I bought and had windshield wipers put on my car. They were not put on correctly. They fell off on the Harrisburg expressway in a rain storm. The manager would not honor the warranty unless I could provide me the windshield wipers that fell off at 60 miles an hour on the highway I asked for the manager but he told me he was the manager I asked for his bosses number but he gave me a bogus number. I went to buy a headlight bulb and the register clerk (Keith) had the personality of a walrus (probably doing a disservice to the walrus by comparison). Anyway - he looks up the part and gestures "H11, aisle 5". Not being auto parts savvy, I'm thinking 'what the hell is H11?' - but I eventually figure it out. I pay for the bulb and ask if they can install it for me. I get a sour reply "we don't install headlights". No smile, no eye contact, not even a friendly tone of voice. It's like he was mad that he was working today. Sheesh! Determined to keep a bright outlook, I told him 'Merry Christmas' and left but knew I'd be back to return the bulb shortly. NOW let me tell you what good customer service is....I went to Auto Zone and was greeted with a friendly "how can I help you?" The guy went and located the bulb for me to make sure I got the correct one. He said they don't install headlights either, but he directed me to a mechanic shop nearby and said they'd be able to assist me - and they did. I promptly returned to Advanced Auto and returned the bulb I had originally bought - same clerk, same "I hate my job and don't like you either" attitude. Customer Service is incredibly important and trust me when I say I won't be back to that store! If I could give them a fraction of a point, I would! read more

I'm 54 years old & have never had worse customer service in all my life. They said they could not match a quick connect for air powered tool because the fitting did not come off a vehicle. I said what about all these fittings right here on your shelf that are the same kind I brought in to match. The very rude & unprofessional guy said doesn't matter. They lost a sale of 100 quick connects over $1000. The experience was bad enough but then the guy was yelling at me as I walked out the door. Not exactly sure what he was saying but the hood rat with face tattoos needs to be fired. I will not only never go to this store I will never go to any AAP store again. read more

My auto mechanic removed my battery and found it had leaked battery acid all over the battery compartment. I went to Advanced Auto, the Ridgely & York location, to return it. I had the receipt, and one month left on the warranty. Their hand-held tested said it couldn't tell if I the battery was good, and to charge it. I returned the next day. Store manager said that the tester indicated that the battery was "good" and couldn't do anything, despite the battery leaking. Called corporate consumer service; they wanted a paper printout of the battery's condition. Store manager said (on my third trip there!) that they don't have such a device. What a run-around. I gave up. Don't waste your money--Advance auto will do anything to get out of having to honor a warranty. read more

I bought windshield wipers at the Ellicott City location because we were there. Rained two weeks later, and I hated them. Returned them to the Timonium location because it's near my house. Exchanged them for another brand. There was a $10 credit due to me, but I was told I had to get it on one of their gift cards. I asked why, and was told that the stores aren't linked in the computer system and that was the only way to do it. I left the store and called their customer care line. They were not helpful; telling me I could have returned them to the location where I bought them and gotten the cash back. Two words: twenty-first century. Purchased $60 light bulbs. When installing I noticed that I already had the same bulbs. Went to return them and was honest with the counter person and they would not exchange them for other bulbs. They could not because the original packaging was not on the product I was returning. However it is impossible to remove the bulbs from the packaging without removing the packaging. If I would've lied and said that they were defective he would've exchange them. So I guess it's off to another advance auto-parts store to tell them they're defective. Located down Ridgely Road near the old Giant Foods (Now Personal Physicians of Lutherville) this auto parts store is tucked between several other businesses. Recently opened this new, clean and bright location is a treat for me to go to. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly. They have the parts in house and if they do not they can ship them in or tell you which store has it if you need to get it. They also have plenty of cool stuff to look at on the floor to browse while you are waiting for your parts. It really clicks into the male DNA, that desire to browse only like a dude can understand. Similar to going to a Sporting Goods store, the automotive aisle in Wal-Mart or the local grocery store small and expensive hardware section. But you will not find over priced gadgets there. I bought a water pump, hoses and clams to fix my car. They were 30% cheap than the old and worn out auto parts store just north of them. And yes I did compare the prices before shopping. One thing they did was suggest additional items I was forgetting I needed. Like gasket goo to make sure it does not leak....Good one to forget huh? And also an inexpensive warranty covering it for 2 years. I do not often buy these warranty's but the price was cheap so I got it. I did have a choice of a new or re-manufactured water pump. But they explained why I should go with the new one. I do a lot of my own repairs so I felt as though I could trust them. And that is an important value to me. So if you need parts, wiper blades some cool gauges for your machine and want a CLEAN and fully stocked inventory to choose from at good prices come here. I think you will like it. read more

