Rated 1 out of 5 stars A day ago Deceitful Business Practices I have been a customer with ADT for a number of years. I moved in 2021 and installed an ATT security system in my new home. At the time I signed a contract with a verbal promise that a contract would ensure that my rate would stay the same. After about 6 to 8 months I had a security camera go out and asked to have someone come out to fix it. I was told that I would need to trouble shoot it with a phone call. So they put me to work and I attempted to fix the camera with the help of a technician on the phone. We did not succeed and I wasted hours of my time doing their job. The camera has been offline for the last 6 months. In the meantime over the course of the last 6 months ATT has raised my monthly rate from 78.00 to 90.00 a month (under contract). I was called by a sales person recently who wanted me to sign a new contract for 49.00 a month with a guarantee that by doing that I would stay at that rate. Really? I refused and now am trying to cancel my service, which they say I still am under contract for (a two year contract that expires in January). So now they have raised my rates and I will have to pay them the increased rate to get out of my contract. I would rather try and cancel my gym membership during covid again, or sign up for and then cancel comcast repeatedly, than deal with this awful company. I've been a customer for over 4 years, their service has fallen off a cliff. They've also charged me hundreds of dollars in unexplained service fees, and then terminated my contract AND charged me a termination fee when I tried to dispute it. I think they've been through too many mergers and cut too many costs recently - no one at this company cares, and the service you get is subpar. When it comes about to cancel the service, you better make sure that is cancel, ADT continuously keep charging monthly fee's into our account we have to cancel our debit card, because ADT disregard the cancelation request. Well months later they send our account into collection, after they were unable to monthly charge, even we cancel the service and not service were provide for those months. Make sure that they give you a cancellation in writing. Replacement batteries are expensive, so if you have a contract with ADT make sure that this service is add other wise you will be charge every visit from the technician to replaced their batteries. read more

So the one star is just so I can write a review. ******Buyer Beware******* I usually don't leave reviews for bad experiences but this one definitely merits one. I've read some of the bad reviews and for myself ditto, ditto ditto. Stay away from this company. I thought they were reputable since they've been around for so long but I was gravely mistaken. First the equipment. It'll stop working properly way before your commitment to them is up. It'll also be outdated by the first year. So after about a year you won't even activate your alarm cause it doesn't work properly and you'll just be donating about 45 bucks a month to ADT. Can't monitor when your control panel constantly reads a "failure to communicate" message. They also don't tell you when you sign up that your local police department requires you to register and pay a license fee for your home security system. The city (San Diego) will charge you directly for responding to your alarm activations if you don't have one. The license is about 120 dollars. Pay attention to how much you'll end up spending on the equipment in the two or three years you will commit to. It'll be alot more than what it's worth. The day you decide to get out of this one sided relationship with ADT you'll soon discover its going to cost you. Even after the term of your contract is up. Better keep notes on who you talked to to cancel because they will give you the run around when you think you made it clear that you want out and find that monthly 45 dollar charge still being taken from your bank account. I've been calling since August of last year (2019) and still getting charged, partly my fault for not keeping a closer eye on my statements, but nevertheless I called again this March and bam again 45 bucks to the ADT slush fund. I just received another bill for 71.00. Oh yeah and in between the call in March and April I got a phone call from ADT if I wanted to come back. So I just got off the phone with another account supervisor to address this 71 dollar charge and he says it's some kind of pro-rate BS and not to concern myself with paying it. When you spend over 7k on a security system you expect it to work. WHEN IT DOES NOT WORK AND SOMEONE BREAKS INTO YOUR HOME, you expect the company to give you the attention you deserve! August I started the nightmare of ADT. The Ring doorbell I had that worked great! Well that's no longer installed. In place is a ADT doorbell that to date... 6 MONTHS LATER!!! Is still not working!! Same with the rest of the cameras... same with the two monitors... (one never worked upon install). I had to wait 3 months for a new one. It was installed... GUESS WHAT... never worked!! Texted and called company and there representative repeatedly. No response. Each month when they would call to let me know I had not paid my Bill, I would spend an hour on the phone eventually with a supervisor trying to reach someone to help me with my problem. Each time I was told they will make notes in the system and have someone get back to me. NOPE. Never happened. I refuse to pay my monthly bill for a system that has never worked, so when I call customer service you automatically get sent to the billing/account department! FINALLY on January 7th after being on the phone from 8am until 10:30 I get someone who wants to help me. I tell her. No. Too late. I want the system removed, the holes repaired to windows, doors, walls and my Ring system returned. She says she will get back to me later on 1/7 or on 1/8... GUESS WHAT... she never got back to me. On January 28th I get a text telling me they will disconnect my service if I don't pay my bill. I send a snarky response. Finally yesterday the manager from 1/7 calls me back. I call her back this morning. She said the manager has agreed to take back