I think the one person on here who gave a 5 star got lucky. Where to start. The installer was nice enough but that's about the only good thing I have to say. 5 false alarms later, (especially fun when they come in the middle of the night) They finally figured out that maybe a wire was crossed in the phone system and that was triggering the alarm. Next, the equipment failures.... The back-up battery fails 9 months into owning the system, and I get to pay for the service call. $25 for them to come out and replace the equipment! Lady in the billing department was less than helful, and explained the charges could have been higher had I not signed the guarenteed service charge max. that's all well and good, but I have to pay $25 when their equipment fails? sounds like a money making scheme to me. And the 90 day guarentee is obviously a joke. Kicking myself for not paying a little more int he beginning for the local Bay Alarm company. I wonder if I can switch when the two years are up..... read more

My advice regarding ADT . . . ? Run, don't walk away from these hucksters! Be sure to read my experience BEFORE YOU SIGN ANY ADT CONTRACT! I applied for their residential service for my home in Wisconsin. Although I asked the salesman multiple times whether I can cancel the contract after a few months (I knew I might have to relocate re job), he continually assured me I could cancel at any time and rushed us to sign the contract so we could get out to dinner. After my wife and I signed the contract, he took it with him back to the office. I never was given the chance to properly read all t. he fine print so I could learn all the details and cancel the contract within 72 hours of signing, which is law. When the installer arrived a week or so later, he asked for the paperwork, and it was at that time we discovered that we were never given the contract. He had to drive back to the office to retrieve the contract in order to determine what he needed to install. When I had to relocate a few months later, I called the salesman and he told me that we would have to pay out to the end of the 3-year contract (more than $1,000) to terminate the contract. Had I known, I would never have signed the contract in the first place. His agenda was simply to make the sale at all costs. I was furious.The salesman begged me not to contact his boss in fear he would lose his job. He suggested that he personally would pay part of the termination fee, which seemed very desperate and unprofessional to me. Next, I called his boss and the regional manager. I got no where. So now I was stuck in a three-year commitment to ADT. Here's the best part. I relocated to Florida and when I went to re-activate the account (since they wouldn't let me out of the contract, they agreed to put service on hold for a month or two until I moved into a new residence), I was told that the contract went back to day one, starting the three-year commitment cycle all over once again. Yes, I was told, every time you move to a new residence, the contract reverts back to day one. Well, you can just imagine how I accepted that news. Now they are trying to get me to pay out to the end of the contract and have turned it over to collection which will stain my credit for non-payment. After all the lies and deceit I was fed in Wisconsin by their salesman and managers and the extremely poor service quality by which I was treated in trying to address this problem with ADT directly, would anyone with a sense of dignity and even a few brain cells simply surrender to such despicable conduct in their business practices? Hopefully reading my story will save you from having the same pain and misfortune. Avoid ADT at all costs. I certainly will NEVER do business with them again. read more

He wasn't trying to make a quick buck and helped problem solve the best solutions for our unique situation as Deaf people and our detached garage. Cannot highlight the technicians we've worked with enough! The people on the phone however seemed to be more interested in making a quick buck. AVOID!!! Started monitoring my business in 2012 using all ready existing equipment. Bottom line, my place got broken into twice where the crook walked around for over an hour and cleaned the place out before the motion detector went off. I had it all on video. Both times, they had a tech come out and check the system. The first time, he changed the motion detector. That did not help any, as the second break in proved. This all happened in late of 2013. I moved onto another alarm company, Bay Alarm, who has been outstanding. Still, for some reason, I was in a 2 year contract with ADT. I complained because they never did initially install equipment. They were just taking over their existing equipment. I bit the bullet and paid for the service for one more year until the contract was over and then I cancelled. 5 months after cancelling(that process took 3 repeat calls), I receive a notice from a collection agency about a balance due. This is after my insurance rates have skyrocketed because of the robberies and I had made a couple of calls to ADT billing and they told me to disregard the bal dues. Now, they are telling me that they are waiving the Bal Due and contacting the collection agency to take me off collections. Honestly, I don't trust that will happen. It appears that I am headed for a bad mark on my credit report over a small bal due, which ADT has not earned. Shame on me for not shopping these services correctly. When signing up with ADT I was promised a $100 prepaid gift card. When all was said and done, you have to send a Money Order for $4.95 and your contract to a third party company to receive the gift card. I was told up to 6 weeks for delivery and here we are 8+ weeks later and have yet to recieve anything. I have reached out to Mpell (the third party company) and have been told it would be another 14 days, meaning they had no intention of sending me my gift card!! I have looked up reviews of this company and turns out it that this is a trend of theirs. This run around makes me want to just cancel ADT all together. I do not like the shadyness and hassle! read more