I purchased jumper for my jaguar before Christmas. Haven't used it. After I called to my dealer found out I can't use jumper on my jag cause it will destroy system. When I brought it back, they said I can't return it cause it is electronic. I would not recommend Advanced Auto Parts for purchasing any electronic devices in it. Bacause they don't care if you use it or not, they won't take it back. Even if you purchased it and when get home it is broken, you stuck with it and lost your money. read more

Lazy customer service. Asked for a bolt for my battery and i got a blank look. Then he said the computer wont tell him. He pointed to an area and said all the bolts are right there. It wasnt there. I just stopped to buy a seat wedge cup holder for a work vehicle at the end of the transaction I asked for a small bag the guy just shook his head and said we aren't you just going to put it in your car. I thought I needed a headlight bulb for my 2004 Honda. I asked the salesman at the counter for the bulb he quoted me. 46.00 & some odd cents. I had changed the drivers side headlight bulb several years ago & it was still going strong and I still had one in the pack but decided to purchase a new one just in case. When he quoted his price I said " I recall only paying a few dollars for the last set of bulbs, so I told him nevermind I think I still have one at home. When I got home I googled head bulbs for 2004 honda element , cost $10.49 Phillips the same brand that I purchased before. Advance Auto had this but it was not mentioned. The clerk only quoted me the highest price bulb they carry as if there were no other options. Even when I mentioned the price being higher than I remember he just looked at me. When I got home I replaced the headlight bulb from the set I brought over 3 years and paid under 10.00 worked. I understand the need to up sale but to imply that was my only option? I will never go to this location again despite this is closest to my home, check your if you have to go here...check your options first & know what's available otherwise they will rip you off. Attempted to return something fully in line with the company return policy as written on their website, and was given the run-a-around by both staff and the store manager. Came here about 3 weeks ago to get a new bulb for my headlight. As soon as I walked in I was greeted and the girl looked up the model part for my car and got it off the shelf for me. She offered to put them in for me but when we got out to my car and I told her I had spring bulbs she said she couldn't put them in. It wasn't a huge deal since my uncle was able to put them in for me the next day. It just would have been nice if she would have checked to see if anyone else in the store may have been able to do it. But she was still very friendly and I will be back for any future car needs. read more

The staff made a mistake and instead of owning it and apologizing, they misinformed me as to the cause of their mistake, made excuses and one employee smirked at the other while I was explaining what they did to avoid this from happening to another customer. My Honda dealer corrected their mistake and now I'm forced to return a third time to get this matter resolved. I will tell everyone I know not to go here. First off let me say the best thing is to order the part on line and pick up in store you have a huge discount if you do it that way .with that being said I have went to this advanced auto parts store and twice i have nothing but great experiences! The first one was i had to get some new wiper blades on 9/1/17 and i was greeted by Ian the greatest sales person i have ever met in an advanced auto parts and i have been to several he asked me if i wanted them put on now and without any hesitation he came from behind the counter and placed them on with the quickness i gave him a handshake and a thank you we talked about my car a little bit and off i went and i said to myself that if i came back again i would ask for Ian . So today 11/15 my passenger side headlight goes out and I'm not far from this advanced auto and i drive down there all the whole thinking man i hope i run into Ian that guy was great i go inside and guess who it is Ian i tell him about my car and he looks like he remembers it . I tell him the year make and model of my car and he says well you should get two because one we replace one the other one is sure to go i say okay the i ask if they have the tools to put it in Ian says hmm we might let me go look at . I pop the hood and we realize how to get to the lights are behind the wheel well so he gets down on his knees and pulls the light out and then begins to replace the light pops the new one in quickly then goes over to the drivers side and replaces the other one faster than the first ! Went into this Lutherville store last week to get my charging system tested and was told by employee Justin my car should be turned off for the test. I questioned him and he said that's the way it works with their machine. How can you tell if an alternator is charging properly if the car isn't running? He told me everything was fine and the next day my car broke down due to a bad alternator! Lesson learned- these guys are NOT mechanics. read more
