We've been generally satisfied with ADT for the past 13 years. However we recently moved so my husband called sometime in November to cancel the service effective December 1. When we noticed an auto pay come through our credit card today (Dec 26th) for the month of January, I called. It turned out the service hadn't been effectively cancelled. I understood and was willing to let the December payment go, it was partially our fault for not noticing earlier. But I was beside myself to learn today, it would take ADT 30 days to cancel our service. Don't they have a computer system? How can it possibly take 30 days to cancel the service. When I complained to the customer service agent, he said, that's the way it works. When your card expires, and you try to call with an updated card, they'll run you through a 15-minute verification process, using foreigners in a remote call center, so NOBODY will know what is being said (at either end of the call). It doesn't get worse. You'll spend an insane amount of money and the equipment -- which is always 5-10 years behind everyone else -- won't work. And, when you're so fed up with the system and finally decide to remove the the system and purchase a cheaper/modern security system, you'll realize that the installers glued everything onto your wall/doors/windows and you'll need to spend an additional $500 just to make repairs. I was hesitant on getting ADT but now im just disgusted on what they did. when talking to salesman about everything I wanted I was told $800 with discounts for outstanding balance and I look 2 months later and my outstanding balance is $1420. The communication with customer service is terrible, I was on phone looking at documents I signed while on phone and customer service and just giving me nonsense info that was never said at installment or talking to salesman. I would NOT recommend ADT to family and friends to be lied to about pricing and all that. I only give 2 stars due to sercurity system works great and the installer was great but other then that ADT customer service and all that are a joke. I was offline for over 10 years and did not know it. They do not care about your security, as they do not check to see if you are connected EVER. It is all your responsibility though you pay them every month if the system is working or not. If you have dropped your landline, please make sure you have gotten a cell signal option from them. If you have a code "FC" showing on your keypad it means that there isn't a connection to ADT and NO ONE is coming to help you when the alarm goes off. I talked to 2 supervisors who seemed understanding but confined by company policies. I can't believe that in this day and age, the company does not check at least once a month to ensure that the systems are working and let you know if they are not. This system is absolutely worthless. I had the system for almost a year . My house was broken into several times. I installed ring cameras to watch the door and a room inside. on 3 different accuracies, the ring camera alerted me I called the police, watched the person steal what ever he could and walk out the door before ADT ever called me. Now that I am selling the house they want me to pay $2000 to get out of the contract. For what? I got no value out of this at all. I have sent an email to the address in response to this post. Would give 0 stars if I could. Purchased a home 6 months ago where prior owners had service. We advised we were not interested in continuing. The system still makes horrible noise when we try and remove the sensors from doors and windows. ADT will not look up the prior owners account to confirm that it is shut off and help with how to remove these items. Don't believe the 6 month guarantee for one minute. I contacted them many times to let them know that my car parked 20 feet in front of my house was not being captured without also capturing all of the traffic on the street. It would record hundreds of clips in just a few days. I knew that a camera would have to be installed upstairs looking down on my car to avoid the issue and was happy to pay for the additional camera, but they refused to come back out. Instead, they suggested I pay even more for unlimited clips. It's all about the money and not about customer satisfaction at all. And don't even get me started that the quote given during the never ending initial phone conversation will continue to rise once the high pressure salesman / installer is in your house. You'll also be told at the end of their very long sales pitch that if you don't agree to the installation that very minute then you'll have to start the entire lenghty process all over again with the initial phone call. Just had a bad experience with ADT. Do not use them! Tenants in the home that I own, passed away. The tenants had ADT system installed. The system continually beeps, so I asked ADT to come out to fix the beeping. I was willing to pay for them to come out. I was told that the only way that someone would come out was that if I would buy a monitoring system with them right now. I explained that I am selling the house and did not need, a monitoring system at this time. I just needed them to fix and or remove their current beeping alarm. I was told that I would have to hire someone else to fix the problem of their equipment. I stressed to him that