While my Tundra had a prepaid service plan, I occasionally brought the FJ in, too, mostly out of convenience. For a while, it worked out. But once I started doing my own service again, I started noticing things that left me frustrated and concerned. First, on the Tundra: When I went to do my own oil change after the service plan expired, I found that several bolts securing the oil filter access shield were missing. These aren't obscure or hard to reach bolts. They were clearly left out. It looked like someone intentionally skipped reinstalling them to make future removal easier, which might sound helpful unless you're the owner who expects your vehicle to be put back together properly. Then came the FJ Cruiser. I've had the cabin air filter replaced at Red McCombs several times. Anyone who's done it knows there's a small shock dampener behind the glove box that needs to be removed to get to it. When I went to replace it myself recently, the dampener was completely missing. No one ever told me. Did they forget to reinstall it? Or just not care? Fast forward to about six months ago. The Tundra was at Red McCombs briefly for an insurance-related repair, and I figured I would pay for an oil change while it was there. Seemed simple enough. When I went to change the oil recently, I found that every single screw clip that secures the front bumper trim to the skid shield was gone. These clips are easy to remove and replace. No excuse for leaving them out. Yet again, it was sloppy and lazy work. None of this was catastrophic, but that's not the point. Every nut and bolt on that vehicle belongs to me. If you're removing them, you should be putting them back. I'm left asking myself: What else didn't they do? Did they fully drain the oil? Did they even install the new filter I paid for? What other shortcuts were taken that I cannot see? It's clear to me now that Red McCombs Toyota Service repeatedly cut corners. Whether it's due to laziness, lack of training, or trying to get jobs done faster, I don't know. What I do know is I shouldn't have to spend my own time crawling under my vehicle to reinstall bolts and replace missing hardware because someone didn't do their job. I'm done with Red McCombs Toyota Service. If you care about your vehicle, check their work. Because, based on my experience, they might not.

We are interested in the Echomaster part number MRCHDDVRJW, which tilts downward when reversing to assist with parking. * Upgrading the headlights to LED units. * Replacing the factory radio with a modern flat-screen system that supports Bluetooth, USB connectivity, wireless music streaming, and phone-based navigation. If you are able to complete these upgrades, please let me know your availability and provide an estimated cost for the full scope of work and parts so we can move forward with scheduling a time to install." I received the following email response confirming they could provide an equivalent solution for the camera: "Hey Justin, The Rydeen works the same way as well. It gives you a different angle when in reverse. I would have to order a few parts, and get you scheduled the week after Christmas. Let me know if this will work for you." Based on that email confirmation, I dropped my Jeep off in the morning for installation. When I picked up the vehicle, I immediately noticed that the camera does not tilt or change angle at all. It is a stationary camera. In addition, the camera is not properly secured. Any bump in the road causes it to point downward, making it impossible to see behind the vehicle. As a result, the rearview mirror is essentially unusable, which creates a safety concern. They also installed a radio, but it does not support wireless phone connectivity for displaying maps or navigation. When I brought this up, I was told that upgrading to that capability would cost an additional $1,500. This was never discussed prior to installation. The radio has no front-facing USB ports. The only USB connection was routed into the glove box. The expectation appears to be running a cable out of the glove box door, which is not practical. The USB connection is also not secured and frequently falls behind the glove box, requiring me to retrieve it repeatedly. Jeep dashboards have designated locations for properly mounted USB ports, which would have been a much cleaner and more functional solution. I also had to bring the vehicle back a second day because they did not have all the required wiring components to connect the steering wheel controls. I was only informed of this when I picked up the vehicle on day one, which required me to miss work again. Overall, the final installation did not align with what was represented in the emails. Several features were misrepresented, communication around capabilities and costs was lacking, and the installation quality did not meet expectations. Based on this experience, I would not recommend their services. I have photos documenting the issues and will add them to the Google review.
