We entered into the nightmare that is their customer service phone system. We went around and around until we were connected to a customer service manager. He recommended we downsize to just sensors. A company is so often defined by how it handles unfavorable situations, and ADT has proven the worst, most dishonest and exploitive that I have ever experienced. Early in 2024 after a cancer diagnosis I began the process of trimming whatever costs I could to help meet the deeply expensive treatment that I needed. ADT monitoring was one such service, I had been with them for 5 years. When attempting to cancel after explaining my situation the representative made every possible attempt to keep me signed up for the service, over and over asking what it would take to keep me as a customer and over and over I had to explain that nothing could be offered I have cancer we just need to cut unnecessary costs. At this point they said they would cancel but my contract required a payout - after five years there was no such term on anything I signed, and I asked for the contract to be provided as I don't have anything showing that - they said a copy would be sent and they would hold my billing for 3 months while it was resolved. I never received a copy of the contract and billing resumed. At which point I called back and explain again the situation and all that was offered was the same - billing would be held, and the contract would be sent for my review to show the fees. And again, the contract was never received and the billing resumed. Calling for a third time and being offered the SAME solution that has failed twice I agreed to ONE last attempt. And again, a contract never came, and billing resumed. A fourth phone call, still ongoing treatment for cancer and explaining the entire turn of events. ADT again gave the same stall - we need the fees paid to release contract. Over a year and 430 dollars more charges for a service I had asked to be cancelled. The entire ordeal was explained to the 5 times, each department couldn't help me - they would transfer me anew I would explain again and be told nothing could be done. I am still on hold chemotherapy being intravenously supplied with no resolution in sight. The cavalier financial cruelty and dishonesty from ADT was unmatched during this period, even other companies with poor reputations like AT and T, insurance companies and such handled the situation sometimes with long holds and maybe a follow up call but nothing at all like this. I always try to be reasonable, I gave ample chances and remained polite and clear with all the representatives never took my deeply upsetting situation out on them despite the hour long holds and transfers and ADT seems content to nickel and dime 400+ dollars from a cancer patient rather than just treat their customers like people. I think it's fair to say, I could not recommend this service to others. read more