I don't even want to give them one star!! Yelp, you need to allow a no-star rating . ADT is the WORST of the WORST!! I have had more problems with this company. I started using them when I bought my first house in 2018. I still use them now, since I bought my 3rd home. The only reason I continued with them is because otherwise I would have to pay the hefty cancellation charge. My monthly price almost doubled because I added the doorbell feature and camera feature. Well that wasn't worth it as it stopped working after just a few months...a battery they said. Charged me for that (really)? Shouldn't that be something included in the monthly cost?). So that fixed the doorbell but not the camera. When I called today, i was switched to three different "account specialists" who were no help at all. The third one was quite rude and said that I wasn't explaining myself very well!! He sounded like he was talking into a paper bag!!! Also, in order to figure out the issue I am required to have a computer and do it myself. Not everyone has a computer! I don't need one, as my iPhone meets my needs very nicely! I told him to just cancel my account, and he informed me that if I cancel now I will owe the monthly fee ($68.58) until 2025!!!! That is ridiculous!!! We called ADT thinking it would be a fast and easy way to get our system hooked up after being burgled. WRONG! The salesman (Oscar) was prompt, coming out the next day and signing us up to have it installed the next weekend in the afternoon. We canceled dinner plans with friends thinking it may run late and were surprised to hear from the technician at 10:30am asking if he could come early. We agreed and when he arrived (Vince) you would have thought we did something awful to him. He was not happy with us for not having a land line, which we would have had but were advised 3 times (and customer service even confirmed that we didn't by calling in advance). He was mad at the salesman saying he wrote it all up wrong (when my paperwork clearly said wireless) and that he didn't have the equipment. After working to calm him, we got him to quote a new proposal (nothing in writing was given to us) and he said they would contact us as soon as possible to schedule installation, at the latest the next Saturday. Oscar the salesman called on the next Friday confirming that a technician would come out. We waited almost all day Saturday before calling ADT to be told we were scheduled for the next Saturday, which would put it 3 weeks after we had initiated getting it installed. I still need to wrangle the $25 Oakland permit fee back out of them too. We are going with FrontPoint Security and advise not to deal with this huge Walmart of non-security. If their communication sucks before we are even signed up, how is going to be after they have our money?? read more

If I could I would give no stars! ADT is the most awful company I've ever dealt with, I got a deal on the mail where I was going to get free installation and free equipment for 27.99. That was all fake, they only do it if you have a lan line and when I called for the installation they lied to me and told me I didn't need the lan line, and that they would just give me the price as is as long as I had internet. When the technician came to install it was a whole different story, he was trying to upsell me from what was free and when I said NO he started to get louder and rudder, at the end he was trying to make me sign for a plan that was 59.99 a month which wasn't what I agreed with and I wasn't aware of it, I almost finished signing when I notice the amount and I asked. From there it went downhill, they told me that whoever I spoke over the phone was lying to me and that they wouldn't be able to give me what they had told me over the phone. At the end I said completely NO and they left holes on the wall (where they installed the box before any consent) and they also left a mess (didn't clean after the mess they made). Overall they're liars and conmen, wouldn't recommend at all. read more

DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME & MONEY ON ADT!!!! We had ADT security system installed in our home less than a year ago, and have regretted it ever since. I don't even know where to begin to describe our countless problems with this company -- from inept workers who poorly installed equipment (requiring multiple follow-up appointments to get it fixed) & who repeatedly gave us misinformation about how the system worked, to the system repeatedly tripping itself for reasons we still haven't figured out (prompting phone calls from ADT to us while we were at work), and countless more. The last straw was when we continued to receive late notices threatening legal action for a bill we had already paid (even though our bank showed that our check to ADT had been cashed, we called ADT each time we received one of these notices, we mailed in a copy of the check to ADT repeatedly, and were even told on the phone that the problem at been "resolved"). It took 8 months to finally get the situation resolved and the letters to stop. It's deeply disturbing that a company this inept and dysfunctional is actually attempting to secure people's homes and businesses. I had to give them one star since it's not possible to rate them any lower...though I would if I could. Seriously, this has been a nightmare that I wouldn't want anyone else to have to go through. read more

