ADT is the worst company in the country when it comes to installing and monitoring fire and breakins relatng to industrial and commercial accounts. They only installed the system in my medical building by lying and utilizing a bait and switch approach to marketing. ADT Security systems in the United States of America. Let me tell you something I had three homes with ADT they screwed me over 50% of the time over 5-7 years with three accounts none of my homes were protected more than 50% of the time so I dumped one account they gave me discounts after discount like three to six months at a clip for free and I kept telling ADT I don't want free service I want to pay I don't want to get a discount from basic service $50 a month to $25 a month and then get three to six months free I want when my home is set up with ADT I want you to protect my home so I dumped one of the three accounts then I dumped two of the three accounts now I still have one account they owe me like $5,000 for one of my three accounts one of the two of three that I dumped I wasn't protected for two and a half years they even falsified and lied on documents they presented to the Better Business Bureau BBB saying that I signed covid signature instead of my name? in one link / document, ADT falsified a document they claimed that I didn't have a landline to be able to use ADT but meanwhile how did I have ADT how did they come out and set up my account if I didn't have a landline or Internet phone set up? They owe me $5,000 and I still have one account with them better Business bureau BBB has given up they've told me they're not responsible for getting a resolution between ADT and myself but better Business bureau did indicate that ADT looked fishy on what they've been doing to me. I mean think about it two and a half of 5 years on one account I had with ADT one home wasn't protected over 50% of the time that's a scary thing when alarm tripped in that one of three accounts the alarm would go off in my home but they weren't getting a signal that alarm was going off at my home at ADT because of their faulty out of date equipment computer boards issue recall so they sent no help when alarm tripped and that's how I found out I hadn't been protected & this service member came out like in 30 minutes when I called and complained and he said look my company ADT screwed up they should have notified you emailed phone call text message all of the above to you that you needed to update a computer board and they said ADT screwed up and now I have one account left I got 6 months free when I should really have two and a half years free on that one of the three accounts I have one account still active the only reason why I kept it active was to see how it played out with better Business bureau and I love the better Business bureau but they let me down on this one because they stopped trying to get ADT to contact me and negotiate with me to resolve the issue. ADT never contacted me three times I contacted better Business bureau and they decided better Business bureau not to force ADT to call me. I didn't like that about better Business bureau but like I said I got to give overall experience in my lifetime with better Business bureau I got to give them a B for a grade, on a scale of D and F suck and C is okay B is good A is excellent scale BBB gets a B ADT gets an F minus. I realize that I'm preaching to the choir here but we all have to do our part in spreading the word of warning to friends and family members about ADT. They are a shady company that uses psychological tactics to take advantage of new home buyers. Their service is incredibly expensive and their contract is non cancelable until the term has ended. Even if their devices stop functioning, even if you want to move before the contract has expired, even if you cannot pay, and even though they have a 6 month money back guarantee, your money will not be returned and your contract will not be terminated. I have been putting off writing this for two months because, to be honest, I really don't want to. Yet, I feel a moral imperative to denounce ADT partially out of vengeance, and partially out of an obligation I feel to help other people not make the same mistakes I have. I had been living in a new house for about a month and had received endless junk mail targeted and new home buyers. Much of it was from ADT - trying to get me to purchase their home security system service. At the time, I thought the idea of a camera doorbell was a good idea especially since I live alone (this doorbell camera is currently sitting in a closet because it stopped working). So I was not adverse to the idea of a security system, but I was not going to seek it out any time soon. Then one day two men came to my door. One, I would come to find, was an extremely practiced salesman. They started with small talk. I could tell they were experienced at this front porch interaction when I asked, "So what are you selling?" because he immediately responded, "What are we selling? More like what are we giving!" and then continued to describe the incredible reduction in upfront cost for the security devices. I was not yet convinced, and that was when I made my first mistake - and probably my biggest. I invited them inside. Truthfully, I wanted to know what they had to offer. I liked the idea of having a smart home and so I walked them around and they talked about what devices were on offer. Doorbell camera. Smart smoke detectors. Smart garage door. Smart door lock. Door and window sensors. We sat down at my kitchen table. The salesman had all of the tactics. Connect with the client. Joke about something from the past