My Diehard Gold battery has been dysfunctional for a while. If i don't drive the car for a few days (about 3 or 4) it loses enough charge not to crank. When I arrived at Advance on Cheshire Bridge at around noon, I presented my issue to Tyrus behind the counter. They seemed to be short-staffed, because Tyrus and the commercial manager Sabrina were the only ones there. Tyrus made the statement that a battery will die if the car doesn't get driven. I told him a battery shouldn't die after 3 days, especially the Diehard. he seemed very frustrated with me, and I acknowledge it was already a hot day and they were short staffed. He conceded that it might be a bad battery, so he looked up my make and model car- 1999 Saturn Sl-1. There's a footnote for my car that says the replacement cannot be done by store personnel because it might take over 30 minutes to do. Tyrus was quick to shut me down. He did offer to go test the battery so we went to the car. After a quick test, he said the battery needed charging, but they would agree to a replacement if i wanted to. I showed him the bracket with three bolts holding the battery in place. he still held his ground and stated he couldn't do the work. He suggested I go to a neighboring mechanic to have the battery removed (for a fee). I asked him how I'd get the car back to advanced for a replacement. --no answer. "well they can charge this battery for you" that's not the issue. the car alternator charges the battery when it's running. We went back inside and I spoke to Sabrina. She was very cheerful, but held the line. They would not do the work themselves. I asked if they could print my receipts. I was searching my folders and didn't see them. No to that request as well. "take a picture of our screen" When David, the new manager of 2 months arrived to help out, he gave me the same story. When I told all of these people that this store replaced the battery last time, they all told me it didn't matter. when I showed Sabrina and David THEIR APP regarding Diehard batteries that it says plainly "Free installation on all diehard batteries" (no exceptions or asterisks) , David said that it wasn't in their private system that way. He says if they try to install my battery and they damage something, they would be liable to repair it. Surely there's something i can sign that waives that liability? guess not. So when I told David that I would somehow replace this battery and then let the warranty run out, and never buy a battery from advanced again, he was unfazed and didn't seem to care. Other than Tyrus seeming frustrated, the other two were pleasant and not rude. They just would not replace my battery. I'm not a mechanic, and am not good with tools. They have a battery changing cart/kit with all the necessary tools to do the job. The complication is there's a retaining bracket with three nuts--two are easily reachable on top and side near the top. the third is near the bottom on the side. In the past, they were able to have the new battery into the car in about 20 minutes. Sad that I need to find another auto parts store for my business. read more

I returned to Advance Auto Parts expecting a straightforward swap. Instead, they asked me to keep the car running for 30 minutes before testing the battery. I explained that testing a freshly charged battery doesn't reveal whether it can hold a charge, but they insisted it was store policy and refused to do more. I went back to the mechanic, who kept the car overnight and confirmed the battery was indeed defective. Only after I contacted Advance Auto Parts corporate and shared the diagnostic results did they agree to replace the battery. Since the swap, I've had no issues--but they still refused to reimburse the diagnostic fee. To be clear, the store staff weren't the problem. The real issue is the flawed policy that prevents proper testing and delays warranty fulfillment. I'd give this location zero stars, but it's not an option. Went into the store asked for that battery and indicated that I needed it installed. The associate retrieved the battery and tools. When he was almost finished checking me out, he noticed it said "installation could take up to 30 minutes" and told me he couldn't install it. He hold me I can take it around the corner to a garage and mentioned that someone specific could install it for me. I told him I wasn't paying for installation when their website offers installation for my battery and car for free. I went to Auto Zone, got a battery with a 5 year warranty installed in 10 minutes. I'm definitely not going to bother going back to Advance Auto Parts. read more