ADT customer service is horrible. We have been ADT customers for over 13 years. Recently, we had an issue with the sensors in our garage and 2 of the 4 security panels in our home. An ADT technician came out on December 24th to address the problems. He was professional and courteous and able to fix the issue with the sensors but was not able to repair the problems with the security panels and said they would need to be replaced. The technician indicated that he would have to order our same security panels and would be back sometime in the beginning of the year to install them. We agreed with that time frame. By surprise, on December 28th, we received an email stating that an ADT technician was on his way. It was the same technician that came on December 24th and he too stated that he was surprised that he was scheduled to come back so soon. The technician replaced our security panels with completely different panels that looked extremely old and were much larger than our original panels. I called customer service and explained that the technician indicated that the replacement panels would be the same ones. Customer service transferred me to 5 different people and I was on the phone for 2 hours only to be told that if we want the same security panels we would have to pay for an upgrade. I asked why would I have to pay for the same panels that I have had for 13 years. That's not an upgrade - I am asking for the same equipment to be replaced so that it matches the other 2 panels in my house. To make matters worse, the replacement equipment is old and does not have the same functionality as my original panels. This is a complete scam and simply unacceptable. I have never had a problem with ADT and I am just shocked and outraged with regard to their customer support. I will be looking to switch to RING. read more

WORST service EVER. We have been trying to install cameras for 5 months-YES 5 MONTHS. The sales reps are TERRIBLE. My first sales rep had zero follow up, she left the company and then our next rep, Jamie never responded to calls! Im in the midst of canceling our entire service. Agree totally with all the bad reviews!! Should have researched before i called for an appointment to discuss upgrade to my security alarm which is by Protection 1. 1. ADT charged $107.91 first on credit card for the appointment and it was explained that to be deposit only and not charged. When i get the email confirmation, the reference number i got said that i am a new customer and the appointment was for installation. What! the ref # is now my customer number and my credit card was charged. 2. When i called back to cancel after i got the email, i had to talk to the manager after on hold for 5 minutes. I told the manager, B.W. that i have an emergency and need to cancel. He tried to stop the cancellation by offering another $100 visa refund. I pleaded no because i have to eave and ask for a confirmation Number. His response, "oh, i thought you had to leave"; i just said i just need the CN, but he said there is no CN; so i asked if my credit card would be credited, he said yes. I am now skeptical and wonder if my credit card charge would be reversed. SO i will call my CC company and cancel the charge. 3. I also send ADT an email to cancel the appointment. They are supposed to reply in 24 hours. Conclusion, DO NOT SIGN UP W ADT! read more

I'm worrying. I thought they were supposed to be the best in the business. We were told we had to have an upgrade to the cell. We made an appt for that, we thought, and a salesman showed up to talk about video coverage. So the cell guy didn't show up for about 2 more weeks. He came in telling us how great he was, installing for banks, etc. He was here for 3 hours. It was only supposed to take an hour. It was late, after 5, he said he didn't care because he was union and getting overtime. He didn't leave until after 8. He wanted to do more work, but my husband told him it was time to go. After he left, our alarm went off three times, falsely, in the middle of the night. We had to turn it off and not have security coverage. I called the next day and said it didn't work and we couldn't alarm our home because the thing kept going off when there was no intrusion. They told me it would be two weeks before someone could come. I had to go out of town in a couple of days. Our home would be without coverage while I was gone! My husband called and demanded quicker service. A guy came out in 3 days. He said that the guy who came before had messed up the wires, but after this second guy left, we still kept getting open door codes and false alarms going off in the night. The thing has never worked since they insisted to replace the cell. It just went off again falsely 30 minutes ago. My husband called and they said there was nothing wrong! The gal on the phone said if it goes off again, to call them and they will send out a tech. In another two weeks? This is crazy. We never had any problems before they said they had to change our cell. This has been going on for 6 weeks. The first lady I talked to after the first visit told me she'd credit us 20 bucks. ???? If someone breaks in here, we'll be out more than 20 bucks! This is crappy service and I have lost trust in that we are not being monitored at all because we can't turn it on. And the door alarms keep going off even when we don't have it armed. The thing is so screwed up I can't turn it on when I leave because I think a false alarm will go off when I'm gone. I'm going to have to find another security service. ADT has gone downhill. I don't trust them anymore and we've used them for more than 20 years. Account person came out on 1/29/19 to address numerous issues with our business system. Said he would get back with me in a week. Sent 2 follow up emails no response. Contacted ADT and asked to speak to a manager who called and left a message at noon on 3/12/19. I have called three times trying to reach him, no response. Our contract ends may 2020 and we will be looking at ways to secure our property other than ADT. Sad way to run a business. read more

