This was my first time using AutoScandia. I made an appointment a few days ago for a MB rear differential service. When I arrived, I was told there were a couple of cars ahead of me and that it might take a few hours. Since I live about 8 miles away, it seemed like I would have to wait there for quite a while. However, they were very flexible and did their best to schedule my car so it could be completed in about an hour. Their willingness to help customers is truly impressive. Updated Review: After posting my original review, I spoke with Mark, and he agreed to revise the pricing and issue me a credit. This is satisfactory enough for me to adjust my score upward and acknowledge the effort to make things right. Original Experience: The team here was courteous and professional. I had one ignition coil and four spark plugs replaced on my 2019 Mercedes GLC 300. The shop used OEM Bosch and NGK parts, and labor was billed at about $270, which seemed fair. They also saved me money by not pushing an unnecessary brake pad and rotor replacement that the dealer recommended, opting instead to clean the surface rust off my brake discs. My main issue was with the parts pricing. The coil was billed at $141 (roughly double typical OEM pricing), and the spark plugs were $58 each (more than twice retail). After fees and tax, the total came to around $700. Summary: The job was done with OEM parts and the shop showed honesty by avoiding unnecessary brake work. Initially, the high parts pricing brought the total close to dealer costs, which made value a sticking point for me. However, after Mark's response and resolution, I feel much better about the overall experience and am raising my rating accordingly. read more

This is an update to my previous review. I had my XC70 in for a major 125,000 miles service at Auto Scandia. In Herndon in January 2025. Gene and his expert Volvo technicians evaluated the car and provided a detailed run down on service that it required. In addition, I needed a duplicate remote and key (the key fob) since when I purchased it used, it only had one. Besides the oil change and standard stuff, the serpentine belt was due for replacement (which involves a major tear down) so to save paying for all that labor twice, several other parts in that configuration were replaced including the water pump, idler pulley, hoses, etc. Volvo is not a cheap car to maintain, for sure, but I saved $700 over dealer cost just on the replacement fob, Overall, AutoScandia performed the work for about $1400 less than what the dealer estimate was. They are well worth my drive to get to Herndon. AutoScandia is an expert shop, providing diligent work at a very competitive price. The car was ready for pickup as scheduled. read more

I started using this business couple of years ago for regular maintenance on my BMW and Mercedes. Factory services are pretty expensive just for an oil change in most cases. They do a good job on these type of services. I did have a major repair on the Benz this year so will see how that goes. I always get a call detailing what is needed. They do not push to do everything. Really up to you on what you want to do from their quote. At least you don't get that nasty surprise on the backend. I have recommended them to my friends as I believe they provide good service at reasonable price. It helps that they are around the corner as well. read more

My car battery kept draining overnight from a parasitic drain. I had taken my car to 2 different mechanics and Koons Tyson's Toyota. The first two mechanics being honest and only paying a minimal fee for their time, were unable to find the problem and recommended going to the dealer to diagnosis the parasitic drain. I went to Koons and they ran all kinds of diagnostics and were unable to find the problem and recommended replacing the battery and paying diagnostic charges which I changed the battery. The problem continued. Having searched and searched to find an auto repair shop to fix the problem I found a 4 1/2 star shop AutoScandia. What caught my eye was a review stating AutoScandia had a mechanic that was great with Toyota repairs. I called for an appointment and had to wait a few days for this technician to return, it was worth the wait. I took my car in on a Tuesday without a culprit drain being found. They kept testing and testing and on Thursday I received the call I had been waiting for, "WE FOUND THE PROBLEM". I had a Velcro s trip around my drivers seat since the frame had cracked. Once they removed the strap the problem disappeared. After all that time diagnosing the problem and ordering and replacing the broken seat part I was charged a very very fair price. Wow, what an outstanding shop with expert repair personnel who have been at their trade for 20+ years on European and German vehicles, amongst other foreign vehicles. I couldn't be happier with my visit to fix a problem no one could reproduce. Though prices are not inexpensive, the quality of the work and the explanations I received from the mechanic and shop specialists blew me away. This will be my new shop for all my VW maintenance and repairs. I used Autoscandia when I had Volvos back in the 90s and early 2000s but I moved away for awhile and then moved back in the 2010's. I moved on from Volvos and I foolishly used dealerships for maintenance, juggling coupons, etc. to keep costs manageable. After recently getting reminded of how completely horrific dealerships are and how they literally treat everyone as if they are idiots, I remembered Mark and Autoscandia and how they had treated me so well back in the day when I used to live here. So I went to them for a second opinion. I was reminded of their professionalism, respect, integrity, and value. I will never take my cars anywhere else. YOU CANNOT PUT A PRICE ON RELIABLE HONEST TRUSTWORTHY mechanics! Literally invaluable not just from a monetary perspective but also in a "restoring your faith" perspective. If you are looking for great mechanics and a small business with integrity and value you have found it. I regret ever NOT using them and I wont take my cars, my wife's car, and my daughter's cars anywhere else for any service. Wow, unbelievable great experience. Was in VA for a baptism and on Sunday my Volvo broke down. Thought it was the starter so of course thought this was going to be super costly. After 9 hours of waiting for a tow, the driver recommended using AutoScandia, best thing that happened that weekend! Monday the mechanic found that a bolt was loose on the starter harness, so bolt tightened problem fixed, less than $70. Wow, plus mechanic had to crawl from the hatchback to the driver seat since the tow driver squeezed my suv between 2 other cars leaving about 9 inches, no scratches!! Plus I have beige leather, no dirt either! Amazing. Wish they were in Pittsburgh such a clean friendly and tenacious team. read more