their attitude towards an existing customer was not a good way to get my business...so I will say to you, think twice, maybe three times, before buying into their security system. First, they told me I'd have a 2 yr. contract, but then applied 3 yrs. I inquired about additional equipment and was charged $1300 in spite of telling them I was not moving forward, because they wanted to restart my contract. I was told they would refund my money in 5 business days, but instead they placed a credit on my account and used the funds to pay a monthly charge. Let me start off by saying that I am a long-time ADT customer for over 30 years. I recently had a sales rep come out to my mom's house to speak with us about replacing her system with ADT. PLEASE STAY AWAY FROM THE SALES REP EVIAN ARCHERO. He will come across as this nice long-time employee of ADT. Talk about a nice game and how involved he is with his church etc. We had a meeting scheduled and Evian was late. Once he arrived I let him know I was a long-time customer and I was referring him to my mom. We reviewed my house and he started to put a proposal together. I had to get to a work meeting so I asked him to leave the proposal with my mom and I will reach out to him on how we wanted to proceed. The meeting was a on Friday and I told him I will call him Monday. After I left he stayed for another two hours and pressured my mom with one thing after another. My mom is 80 years old. He told my mom a lot of things that turned out not to be true. He added a lot of extra stuff to the proposal that she did not need. He scheduled the installationation for the next morning and my guess is that he wanted to install it before I had a chance to review it. I have made several calls to ADT to try and get to a district manager. It took me 4 calls and about 5 hours of my time. Each time I called I would be told someone would call me back. It took two weeks before someone called me back. I went over the items that were added to my mom's bill and he removed them. I was first told that someone would be out to remove them from my house then I was told they would just remove them from the bill and she can keep the items. The one issue is that the rep sold my two keypads why she would ever need two keypads when she has the app is another question. The one keypad now lights up and says standby and does not work. Now I will have to make another 5 calls to get this fixed. My mom's billing is not correct and the way she is set up is not what the rep told her how it would be set up. The rep never put me down as the referral and now I am being told that since he did not put me down that I will not get the $200 referral fee that ADT pays when you refer a customer. That is crazy especially since I have been a customer for 30 years!!! So if you call ADT and you have EVIAN ARCHERO show up run away and don't let him in your house. read more

Horrible, horrible company! I have a long list of non-existing service by this terrible company. I filed a complaint with BBB but ADT does not bother to reply to complaints, many thousands of them. I have a Non-functioning Fire Detector though I pay for Fire Detector Monitoring. I live in a fire brush area and not having a working Fire Detector Monitoring is extremely troublesome but not for ADT. I am also paying a monthly fee for the Extended Service Protection (covers the repair or replacement costs of the equipment maintenance) but to get a technician to come is impossible. I had to wait for an appointment to fix the Fire Detector for over two weeks. To get an earlier appointment ADT wanted to charge me for a technician time PER MINUTE though they happily collect my Extended Service Protection monthly fee. Their technician was supposed to come 1-5 pm but ADT called at 2 pm that same day to cancel. I have an on-going low-battery problem with one of the doors but last visit from ADT technician was useless: instead of replacing a faulty sensor, he just replaced a battery. I measured the battery after he left and the battery was fine. Shortly after that a low-battery warning came back again. Since ADT ignores BBB, I found out that there is a better org to complain about ADT: Department of Consumer Affairs, Bureau of Security and Investigative Services: to file a complaint online: www.bsis.ca.gov to call: (800) 952-5210 or (916) 322-4000 An assigned Complaint Resolution Analyst will contact the company and work on your behalf. I sold my home in Rhode Island on February 25th. I received a call from a representative who saw my home listed and offered to transfer my service to my new residence. I declined and asked him to cancel my service as of February 25th. I am on autopay. He said he would take care of it. In March my checking account was debited for my monthly payment. I called and was advised that the cancelation had not occurred and that it would take 30 days from the March date for cancelation to take place!!!! It didn't take 30 days to get it installed!!! Now it's April 25th and again my checking account was debited for the $47 monthly fee!!! Phoned again. Spoke to rep who said the cancelation was in process?!?! Asked for supervisor and she transferred me back into the call queue!!!! I am furious!!!! I am now on hold again, listening to how important I am and how great ADT is!! read more