Unfortunately, I was not truly aware of how terrible this company was when my wife signed up with them. It has been one of the most frustrating experiences and it only got worse. Recently all my cameras stopped recording and when we called about it we were directed to the website and told that the agent couldn't do anything about it. I don't own a computer and accessing anything from my phone is frustrating enough. Apparently, there is a limit on how much can be recorded, so without warning all recordings stopped. We were not informed of this when installation occured. How do you put a limit on recordings? If I were assaulted on my property or if someone were casing my house in plan sight, there would be no evidence unless the alarm was going off. In addition to that, access to the cameras are very slow. The doorbell would ring and the feed would show about 3 minutes later, long after whoever pressed the bell was gone. Camera set up of recordings to exclude passing vehicles doesn't work either, so I guarantee most of my limited recordings came from passing vehicles. This company does not make me or my family feel safe and as of May 2022, whenever a bad review is added to the app, it is promptly removed making it seem as if they are a good company. Where is the integrity? I had switched from Vivint to ADT and I wholly regret it, but unfortunately it is too pricey to break contract, which is BS. They may have been around for a hundred years, but their integrity is next to nothing. You just cannot trust companies anymore. They are all about their profit and looking like they are the best when they are certainly not providing the best. I am so disappointed. read more

I called both the office and the national office prior to my appointment and confirmed everything. Tech didn't show up. If I could give NEGATIVE stars, I would. After two years of crappy service, I pulled the plug on ADT as soon as I was out of contract. The agent with whom I spoke said they'd credit me for the remainder of the final month. ADT erroneously processed the credit TWICE (posted to my credit card and sent a check via postal mail) and now they're putting the BURDEN of fixing THEIR error on ME. Since I didn't cash the check, I asked ADT to cancel it. They just informed they can't (won't???) and told me I either need to mail back the check that they erroneously issued (SO LAME!) or I need to mail them some other form of payment. If you want sloppy installation, crappy defective equipment, incompetent billing department, and very unfriendly customer policies, sign up for ADT. You'll love them. If not, do yourself a favor and avoid ADT. I switched to The Alarm Company and the difference in service level is night and day and the cost is comparable. read more