My wife and I have been taking our Toyota Prius' to Auto Scandia for over 10 years and have always been impressed with the professionalism and service of all the staff there. This trust was most recently validated this month when we needed to have our windshield wiper assembly and transmission replaced. Our tech, TJ, recognized that the repair parts ordered were themselves defective and worked diligently with multiple suppliers to get replacement parts on a timely basis. TJ then went the extra mile and worked over the weekend past scheduled service hours to get our car squared away. This is typical of our experience with Auto Scandia over the years and is why we will continue to use them, and recommend them, as long as we are in the area. Went in for my first car servicing (first for the car and first since relocating to Reston). At first it seemed hard to communicate with them as I filled out the online form and didn't get a response (may have hit spam but either way). Called them up, Dan was apologetic and sincerely wanted my business. Dropped my car off this morning. Less than 2 hours later it was ready for pickup. Seems top-notch. Only bit of confusion was when I needed to take it in for service (i came in at 5,000 miles, was told it was 7,500). Oh well. I'll continue taking this car in at 5,000 mile intervals. Second time this has happened to me at this shop. Came back here after 7 years since my I got a new Toyota. I requested a oil change and was quoted around $150 which I thought was pretty high but went forward. When I dropped off the parking was packed. No where to park. Dropped its off at 9am. No other prices were quoted or discussed. After 5 pm I get a call. Rep says oil changed. Need brakes soon (already knew this) and I could use air filter. I ask for price and while waiting call gets disconnected and no return call was made. I call back but after 6 so phones are off. So now my truck is there overnight. I then call at 8 explaining what happened. Apologies are made and I get price for filter. I agree and around 10:40 it's done. I get to shop and $188 40K service was added. I expressed immediately this was not agreed upon. More apologies but no action. I would have never agreed to the fee for the services provided. Very disappointing experience. Make sure if you use this shop you get everything in writing since this seems to be something that happens. read more

Auto Scandia Staff are extremely professional and friendly. Mark, owner, really dug into the odor issue that I'm having with my vehicle only to find out that there was a class action suit that had expired regarding the very problem that I'm having with my vehicle. The cleaning of the evaporator and pan were performed. My only issue is that the cleaning process is not permanent and that the odor will return. The cost of this process is not cheap and it will have to be repeated several times a year in order to keep my car fresh. Mark, once again over the weekend, did offer a few solutions that might help to keep the odor from returning every month or two. This is not a problem that I have with Auto Scandia, it is a problem that I have with Mercedes. Extremely poor design and no long term solutions from Mercedes to fix the problem. I don't normally write reviews but my experience here made me compelled to do so. I do most my work myself, but after moving to an apartment, it became difficult to work on my car. So, I brought in my Lexus to get a brake flush at my scheduled time and paid exactly what I was quoted. The waiting areas were clean and felt comfortable being there despite COVID. The reason I got a brake flush was because I was trying to troubleshoot a soft pedal after replacing calipers and bleeding the brakes the traditional way. When I got home I called the shop back to ask Brian, the tech who worked on my car a few questions. He answered all my questions honestly and provided great customer service. I really appreciated that he took the time out of his day to take my call and provide detailed answers to all the concerns I had. He was very knowledgeable about my particular car and provided some advice. I had a great experience and would recommend AutoScandia to others. read more

Since my last review, I've come here a couple more times and have noticed an increase in the attentiveness of the staff. Perhaps Mark (the owner) has been giving them pep talks, but the point is that they have achieved a much more even and consistently high level of service which is in line with what I've found at top flight dealerships like Euro Motorcars in Germantown, which in my mind is truly customer oriented. As for the recent maintenance work on my Volvo, excellent and honest assessments of what was needed, and on what can wait. Also very communicative throughout the process via phone and email, which is important to me. Of note, I queried Rachid, one of the younger employees at Scandia about an issue with my Porsche's sunroof, and he actually suggested that I visit a dealership since it could be something beyond their capability! Unbelievable, a shop that actually admits to possible limitations in their expertise??? There was still an offer to look at the issue without strings attached, but the fact that he was honest enough to give me his personal and professional opinion as if it were between friends, meant a lot to me. They don't claim to be experts in all brands, but I know that they will do their damnedest if they can. I respect that they value me as a customer enough to do this. My Volvo died in the middle of the road as I drove home from the shop after they misdiagnosed a battery problem that was actually a different electrical problem. Gene was very kind but the owner never called to offer me any sort of refund for the new battery that they installed unnecessarily, or for the towing cost that I incurred. I have been coming here for years and was so upset. I will never come back here again. Neither should you, if you have a Volvo with electrical problems. read more

I have previously dropped off my car here previously. The BMW dealer would repair the car for $6,000! I got it done at AutoScandia for $1,000! It is great and the car feels much newer! I brought it in again because it failed inspection. I walked in and talked to staff about my car. They said they'll look into it and reinspect the car once the following changes are made. There is a great waiting lounge and they offer tablets for customers who are waiting on a service. They have great amenities. However, they lack parking spaces. I managed to find a spot quickly, so it didn't bother me much. They have a lot of repairmen and front desks staff working to make sure things are smooth and efficient. They are very professional and I respect that in a business where. Overall, I trust them with my car. However, you may want to make an appointment beforehand because they can be busy. I was a walk-in, so my service may take a bit longer, but it is understandable. read more

This is a repair shop you can trust and that's just the bottom line. As a woman, I feel comfortable taking my vehicle here without feeling like I'm going to get ripped off. Every time I've gone here, I had a quotes from somewhere else also. They definitely have best prices, use OEM parts and then explain to you thoroughly how the issues was diagnosed and different options fixing your vehicle and their recommendation on why an option is better over the other(s).