Be aware of ADT monitoring company which should be avoided. Be aware once you cancel your account, they still charge you for another month if you did not cancel 30 days in advance. So cancel 30 days in advance even if you have no contract. They then bug you for payment otherwise they will send it to a collection agency. They were going to charge an arm and a leg to replace wireless sensors in new windows and update the system. The sensors cost double what it costs on Amazon, but they would not allow us to purchase it ourselves. Their basic monitoring monthly charge was double what we found now. Found a way better alternative to them with Central Security at 512-610-2698 who has great prices on updating systems and also monthly monitoring. read more

I have been an ADT residential customer for approximately 11 years, and decided to terminate my service with ADT. Yesterday I spent three hours trying to accomplish this. In this day and age with all of the benefits for technology I find this completely unacceptable, and a direct reflection of ADT's lack of concern for the customer. It took four phone calls and five people to get this done. When I asked the last representative with whom I spoke to connect me to her supervisor, she informed me that only current customers would be afforded this privilege. Unacceptable and disrespectful. The final blow was being informed that I would be responsible for paying the bill for the next quarter in order to cancel my account. So, they collect my money, benefit from it for an unknown amount of time, then refund the unused money at their convenience. This is another form of theft in my opinion. I called ADT in September to cancel my account and was told by that representative that I would be assessed $700. if I canceled before December 1. I've been a customer for 10 years. I'm moving soon, and I tried to hire them to protect my new home. Over the last month, I've been promised things that weren't delivered: (we'll send a tech to your house to see if we can use the existing sensors or if you'll have to buy new ones from us). Tech never came, they sent a salesman instead who said "sign this contract you'll find out day of install if we can use them". (hint: they never can, they will always sell you new ones, don't believe it if anyone tells you differently) I've been straight up lied to: Lie #1: Me: "What is this charge on the contract?" Salesman: "It's a required additional fee because your system has so many sensors" Me: "Is there any way to remove that?" Salesman: "No" The real answer (when I read the fine print) was that the salesman had added an extended warranty (called QSP) for the sensors to my install package without asking me. I did not want this service and it was perfectly possible to remove it. This is beyond deceptive. Lie #2: Salesman: "You've been a customer for over 12 months, so you get a perfectly free video doorbell" Me: "I don't really want video, I don't want to pay any extra monthly fees" Salesman: "It is 100% free. There is literally no reason not to get it" After I read the fine print, it's a free install, but my monthly charge went from $49.99 / mo to $59.99 / mo due to adding video monitoring. I did not want this. It was not free. There was a very good reason not to get it. I called their customer service to try to straighten things out. I've been a customer for 10 years, and I actually did want service at my new home. I've never had a problem with monitoring / customer service before. I spent four hours on the phone over the last three days, from 11/19 when I realized that what I had signed wasn't what I wanted, until just last night, 11/21, when a rep from 'onboarding' told me he really wanted to earn my business and would speak to a manager and call me back. All I was trying to do was get rid of the fees for services I didn't want. (he never called back. Here's another hint. They will always half promise to help you but never put anything in writing. They want to get you out of the right of refusal period of time post signing the contract so you no longer have the right to cancel. If anyone ever tells you, 'oh the tech can adjust that the day of', just realize that at that point, you likely no longer have the right to cancel the contract when the tech says 'huh? we don't have anything to do with that, you need to speak to billing') So the contract I signed has a 3 business day right of refusal period. I decided today, I can't deal with this anymore and decided to cancel. The contract states that I can call 800.327.4348 at any time in the period and cancel. The first rep I talked to at billing said, "Oh, we can't cancel this, you have to contact the salesman who came to your home." I told him no, this legal document I have says I just need to call this number. He refused to help me and insisted I was wrong. I asked can I please speak to a manager, and he said yes, and 'transferred me'. The call immediately disconnected. I called back and spoke to a rep at account management. When I said I needed to cancel, they said they couldn't help and needed to transfer me to 'onboarding'. The call disconnected during transfer. I called back. The rep said they couldn't help and I needed to speak to technical support. The call dropped during transfer. I started panicking. It's 11/22, but if I can't get someone to accept my cancellation before my refusal period ends