We got ADT September 2011 after our home was broken into. My mom's fear was of another break in, she didn't feel safe in our house, she was terrified to leave the house without each room locked up etc. ADT sent out 2 installers to our house, and charged us a fee of 100. The installers told us our house is only 70% secure, and that we needed to spend 600 for more alarms. They put a large hole in my living room wall, only to tell us they can't put the system there after all. They made me run to Home Depot to buy a drill bit for them to use. The put screw holes all over the kitchen wall, only to determine they can't have the battery system there. Then we moved it to my hallway. They didn't want to install the panel center on the 24in space of wall we have. Instead they jam it up against the door paneling. They ran wires all over the walls, drilled 4 separate holes then only used one of them to use one of them. These guys did not know what they were doing! They admitted to not being qualified for the install. At first, my alarm system worked great. We even got the phone calls we were supposed to get when the alarm goes off. Since January 2012, our alarm system has had problems. The key fob does not work, changed the battery and it still wont work. ADT does not call when the alarm goes off. We had another break in, the culprit got spooked and ran away, but the point is, the alarm went off for 10 min and ADT did nothing. We got home and found the door open and alarm blaring. We started complaining, several phone calls later, poor customer service, leaving us on hold for 45 min etc. We finally got someone to schedule us an apt. Then they didnt show up! Called the next day furious! They told us that we were not very important because they had power outages up north, and that we would be checked up on when they had time. Our service went out completely June 1, 2012. It turned back on June 5, 2012. ADT didn't even call to see what was wrong. The panel just stopped working on us. Turns out the transformer blew. We then found out from calling that we have service, meaning they will come out and fix the problem for $25. We were NEVER told this. They sent some1 out to repair our system, he only spent 10 min with me, changed the battery and left. He told me that he's just a battery guy and he isnt qualified to actually fix the system. He told me he'd notify his supervisor and he'd leave the call open because it had a lot of problems. 3 days later we call back because now the system was saying the front door was open and wont alarm the house. They told us that our call was closed. We battled about 33 phone calls with them, and our system STILL ISNT FIXED! My house won't alarm. They told me tmrw they could possibly come out. It's July 18, my house is not alarmed yet I'm paying for service, they refuse to assist us, wont refund us or give us a credit, and still wont return phone calls. Going to discontinue the service. OH BTW: If ADT tells you your panel has to be more that 6ft away from the signal box thingy, that is a total lie! GE manufactures the alarm system. I called and asked them various questions about the alarm, and several GE people told us that they had never heard of the panel needing to be 6ft away from the other system. So if ADT tells you thats the problem, they are full of shit. All ADT has done was blame other departments, faulty set up etc. No one wants to fix the system. On the plus side, I hear Brinks is really good! Going to look into them read more

Recently I became a new ADT customer because I won a 6 month free trial. So far, I'm extremely unsatisfied. To start off with, my installation appointment got mixed up. I was booked in on a Tuesday from 9am-11am and they didn't get back to me until after 12 that day saying they mixed my appointment up with someone else. So they rebooked me for Wednesday at 11am which was fine. On Wednesday, I waited for over an hour because they were late. All of my information was miscommunicated and the lady ended up going to the wrong address. I was patient up until this time because I figured both incidences were probably just innocent mistakes. So the lady arrived here at 12, and what was supposed to be a 2 hour appointment ended up being a 5 hour appointment. She was missing some things that were promised to me in the package (motion sensors and an exterior camera) so she had to return back to the store multiple times to get the supplies. She came back still with no outdoor camera but gave me an indoor camera for the time being. They were sold out of the exterior ones, but she promised she'd be back when the exterior ones were stocked up again. During the installation, the woman kept leaving to go outside for smoke breaks and make phone calls, which was time consuming. I had to give her my own batteries for the equipment because she didn't have any but promised they would be replaced (which they weren't). She was standing on my bedding wearing her OUTDOOR shoes while she installed the motion sensors. She used my laptop more than once while I was trying to use it to study for an exam the next day, instead of using her own phone. So 5 hours had passed, and what I have set up is a hallway motion sensor, 2 window sensors, a door sensor, plus an indoor camera that was just left on the counter because she said she would be back with the proper outdoor camera to swap them out the next day. So I texted her the next day asking when she would be available and the reply I got was "actually I need one day off" and said I could text her Sunday because she would be able to come back that day. And that was the last I ever heard from her again despite multiple texts and calls trying to get a hold of her about when she would be back with the outdoor camera. So some time had passed and I ended up calling the 1-800 number but was redirected to multiple people which didn't resolve anything. I eventually called a different employee in the city, who asked me if I could text him my information and he would get back to me because he was driving. I thought my problem would be solved so I texted him all my information, I waited, and again no response. So I called him back a few hours later, then again the next day. And once again, no one got back to me despite multiple attempts. The same situation happened with my boyfriend (he won the exact same package I did because we entered the same raffle at an event). My boyfriend had booked in for his installation the day before me, but they never showed up. He then re booked the appointment and once again they never showed up. He called an employee and got told that "He was in a meeting and he would call him back", but never did. At this point, the hassle is not worth it to me. I 100% would not recommend. read more

