I sold my house and called ADT to disconnect the alarm and I was informed of my balance around 2200 which I was responsible for but I was not informed that half of the balance would be taken from my checking account without prior notice . I was surprised to check my bank account on line and notice a large lump sum taken it felt like I was taking an advantage and trying to get through to speak to a live person take hours. WORST COMPANY PERIOD!!!!!! ADT system and app almost never worked. Loading cameras (If they were even online) takes forever, and whatever you're trying to see, is gone by the time it pulls up. This was ongoing for 3.5 years and multiple tech visits. Called to get a tech out and was talked into signing a year contract. Shortly after, I switched to Vivint (Amazing! 5 star) and now they are charging me the rest of the year ($500). I waited an hour and 40 minutes on hold to cancel. Cute, since you can get someone in 1 minute if you want to pay your bill or sign up. Talked to billing, they said "There is nothing we can do" since I signed a contract, even though ADT systems never worked, technically, breaching their own contract. I guess that doesn't count though. "Nothing we can do" Over and over. I asked for a supervisor, she said the supervisor cant do anything for me either. Asked again if they're available, she said "Not really". I told her i'll call back and get someone who can help me. Finally got a supervisor, same deal. "Nothing we can do". Funny thing is, last week i was offered 25% off the charge. Today, 12% off the charge and then immediately after 0% and told "We cant do that in this department". LOL. I have to now call back the hour and 40 minute wait department and see if they will do anything. All of this was after explaining that I am more than willing to file a legal claim and go to small claims with this. Their response was "Go ahead, you can do that". Adt is very expensive for what they offer. In addition, after more than 5 years, we were told we have to do an equipment upgrade which makes sense. Accept they showed up without the needed part, went back to get it and found out they were out and need to reschedule for 2 weeks down the road. Really? We cancelled our service and they continued billing us. The main reason we cancelled service was because our smoke alarm kept going off for NO reason. Making a sandwich, no cooking, no heat or air on and the thing rang so loud all over the house above our heads it was unbearable. ADT said they could not turn it off, but I could cllimb up and take the batteries out. I am almost 90 and my husband is almost bedridden. I do not know my neighbors. Walk with a cane. Have no family in this state and all our friends died years ago. The thing screamed for two hours and then suddenly stopped. Next day I am preparing to cook our dinner, am steaming asparagus on medium and the smoke alarm goes off. This time it screamed for one solid hour and then stopped. However, two fire trucks and an EMS truck arrived, twice during the hour. I had told ADT the thing just went off, no fire or smoke here and the fire department came anyway. I was in my flannel gown. Ruined our special dinner and was so upset I was not able to sleep all night. Another thing is when you had a problems with the system, like IT saying aloud, front door, front door, and I am in the hall and cannot see the door, ---scarey to say the least. They could not send a service person out until next week. Not for that, not for the smoke alarm. Terrible. Had to wait a week for any kind of service and then there would be something else. I called and cancelled and asked them to send someone out to power down my system because they said it would still be in service for another month. So he rips everything off the paneled walls, leaving a 4 or 5 inch hole in my bedroom and a rip and a hole where he ripped my CO 2 alarm off the wall and 2 more holes where the smoke alarm was and 2 more holes where the first smoke alarm was (that went off every time I cooked. All paneled. And ADT would NOT pay for the repairs. We are done. Had repairs done, and had to paint bedroom and hall. The hole in the bedroom exposed studs and wiring. Terrible. If you have ADT in mind, forget it, they are a terrible company. We are sure done with them. read more