Then once I finally cancelled with them they told me it would be $450 to cancel which at this point if I never have to deal with them again, worth it. I am still waiting on information from ADT, the short version is ADT provided to another customer my name, address and credit card number they had on file for my payments to ADT. While I was out of the country, my credit card was declined for my use. When I questioned it, it was because of a charge of over 5000.00 to my account. When I returned home and reviewed all the information, it appears that ADT did not use their double verification to identify the person calling in and my address was used initially. The actual address of the installation was to be in Tennessee, I live in California. Numerous calls to ADT did not answer any of my questions, I filled out all their paperwork and had my signature notarized, sent it to an address in Colorado. I have yet to hear back from them, no apology, no explanation, nothing. This is a security company that in my book leaves a lot to be desired. I would not recommend this company for security, this is not the only problem I have had with them, those problems are small compared to this one. I had a complete security system installed and there were many mistakes made when installed, not the least of which was that the main control panel didn't work at all. When I made ADT come out and fix it, they broke the control panel for my HVAC system which I've been battling them to get fixed. They have provided HORRIBLE customer service, not the least of which is trying to charge me for the visit to come out and fix the control panel that was not working since its initial installation. Worst customer service. I called to cancel my account. Instead they offered me 3 months of free service to keep my account. I agreed. I was charged for 2 of those months. I called to get a refund. Someone I spoke to said they would process the refund. I said I wanted to cancel my account. They said to wait until my refund. 2 weeks later no refund and now another months charge. Unacceptable Service and Responsibility Deflection I am beyond frustrated with ADT's customer service and lack of accountability. I've been on the phone for almost two hours, only to be told that because I didn't test my system monthly -- something they "recommend" -- I'm responsible for paying for six months of service when my system wasn't even being monitored! Here's what happened: My panel was still working with my door lock, but I wasn't able to control my thermostat. When I called ADT to check on the issue, I was told they haven't had any monitoring data since JULY. It's now January, and the only reason I even discovered this problem was because I tried to adjust my thermostat during a cold snap here in Houston. How am I supposed to know my system isn't being monitored when everything else seemed functional? ADT expects me to be the expert, testing the system monthly, rather than ensuring their service works as advertised. Isn't monitoring their entire business model? This experience has been a complete disappointment. Instead of resolving the issue, they've wasted my time and made me feel like I'm at fault for their failure to deliver the service I'm paying for. Avoid ADT. After their carbon monoxide sensor failed, we were given two options: 1. keep the sensor on line and have it chirp every minute or so 2. put the sensor in test mode (which you have to update every 24 hours) and have the console trigger an alarm every few hours. These were our options until ADT would get around to replacing the sensor, 4 days later. There are NO options to silence the system until the failed device can be replaced. it took the technician 4 hours to set up 2 cameras, 3 door sensors, and a few sensors on the window. ADT is actually the worst customer support and care I have ever received. When I first bought the system almost 3 years ago, they sent all the parts and I set it up just as the directions told me to. I followed all the steps, synced everything I needed to, ensure the base had a "home" right next to the wifi router so there would be no question regarding if it's working, connected, etc. After initial set up, roughly a couple days after, I got an alert that one of my window monitors was low battery. I initially thought, no problem, I'll call and maybe they can send a new one. I called, they then had me open the device and do some troubleshooting and ensured it was faulty and would need replacement, so we did ensure this and they sent a replacement. Now fast forward a week, 2 more sensors go low battery. I call them and walk through the troubleshooting again and we figure they are yet again faulty and will need to be replaced. Now week after week for about 2 months there was constantly a sensor going low battery or dead and as I was still in my window of cancellation, I told them that I gave it an honest go although it wasn't working for me and I wanted to cancel. The person basically told me, that's too bad - YOUR TWO DAYS PASSED YOUR CANCELLATION NOTICE. Fast forward to receiving and setting up new devices, tearing sticky gunk off my window trim each time, and placing new ones that also went low battery or dead after a week or so, I called again very frustrated. I was basically told that's too bad, we will keep sending you new sensors and this happens and is common when they are sitting in our warehouse then shipped out (you obviously cannot get around this). After hours of back and forth with these people and months and months of time wasted. I have reached the end of my contract. For context, I signed an addendum to my contract to have it cancel sooner, which is how the lady explained it to me. After just getting off the phone with them yet again to ensure it would infact cancel in the next coming month or two, she said, "YOU STILL HAVE A YEAR" I said, "no, I'm looking at my addendum that was signed for this contract to end in 18 months, which should make that this summer of 2025." I don't know where to begin. Shady salesmen (Safe Streets) who promise you things that ADT doesn't even offer just to get you to buy the system. Incompetent service technicians. [Disappointed] I was a customer for 4.5 years the main reason for leaving was when I would call Tech support that would ask for my Password which I forgot. They said they would send it to me by mail which would be at my house in approx. 5 days meanwhile my system was disabled. The most recent issue was a few days ago when it took 3 calls to tech service to silence the beep noise from the C.O. sensor. Having to call tech support more than once is typical for this company. It can not be one phone call one repair. The price per month was $61.00 which is double versus the company I just signed up for. I won't mention there name since I want to see how they do. One thing I really don't like is once I called and said I was cancelling they told me there is a 30 day cancellation notice which means even though I do not have them protecting my home they don't have a problem charging me another month just because apparently it is in there contract. I was told after signing up by the sales rep that set up the connection ,that the referral reward would be given which was a lie. Totally fraud. His name is Michael, and he works in the Phoenix area. I had been an ADT customer for 3 years and before that 5 years at a different address. I reactivated my service and a tech came out to check my equipment. The doorbell camera could not connect to WiFi and was told the only option I had was to upgrade to a Google Nest door. The tech told me that the price was $250 which seemed a little expensive. Since I figured I had no other choice, I agreed. I had a wired doorbell camera and asked if I was going to get a wired doorbell replacement. I was told yes. After it was installed, a week later, I noticed on the box that it wasn't wired it was a battery. When I called ADT, initially they told me I could replace it as it hadn't been 30 days. She told me that I could convert the battery camera to a wired camera which would be an additional fee for a tech to come out which I thought was unfair since I didn't get what I thought I was paying for. She said that's find and transferred me over to cancellation services. When I speak to that representative she tells me I only had 3 days to return, which isn't true. The 3 days is for cancellation of the contract not equipment return. Then she says, it was an add on. That was also not true since my doorbell camera was not working and I was getting a replacement. It wasn't additional equipment added on. Naturally, I would need a doorbell camera as part of my service and that was the only one I was told that they had. One thing I was not told was that I could buy my own camera and set it up as I wish. On top of that, they told me I had a past due balance so I could not return because of this, although I was able to sign up for service and was not told about the balance. I think ADT promotes misleading information on pricing and makes up policies based on who it is they are talking to. Stay away. I realize that ADT is a household name but they are not customer friendly at all. I got the impression that they give you misleading information just to sign you up so they can lock you in a contract. Once you're in they are like "too bad" you have to wait until your contract is up. They are not forthcoming with information and if you don't know the right questions to ask, you're screwed. read more