I was very disappointed by the Customer Service experience when I came into the store. I needed apart for my car and I was not sure on the name, but I had a picture for the part and as a woman, I am not well-versed when it comes to cars at all, so typically when I come into auto stores, the staff is extremely helpful, but not at this location. There was a female at the counter she stated she was the manager, but she was extremely rude because I did not know the name of the part. I asked if she could assist with trying to figure it out that's what typically happens whenever I go into an auto store she did end up helping me, but she was very hesitant to do so and again was very rude. This Advance Auto Parts store is store #7808. It's located on Cheshire Bridge between Lindbergh/Lavista and Piedmont. It's next door to the strip with International Bakery and Taqueria Del Sol and across the street from Hong Kong Harbour. This is one of the newer Advance Auto Parts stores in the city, even newer than store #7175, which opened in 2013 on Howell Mill. This store opened circa 2016 in a brand new building. The store is nice. It's brightly lit, clean, and well organized. It's one of the biggest Advance Auto Parts stores I've been inside and noticeably bigger than the location on Howell Mill. The parking lot is clean and smoothly paved. I stopped by this store to pick up a replacement brake light bulb for my girlfriend's car. We were the only customers in the shop around 5:20pm on a Saturday. As soon as we walked through the front door, a friendly employee greeted us and asked if we needed help with anything. I told him we needed a brake light bulb for a specific year, make, and model car. He looked the bulb up on one of the store's computers, fetched the bulb, and we were in and out in a matter of minutes. The bulb came in packs of two which cost about $6 per pack. I replaced my girlfriend's brake light and the new bulb works like a charm. I like this location better than the one on Howell Mill because it's bigger and the service is friendlier, but I will probably go to the Howell Mill location more often because it's closer to where I live. read more

I needed to get a new battery for my Ford Explorer. Seems simple, right? I ended up here because it was close to where I got my jump start, and I'm so glad. Bought a battery without any sales pressure to buy the most expensive and they install for free. As it turns out, my battery had corroded the pole that holds the battery in place and it would not come off. Jimmy to the rescue!! He worked so hard in 100 degree heat and got that battery in and attached. He really went above and beyond any expectations I may have had. Just a really great guy who was kind and helpful and determined to make it work so I could drive home. 100% would go back to him for any reason even though there are 50 places closer to my house. read more

I want to say that Oscar was excellent today. He was very friendly and did his job well. I bought some windshield wipers and needed them installed. He was the only person working in the evening and the store had lots of customers. He never got irate or super stressed and apologized for the long wait. It's not his fault, it's the managers. I asked for the inflationary expectation of what type of harbinger's hell I might expect once a mechanic performs exploratory surgery. I asked for the bad news first... Jimmy was thorough, patient, extraordinarily educated, and the superlative of customer service. I bought a battery from this location less than two years ago. My truck wouldn't crank on Monday morning so I took it in Monday afternoon. They showed that the battery was dead but said they would need to charge it and test it before they could replace it. They charged it and of course it come up that it was a good battery at that point. The next morning my truck doesn't crank again. Long story short I had to take it to my mechanic who said that the battery was dead and I ended up spending almost $300 that should've been covered by the guarantee from advanced auto. I'm not the kind of person who would frequent an auto parts store just for fun. Meaning, if I'm visiting one of these establishments it's because there is a problem with my car. The combination of extreme cold and old age caused the battery in my car to die. I thought I would stop by the store, pick up a new battery, have them help me install it and be on my way. Sounds a lot easier than it was. Depending on your model of car your battery may not be as accessible as you may think. Mine was located behind the left fender. The employees at this store were friendly and helpful in my time of need. They are unable to help with this kind of install since we had to remove the fender panel to get the new battery inside, but both employees came outside to check on my boyfriend and I multiple times while we worked. They brought tools we needed and extra lights. They had the battery I needed in stock and were as helpful as possible. I would come to this location over the one on Howell Mill any day even though it's farther. The location on Howell Mill didn't even have a working volt meter. read more

I have been in this store several times as the staff has insist been helpful, but last week I brought an alternator in to be tested. I had recently swapped this one with another to try to fix a problem. When the problem remained, I suspected that this alternator was ok, but wanted to be sure before I put it back on the shelf. So when the employee came back and said it had failed, I was a little surprised. I asked him what had been wrong, and why it had failed, add he could only tell me that it had failed, no more details than that. He was very quick to try to sell me another tough. I told him no thanks, and that I would just get it rebuilt. A few days later I took it to an alternator shop, and they tested it again when I walked in. I watched them test it this time, and it worked perfectly. I don't know if the guys at Advanced were incompetent or trying to swindle me, but I won't trust then again for testing. read more
