Firstly, let me start off by stating that ADU Resource Center was extremely professional and transparent during the entirety of our design and permit approval process. The architecture, design and engineering team was fantastic and prompt with project updates and design recommendations. Our project manager Diego met with us in person and walked us through the process and provided us with the peace of mind and experience to map out what to expect and how long the project would take. We even scheduled a visit to one of their already completed ADU projects. Seeing the completed project at their open house, and learning how quickly that project was completed, really clinched it for us and we signed with them the next day! From the time when we signed on with ADU Resource Center through initial/final design, engineering designs, plan submittal, and plan approval the Phase 1 of our project in Los Angeles, took only 5 months. It might have been even quicker, but my wife and I went through a few iterations of our vision before we finalized it with the design team, during which they were more than happy to oblige! We are currently on Phase 2 of our project. Our project manager presented us bids from several contracting teams all of which have been vetted by ADU Resource Center but were encouraged to shop around for similarly priced contracting teams but I am certain that any of the teams they recommended and have worked with directly would be excellent choices for our project. That being said, the main reason for this review is to recommend ADU Resource Center to anyone wanting experienced ADU Professionals who handle the labyrinth of permitting, architectural/engineering, design/redesign and navigating the red tape that might other wise cause this part of the process to last twice as long without their help. read more

ADU Resource Center is not a "Licensed Contractor" and the "Architectural Designer" as stated in my approved plans, did a terrible job on my design and plans was not in fact a licensed Architect. I have had multiple issues with the build of my ADU because of them. Also, the bid given before the drawings were approved went up more than 35% after the permit was approved. Responding to the reply from the business manager: If your business model is "at least your project was completed", I hate to hear about the projects that were completely abandoned. The only reason it was completed was because I stepped in to have the final inspection passed. I was showing up for inspections because your contractor said it was taking too long. I spent hours on the phone with the city to correct your company's inadequacies. Left to your company, my ADU would still have no electricity or registered address. If you work with multiple third party contractors, why was a forced to "work it out" with the one I wasn't comfortable with ? If you had similar concerns from other clients, why wasn't the issue addressed sooner ? Regarding the address issue that was "taken care of". Yes. It was taken care of. BY THE CLIENT. We were originally introduced to ADU Resource Center from our real estate agent back in 2022. ADU Resource Center's representative (at the time) was very helpful, friendly, and knowledgeable. ADU Resource Center provided us with a Storyboard to help us visualize and understand what our ADU could look like in our backyard space. Ultimately, we decided to sign with ADU Resource Center and move on with our ADU project. We were introduced to Sharece as our lead designer who was very patient and thorough with our Custom Design. We originally started with a one bedroom, one bath 500 ft ADU. Then, we moved to a two bedroom, one bath 700 plus square foot ADU. Finally, we chose a two bedroom, two bath 700 plus square foot ADU. Sharece was so patient with our indecisiveness but stayed with us the whole way. After we decided the design, ADU Resource Center assisted us with which payments we were responsible for with the city required from the blueprints and design. After design/engineering approval, ADU Resource Center submitted our plans to various contractors that they have worked with. We actually visited ADU samples of all the contractors ADU Resource Center offered with their Open Houses. ADU Resource Center presented our design to 5 contractors who offered us five various bids. We narrowed our decision down to two, of course, due to price. This was the scary part because who do we pick? How do we know none of these contractors will take off with our money even with ADU Resource Center saying "we have vetted all of our contractors"? In our personal opinion this is the most important component of what ADU Resource Center provided us. They offered us contractors who can build our ADU project and be confident to have no fear that we will not get taken advantage of. When ADU Resource Center says they vetted their contractors ....BELIEVE THEM! We have now completed our ADU project as seen in many pictures from various ADU Resource Center's advertisements. Though our contractor, Pedro, demonstrated great craftsmanship, this review is about ADU Resource Center's ability to guide us through the process of building an ADU and most importantly provide us a contractor(s) to ensure the completion of the ADU. This is why we STRONGLY recommend ADU Resource Center as your "One Stop Shop" to design, plan, and provide a vetted contractor to build your ADU project. ADU Resource Center simplified our project experience tremendously! We were shopping around for GC's and architects, for awhile. Then Nicholas gave us a call, after we filled out a survey. During covid he explained the whole process online. We got a clear picture of what to expect. They did everything for us and were there from start to finish! Someone came to check out our property. Then their team assisted us with the designing, on a very one-on-one basis. They also helped with the permitting and building, from start to finish. We even had access to financing through them! Despite the pandemic, everything happened seemlessly and according to schedule. I really didn't think we'd be able to rent out our space by the start of the new year. Opting for the ADU resource center was the WORST DECISION we made for a garage to ADU conversion process. I