- 2012 became ADT customer - 2016 upgraded to pulse (with a 2 year commitment according to the ADT) - May 2018 I learned that my ADT videos take 30 second clips & have a 3 MINUTE RESET PERIOD before another 30 second video clip can be recorded ADT offers 24/7 CCTV recordings but are not viewable online from anywhere. I need 24/7 recordabilty accessible from anywhere in the world via the Internet with searchable month day time & 30 day video storage. - May 2018 contacted ADT account manager to cancel service. ADT account manager stated there would be a $698 early termination fee. I have to reboot the system every month. 2. my doorbell camera stopped working , so I called ADT customer service. they had me recharge it for 24 hours and told me it was fixed. nope still broken. This company is very unreliable and has very poor customer service, something that is very important when it comes to your homes security. I have a very basic system, 1 camera, 2 doors and a smoke detector. It was installed on April 10th and I have had to have a technician come out twice to my house to repair the recording of the single camera, another important part of a security system. You are unable to get through to customer service and if you leave a message they will not call you back. I never write public shaming reviews, but I cant seem to get through to the company via normal channels so here goes: ADT is the worst security system you can possibly install in your home. I grew up with ADT and installed their system in my first home (despite my parents warnings that they charged random fees and never showed up to complete scheduled work). WOW that was a mistake! After two years of service I moved and cancelled the service -- since canceling I have received two or three calls a week notifying me that my service is disconnected. Yes, I know-- I disconnected it while on the phone with the cancellation team, signed the necessary paperwork and removed the equipment as instructed. These calls will not stop. Every week I remind the customer service rep that my account has ben cancelled, give the history of the account and go through the whole story with numerous departments all over again. This takes HOURS out of my week. AND it never sticks! The calls keep coming, and I am STILL being charged for the service that has been cancelled. If I can give negative stars I will give this company a negative 10. Stay away from their predatory practice of signing up individuals to long contracts when they were purchased over by ADT Security. I sold my house and moved out. I get a new bill from ADT stating that I owe them monthly service charges now that ADT purchased Ackerman customers. I called Ackerman weeks ahead to cancel my service as I sold my house. But Ackerman never got back to me. They said their loyalty (whatever) group will get back to me to proceed with the cancellation. Not only did they not cancel my service they sold me like a whore to ADT. Run for the hills. Installer promises an 'instant' $100 dollar gift card, but it's a total lie. They take your money, lock you into a 2 or 3 year contract, then when you go to ask for the 100 dollar gift card they dish you off to "Mpell", some 3rd party call center, where they put you on hold and then finally after persisting, they will send you a form to fill out, make you send in a shipping and handling fee, then wait 2 months before it comes in the mail, if it ever does. June 10th, An ADT representative/ technician arrived at my property to view inoperable cameras. All 3 cameras have not worked for almost a year. Sound and Wi-Fi is not optimal with these cameras. One of which is a safety hazard and has bare wires exposed that I attempted to put tape around. I was told I needed an extender because none of the AT&T routers work with ADT. If I don't do that then I must PURCHASE some sort of Google extender which would cost me $411. So I've been told I need to pay for cameras that do not work and one of which is not to code. I took time off from teaching to accommodate ADT's appt. Their lack of customer service is deplorable and the fact that they will not release me from my contract without penalizing me for over $3000 is absolutely criminal and fraudulent. Do not seek ADT for your home security. I had BRINKS, which was bought out by ADT, so I've had security for over 20 years. So VERY disappointed that now I need to take legal action against them. We were recommended Safe Haven and ADT for our new home . On October 7th Justin came out to the house for the initial consultation. While he was here so was an ATT technician installing internet. While here they realized we couldn't get better than 2 mbps. We made clear our wants, but was told it wasn't possible. My parents and myself were able fulfill our financial obligation. However, everything was suppose to wait for the internet since we didn't meet the minimum requirement. We switched to T-Mobile gateway. Still, we are not pulling the speed needed. Justin was spoken to frequently and still proceeded to swear the product which required stable