to loosen the mood. Act quickly and do not acknowledge their hesitation towards buying. Elicit a sense of urgency by mentioning how this deal will not last much longer. I had already shown too much interest for him to back down now. He talked me though their points based system and circled all the devices they had mentioned. I had not decide yet whether I wanted their service when he made a phone call. He put me on speaker with a sales representative who asked for my credit card information. ADT is such a joke. They never adapt to the market, have high prices and have the worst customer service for such a large company. I received a collections letter, dated 31 July 2023. According to ADT, I still owe a balance of $59.00. Last year, I agreed to pay $41.73, which was completed. The $41.73 was based on my last traditional monthly balance prior to me cancelling ADT. I did not dispute that. For the initial bill, it was not itemized. I did dispute the $59.00. The $59.00 was for an in-person service call to troubleshoot my ADT control panel. This visit resulted in the issue not being resolved. I had called and complained to ADT customer service multiple times that I had a malfunctioning control panel. I was told the $59.00 fee would be waived. After another week of errors with the control panel, I cancelled my service with ADT permanently. Of course, they failed to remove the fee, and based on their poor customer service, they were petty enough to send such a dismal amount to collections. Do not sign a contract with them. You will save so much more money and hassle in the long run with Ring or any other service like it. read more

Do not think that the monthly maintenance fee saves you from having costs for maintaining your system. Despite paying over $100 per year for supposedly free system maintenance they now charge a trip fee for each trip them make, so it's definitely not free. Might save you on labor, but that depends on the problem. They never charged a trip fee before, and I've had ADT for over 20 years. But they now keep adding fees for all kinds of stuff that did not used be a charge. I have been an ADT customer for 10 years, and I am currently paying for video monitoring with a camera that has failed. I have called ADT multiple times today, held for 45 min, been cut off, requested a call back (that has not been returned) and I am unable to get service. As a customer, I do not feel valued. ADT has agents ready to answer with zero hold time if I call their sales department, but they cannot offer support to existing customers. tl;dr Stay away from this wretched service! To give ADT 1 star is exactly 1 star too many. This is one of the most dismal excuses for a security system I have ever encountered. The gear they install is second rate at best. They don't even hardwire cameras. 2.) The control panel is painfully slow, and poorly designed. You often have to tap it multiple times for any response. (I have the newest version fyi) 3.) Their customer services is beyond dismal. They are completely incapable of rendering even basic service. The ADT customer service representative will likely know less than you about your system. I have had to fix my system no less than six times in one year, and not one of those cases did ADT help and in every case I was able to solve the problem in 50% of the time that it would take to get no answer from ADT. 4.) You will spend no less than 1 hour minimum on the phone for help, and if you want a tech to come out for something not install related you will have to talk on the phone for over an hour-going through useless steps that waste your time. You then, if they can't get a "trouble code" will be forced to waste more time with a remote visit. If you manage to go through that without giving up in utter frustration and disgust you might get a tech who knows less than nothing to come out and squander your time and insult your intelligence. 5.) The price they charge is a ripoff. You will pay thousands of dollars for your contract and for equipment that will work 50-60% of the time. 6.) I am not sure its predatory, but the contract will not let you out early without paying 75% of the remaining contract value, and that's even if you have already paid for the dumpster fire gear they install. 7.) The front doorbell camera is a 720p joke of a camera that will fall off your wireless network without provocation, or if you have more than two close neighbors with wireless. (Don't believe the claim of hardwire they will tell you. They mean its hardwired to power not your network.) 8.) They won't share any useful information like the website control portal unless you waste time on the phone with their troubleshooting. The documentation is only aimed at install and not support or repair. In case you haven't figured it out: I hate this service with a passion. This is nothing but a mistake and a regret. Spoke with an ADT rep regarding needing security for my home. I told him the number 1 reason I wanted it was because my adult children kept on leaving my door open and wanted a smart lock. he told me the lock was included in the original contract which I signed and returned via email, but when the tech show up to install the equipment he told me adt didn't receive me original contract to sign one that he presented to me in order to do the installation. the second contract included the lock but he never discuss the added price that came with It. the tech ended up not installing the lock because he said he didn't have the color that I wanted for my door and he will be back in 24 to 48hrs. At the end of the 2nd day, I called and text him but never but heard from him. by then I