the system and return my investment but they won't be repairing the holes and damage, knot will they be replacing my Ring. So now what? I have asked she have the manager that made this decision to call me back and explain this himself. So if you spend several thousand dollars on a security system that doesn't work and someone breaks into your home, can you sue?? Wow. No surprise that ADT gets a 1.5 star rating overall. About the same as our poorly run cable company. My problems with ADT started after we cancelled service. The bill is fully paid, but I get emails saying my monthly bill is overdue... every month!!!! I get robocalls from the company, seems like every week. If I should answer one by mistake, nobody answers. Nomorobo doesn't seem to work. Unsubscribing to emails doesn't work. Marking them as spam doesn't work either. If this company focused on it's main business instead of harrassing former customers, they might stay in business. Been with a version of adt for 16 years, always felt their monitoring is top notch. (Brinks, 2gig, alarm.com, adt) Decided to upgrade and it was a complete nightmare. The local SD office is terrible. Took me 2 weeks and multiple visits to get it done, alarm going off in the middle of the night, hours on the phone with the 800 number troubleshooting. Look at all the reviews. Wish I would have prior to upgrading. Just find another company. 7/8/22. Update. That "one" time is not accurate. How does this worthless company get rated No. 1 in Security companies. I had beeping in two panels, top floor and bottom floor of our home. I called to ask for help and service people could not come out for two weeks. They indicated they didn't have a lot of technicians in the La Jolla area. They absolutely didn't care that we had to live in our house with not being able to sleep for two weeks because of the beeping noise in our bedroom. They never suggested over-riding the system for the zone that was presenting a problem. I had to suggest this to them. After calling two times they were able to over-ride the system. This is horrible customer service when someone really needs their help and they just don't care and can't even come up with a simple solution. After 10+ years I can say based on experience ADT sucks! Plain and simple. No more words are necessary, but here it is anyway. The latest issue is ADT's new Command system function relies soley on the signal of two third party cell companies. If you are in an AT&T or Verizon dead zone which includes a signal less than 3 out of 4 bars at anytime, ADT's new Command system will not work. There is no landline copper wire alternative. ADT rush to market much? How a company and its engineers implement a system that relies SOLEY on a third party's network and has a large customer base that is unable to meet the requirements for the system to work is ridiculous, but in line with my experiences over the last 10 years working with ADT. There are many as functional, yet less expensive, alarm/automation/video hardware alternatives with lower monthly monitoring costs compared to the equivalent ADT $59.00/month monitoring cost. I live in a densely populated city (population 120,000) in SoCal and the AT&T and Verizon signals were both too weak at my home to install the most recent ADT Command system. BTW- I have always received 2-3 bars on my AT&T cell phone and 2-4 bars on my Verizon phone. I don't experience any dropped calls or cell issues, but the ADT Command system still will not work at my home. My opinion is that ADT felt economic pressure from home alarm/automation DYI companies like Nest, Ring, SimpliSafe, etc. ADT then teamed up with Alarms.com and rushed this new ADT Command system to market without sufficient testing or consideration. All the system needs is a landline copper wire alternative in the cases of insufficient cell coverage. It's really not rocket science. read more

We have installed an entire new system a year ago. now the main panel has died. We called costumer services and they tried to guide us, an hour in the phone to fix it. I didn't work. they concluded the panel needed replacement and gave an appointment for the next day between 8 and 12. we waited all morning, they didn't show. At 2 pm someone showed, checked the panel, tried to fix it, and concluded it needed replacement!!! we thought that is what he was here to do! he then said they would have to order one next week and would let us know when it could arrive to schedule installement!! terrible service.. read more

adt security systems definitely has some problems in the communications department. They offered an installation of certain free products worth $850.00 with the customer only paying $106.09 for the installation. The customer would also get a Visa card worth $100. What they don't tell you is that you have to receive a redemption certificate from them , complete it and turn it in for the Visa cardThen in about 6 to 8 weeks you are suppose to receive the Visa card. If you don't harass them about this Visa card, they won't send the redemption certificate because they are banking on your forgetting that it was even promised. The only thing positive about our experience with adt was the installers knowledge of the system and the manner in which he installed it in our house. If I could give ADT no stars I would. I recently had ADT prewire and install a new alarm system for an addition we just completed. One of the windows has consistent false alarms. It's now been 4 weeks since one of their technicians came over. I talked to him about the false alarms on one of the windows and he didn't do anything other than tell me that we need to see more false alarms before he could help. He ended up walking out of our home. I called ADT and reported him and they said a supervisor would return my call within 24-48 hours. No one has called us back! Every week for the past 4 weeks I have followed up (about a dozen times) with ADT Service Department and still no one has called me back! I even reached out to the original salesperson 6-8 times who has been useless as well. We spent over 3k and now that they have our money as well as charging us monthly, they don't care about giving us the service we deserve. After reading all of the yelp reviews, it appears that ADT needs to be exposed for their unacceptable business standards. I have many contacts in the media. read more

