DO NOT USE ADT FOR HOME SECURITY unless you don't mind the following frustrations: Unexplained fees Unexpected charges Misrepresented services I used ADT for 2 years and then i had to move to another state. Because I decided not to continue in the new state, I was slapped with a $428.04 charge of disconnection fee. When I challenged the fees through customer service, they hung up on me multiple times. As a last resort, I wrote a letter to the corporate office to no avail. it has been a year and I have yet to hear from them. The bill was eventually sent to collections. Let me start off by saying that I am a long-time ADT customer for over 30 years. I recently had a sales rep come out to my mom's house to speak with us about replacing her system with ADT. PLEASE STAY AWAY FROM THE SALES REP EVIAN ARCHERO. He will come across as this nice long-time employee of ADT. Talk about a nice game and how involved he is with his church etc. We had a meeting scheduled and Evian was late. Once he arrived I let him know I was a long-time customer and I was referring him to my mom. We reviewed my house and he started to put a proposal together. I had to get to a work meeting so I asked him to leave the proposal with my mom and I will reach out to him on how we wanted to proceed. The meeting was a on Friday and I told him I will call him Monday. After I left he stayed for another two hours and pressured my mom with one thing after another. My mom is 80 years old. He told my mom a lot of things that turned out not to be true. He added a lot of extra stuff to the proposal that she did not need. He scheduled the installationation for the next morning and my guess is that he wanted to install it before I had a chance to review it. I have made several calls to ADT to try and get to a district manager. It took me 4 calls and about 5 hours of my time. Each time I called I would be told someone would call me back. It took two weeks before someone called me back. I went over the items that were added to my mom's bill and he removed them. I was first told that someone would be out to remove them from my house then I was told they would just remove them from the bill and she can keep the items. The one issue is that the rep sold my two keypads why she would ever need two keypads when she has the app is another question. The one keypad now lights up and says standby and does not work. Now I will have to make another 5 calls to get this fixed. My mom's billing is not correct and the way she is set up is not what the rep told her how it would be set up. The rep never put me down as the referral and now I am being told that since he did not put me down that I will not get the $200 referral fee that ADT pays when you refer a customer. That is crazy especially since I have been a customer for 30 years!!! So if you call ADT and you have EVIAN ARCHERO show up run away and don't let him in your house. read more

Charged for months of monitoring that was never hooked up, and then refused to issue a credit. Very unethical and bad business practices! And they refuse to involve a supervisor! And to add to all that, the system is not loud and the reacts too slowly to the code when entered. read more

At the time you cancel your service (due to moving in our case) we were served with a "30 day notice" requirement. They offer an extensive period to get your to sign up for service at the new address, but it still feels to me a low ball, small print, gotcha. Besides, their service has lots of room for improvement. Programming interface is 20 years old. Devices communicate on a network that often had interruptions and is fundamentally flawed. They may have a big name, but their service doesn't match it. read more

Horrible, horrible company! I have a long list of non-existing service by this terrible company. I filed a complaint with BBB but ADT does not bother to reply to complaints, many thousands of them. I have a Non-functioning Fire Detector though I pay for Fire Detector Monitoring. I live in a fire brush area and not having a working Fire Detector Monitoring is extremely troublesome but not for ADT. I am also paying a monthly fee for the Extended Service Protection (covers the repair or replacement costs of the equipment maintenance) but to get a technician to come is impossible. I had to wait for an appointment to fix the Fire Detector for over two weeks. To get an earlier appointment ADT wanted to charge me for a technician time PER MINUTE though they happily collect my Extended Service Protection monthly fee. Their technician was supposed to come 1-5 pm but ADT called at 2 pm that same day to cancel. I have an on-going low-battery problem with one of the doors but last visit from ADT technician was useless: instead of replacing a faulty sensor, he just replaced a battery. I measured the battery after he left and the battery was fine. Shortly after that a low-battery warning came back again. Since ADT ignores BBB, I found out that there is a better org to complain about ADT: Department of Consumer Affairs, Bureau of Security and Investigative Services: to file a complaint online: www.bsis.ca.gov to call: (800) 952-5210 or (916) 322-4000 An assigned Complaint Resolution Analyst will contact the company and work on your behalf. I hope that this information helps someone. I sold my home in Rhode Island on February 25th. I received a call from a representative who saw my home listed and offered to transfer my service to my new residence. I declined and asked him to cancel my service as of February 25th. I am on autopay. He said he would take care of it. In March my checking account was debited for my monthly payment. I called and was advised that the cancelation had not occurred and that it would take 30 days from the March date for cancelation to take place!!!! It didn't take 30 days to get it installed!!! Now it's April 25th and again my checking account was debited for the $47 monthly fee!!! Phoned again. Spoke to rep who said the cancelation was in process?!?! Asked for supervisor and she transferred me back into the call queue!!!! I am furious!!!! I am now on hold again, listening to how important I am and how great ADT is!! read more