Do not walk...Run from this company. New customer service team took over and they are useless. We have several properties secured with them and have had properties that we have cancelled with them. So e the cancellations they have been still billing us for YEARS even though they have notes in the system stating they are cancelled. Trying to get in touch with a manager is impossible. They call back and let it ring once and hang up so they can put a note in the system stating that they tried to call back. This is a horrific scam. Supposedly we are marked as VIP because we have multiple accounts. This is the WORST customer service I've ever dealt with. The representatives (such as Bodhi Lee) just tell you to wait for a callback. He was cold, not helpful, and couldn't give any answers accept wait for a call back that never comes. I'm going to cancel all of our current services and possibly have to file a suit in order to get anything resolved. If you are looking for a security system please look elsewhere. read more

We had a fire in our house and guess what, the ADT fire alarms did not go off. I wish I could give no stars. Customer service is horrible, all they did when I called to see how they could remedy this was transfer me to person to person. We were given no reimbursement as of today April 4, 2024 nor have we heard back - the fire was back on March 12th. it's a good thing I'm pregnant and woke up to use the bathroom because my whole family could've perished. Went with ADT in 2018 when we bought our house. The service and install was a pain but was completed. I now am trying to cancel my service and they won't let me. They're using tactics like making you sit on hold for 30 min plus. The third time I called to cancel I asked if I should just stop payment to ADT and the lady's response was we will just take you to collections. Do not use this company. Why should I have to or need to give a reason for cancelation? And just so you know you cannot call and cancel your service at the end of the contract.. it is 30 days form the date you call.. AND you are charged 75% of the rest of the contract but unable to use the service. If you call less than 30 days before the end of your contract you are charged for an additional month!! I have been a customer of ADT for almost 30 years. Up till now I have had no problems with them till now. I had an appointment window scheduled for 8:00 to 12:00 today. Yesterday I received a call from ADT. When I answered there was no response on the other end. The call ended and I assumed it was a confirmation of the appointment. I never received a subsequent call till 11:00 this morning after waiting for 3 hours. Again, I mistakenly assumed this was the technician letting me know that they were on the way. Instead it was a customer service agent calling to reschedule the appointment. When I seemed confused, the agent stated that they called yesterday. I explained that there was no response on the call, they apologized. I ended up having to reschedule for next week. An apology is fine, but clearly before canceling an appointment someone should leave a message or wait for confirmation. Keeping someone waiting for over 3 hours and having to reschedule without proper notice is completely unacceptable. read more

I have been a customer of ADT for over 15 years now. At the end of 2023, we started having issues with our system not connecting properly to ADT. It is an old system and could not be easily upgraded. In speaking with the sales team, they sold a new setup which I was very excited to get installed. We agreed to put everything on a single monthly bill (services & installation) for a 3-year contract. The installation happened at the beginning of 2024 and seemed to go flawlessly, and I enjoyed the new system. That is, until the bill arrived. They decided to charge me 1/3 of the total installation. After calling them and explaining that this should be over 36 months, not 3 payments, they agreed and escalated the issue to a different department for a new contract. Unbeknownst to me, they sent that contract via e-mail, and I did not see it. The following month, I called again as they were looking for payment. They agreed and escalated once again to regenerate that new contract. This time, there is no new agreement sent to me. I have continually called to find the status and I am repeatedly told that it needs to be escalated. Now it is nearly October, and they are demanding full payment or service is shut off. I called once again, and no more help. I have asked to escalate this, and they have agreed to send this to the local ADT office, but I do not see that happening. I should have listened to the other reviews and either created my own security system (much cheaper) or went with someone else. I am sure I will end up paying this in full to keep the services running, but this will be the last purchase with them. I really wish this would have had a better outcome, but alas - just does not seem like they care anymore. read more

The ADT panel which they installed stopped working properly after 18 months into a 3 year contract. Although the panel has a warranty, the labor warranty is only 90 days. The labor is $135 to come out and $30 every 15 minutes they are there. I'd end up paying a full year's worth of monthly fees to fix a piece of their equipment that is under warranty. So ridiculous. They were suppose to come for service finally today between 12 to 4, they called us at 2Pm telling us that they are sorry but the part they need for the job is missing and they need to order it and reschedule for another day.