internet would work. Three weeks of appointments, products not being installed, failing products, and disagreements. Justin told us there was nothing that could be done. We were charged though, and for stuff that was NEVER installed. Afterwards we went back to Safe Haven who wanted to give a discount. I called the manger and requested cancelation due to reasons above, repeating my self multiple times only to be berated and talked down to in a disrespectful manner. Originally I just wanted cancelation, but based how they treated a disabled vet that has since changed. The contract is a whole other issue. The contract is designed unethically, and biased against the consumer as ADT bears no responsibility to complete install and unless the consumer cancels within three calendar days. However this was done since we called the technician numerous of times during the first three days. The fact that this contract, as current, does not require the equipment to be installed or the services working implies that ADT can just charge you without ever having the intention of fulfilling their side of the contract. This, in my opinion, is the very definition of a bad faith contract. In summary, save yourself the hassle, heartache, and money. Go somewhere else as ADT is against you as a consumer. read more

This company is a joke they came out to install my system damaged my siding left a mess . Then for a whole month two of my cameras weren't working and all they did was refund me 8.00 . I have had my alarm going off since two days ago because of a error and they want to tell me there is nothing they can do for over a week because there isn't anyone in my area . I signed up with ADT back in 2019 for a two-year contract when the gentleman installed the system he told me that there was going to be a set price every month around 60 bucks but he told me that after my two years you'll see a slight increase in fee which I told him that was no problem because I wasn't sure how long we were going to be at this residence And probably wasn't going to renew my contract after my two years was up. When my two-year contract ended I noticed a slight increase in my bill but was not going to renew because we were going to be moving out of the residence and no longer needed the service. When I called ADT and spoke with the representative she mentioned to me that I could not cancel my service because I gave a verbal consent to renew it. I NEVER SPOKE TO ANY ONE NOR GAVE A VERBAL CONSET TO RENEW THIS CONTRACT! Now that we are no longer at the residence I am still paying for service we are not using and in order to get out of a contract that I never gave a verbal consent I have to pay $920.69 who's has that kind of money just laying around. When I asked to speak to a manager I was really surprised on how poorly I was treated as a customer. When I asked to see some type of proof that I gave a verbal consent all they sent me with a piece of paper that had no signatures from me giving them the OK to renew the contract. I thought that when you were renew contracts There's paperwork involved?? I guess not with this company.. I'm sorry but I will never do business with this company again! I called in about a battery issue and the rep said he could reduce my rate by $5/month. Hmmm, for those of you who are considering ADT, I'm going to check out alarmrelay.com. They're $8.95/month and they say they can use ADT's equipment. They also support cameras, etc. I did look into cameras a few years ago with ADT and it was the monthly charge was EVEN higher than my exorbitant rate. It was in the $50+ range. They also tried to charge me for my last service call, which was for a hardware issue on my end. Yes, I know that I could have fixed this before now, so it's partially my fault. However, they're selling peace of mind, and it's not very reassuring that the company that is keeping you from being robbed-is robbing you in the process. By Bye ADT (UPDATE- The latest rep told me that I could have bought the battery myself - even though I have the maintenance agreement. Watch out about their pricing. In my current plan I was told that $18 is for maintenance, but they also offered me a plan with contract for much less that worked out to the maintenance costing $2/month. I'm fed up with ADT Security. They double charged us for alarm monitoring at a rate way higher than other companies like SimpleSafe or Ring charge. When I call ADT, no one will fix the double charges even though it's very obvious when looking at our summary of charges that we were charged twice for the same period. Even though I can see 24 months of billing history on line, their billing department cannot see it. I think I'll have to file a small claims case. Worst service of any company I can recall ever dealing with. I had two 2+-hour phone calls, and the ADT reps keep saying they are transferring me to a supervisor, but then they just shuffle the call between the billing and account management department to people who are not supervisors. The quality of their voice lines is so bad and there