If I could give negative numbers I would. This is the worst home automation system there is. I would not refer anyone and I mean anyone to go thru dealings with ADT. What a joke these people are. We have thermostat issues and they send a "tech" out that knows nothing about thermostats. It is ADTs freaking thermostat. What a joke. Oh then they try to fix a auto bulb and can't get that to work. Oh and the lock they tried to fix still does not work. Don't waste your time or money with these clowns. Visit 4 update: these people continue to amaze me. They needed at least three visits to fix the same issue to honor the money back offer. We've been generally satisfied with ADT for the past 13 years. However we recently moved so my husband called sometime in November to cancel the service effective December 1. When we noticed an auto pay come through our credit card today (Dec 26th) for the month of January, I called. It turned out the service hadn't been effectively cancelled. I understood and was willing to let the December payment go, it was partially our fault for not noticing earlier. But I was beside myself to learn today, it would take ADT 30 days to cancel our service. Don't they have a computer system? How can it possibly take 30 days to cancel the service. When I complained to the customer service agent, he said, that's the way it works. Seems like a pretty good way to squeeze an additional month out of a customer trying to end the relationship. read more

They won't call with any issues. When your card expires, and you try to call with an updated card, they'll run you through a 15-minute verification process, using foreigners in a remote call center, so NOBODY will know what is being said (at either end of the call). I was hesitant on getting ADT but now im just disgusted on what they did. when talking to salesman about everything I wanted I was told $800 with discounts for outstanding balance and I look 2 months later and my outstanding balance is $1420. The communication with customer service is terrible, I was on phone looking at documents I signed while on phone and customer service and just giving me nonsense info that was never said at installment or talking to salesman. I would NOT recommend ADT to family and friends to be lied to about pricing and all that. I only give 2 stars due to sercurity system works great and the installer was great but other then that ADT customer service and all that are a joke. Very disappointed in being lied to and almost double charged. Only way out of contract is paying your way out. It would be better to just buy a security system without contract. read more

I was offline for over 10 years and did not know it. They do not care about your security, as they do not check to see if you are connected EVER. It is all your responsibility though you pay them every month if the system is working or not. If you have dropped your landline, please make sure you have gotten a cell signal option from them. If you have a code "FC" showing on your keypad it means that there isn't a connection to ADT and NO ONE is coming to help you when the alarm goes off. I talked to 2 supervisors who seemed understanding but confined by company policies. I can't believe that in this day and age, the company does not check at least once a month to ensure that the systems are working and let you know if they are not. It isn't very ethical to me, but they are very aware that they are covered by their contract, which makes it the owner's job to test the system and not ADT read more

I have been a customer of Adt for 28 years, three months ago after selling our home, I attempted to close my account, when I noticed that I was still getting charged, I called back to find that neither had my account been closed nor had there been any notation of my call. I was on the phone with 5 people for 1 hour and 15 minutes. They refused To give me a confirmation number or email. I just tried again. I'll call my credit card company to have charges blocked now. This system is absolutely worthless. I had the system for almost a year . My house was broken into several times. I installed ring cameras to watch the door and a room inside. on 3 different accuracies, the ring camera alerted me I called the police, watched the person steal what ever he could and walk out the door before ADT ever called me. Now that I am selling the house they want me to pay $2000 to get out of the contract. For what? I got no value out of this at all. I have sent an email to the address in response to this post. Would give 0 stars if I could. Purchased a home 6 months ago where prior owners had service. We advised we were not interested in continuing. The system still makes horrible noise when we try and remove the sensors from doors and windows. ADT will not look up the prior owners account to confirm that it is shut off and help with how to remove these items. They will not even look up the address to confirm that the service is not active. read more