Absolute worst company to work with. Nothing but trouble since we installed the system. Unprofessional, non-responsive and incompetent. One tech comes out says one thing, parts ordered, another tech comes out to make repair and says that wasn't the problem. 10 hours of on site time total, and 6 weeks of cameras not functioning and they still can't get it right and to make it worse, they don't return calls. AVOID ADT/Protection 1 IN ELMSFORD NY at all. costs. Keith tries to be helpful but is limited by his non-responsive service manager Carlos who never returns a call. Cailyn is even worse. At least Carlos occasionally answers his phone. Cailyn doesn't answer and never returns a call. Go with anyone but ADT. 6/25/21: ADT saw my review and asked I send details to alwaysthere@adt.com. I did, let's see if they actually follow through or actually solve the problem. Expectations are very very low. If they responded to actual problems as fast as social media posts, they might be a lot better off. 6/25/21 3pm: alwaysthere responded with question to which answered were already given. Then they claim they can't even find out account. Why should I have to do their Job and remind them that they need to check both ADT and protection 1 system. You are one company now. Figure it out. She either misunderstood her tech or her tech gave her bad info. She said she would call me back the next day and in typical ADT fashion, nothing. This company is so disorganized and unprofessional it's scary they are trusted with security. To make it worse, we had an incident yesterday and needed video evidence but WBF sure if ADT, we didn't have it. Pathetic! AVOID ADT. Got the GM on the phone (Mr. Delfico sp??). He was under impression this was resolved proving how poor ADT service and communication are. Either not telling or lying to the GM about problem resolutions. I called to have a couple sensors remounted after we replaced our kitchen countertops. When I was told there would be a charge, I asked to cancel my service and also complained about the high monthly service fee. Then they said there would be no charge and lowered my monthly bill by 15%. The technician who came to the house was not vaccinated, but I received an email invoice saying they do this out of consideration for COVID-19. If they were really concerned about COVID-19, they would require all their technicians to be vaccinated before stepping into a house and potentially exposing everyone to the virus or at least let the customer know in advance the technician isn't vaccinated and ask if they mind.  This company is pathetic and I'll probably cancel the service soon and replace it with a truly internet based system. Fire alarm is tripping the control panel. I have called and complained for months! 1.4.22 replaced the alarm and was charged a service fee. 4.20.22 It is still tripping the control panel. So I really get nothing for the amount I pay a month. Today, got notification they are raising their rates. I decide to cancel. Much to my surprise, they tell me I am locked into a FIVE year contract! WHAAAAAT?!?! I ask to see the contract. They send over some PDF with an electronic signature. I tell them, I don't see one with my actual signature. They said they do everything through docusign. Now I know when the tech came out 2+ years ago, he tried to upsell me on digital this, smart that, app this and it came to like $50+ a month. I said, I just want the cheapest monthly monitoring and he quoted me the cheapest they had was $39.99. I said ok. I guess that was my verbal to agree to a FIVE year contract? I asked if I wanted out, how much? They said I would have to pay 75% of the contract left until June 2026 which was $1700! I nearly collapsed in my chair. You have got to be kidding me! We've had ADT for close to 20 years and fortunately, we've never had a security concern, but I must say that over those years, ADT customer service has deteriorated tremendously. You can't even get a live person on the phone to talk. Plus the other companies have improved their services greatly and we have shifted to a new company. Plus, when I went to cancel the service, the customer rep asked so many prying questions about the situation that it was very uncomfortable. I'm HIGHLY recommending that YOU do NOT purchase the ADT security system and that you utilize another vendor or install the Ring system yourself. I strongly encourage anyone reading this to NOT EVER use ADT Security Service!!! It took 2 days to get someone out to setup a contract and we are now at 2-months trying to get it cancelled. We signed up for 3 yrs and honored that commitment, but they only want to play the phone us, pass on, phone us again, get put on hold, etc., etc., etc. Got contract for home security in 2018. 3-Yr contract. Wanted to cancel in 2021 at end of 3-yr contract and was told we had to write a letter requesting. Contract was up on 25 July 2021, and sent letter 2 June 2021 asking to cancel. Contract said to do this at least 30-days in advance. After 3 more calls, 2 more letters through the end of August 2021, contract still not cancelled and they are threating us with turning over to credit collection, which will have a direct effect on our credit score. All phone calls were passed on, we were put on hold for long periods of time each time we tried to contact them (even having to hand-up a few times due to how long we were waiting), so finally sent registered mail. After calling and talking with someone when we saw registered mail was received, was told the address was not the one that allowed us to cancel. Apparently they cant send it to other departments to take care of this. Finally today, was told it is cancelled but we owe $123.65 or it would be handled over to collection. Tried discussing with customer service, but no change. When asked for supervisor, was told she was the supervisor and there was no one else. I will pay the amount to just get away from this con job of a company and to not affect my credit score. With the hours we have spent trying to do the right thing, my only other recourse is to contact everyone I can and let them know what this company does to: 1) get people to stay, 2) get a few additional months of service from them, and 3) the comments we get back telling us they will turn over to collections and it will have an affect on our credit score. read more

They showed up at my house unannounced and convinced my wife we needed to spend $1500 on unnecessary monitoring devices. We started suffering from buyers remorse right away. I had come and remove everything and got refunded for the devices the next day and have been trying to cancel the monitoring service ever since. Wow. Called today to get a very small system - door sensor, window sensor, hub and monthly agreement. It took 30 minutes to make that happen. I had to spell out my name and address one letter at a time several times. Finally finishing, I get the email link to pay for the hardware so I did. I get the email link to sign the service agreement and both the "Bill To" and "Premises" address are wrong, not even the right city. I only gave the person on the phone one address. So I call customer support but they can't correct anything and customer retention is closed. Took 10 minutes to explain to her that "San Juan Capistrano" is different from "71 Capistrano." Seriiously, this is true, it was like being punked. ADT - I already emailed "alwaysthere@adt.com" so don't bother telling me to do that. UPDATE - Just noticed over 92% of the Yelp reviews are one-star. Wish I'd looked first. Going to try an cancel my order but I'm not confident I will succeed based on what I've read here. The promotion between AT&T, ADT and Street Safe is a Bait And Switch scam to take advantage of senior citizens. You claimed a large discount on AT&T service by signing up for a single security camera. When your tech arrived, he insisted on installing additional door sensors, which I repeatedly told him I did not want, just the camera. Was told with this service my monthly AT&T bill would be reduced from ~$265 per month to ~$140. The service would cost $63.99 per month, with a final total bill between AT&T and ADT of $212.00 per month. The system was installed in March, 2021, and my AT&T bill has only increased. I tried to cancel the service today. ADT says they don't handle the account, Street Safe does. I contacted Street Safe (Chris) and was told the only way to end the service is to pay off a balance of $1,535 for the remaining contract. I don't know how you have stayed in business with these fraudulent bait and switch schemes. I have reported you to the FTC, BBB, and tomorrow, the District Attorney's office for elder fraud and abuse. Next will the TV stations! You are just a bunch of con artists playing off the fears of the elderly. I am telling everyone I know about this scam you are running. I will be going to any house that has an ADT sign in the front yard to warn them of your scam. I will also be contacting AARP as well. You need to be punished for this. read more