is so much interference on their lines, that it's difficult to understand the representatives. Also, when we recently had a problem with the keypad, they told us our system is so old they cannot provide maintenance or replace the defective keypad even though we have been paying for maintenance all these years. Two years ago we got ADT to come out and put in one key pad and one free doorbell, and one hand held key pad. They were able to use our sensors except for the motion. Which we had them add. After all that and testing of the system they said sign here and the monitoring will cost us $30+ dollars a month. They never explained to us about fee's along with contract. Well, problems with the doorbell and keypad on the wall causing us numerous problems. We finally had it with them charging us for each time the technician came out. Thinking that after two years of this crap we will just cancel and get another service. Well, they said that our contact did not end until December 2022. We told them that we would never consent to a three year contract. They said that we had chosen a three year one and signed it. What happened was when the technician came and installed he neglected to inform us about the contract and to sign here for the install. I told them to cancel it and to tell billing that I was not going to pay the $600+ dollar early termination fee, and that they can take that fee and put it up Hunter Biden's nose! I am a long time customer of ADT (since 1999) yet the 2nd time ever needing a battery change, I was told it was something I could do myself. The directions for changing the battery include a small Phillips head screwdriver, 12 volt 7Ah battery (which I searched Lowes, Walmart, and Home Depot to no avail), small pliers w/electrically insulated handles, and electrical tape. This sounds like an electrocution waiting to happen. My ADT panel is in my closet above the top shelf. This means I would need a flash light also. So for safety purposes, I called to have a technician come out. I was informed, it would be $114 with a $30 discount (?) so $89 per hour; plus battery charges. Mind you on the FAQ, it states the battery was free annually and $29.99 if less than a year. My question is this how a over 20 year customer is treated. Also, the technician informed me that the battery is free only when it is mailed out and it is not enough time due to my scheduled appt. Really!? Not a happy customer, Mrs. S. White read more

We retired, ditched the home phone so we had to transfer our ADT service to wireless - the transfer paperwork was in super small print and the sales guy never said it obligated us to 3 years of service no matter what. The contract did say that if they went up on the price, then we could write to them and cancel at that time. The contract went up - I called 4 times, and got a month or 2 here and there discounted but nothing for remainder of policy, so I then wrote a certified letter to the address on contract - never got an answer and when I went to cancel figuring I can because they increased the price and they got my registered letter, they billed me over $400 for canceling service early. You can't talk to anyone about this - everyone says you just have to keep paying for the remainder of contract. So (1) they are very expensive compared to the company we now have for same service; (2) they don't adhere to their contract and you can't get to a manager to track down corporate letters compared to customer care reps handling the calls; (3) when we accidently set off the alarm twice in one year, no one ever called or noticed; (4) when you call to quit the service they tell you that your equipment won't work at all anymore - this is NOT true - it's just not monitored but the horn in your attic still goes off if you set the alarm. They may have been reputable once, but no longer. Almost all other companies have a way cheaper plan for the plain alarm service (no camera's; video; etc) but they don't. I am only giving this a 2 star because of our technician who was really polite and good. After 14 years with ADT, I signed up with another company. The system was not working and they did not want to upgrade it. So as soon as I called to cancel I was sent to the account retention department. Spoke to a nice young lady Starre. She offered me a really good package. Not as good as the Xfinity deal but it included cameras...or so I thought. Starre asked me a couple of questions about my system, did I have a hard wired doorbell? Could I check out the wifi speed in the locations we wanted exterior cameras? Everything was a go. I received a doorbell camera (which would not work without paying an additional $35 after technician got there) and 2 exterior cameras. I purchased a 3rd camera for $179. At this point Not a deal but tolerable. Then the problems started happening. 