would give them a negative star rating but am limited to giving them a 1 star by yelp. They represent the agency model which strives to overcharge and terribly under deliver on work. They charged us 10k for permit approval process which we later found out we could have done in half that money with smaller vendors. Listing out why they suck. - VERY SLOW COMMUNICATION AND TURNAROUND TIME: Getting a response from them take forever. Ironic since they pitch clients on being an agency that covers every need and is responsive. In fact for the first 2 months they gave me the wrong outreach number which meant I spent hours calling the wrong number and getting no response. It was only after I sent them firm emails calling out their incompetence, that i got a response. Also they would take weeks to do jobs which would take days for other designers and architects. I have no clue why they were so slow. - INCOMPETENT WORK: The job of any designer and structural engineer working on permitting drawings is to inspect the property, make practical considerations and create drawings that will pass code but can be practically implemented by a contractor. They followed a cookie cutter model with our project and included overly conservative estimates in the drawing (6 by 6 headers which would need complete reframing vs 4 by 6 headers which would pass code easily). When i reached back out to fix these errors, they told me it'll cost 1k for approval and take weeks to submit, something other architects would do in days for less money. Additionally, despite being "experts", they prioritized work being done terribly. As an example, everyone knows that getting clearances from agencies like LADWP is the slowest task because of wait times, but instead of prioritizing and doing that first, they left it for last and cost us months. I had to followup with LADWP to get the clearance issued. - NOT A ONE STOP SOLUTION DESPITE CHARGING EXORBITANTLY: They can barely get drawings passed, let alone connect customers with contractors. I had to find my own contractor because they couldn't find one despite being a ONE STOP SOLUTION. - NO CREATIVE PROBLEM SOLVING: Again, their cookie cutter approach meant that every time we ran into an issue in field which required drawing jumps or more creative thinking they failed. Christian was the lead designer on the project and rather than taking time to think through solutions, half heartedly put the onus on the contractor to fix issues in field. - DROPPING PERFORMANCE LEVELS: It seems the ADU resource center was good (they had multiple 5 star reviews in 2022) but it took a turn for the worse this year. In fact, I had another customer call me by mistake (Shaun from ADU resource center was so incompetent, he gave the customer my number assuming I was an ADU resource center employee) and say they measured his plot wrong and wasted 6 months of his time. Think about that, they measured the plot wrong and had to change up everything last minute. Fortunately I wasn't that dude. I will end this with 1 positive. Danny on the customer relations teams is the only responsive one but is limited with what he can do. I appreciate Danny's help but the overall experience was as SHIT AS IT CAN GET. I would advise people to not go with them and pick out smaller, cheaper vendors who are ore competent and responsive. read more

This company has been an utter disappointment from start to finish. Initially, Timothy appeared extremely knowledgeable about ADU requirements, but he eventually disappeared without a trace once he got our business, leaving our project in limbo when the team member working on it left the company. A year and a half later, the promises made about the ADU bonus program were shattered when we received the official, highly unreasonable contract from the city of San Diego. Despite our repeated attempts over nearly two weeks, ADU Resource Center has failed to respond to our request to revert to our original plan for a junior ADU on top of the garage conversion (which is simply taking out the stove amd full size fridge). In addition to the frustration of still not having permits after 18 months, we've had to shell out thousands of dollars to hire a different structural engineer because their in house one over-engineered the plans and was going to cost us $10k more. Our attempts to communicate via email with supervisors have been met with silence, and phone calls to the company have been equally fruitless. All of this has left us $15,000 poorer with no end in sight. We were promised a May 2024 completion as we have a baby on the way. The only bright spot in this ordeal has been Reza, who deserves recognition for his exceptional service. If you're considering working with this company and you don't reside in Los Angeles, I strongly advise looking elsewhere. We feel completely deceived and thoroughly dissatisfied, making this experience the worst we've ever encountered--even after completely remodeling our old house just a few years ago which pales in comparison to this awful experience. I had plans for an ADU from a previous designer but got slowed down by the city of Glendale and then the contractor we hired kept giving us the run-around so we eventually gave up... I was searching the web and came across a Facebook ad for ADU and got curious about their work. They had really nice finishes on some of the projects I saw online, so i decided to reach out to ADU RC. A couple of days later I was contacted by Nicholas from ADU RC and after expressing interest in some of the work I saw on their website and explaining what had happened to us , he made a really neat storyboard that explained the whole process, including a page on cost breakdown and ROI. We ended up renting the ADU under 1 week after finishing and have already seen the passive income flow. IT is great knowing how much value the project added to our house and I would definitely recommend ADU Team for my friends and family and anyone that's interested in expanding on existing property. Nothing has been built and so many errors were made by ADU Resource that all but one permit was rejected by the city. They made a mess of it and all of the original employees I was working with left ADU Resource. Do not trust these people.
