Came in needing a part and asked them to look up my vehicle. They gave me the wrong part, so I returned the next day for a refund. The manager refused, then started making excuses about not wanting to get fired over a $7 item. I don't need to hear your personal problems. He even told me to sell the part online to get my money back. The manager was completely dismissive, unprofessional, and had zero accountability. When I called customer service, they said nothing could be done and promised a call from the general manager within 24 hours. It's been almost two weeks with no contact. Staff clearly don't know what they're doing, and this manager can't handle even a simple situation. Extreme red flag. Avoid this place entirely unless you know exactly what you need and can deal with rude, incompetent staff. read more

I would be weary about this place. If I were a regional manager, I'd send some friends here to see how they are treated. Vert rude staff who are reluctant to help in many cases. They have shady price match and inconsistent return policies where they tell you they price match and then come up with reasons not to, or say they can't process a return for bogus reasons like only the general manager can prices a return and he's not here tonight, come tomorrow he may be here. Worst costumer service, I called to cancel an order I made online of 2 batteries for my Ford F-250, to this store location by mistake, since I was trying to do it in my area. The guy on the phone said that he could not cancel it, that he was not able to cancel any order. I went to the store in my area and asked them, why they were not allow to do it?, they say that's wrong, they do cancel an order if you call before 30 mints after you made the order. When I called it was no more than 5 mints after order placed. They better learn how to take care or customers. read more

Friendly service. Pretty much just retail location. The guy I talked to at the register came out to test my car battery for free and gave me a rundown of the problem and options. Also directed me to the jumper cables that I hallucinated myself into previously having. Based on a conversation I heard between another customer and another employee, not all of them are particularly well-informed or helpful though. Due to local ordinance (or "the landlord," according to the fellow who assisted me), they can't perform the free installation, but he called the Chantilly location to verify that I could have them do it with the receipt and also reimburse me for the old battery's core charge. So yeah, if you don't want to run around a whole lot I'd go straight to Chantilly next time. read more

I went to Advance Auto to purchase a alternator and a drive belt. Jorge was the guy who helped me and the transaction went smooth. After installing the alternator I noticed the battery light was on and my mechanic tested the alternator voltage and found that it was low. I went to the Ford dealership to purchase a new alternator and that fixed the issue. I went back to return the faulty alternator and the drive belt as the belt did not need replacement. I told the cashier that I was there to return a defected alternator and he said to wait a second. He asked Jorge for help taking back the defected alternator. Jorge opened the alternator box and immediately accused me of trying to return a part that wasn't theirs. He said it was missing a sticker and returned to his station. I asked to speak to a manager and Jorge said there was no manager on duty and that if I had a problem to take it up with corporate. I asked for a name or number to the manager and I was told very rudely by Jorge that there was no information that he could give me. Jorge was very rude and unprofessional, for him to be trusted to talk to your customers is a very bad move for the company. I will never return to Advance Auto and will make sure everyone I know does not go there as well. Great store, horrible manager and staff. The staff here is completly incompetent and the manager is really rude. I had tried to go in to get a refund for a price difference as the online store was offering a cheaper price if I bought them online and then picked them up from the store then just buy them directly at the store (odd, i blame this on corporate advanced auto parts). Anyways the manager tried to give me some smart ass rude remark and told me I was hurting his business by trying to get the difference refunded. Well maybe they should honor the online coupons in store. When I said this to the manager, another employee said "Well if you asked us, we would have matched it." Too bad this other employee was the same guy who had rung me up just earlier that day and I HAD asked him and he said no. The people who work at this store are full of shit and pissed me off. I called in to check about changing a new battery on Sunday Jan 11, 2015 around 1.40 pm. The guy who answered the phone acted very mean to me because I have an accent. Or maybe because he couldn't understand my English and got frustrated. However, it's just because I have an accent, doesn't mean I'm not a customer. I called in and asked because I need help. The employees should help out customer not get mad because they can't communicates. Plus, this area has so many people who aren't speak English as their mother language. If you want to do business with them you should try to be patients and have a A LOT of service mind!! Im never write any bad reviews before but this time I feel like I have to! Excellent customer service. And that goes a long way these days. I had a "lifetime warranty" rear brake caliper fail after a year of use. It allowed brake fluid to cover the brake pads in the affected wheel, ruining them too. I took the old caliper and pads off the affected wheel, and headed to the store. I expected to have to jump through hoops to get the warranty honored (especially since I was asking for a new set of brake pads that didn't technically fail on their own). The techs behind the counter (a new-hire woman, and a manager-ish guy...wish I'd have gotten their names to thank them specifically) couldn't have been easier to deal with! They took the dead parts, and gave me new ones in return. 0% effort on my part. Plus, I had only brought one set of brake pads (from the affected left wheel), and they needed both left and right rear old sets in order to warranty them and give me two new sets of pads (protip: you don't want to change a single set of pads). They were trusting enough to give me the new parts and allow me to bring the other set of old pads back in the next day (which I did). Many thanks, Advance. You've earned a customer. read more