My experience with ADT has gone from very bad to frustrated beyond belief. I wrote a 1-star review in January, after cancelling the service, about how bad the Service was, due to the flaky and unreliable and expensive system I bought from them. Since that time, I have had four phone calls, spending well over an hour, maybe two, trying to cancel my service, with ADT continuing to try to bill me and refusing, despite several requests with three different ADT representatives, to provide me written confirmation of the cancellation. I had to contact my bank to put a stop payment on their automatic payment system because they tried to charge my bank account after I cancelled my subscription. Despite having cancelled in January, I still have no actual confirmation that my service is cancelled. I used to think Comcast was the worst company to do business with. There is a new king, ADT is the WORST company I have ever had to deal with. Obviously, I cannot know this since I don't work there, but in light of my experiences and the other reviews here, it does seem like ADT has a clear policy to make it as difficult as possible for you to cancel and stop paying them. read more

Just had a bad experience with ADT. Do not use them! Tenants in the home that I own, passed away. The tenants had ADT system installed. The system continually beeps, so I asked ADT to come out to fix the beeping. I was willing to pay for them to come out. I was told that the only way that someone would come out was that if I would buy a monitoring system with them right now. I explained that I am selling the house and did not need, a monitoring system at this time. I just needed them to fix and or remove their current beeping alarm. I was told that I would have to hire someone else to fix the problem of their equipment. I stressed to him that their attitude towards an existing customer was not a good way to get my business...so I will say to you, think twice, maybe three times, before buying into their security system. Customer service means absolutely nothing to them, just your money! That company deserves NO STARS, but the review will not let me remove the one star. Signed run from ADT! First, they told me I'd have a 2 yr. contract, but then applied 3 yrs. I inquired about additional equipment and was charged $1300 in spite of telling them I was not moving forward, because they wanted to restart my contract. I was told they would refund my money in 5 business days, but instead they placed a credit on my account and used the funds to pay a monthly charge. Only after threatening legal action did they agree to refund my money. Don't do it! Not worth the hassle and customer service is horrible! read more

During my last review I noted that I try not to give a 1 or a 5 review as it gives no room for improvement. Well today, after receiving another email, I am giving ADT a 1. Even though I have have spent 16 hours, on both hold and conversation time, with ADT customer service the results are as follows. 1. Rachel: after being hung up on after waiting 1hour and 7 minutes, Rachel did call back 4 hours later to say that she found my credit and it would be applied to my account within 24 hours, this is now 4 days and 4 calls ago. 2. This call was picked up after 42 minutes of waiting and then after another 1.5 hours was told that if I paid right then that once they found the credit they would send it back. I asked, at that point, to speak to a supervisor but was told that they were busy and would call back within 24 hours, that was 3 days ago. 3. Got another call say that we were later on our payment, again we went through the entire drill, asking them to at least read the notes before calling us. After reading and apologizing, indicating that they would take care of it and that a supervisor would call within 24 hours and that no money was due we hung up. 4. Today, February 1st I get another email saying I am late. At this point I consider this harassment. I have contacted another service, yes you can change monitoring service and retain your existing ADT equipment, note you will save a ton of money. I asked to cancel on March 17th. They, of course could not handle the transaction and that I had to speak to the cancellation department. I am on hold, as I type this, for 22 minutes, so far. Worst experience ever. Terrible customer service and the cameras never function. Technicians are clueless and the service online is no help. I've had problems with the cameras buffering and they lock you in to these year contracts and if you cancel, they charge 70 percent of whats left of the contract. This company robs you of funds and quite honestly I think they know it. I would highly recommend that you DON'T us ADT. Very unsatified customer. This company Should have minus zero stars, I've missed work on many of occasions waiting for technicians and problems still not resovled. And when the cameras are finally working, they go out a month later and the cycle of them getting back to me or scheduling them to come out is a headache. I have had Ackerman which was purchased by adt. During that time, I've tried to call both companies on the phone as they forgot to arm one door. After many calls I was finally able to talk to a human being after being on hold 37 minutes.. I explained to them that that was unacceptable that I could not be on hold for security company for that length of time and I wanted to avoid my contract. They said that I could not stop my contract. Then they sent me a bill for over $500. Mind you, I've had their service for one month and they didn't do any installation as it was already installed in the house. If you enjoy being on hold and not talking to a human being, then this company is for you. read more