1. Cameras are not like any other cameras you could buy. Nest, etc., all have way better more compatible systems. First They do not record....they only take 30 second clips after motion is noticed..THEN they just stop for 4 MINUTES to re-boot or whatever to take the next clip. So if someone was trying to break in, It would catch them walking up to your house, but not running out with your TV. 2. They also are not compatible with Linksys or any Mesh system extenders, or maybe it was Comcast/Xfinity or maybe it was just anything that was not their overpriced product. So you can open your computer or app and see live stream but it will not send notifications or make clips unless I know buy a different extender/modem than what I have. 3. Another solution? Well of course they had one, in addition to purchasing their modem for some sum I did not even at this point discuss I could also spend $540 for an NVR to make the cameras actually work like the free apps from everyone else. This NVR cost $225 on Amazon and Best Buy and no more than $299 anywhere else, but they charge $540 because you know, liability. Say What??? What liability? The liability would be in the 4 minutes of blank time already programmed into the substandard cameras so you can force a customer to buy something at a 200% markup. I asked to supply the NVR for them, same model etc. Nope. I asked them to match the price, Nope. In other words all that "free stuff" came with a mega price and in my case a 5 YEAR contract since of course I would want to keep this great price, and they needed to make up for the "free" stuff. So unless you like a good bait and switch where they pretend to give you a good deal, and then they sic Elizabeth on you to act like you should feel happy paying a 200% upcharge (I was at an additional $800 at last count) to make their equipment actually work like everyone else's does...by all means lock yourself into the deal of a century. read more

My husband was in the military, and was promised a veterans discount on installation. The ADT guy who came to our house did the installation. AFTER he was done installing, he presented me the bill with NO military discount at all! I paid via credit card and tried to get in contact with ADT customer service via phone call to correct it. They aplogized and said it would be resolved. It wasn't. So I then emailed do I'd have written proof that there was communication. They claim they are "working on it" and sent my complaint to whoever they needed to. I was supposed to get a reply. I never got one. I tried multiple times! So if you or your spouse is a veteran, do NOT go with ADT! They lie to you about a military discount just so you sign up. I went with Xfinity and found out it did not play nice with ADT. I received an error message on my alarm panel. I called ADT and they were sending someone out the next day. He came out and told me I needed to upgrade my system because switching over to Xfinity was not compatible with my alarm system. When he came out to install the system, he did a great job. However, with this new "upgrade," I could no longer arm the system on instant without a delay. With my previous system, I could. Both he and another person I called at ADT, said "it's always been this way." I had my previous Brinks system for 14 years so there was no mistaking I knew what I was talking about. Worst customer service ever. spoke to Josias and then Shawn. Very simple issue. Replacing windows in our home need to either have contacts removed and re-placed or upgrade system. First rep Josias could not even understand that. After I repeated it three times he asked me why I wanted an upgrade. He transferred me to second rep, when after a long conversation he could not understand the issue or offer any help. Second person Shawn, said she could set us up for a three hour appointment with a sales rep free of charge. Isn't that nice of them to not make me pay for a three hour sales pitch? I booked the appointment with her or so I thought and then said I still need to know, if we need to take the contacts off, will that person be able to do it because our windows are being replaced next week. Her answer was I can't even talk to you about that that's not my department. The phone call went downhill from there as she repeatedly talked over me. I asked her to please stop interrupting me and she told me I'm just going to send you to the department that can help you and then she put me into the general endless customer service loop again. I checked my account and of course she did not book the appointment. 45 minutes of my Valuable time wasted. This is how ADT treats a customer who's been with them for more than a decade. Absolutely worst experience. Features that were sold to me were not possible, such as the two was communicator. was told it will work for all alarm instances. Well the fire department has been sent out 3 time for false alarms due to the alarm malfunctioning. ADT refused to fix it and with a 3 year contract i am still paying. They tell you 1 thing when you have questions about your bill and when you point out that they said did not match what the bill states, the turn it around and say you misunderstood and change the story to suit their needs. You must give them a 30 day notice to cancel the contract. Not 31 or 32 not 29 it must be 30. Contract is up on Nov 17. called on Oct 3 to state not to renew it. was told "sorry we can not accept you cancellation until the 17th. if you cancel past the 17th you will be responsible for the bill for 30 days past the day you cancel. read more