I have had service with ADT for 34 years. They contacted me to advise that my 30 year old system was no longer supported and that I needed to upgrade. I ended up agreeing to pay them to upgrade my system and accept a higher monthly service fee. On the day of installation the tech told me the option I was quoted was junk and he was building out a new quote. I told him I would not pay any more than the agreed upon price. He worked it out that they could install a new system, but could not cover two of my windows. Then I was advised I could not use the phone app unless agreed to pay $1 more per month than the agreement stated. I gave in to get it over with. The app does not work properly, the system thinks the motion is always active. Scheduled a call with an app specialist and they never called me. I am now being charged for both systems, I reached the billing department and they disconnected the call twice. I called Customer Relations and they were able to figure out the double billing, so they say. They scheduled another appointment for the app. I then asked if they could issue a credit as I had to make six calls and spend over two hours waiting for service since I got the new system. I was told they could not credit me for wasting my time. I would never use ADT again or recommend them to anyone. I should have gone with Frontpoint or Simply Safe. read more

The continued to say there wasn't a problem and blamed it on AT&T for 6 months I had this issue to the point Im paying for a system and I don't feel safe. Overpriced with inferior wireless equipment. I have had the service since 8/2020. The wireless (6) cameras never worked properly. One or more cameras were out each month. Reconnecting them yourself can be extremely frustrating. A tech is needed to get the wireless camera network to work consistently. Even then, a storm or power failure starts the whole saga again. When your calculated up front equipment costs and tech---- 1,929.00, and a monthly fee of sixty two dollars a month... its a joke. Buy a wired system from Costco. Forget the central monitoring service and stay away from ADT. read more

ADT charged me next month's service when I cancelled today (an excruciating process alone), August 30th; ironically the relatively high amount they're demanding is a reflection of their misstep in not properly applying an agreed 6 month promotion offered in Early August so I wouldn't cancel then (no contract). It's so outright shady, would think it was an illegal practice. Obviously they're not regulated like utilities, but they should be. They also break all of your equipment in that interim, not even so much as a local alarm sound for the equipment you paid for under contract for 2-3 years. The system is definitely not worth what you pay. On top of that, when you finally fulfill your contract they will only allow you to cancel the service over the phone. You will spend at least 45 minutes on hold and then you will have to put up with a pushy used car salesman that will out right tell you "Well you can hang up, but then you won't cancel your service and have to pay for the next month." I signed up or ADT a few months ago and I was told that all service and/or upgrades would be covered in the monthly fee. I recently realized that the google camera wasn't working properly, and called to get it fixed. After taking about 45 mins just to make the service appt., when the technician showed up, he advised me that the original installer (Safestreets) didn't install the camera correctly. The technician took about 2 -1/2 hours to get it to operate properly, and then he told me that he had to charge my credit card $59.00 for the service call. Nobody told me there would be a charge so I was furious (what happened to free maintenance and upgrades???). The technician told me I can contact the billing dept. to request a credit to my account, but he had to charge the $59.00 for the service today. I called the billing dept. and they confirmed I would get a credit to my next month's charges. When I checked my credit card account, I see that they actually charged me two $59.00 fees ($118.00 total). I am furious!!! read more

I was a 15+ yr customer of ADT. During that time they increased my bill several times without ever increasing the service. When I called to end the service, they would reduce the cost to the original amount. I would have problems from time to time with faulty equipment. When I sold my house I called to end the service. A year later upon leaving the country and sealing up monthly charges to my bank account. I noticed I was still being billed by ADT. I had a lot to do before leaving and didnt feel like arguing over $500. Once again, I told them to cancel the service. A month later, I was billed again by ADT. When I called them...AGAIN. They told me I needed to give them a 30 day notice to quit. There was no service in the house for over a year, nothing to bill me for, yet they felt the need to keep charging me. Upon looking to leave a review, I noticed that I was not the only one. this is a widely known problem with ADT. You try to find a security company to protect you, your belongings, your money. Buyer beware!! I have had ADT for 7 years, and I haven't had any real issues until now. I have a fire alarm that keeps beeping- even after I installed a new battery. Turns out, it's out of date and has to be replaced. That would be fine, but they are charging me an arm and a leg for the replacement.