was so upset I want to terminate the contract. when I call adt on the third day, they kept giving the run around sending me to different department. The next wasn't any different but by then i knew they were going to use the expired deadline to lock into the unwanted contact. When I finally spoke with someone he said someone in my area with reach out to me in 1-3 business day. When someone did called about the missing smart lock and I mention the 2 different contracts and that the tech did not mention the initial contact did not it include the smart lock, instead of owning their mistake, he accused me of trying to get something for free. when I told him I no longer wanted to speak with him, he told me he would not escalate the issue. It's over a week sin the system was installed and I'm still for the lock to be installed and they already took installation fee out my account. Shame on you ADT. ADT has been the biggest scam I have ever invested in in my entire life! They came to my house and they hooked up security cameras that never even worked and constantly billed me every month for something that was not working. ADT hired a third party to come to my home and install my services and sign paperwork in in the fine print said the defender would be the company monitoring my home and they bought the contract from Att, all without my approval or verbalizing to me that another company was taking over my contract. I called defender to get a refund on the cameras that I had installed in my home and they never in stock gave me the refund at any point I've been calling for six months. Anytime I have called ADT to complain about this issue their response to me "we gave the contract to defend her and we are no longer responsible for the services they are the ones monitoring your home "Not only did I get ripped off on my monthly payment I was ripped off and not returned the refund of the cameras that did not work. Also nobody from defenders will answer the phone and when I finally have gotten them on the phone calling over 30 times to get my refund they tell me look in my bank account and I will get it soon which I never have received. They are the biggest con artist and biggest scam artists I've ever used as a company and I highly recommend not using this and finding another service I'm disgusted and appalled and feel completely taken advantage of. You are better off getting a system you monitor. ADT is overpriced, their customer service is terrible and if you try to cancel good luck. Their website doesn't give you the option to cancel, if you call you get up on hold for 30-60 mins or until you run out of personal time. When you do get someone they try to up sale you, after you fight through all their BS, plan to get screwed one final time as they charge you an extra month as a service fee. My system has been beeping since Dec. 23 calked 6 times over the next 5 days and it continues to beep. told a cell tower was being worked on 10 miles from my home. Finally they decided that it was my equipment but couldn't get anyone out here to look at it until Jan. 13, 2022. Can't call anyone in scheduling because they don't share the number. Today being the 27 of December sitting here waiting for a call from scheduling to see if I can get someone out here sooner to silence my system. Absolutely the worst alarm company ever. I signed up because my house already had an ADT alarm system installed. I paid to add a couple sensors and a signal unit. Installer comes out and tells me I owe money, I said no actually I already paid. He gets indignant about as if he thinks I'm a liar. Then when he checks with home office comes back and says oh yeah, you did pay. No apology, nothing. Then after he left J find out he has placed this big sign in my yard without my permission. I live in a gated community where I can be fined for that. By now I'm really angry and decided to cancel the very next day, which was within the 3 day right of rescission period. The home office gives me a run around for a week then says I need to speak to the branch office because they are the only ones that can cancel my subscription. If I could leave zero stars I would. The WORST customer service we have ever dealt with in our lives. Not one but twice in one week did ADT fail my family and I with protection from theft. The first time all four cars were broken into with out any notification by ADT and the second our car was stolen out of our driveway once again zero notification. When trying to reach customer service they hung up 5 times, put us on hold for 2 hours, constantly being dropped and having to re call again. When we asked what they could do for us to help us feel safer they replied with more fees for different things including 700 dollars for each new camera, mind you we are already at a loss of a car and everything in our cars. The woman's response was "there's something wrong with our cameras". Well no shit.... That's why we are calling. The woman continued to try and put blame on other things rather than holding ADT accountable for the lack of protection. When asked to terminate our contract with ADT she told us it was a 1500$ fee for termination. When in reality there was a breech of contract for not providing security or protection so the fee should be waived. When I built my home 32 years ago I contracted ADT to design a security that would completely protect my home but be unobtrusive. While the home was being built, they did a great job and when the home was finished, one had to look hard to notice the protection. About 5 years later my home was struck by lightening which fried the ADT system. The internal wiring was fine but