ADT Customer service is the worst that I've ever seen. I spent over four hours total and trying getting something resolved. I get past department department. If I could I would choose another alarm service because of the customer service but I am stuck. I will charge you enormous fees if you leave. I got charged over $600 for moving. But they told me all the fees are waived but they still charge my card. After I called them all I got was excuses and switch different departments and nobody wanted to really help. I have one lady said that's life you need to take it and MoveOn because you're not gonna get your money back. Her attitude was very poor and I couldn't except it so finally I called back and I talk to another person and I asked for a manager and they told me well they'll have to call you back which I never did. This company is full of liars. Their managers are worse. When I sold my house, I called and told them a month before and after it sold. Both times I was told the same thing. Just leave the equipment there and when I bought another house they would come and install the new equipment at no charge. I thought this was great. I was not in a hurry to buy and waiting for the perfect house to come along. They got VERY IMPATIENT and threatened me several times. I kept telling them what I had been told and then it was OK. I got a letter from a collection agency saying I am being sued and I had to pay to get out of the contract. I paid and I want EVERYONE to know what a SORRY company this is. I have now bought another home and got Simply Safe. I love it. Especially the $75 a month in savings for the same thing. I hope no one else falls to this horrible company. Also, as I am gone 6 months a year to travel, I had to have a friend come over EVERY WEEK to reset my machine so it would work!!! I called them so many times, they quit answering my calls. Wish I would have read the reviews before signing up with them. Explained to the rep when signing up that I was going to move and eventually get a physical system installed, they said BluebyADT was the best choice. They told me not to worry about anything and that when the move came, I would be able to then change. I now am trying to cancel and the cancellation fee is RIDICULOUS. They charge for the entire time of the contract you have left over, so what's the purpose of cancelling? I am literally paying over $700 to NOT have the service. This is not a cancellation fee or early termination fee, you're basically getting screwed into honoring the entire agreement term, which is 36 months by the way (also insane, every other company does 12 months). Spoke to the cancellation supervisor/manager and she was as condescending as it gets "well, ma'am, you signed the contract, so not, I can't help you". Yeah, thank you. The level of customer service, amount of cancellation fee, and the fact that she couldn't give me the total until AFTER charging my card was absolutely ludicrous. ADT has come by my house on foot two days in a row. I have a giant bright turquoise no soliciting sign. I answered the door today and asked them to stop coming by. I pointed out my no soliciting sign and was called rude. It's rude for your company to continue to disturb us when we obviously have signs. I have an old system, which Protection One installed and serviced for years.ADT took over Protection One.Since then the service has gone steadily down hill. The service dispatcher send techs out without the equipment to do the job, so,they have to keep coming back. At this point I scheduled an appointment to disconnect the system. The service department confirmed the appointment twice, and today arbitrarily cancelled the appointment because " my system cannot be fixed and I need to upgrade my system"..they are right my system cannot be fixed because altho they can replace the batteries they can't put the sensors back on line because they lost the programmer! 2 weeks ago my house alarm goes off at 3 am in the morning scaring me and my wife. We have had ADT security over around 15 years. When this happen we called ADT in the early hours and they told me no signal because of no Land line at home. So I have been paying for this monitoring with no Landline connecting the system. A rep calls me from Custom Home services division of ADT. I told him what we needed and he gave me a price for Cell, new pad and will have technician here in 2 days. Technician arrived but could not install new touch screen keypad because of the outdated control panel. guess the rep did not know if this or did a good enough job of checking everything in the house. I called and texted him and his manager but they never return my call. Is this the way a large company like ADT deals with current customers who are paying monitoring fees for years.