I think highly of ADT, but definitely not this office. The sales guy, John Farhang, made a good pitch and we bought a basic system on a Monday. However, when the installation guy shows up on Friday, he cannot complete the installation because the sales guy hasn't turned in all the papers yet. Next Monday, nobody is assigned for the installation yet, and there are no calls from ADT either. The sales guy has stopped picking up the phone and there is no attempt of anyone following up either. I have had ADT for 15 years. When I moved over six years ago, although I was not satisfied with the service for the price, I was told that I would owe a substantial service fee to disconnect, so I did the transfer which was supposed to be free only to be hit with over $500 in fees. At the end of the contract, I called to cancel and was seduced into a $20/mo. program. I ended up not using the system, but the system was not through with me and ended up setting off the alarm at 1:30 AM. I called the company, but never got through. I finally had to cut the power cord to stop the alarm. Of interest, even though the alarm was going off, never got a call from ADT. I called ADT about the problem with their equipment and they told me that there would be a $200 service charge. No way! It took me $350 and an entire morning to cut the cord with ADT. Feeling good about it. To me, ADT are the real criminals that we need to avoid. read more

Worst customer service. They even can't answer basic questions about the service, without getting your name and exact address (I suppose to start sending ads to you). They tried to say that exact address is needed for quotes, but I didn't ask for quotes and I was willing to provide address of the house nearby, but was asked for my address. Worst company ever. My daughter signed up with them for security for her apartment. Then not too long afterward she moved home, transferring her ADT to our address because even though we didn't need it, she had signed a 3 year contract. No one informed us that the 3 year contract starts over when you move, we didn't find that out until we wanted to move it to her new apartment 18 months later and could not do so without initiating a new 3 year contract. By then we already had had the experience of them double-charging us for almost a year before we could get them to stop. Once they stopped, then they claimed they couldn't find evidence that they had done so. We assumed that they were charging us for both our address and my daughter's previous address, but when it was finally sorted out nearly a year later after many hours on the phone, emails, and printouts of our credit card charges , they said actually they were charging us twice at the same address for reasons unknown. We did finally get reimbursed, but that still required more emails and telephone calls. Then we just waited for the 3 year contract to end, while my daughter sensibly went with a different, much cheaper, no contract company at her new apartment. Three months before the contract ended and every month afterward, I called to let them know that we would be terminating the contract at the earliest opportunity, yet they continued to charge us for three months after they told me the account had been closed. Every time I would call up, get re-assured that our contract was closed and we would get re-funded, and the next month they would charge us again. I finally terminated that debit card. Do NOT sign up with them, unless you like spending your life arguing on the phone and getting charged for services you neither asked for nor received. ADT customer service sucks, after having a problem, and needing service , I called and after waiting on the phone for 25 minutes, it was a two week wait for a tech to come and look at my equipment. If I were asking them to install a new system they would have been here the same day. Will find another company read more

Honestly, a nightmare. The service you get is someone to call the cops if an alarm goes off. For that you will pay nearly $60 a month. That is for the basic service. No bells. No whistles. No cameras. Just an alarm key pad, a keychain remote, and some sensors. I had a glass break sensor that was set so sensitive it went off if you dropped something on the counter. The batteries died in some sensors and they sent me the wrong replacement batteries. Then tried to charge me for a service visit when they couldn't understand why I couldn't change the batteries myself. I had to call to get the charge reversed and they were salty about it. In fact every time I called they were mostly put off that they had to deal with a customer. I finally got to the end of the contract and called to cancel the service in January 2020. I was told that the service would be cancelled at the end of the billing cycle (last day of February) and I would not be charged again. Oh - but in February 2020 I was charged again. I called and they acknowledged the service was cancelled and told me the refund would be put back on my card within 10 days. It wasn't. I called again and was told they couldn't put it back on my card and now had to mail a check that would take up to 25 days. It has been 29 days since that date and I still don't have a refund. I called AGAIN and was told it usually takes months. Yes, months. I would not recommend ADT. Do some research and find a different company. Not worth the long contracts, high prices, old technology, or poor customer service. (BTW I have since installed Simplisafe and couldn't be happier not only with the service and pricing but with the technology.) read more