many of the devices were damaged. By then ADT had updated their hardware so I had the new hardware installed. In the 25+ years that followed, the system worked great with occasional replacement of the system battery and a few sensors. Early this year, while having the battery replaced, I was informed other parts were no longer available and it was suggested I update the entire system. After so many years, I concurred. An ADT sales rep called me and said he'd reviewed my account and gave me a price for the update. He said the new system, while wireless, would integrate with my internal wiring. When the installer came out, he brought only a few items such as 1 keypad and a few sensors. I asked about my other keypads and sensors around my home and he rolled his eyes and asked if the sales rep came to the home. I said "no" and he shook his head with annoyance and called the office. A few days later the sales rep came to the house and while apologizing quoted a much higher price. I protested and told him he needed to do far better and if he didn't I'd hold him to our original agreed upon price for a complete upgrade. I know he was in a bind but after some phone calls provided a better price. Afterwards, he told me I'd be thrilled with the new system and that it was their newest system that was just then being rolled out. He also assured me it would also look great. BIG mistake! When the next installer came out and began the work, it was clear I was in for issues. The keypads and sensors were such that I was left with residual holes in my walls and the keypad mounts didn't match the old electrical wall boxes thus leaving an ugly amateur-looking result; nothing a homeowner would take pride in having in their home. Soon after the installation, 2 of the keypads died. When the next tech came out, he said the old wiring that was connected wasn't sufficient to power the keypads and I needed to take them down and plug them in with a provided adapter and keep them on a table. Seriously? So I no longer can have my upstairs keypads in convenient locations on the wall. Furthermore, the door chime feature I had on my old system was an unobtrusive simple tone that provided a nice sense of security when anyone used an exterior door. This new system initially had a ridiculously long announcement when a door was used and I ended up turning it off. Some weeks later, ADT downloaded a software update that shortened the door chime tone but it's still ridiculously long and loud, so I continue to keep it off. This creates issues because my significant other and I startle each other when we arrive home, not knowing someone entered. I've complained numerous times to ADT about these issues and they acknowledge the system has issues. The techs have also acknowledged that they're getting lots of complaints and unsatisfied customers. While I don't live in a super upscale home, it is large and very nice and feel ADT has diminished the value of my home and sold me an unworkable product. I hate to think what someone with a multimillion dollar home will experience with the ADT update. ADT used to be the most trusted security provider with high quality hardware and service that set the bar for others. Their current business model is a lowered bar that's merely competing with do-it-yourself security-in-a-box systems thus resulting in a cheap product that's pure rubbish. I sincerely regret "upgrading" my system and staying with ADT. Never again. When the time comes to move from my residence, my next home will NOT have an ADT system. Furthermore, I will be on the lookout for any class-action lawsuits against ADT regarding this fiasco. UPDATE: In response to ADT's response below, I appreciate your reaching out but I've complained numerous times with customer service, I get a phone call asking for details, a technician is sent out, they tell me the system is what it is. The techs acknowledge the new system has lots of issues and a lot of customers are NOT happy with it. This has happened several times. Nothing changed. I wish I could go back to my old system but I know that's not possible. Some executive at ADT signed off on going with this system and they need to be fired. The product was not thought out ahead of time nor considered how it would impact legacy customers who would transition to the a new system. That proves a total lack of consideration of customers. The service is not the best but the biggest problem is when the contract expires and you try to cancel it. They do not let you. They may keep you on the phone for an hour to eventually get disconnected. Then, they take money from your banking account. I had to contact the bank to put a stop on it and now I have to start a fight for reimbursement. read more

ADT does a terrible job of handling charges I signed up with ADT 06/19 as my equipment with Vivint needed to upgraded. ADT assured me there was no cost for installing equipment, just monthly fee. Initial installation cost me $2500 of equipment, I needed "upgraded equipment". I then sold my home 01/20. ADT came and took out equipment, putting same equipment back in but somehow I incurred an additional $3000 charge for equipment. Then I continued to get doubly charged from 02/20 to 05/20, a charge for my new and old home. I have made more than 10+ calls and have yet to be refunded the money ADT owes me. read more