tomorrow at midnight will they try to charge me early termination fees for cancelling outside of the period? Very likely this is their plan? It's incredible to me. I filed a complaint on Better Business Bureau. I have yet to hear back, but I'm hoping this will resolve the issue. The sad thing is, I actually wanted their monitoring service. I've been with them for 10 years. Their salespeople are car salesman, in the worst possible sense of that term. My experience with ADT has gone from very bad to frustrated beyond belief. I wrote a 1-star review in January, after cancelling the service, about how bad the Service was, due to the flaky and unreliable and expensive system I bought from them. Since that time, I have had four phone calls, spending well over an hour, maybe two, trying to cancel my service, with ADT continuing to try to bill me and refusing, despite several requests with three different ADT representatives, to provide me written confirmation of the cancellation. I had to contact my bank to put a stop payment on their automatic payment system because they tried to charge my bank account after I cancelled my subscription. Despite having cancelled in January, I still have no actual confirmation that my service is cancelled. I used to think Comcast was the worst company to do business with. There is a new king, ADT is the WORST company I have ever had to deal with. I have had Ackerman which was purchased by adt. During that time, I've tried to call both companies on the phone as they forgot to arm one door. After many calls I was finally able to talk to a human being after being on hold 37 minutes.. I explained to them that that was unacceptable that I could not be on hold for security company for that length of time and I wanted to avoid my contract. They said that I could not stop my contract. Then they sent me a bill for over $500. Mind you, I've had their service for one month and they didn't do any installation as it was already installed in the house. HUGE regret ever signing up for ADT. Moved into a new home, ADT was already set up from the previous owners. Worked with the rep that handled their account to sign up for services, as ADT partnered with USAA and we got a discount both with ADT and our home insurance with USAA. Had a tech support issue with a device not connecting within 3 weeks. Come to find out we didn't even have the device in our home, so total waste of hours on the phone trying to solve a problem that didn't exist, not to mention the tech support rep condescended to me and treated me like I had an IQ in single digits which was so offensive to me I asked to be transferred to another tech rep. That rep was actually helpful, and also inquired as to why we didn't have automation services, which would allow us to control multiple door locks throughout our house, which we didn't know was an option because the original rep didn't tell us. Tech rep said to just call ADT and they could add the feature easily at an additional $5 a month. Took 5 phone calls each over 20 minutes long and another 3 hours on chat to finally get an answer on adding the feature. Not only did a rep have to come to our house to "look at" our door locks which we already knew were compatible, that rep would then have to schedule another rep and another appointment to come back to upgrade the panel to be able to control the door locks. If that wasn't frustrating enough, the last rep I spoke to informed me that they are no longer partners with USAA, and it would be an additional $20 to add the automation feature because their pricing module changed and there was no longer a USAA discount on top of the pricing skyrocketing. Can't WAIT for the 2 years to end and the contract to be over, we will be finding another home security provider and NEVER do business with ADT again. Customer service is absolutely awful, the majority of the reps I spoke to could not answer any of my questions, it's a complete joke to have to spend hours on the phone and chat just to add a simple feature ...... horrible company, extremely disappointed and wish I had never signed a contract in the first place. read more

ADT would not send a technician to our home to fix a broken lock!!!!! i posted a review saying that and they responded by saying that we should send a description of problem and a phone number and they will get abck to us but without stating where should we send this.....so again everything they can do to avoid sending a technician to our house. I just called ADT again today, went through the different departments and reached after 30 minutes the service who is supposed to schedule technicians. the lady who answered who presented herself as Ashley (if this is her actual name) said that even though she answered the phone saying she is the one scheduling technicians she cannot schedule technicians and if i need my lock that is malfunctioning to be replaced i need to talk to sales. I will keep posting every day to update you all of the progress of this system ADT has put in place to make sure they only send technicians to the house for sales but they would not repair your system no matter what. read more

I cancelled with them on 4/22/22 after using 15 years. I confirmed the service was completley cancelled on 5/22/22. They billed me final bill $19.72 (5/15/22-5/22/22) plus $209.60 (5/15/22-8/15/22).