ADT is a fraudulent company abusing elder by promising services and not delivering. the Seles person, described and charged me for extras that were not delivered by the installer. To compensate me the installer gave me 2 months free service, that also did not happen. Costumer service was rude sarcastic, I feel that they are trained by ADT to do that. The "new" panels are not activating to arm the system !!! After activating the system gets deactivated at random. giving them 1 star on Yelp is an overstatement. For all that give them 5 stars, watch out , your home is not protected !!! read more

Recently installed in our business....local tech was great! Called for support and was snarky, short and rude..(Lexis) The call was useless. I was going by what the tech had said to do. It was a battery issue and she said it was $32 or I could go the store and get one. I asked her how to open the panel to replace it and she says, Its a black box that should say ADT on it in more depth than that sounding like I am a moron. I said thank you and good bye and called the tech. Its an all in one command panel which is not black and needs to be changed by a tech. She never even asked questions to figure that out....... read more

I am completely dissatisfied with ADT (formerly Protection 1) for a number of reasons. I don't believe they are truly concerned about their customers, and are more interested in making a few extra dollars than keeping lifelong customers. We signed up for Protection 1 quite a few years ago. Although I have been emailed a contract (signed by me many years ago), I still find it hard to believe that I signed a contract for 5 years. Being in the military and moving around so often, I have never agreed to have long contracts for anything. So I'm not sure how the original salesman pulled that one off. But hey, I signed it apparently, so that one's on me. Anyway, we were looking to discontinue service to tighten up finances, when I was notified I would owe a $750 cancellation fee. That payment defeated the purpose of cancelling, so we looked at other avenues. A few years back when we were having issues with our system, I spoke with a customer service representative who reminded me to view my local law enforcement's alarm system policies. I didn't think much of it at the time, but finally started digging around. I found out that our local jurisdiction requires "confirmed" alarms in order for law enforcement to be dispatched. Turns out this is the case for most jurisdictions. But our local county ordinance states that activated alarms can be confirmed by any one of four means: 1) verbal confirmation of alarm or crime in progress from the account owner, 2) visual confirmation from alarm company via video, 3) more than one alarm zone activated, or 4) more than one individual alarm activated. We don't have video services, and we don't have multiple zones. So the only way to confirm our alarms is by getting in touch with us (if there's a crime in progress, getting in touch with the homeowner is not often possible), or if the criminal activates more than one alarm. This would mean the criminal would have to enter and exit through different means of entry, which is contrary to all known data and statistics about criminal behavior. We do have a motion sensor, originally installed. But we've always had pets, so the motion sensor can't be left on anyway and was never part of our original alarm design or contract. Thus, I just came to the realization that I have been paying for an alarm service for nearly 6 years, that would NEVER have actually provided for my family's safety or security. I even spoke with our county sheriff's security alarm program manager and they confirmed the sheriff's office would not respond unless they had one of those four conditions. All this information was provided to Protection 1 / ADT, along with the county ordinance that outlines what I already described above. Unfortunately, ADT would not compromise on the cancellation fee at all. Nor would they negotiate on providing video services or any other means by which to increase the ability to "confirm" activated alarms. Despite being a loyal customer and all the time and energy spent with ADT trying to deal with this, they are willing to lose a customer for life. I'm also incredibly confused because I had already fulfilled my 5 year contract (the contract on file at ADT that was provided to me via email) as of September 2018. Not sure why I would owe $750. This may be just another example of greedy America taking advantage of anyone too stupid to know otherwise. Reading all these other reviews of ADT makes me pretty disgusted and I'm realizing my folly. Don't be misled. Not only does ADT appear to be swindling it's way through it's customers, but it also appears to claim to provide services it can't actually provide. read more

Horrible after sales service. They just want to get you sign up and will not return any calls after you've signed up. Sales person lied when he told me that I can cancel my service without any penalties within 6 months if I'm not happy. I called ADT and was told that's wrong. He also kept saying that ADT will buy Broadview so don't go with Broadview. I couldn't get anyone to return my calls - even the manager. They will ignore your calls after you sign up with them. I called the sales rep and his manager a total of 8 times without a single call back. Don't do business with these folks. Just checked the BBB website, this branch has a BBB rating of F - enough said. read more