Our alarm panel states it has a low battery and it decides to pulse loudly for an hour. I call ADT--the customer service lady, though nice and though she escalated the problem at least 3 times during my 30 minutes on the phone with her, got no where. She gave me umpty ump combinations that did not turn off the "low battery" pulsing. She sent me to the ADT panel in my basement to UNPLUG and unit, but it is not plugged in! It is hard-wired to my house! She says the soonest she can get a tech to come turn off the pulsing is 4 days from now!! Our family is being tortured with this sound and she says we can wait 4 days! Finally she transfers me to a robotic phone system that hangs up on me. I call back to get another nice tech lady to set up a service appt, who at first, said that the earliest service appt to turn off the pulsing was 10 days from now! She prevailed and got an appt for 4 days from now. I will be looking for another security company. read more

The doorbell has been working on and off from the beginning, and the driveway camera stops notifying motion and every time I have to call for a technician to be sent here to "fix it". Today, I found two Amazon packages in my garage. Inside my garage. I got a notification for the doorbell, and while I was trying to load the Alarm.com app, I started getting notification for the "garage overhead open", "garage overhead closed". but never for the driveway, so the camera from the driveway did not record anything. I called ADT, and am currently on hold (45 minutes on hold and counting). I did speak with a representative 10 minutes ago, but she said they were unable to see the recording. She said the only thing they can do is to offer to install another camera in an area that is not currently covered. SERIOUSLY??!!. I want to cancel and she said she was going to get a manager, that is why I keep waiting for the eternal manager. I've had ADT since 10/2021. The guy installing the cameras told me I could cancel at any moment, but now that I want to cancel, apparently my contract ends in 2024. I am still cancelling this crap and will get a system from best buy or Walmart. My mom got one with 8 cameras for less than $500 and it lets you playback for days. It was all fine while we were regularly paying for an overpriced, outdated service. During that time on communicating with the company we were told many times that the equipment belonged to them and that they and they alone should handle them. When I tried to cancel the service due tonit being competitive I was then sent a letter to say that to switch off or remove the equipmentent I had to pay an extra fee! Disgraceful behaviour. Stay away from ADT, The sales reps LIE. I was told I had to pay half the deposit the day of agreeing to the service and the remainder after installation the installer told me it will be on my first bill. Well I got my bill and it was double of what I was supposed to pay. Why? Because the money I gave at first was for my first bill??? The rep told me I would get 2 cameras in the package LIE... I'd get the nest included LIE. Wasn't told I'd be in a three year contract. So I'm stuck with this crappy company but I would totally shop around and try to stay away. These people are a joke. 4 times they came to do a simple job for me. 4 times they brought the wrong equipment or none at all. I spend 90 minutes on the phone saturday because the order they'd sent me was wrong again. Guess what today the engineer turned up with the wrong equipment and a terrible attitude too. I'm having their equipment removed and replaced with another supplier. These idiots do not deserve to stay in business. Truly awful. read more

I will give negative points or stars if I can. I used ADT, and the thief quickly broke it. I tried to call them for over 1 hour when my house was broken into with the ADT alarm armed, but no one answered. Also, they should have called the police to come. When I finally got someone to answer my call at 9 p.m., they said they would come to fix my alarm on the same day. After about one hour, they called me back and said they could not do it on Friday night and would schedule someone to come on Monday. I feared another broken into since my glass slide door could not be closed. I decided to cancel the service and knew I needed to pay the contract fee. They said they would give me 250 dollars credit to help me. I had called them more than 15 times for two months, but the 250 dollars credit still needed to be in my account. The customer service could be better; they do not want to help you solve the problem. I have been wasting time calling them to solve my 250-dollar problem, and I will never call them anymore in my whole life. read more

Extremely bad. Total rip off. Pathetic customer service. So I had their alarm system and then moved apartment. I wanted to cancel but they gave me some exorbitant fee for early termination so I decided to take the good for nothing system with me. Anyway fast forward and they have charged me over 500 dollars for early termination. Apparently they couldn't confirm that they themselves had moved me to protection 1 and could not confirm my account. For 2 weeks I have been trying to get that money back. So first thing first if you get their system don't set up automatic payments. Company is fraudulent and a rip off. read more

I've had nothing but issues with adt, lots of miscommunication . Now I'm stuck with a contract. I was promised an $100 gift card if I bought the system etc and now they're saying they never promised anything. A few times I've had accidentally set up the alarm and didn't disarm it and no one ever calls my phone saying the alarm is set off??? Complete rip off. read more

Worst experience ever. Expensive and very poor service! Was lied to multiple times. They said RING was included, it wasn't. Had to pay for replacement of faulty equipment! Look at RING directly and WYSZ. They are high quality at a fraction of the cost. read more
