my internet wasn't any good. Was never told a three camera system needed the fastest internet on the market...but I learned after installation! And please always read the fine print. They sent over a totally unprofessional tech who said they don't even sell hardwired cameras and he installed some outdated alarm parts (not the stuff you see on TV) while taking selfies of our view and asking for a taste of wine from our cellar! By his own admission the system did not work when he left, and he said because our house is concrete some of the sensors would not work. After he left we tested other parts of the alarm. the motion sensors, the glass break etc and none of it worked. He also damaged our walls. It is a total scam. Once those 3 days are up, ADT LOCKS you in a 2 or 3 year Contract. If you decide to cancel after 3 days. You are expected to, and MUST PAY %75 of the total amount the 3 years consist of! Deanna Scott, a customer service representative/Sales team member, from ADT that sells you their security system is outright TERRIBLE. We purchased a system for our custom home located in Santa Rosa Valley near the mountains. It was stated that we needed burglary and fire alarms and that I needed to have this installed as soon as possible as our insurance company (State Farm) was going to cancel us on Feb. 5th if we could not provide them with this certificate. Deanna said the earliest date for installation was Feb 2, 2022. I asked to be put on a cancelation list and expressed my concern that this was very close to the cancelation date that underwriting was no going to change. The installation team came and were here 9 hours. They showed the fire button, police button, etc. When I went to print the certificate it only showed we had burglary alarm and NOT FIRE! State farm has rejected this certificate. I have been calling since this morning and no one has been able to help me. In order to have "FIRE COVERAGE" you need "ADT SMOKE DETECTORS" installed. DEANNA SCOTT FAILED TO INFORM US OF THIS AND SAYS SHE CAN DO NOTHING BUT MAKE AN APPOINTMENT FOR US NEXT WEEK which is to late as our coverage is cancelled as of today. She has no concern, no follow through, and basically once she gets her commission has little interest in helping her clients. This puts us in a very difficult position as very few companies provide insurance in Santa Rosa Valley. SHAME on DEANNA SCOTT for not informing us. Dear all (Reading this review) Anyone who has had positive experience with ADT is either paid to write a review or just got somehow lucky. Please don't ignore my review (it will do some good to you). Signed up for ADT without knowing too much about them. They came for installation. Was at my home for 8 hours. Their trick, They will first install few things so you have a mental impression that uninstalling will be pain and you will be more willing to sign up the contract. I found that they were much more expensive so decided to cancel the contract within the 3 days. The guy who came to pick the equipment (Mark from Hayward/Oakland area) gave me an offer that was so good that I couldn't say NO (all equipments free of charge). So I kept the installation and the contract. They said 5-7 business days to get the refund. Now from here the horror starts. It has been about a month and refund is nowhere to be seen. Also now they say that the cancellation is no more valid as I took the refund offer. I have spent hours on phone. They keep making different excuses. Now they are saying it will take 30 days once it get approved (so its not even approved yet..How can someone make an offer and then say its not approved). This is all pre-planned fraud from ADT. I am going to cancel ADT if they don't refund me soon, even if I have to take the hit. Otherwise I'll be encouraging a fraud business. Also as noted my many other reviewers, their refund of installation (99$) also seems fishy. I haven't got that yet as well. My advise to the readers, the old days are gone. You have so many choices these days. Better to not sign contracts and get yourself trapped. Warning to all do NOT use ADT unless you want a company that has horrible customer service and they do not communicate with the 3rd party technicians that they contract out to do the installation. You are on hold forever whenever you call with an issue. They don't show at appointment time. They promise all these things to you but don't do any of the things they promise. They left huge holes in our walls. The list goes on and on but I don't want to exert any more energy on this. Now we need to start over with a company that knows what they are doing. I had been an Akerman customer for years and unfortunately they were swallowed up by ADT. I always had excellent service and they would occasionally charge a small fee to come out. Sometimes they didn't charge anything. Back in Jan, my ADT system went down and we went unmonitored for a bit before I called for repair as the usual troubleshooting method didn't work for me. So, I called in late Jan to request repair. Tried troubleshooting with their assistance, but was unsuccessful. The Adm told me it would north of $60.00 for someone to come out and $20.00/hr for them to fix it. I told I was new to them from Akerman and they never charged these absorbenate amt for something to look at it, let alone an Hrly rate and cost of equipment. I became excited in a bad way and told her in no uncertain terms would I be paying for this crap and said "get rid of it", close it, etc. Although we weren't monitored, I still paid the bill when it came. I went to Brinks after searching for other than 'ADT' companies.. I return home from travels to find a large Bill from ADT. This is when they actually closed the account. However. Equipment still not work, still not being kept safe, and they continued to demand payment. Their error, not closing the acct in Jan. My error for not calling when another bill came. I spoke with so many people at ADT and the only remedy they could offer was $26.00 adjustment. They acknowledge that I was being monitored since mid January, but the account wasn't closed when I requested. I too them to April to close the acct and they want there money. For WHAT? Don't use them and please help stop ADT from gaining the monopoly on Home Security systems. read more

Liars, the sales rep told me that the price of the system would be offset by my reduced home owners insurance rates which would go down after confirming a security system was installed. Called my insurance and they raised my rate to cover the security system. Called adt to cancel and they told me to call safe haven which they said was an ADT employee. Called safe haven and they said they are not ADT employees and wanted 1540.00 to cancel the contract, which I would not have signed Or accepted if I knew they were lying about the discount from my insurance. This was the biggest selling point for me considering I live in a safe neighborhood. read more

I am sorry I did t read yelp rating prior to my contract signing! I thought I was purchasing a system from ADT and ended with some company "Defender" who did the install and then signs my contract to ADT for monitoring. Within the first couple of days sensor fell off doors and in two weeks other sensors sending signals saying they were inoperable! Contacted ADT ... Oh you need to talk to Defender! Contact Defender we can come out in two weeks fix it. Not satisfied I asked to speak with upper management. I was told by a manager named Merick- " my director does not speak to customers! I find this hard to believe ! If I could I would get ADT and Defender Out of my home and NEVER deal with neither of these companies!