I cancelled with them on 4/22/22 after using 15 years. I confirmed the service was completley cancelled on 5/22/22. They billed me final bill $19.72 (5/15/22-5/22/22) plus $209.60 (5/15/22-8/15/22). So I contacted them several times about this matter. All they can say I have to pay for 3 month services which is non-existing service. read more

Extremely bad customer service. Worst ever, on multiple occasions. I have been struggling for a month to simply move my ADT subscription from one address to another. Waiting time on the line is over 30 minutes and when I wait until I talk to a representative, they hang up the line before solving the problem without a call back. If I try to chat, they take too long to respond, and they end the conversation without solving the problem. Be aware of ADT monitoring company which should be avoided. Be aware once you cancel your account, they still charge you for another month if you did not cancel 30 days in advance. So cancel 30 days in advance even if you have no contract. They then bug you for payment otherwise they will send it to a collection agency. They were going to charge an arm and a leg to replace wireless sensors in new windows and update the system. The sensors cost double what it costs on Amazon, but they would not allow us to purchase it ourselves. Their basic monitoring monthly charge was double what we found now. Found a way better alternative to them with Central Security at 512-610-2698 who has great prices on updating systems and also monthly monitoring. read more

I would straight up prefer my house were broken into; at least that would be an honest criminal and financially i'd be out less thanks to insurance. System does not work, you will spend hours trying to get through to "customer service", and when you finally do, it will be worthless. You cannot get out of your contract (the 6 month thing is a joke, no one realizes they have a problem that soon, and they know that which is exactly why that red herring is there). You will throw away thousands, for the great frustration and head banging agony of dealing with these double talking clowns. Worst company!!! I was with them for 5 years, never had a late payment!!! I decided to cancel ADT in November for 2019 and get another company instead, so the rep on the phone told me to try out that company for 3 months and she won't charge me for keeping ADT on hold for 3 months so I can make sure I'm happy with that other company. It made sense to me so I agreed. 2 months later I saw they were still charging me for the last 2 months and when I called to tell them what the rep had promised me, they refused to believe me, they said we only give one month for free and not 3 when that rep clearly told me "THREE." They were extremely rude, completely had the attitude like they don't care! I can say it was the worst customer service i have ever received! Then they told me that they will review the call by pulling it up, they will listen to that call and get back to me in 72 hours. 2 weeks later when no one called me, I reached out to them and they pulled up the call and the rep promised 2 months. I refused to believe because I had written it down on a notepad when she promised me 3 months. I said I want to listen to that call for I am 100% certain she said 3 months. Then they told me to get a lawyer for we won't let you hear that call without your attorney! I was cheated to keep ADT when i clearly called to cancel! Their reps are not trained to care how people feel, they are bluntly rude! They're probably only nice when you first call them to sign up! I am a real estate agent, I sell a lot of homes, I will make sure none of my clients ever use ADT. It's not about the money, it's about the principal that this company completely tricked me and cheated me to earn a little more money!!!!! read more

Horrible service been back and forth with adt about a glass break sensor for the last month. They tell me they are sending a tech out he never comes. They say they will send a new sensor out for free since this been an ongoing issue. They never send it. I called today and they say now I have to pay for the sensor. Canceling my service tomorrow.