If I could give a minus Star I would. ADT indulges in fraudulent business practices. As a result of poor technical support of our home alarm system last November, we felt we had no other option but to cancel and replace with a system from Desert Alarm. In spite of repeated attempts to contact ADT, and hours of wait time with phone dropping after 80 minutes on once occasion, it was difficult to reach anyone. I finally succeeded in December to create the email trail that (a) documented my cancellation request (b) confirmed that we no longer had service at the address provided and (c) that a partial refund would be provided for December service. ADT continued to bill my Amex for 3 months into new year. When I reached out again at 5 am March 10, and opted to go through Sales Department, after hours on the phone, I am advised that my only option is to pay for service through April. I want ADT to go away and accepted to cut my losses by paying and receiving a cancellation request. I am told that none can be provided. Only option is to take a hand-written case number. I will file a Small Claims case but want to make sure the world knows that this a terrible company to do business with and to AVOID. The only department that ever answers the phone is Sales. I just found out that I've been paying for a service (and feeling falsely confident that my home is secure) for the past 6 months that was, in fact, broken. I had been a loyal customer of this company for several years until I quit my service today. I had even called in October because there seemed to be something malfunctioning. When tested, I was reassured that everything was fine and that they had a signal. But this time, they told me they had no record of the October test. In other words, I was lied to by the tech rep I spoke to in October. For other things, I am willing to chalk up a bad experience to a single bad apple. But, when the sole purpose of why I'm paying you is the confidence of security, a single breech of trust is one too many. I got ADT about 5 years ago for my home in Point Loma. I started out with the monitoring service and was pretty happy with it. We wanted to put in some video surveillance so I called up ADT and they sent a salesmen out to talk about systems. I wanted to put in a wired 24 hour recording system in my house but he talked me into upgrading to pulse and using wireless cameras that record to the cloud. He assured me that if I wasn't happy, the cameras could be converted to a wired recording system later down the line.... Well the wireless cameras were terrible. You cannot program zones to ignore in the field of view. So the cameras will record a flag waving in your yard every time the wind blows. Then when they do capture anything they only record for about a minute and then take a while to reset, so you may miss someone doing something to your house because the camera has not reset. So I called ADT again to upgrade the cameras. Well the new salesmen gave me some bad news the cameras I purchased cannot be upgraded to a wired system, a few grand down the drain. Well to give ADT a chance I had him price me a wired system. They must be out of their mind, they were going to charge me $2600 for a 4 camera crap system installed and it wasn't even 4k. So I did my research, I found a 6 camera 4k system ($1200) for the price of the 4 crappy cameras that they were gonna give me. I will still use ADT for monitoring since everything is installed and we are satisfied with that part minus the pulse option. in this day in age I shouldn't have to pay an extra 15 dollars a month to be able to toggle my alarm from my phone. Do your research don't get a video monitoring system from ADT. ****update**^ Due to ADT's horrible reply I downgraded my review to one star. My friend's husband died and she was afraid to be in her La Jolla Ca house at night. I had ADT for thirty years in my house and felt comfortable introducing her to them. They had been very responsive and good. The salesman, Dan, who now is the area manager, I think, sold her a huge system. That was over a year ago. She has not been able to use the system except at nights because of all the false alarms. She doesn't want to bother the police over and over again so she will not use the alarm during the day. No one has fixed it to tgis dsy. She went on a trip last weekend and would not use the alarm and there were several car thefts near her house. It is dangerous I have written to Dan. My lawyer has written to him. The only thing that happens is a tech comes over and tries to fix it and then it still is broken. For instance when my friend came back from her trip the ADT monitor was dead. She is paying a hefty fee per month. I am planning to sue ADT not inky to fix her system but to reimburse her for 1.5 years of incompetent service. We have sent letters to Dan as well as the CEO of ADT. We have not heard back. Do not use ADT service, I have been a customer over 7 yrs they always raise your rates with no justification or heads up! I was deployed for 9 months I left paying $49.99 came back to same service for$83.00! So I called in because reasoning? I get told it will be $54.00 going forward I was told I even asked this is not a contract correct they say no I'm not on contract I am a valued customer etc. Next month all my batteries low and camera stops working I call in waste 2 hrs with technical support in the end I'm told that they will send my batteries & a replacement camera this is in December here it is Feb I call to ask why I never received batteries or camera?? To be told I need to go contact Fedex!? So I ask to terminate my account to be told I'm in a 2 yr contract which I need to pay out the difference after being a 7 1/2 yr customer who overpaid while deployed, now paying for service not being used because I never received batteries or camera!!! But I cannot terminate even though I have a non operational system for over 2 months now !! Do not waste your money on ADT use Ring or Chime same services for 1/3 the price!!!