They are rude and in my view lack basic professionalism, competence and concepts associated with customer service in the United States. I stopped at Advance Auto Parts last night to buy a simple part for my car. The store was empty. The employee I approached was arrogant and acted as though he was doing me a favor by providing service. He appeared to be deliberately unfriendly. He had little else to do yet made no offer to help. He was a real jerk - in fact they should fire him. Really... stay way from this place. I would give business to any number of the other similar stores in the area - all of which I have had a good experience. But rather than deal with the last shop (Goodyear in Herndon) who replaced it less than 2 years ago with an obviously defective battery, I asked him to just replace it with a new one. It works if you are in a pinch for a very generic part or supply. I would give them 4 stars but they are out of stock on basic items pretty often- the same stuff that the Sterling store has. Weird. Also, always do a quick internet search for coupons - they always have 20 to 30% off. Just do the purchase online for an in-store pickup. This is the only reason I don't give them less than 3 stars. In the end, the customer service is average at best. It usually seems like these folks would rather be doing anything but working there and seem annoyed if you need to search for a part. One of my Top 5 Worst Customer Service experiences ever. I came in for a simple CEL scan. There were two guys behind the counter, an older gentlemen and a younger guy. I waited in line for the younger guy as his line was shorter and seemed to be taking care of the technical questions and not tending a register. I finally asked him if someone could scan and pull the CEL code. I knew they were a little busy and told him I'd wait after he said "as soon as the line gets down, someone will be with you". I said that was fine. Then he offered to give me the scanner and let me try it myself. I told him I was vaguely familiar with where to plug it up. I tried, couldn't find the plug (it was in the fuse box btw, found out from another Advance Auto later). So I came back in and told him I couldn't find it. That's when the older guy ended up taking myself and another guy with a CEL problem out with the intention of "showing us how to do it". ...keep that part in mind.. Well, he didn't have much luck with the other customers' car. The scanner wasn't pulling codes for some reason. Another thing to keep in mind was I told this older guy that I'd previously tried it myself and was unable to find the plug input. So..we go to my car. First thing he says is, "I have a bad back..". "Great!" I thought.. "I'm sure this little lesson will go just grand". So I got down again, looking for the plug. Still couldn't find it. I got up and said "There doesn't seem to be an obvious spot for this to plug into." Most of the times I've seen it plugged up was directly under the steering wheel. So he tells me to try the passenger side. As I assumed.. no luck. So instead of telling me to come back inside and wait for the younger guy who's more than physically capable of getting down low on a low riding vehicle, he tells me I need to go to the dealer. WHAT!?!!??!!! You guys advertise "FREE DIAGNOSTIC SCANS!" If you have an employee who's physically incapable of performing the scan, then you send the other guy out to help and let the older gentlemen keep behind the register..!! That's not rocket science. Absolute sloppy service. If anyone from this store is reading this, you know who you are. read more

They are very helpful to customers, will give you personalized attention. Includes loaner tools, charging and installing batteries, searching the computer and shelves to help me find the right part. They have in fact installed my battery in the parking lot and come out to the car with the diagnostic machine as well as check under the hood to help me determine problems. Saved me from an expensive alternator replacement by correctly analyzing my electrical system. This Advance Auto is my first choice for self-repairs. Much more than a retail location. Bonus: on-site mechanic (not affiliated with the store) is frequently in the parking lot and can help you repair your vehicle for a reasonable charge. read more

I called over phone and spoke to customer service rep , he pulled up my battery warranty record and asked to come following day for battery test as I could not start my care and it was after 7:00 pm and the staff which check for battery test was not available. Customer rep advised me to come after 10 pm tomorrow Following day I want to store and waited patiently for about 20 minutes in line as multiple people were in front of me , when I spoke customer rep ask him that my car battery died last day, instead of he listened to me completely or ask me for phone number or name to pull up my record, he interrupted me and said that there might be multiple reasons for car battery being dead as I may have put read light on or other ,I said I did not put an red light on. and I have warranty. I ask for battery test, he said that he was busy this time and I have to wait , I ask him how much time , he did not give me any time frame and said you can walk out of this store. I have been customer of this store for last 20 years buying batteries or other car stuff from here and never found this far change in customer style or procedure, I went to other close by competitor and they gave me excellent customer experience with free battery check. This store has serious problem now with customer service. Management needs to pay attention as it will jeopardize its business. read more

There was a single employee who was taking care of another customer, taking phone calls, etc. Although he had a lot on his plate, he didn't display any sense of urgency or willingness to call for assistance.
