Salvo used to be our favorite auto parts store. They had locations all over the place, but it still felt like supporting a smaller, local business. They're all gone now. Bought up by O'Reilly. I've been to other AutoZones but the staff at the Taylor Ave. is the best. I needed seals for my compressor and Sean knew exactly what I needed and suggested that I take freon with me so that I have it to charge up the AC. Well the mechanic asked for the freon, and I had it, and was ready to go! After visiting the other store on York Road, I almost gave up on having a working AC for that crazy hot weekend. Salvo rocks. Has the feeling of a small town shop with knowledgeable and friendly guys working here. They have some of the best retail prices I've ever seen for Axles and quality branded suspension parts also, not too sure how they make money? Maybe they don't like screwing people over, which I appreciate. I bought a set of KYB struts from Salvo for my 2013 Mazda3 for only $90 each, that's about what most online retailers were selling for AND way less than Mazda or any other distributer who sells KYB. I'll continue to be loyal to Salvo as long as I live in Baltimore. Oh PS, why don't y'all have a store in the city? Only area of opportunity. read more

My husband and I went into get a belt and the man behind the counter wouldn't even get off the chair to help us. The belts were hanging up and out of reach. There was no way we could even reach the belt if we found the one we needed. The service was horrible and no help to us at all. This has been my come-to place for anything auto-related over the years. Salvo has anything small (from car fresheners and car rugs) to heavier equipment (such as flex pipes and alternators). This Salvo location usually has it all and usually has everything that I'm looking for. Salvo Auto Parts has been in the Towson area for 15+ years, and has no interest of slowing down yet. The staff is very knowledgeable and are able to assist with any needs; whether in person or on the phone. My last encounter with Salvo was actually a couple of days ago, where I needed a flex pipe for my car. Instead of paying near $1100 to have my flex pipe and catalytic converter replaced by my default auto shop, I got the parts here for less than 1/3 of that price. The EPA should be proud of my willingness to help the environment. There are many Salvo locations within the Baltimore area, but this specific location is my default spot to go to. This place is by far one of the CRAPPIEST auto supply stores you will ever walk into. The store looks like it was originally built in the 1950's, and I swear on my best pair of Jordan's they haven't changed a single thing inside of the joint except the employees. Here's my list: Things I Like: - They have most brands of cleaning supplies, and typically always have something on sale. - They have a wide variety of oils. A LOT. - They have a good parts inventory for DIY repairs. Things I Don't Like: (Hold onto your brake pads!) - The parking lot looks like a bombing zone in Afghanistan. Your car could fit into some of the age old potholes. - The store entrance uses a turnstile. Why? I don'y know. But I can barely fit my fat ass through it. Just odd. - The isles are listed by number/letter combination (example: 1A, 2B, 3A), and not by parts (the way isle signage in a grocery store indicates "Dairy"). This means you will wander the store like a "Walking Dead" zombie trying to find replacement bulbs. - No help, from anyone. They don't employ enough people to walk the isles. I've never had someone approach me asking to assist. - Shelf inventory sucks. I tried to find a replacement bulb for a brake light. They had a weak supply, and didn't have my size. - Outdated everything. Their wiper section has a digital tool to assess what size wipers your car needs. It only goes up to 2009. I drive a 2013. This is a theme throughout the store. - Dot-Matrix receipts. Relive the 80's with every transaction! Again, the place is the worst. In fact, as I'm writing this I keep asking internally "Why do you go here?" And I have decided that I will not return. The place is so bad I now feel like I'm being disrespected. They don't even try to run a good store. Walk into an Advanced Auto-Parts and they greet you and offer assistance. None of that happens at Salvo Auto Parts. Whoever runs the joint needs to get under the hood and replace some looooong broken pieces. read more

He explained all options that I had and when a part I needed was not at this location he immediately sent someone to another location to obtain it for me within an hour. When the sign on the door says, "Free wiper installation;" there should be free wiper installation. Instead, my request was initially met with a blank stare and then another employee said, "I don't have enough people" and walked away. I didn't even get an apology or a suggestion of when to come back for service. Classy...really classy. read more

At the last minute on a Friday night, my wife requested my help getting a burned out headlamp replaced. From prior experience, I knew this normally easy job was slightly beyond my comfort zone because it required moving moving the battery around to get to the bulb for replacement. A very chipper team of young Nick and Alex told me they would be happy to help me do the repair right in their parking lot!! Alex arrived with several socket wrenches and extensions, and made short work out of the replacement - and within minutes I am on my way home....problem solved!! Where do you GET professional and polite help like that these days??? My hat is off to Alex and Nick and Salvo auto parts for their EXCELLENT service!! read more

LAST RESORT FOR HARD TO FIND OLDER CAR PARTS. Be willing to shell out the extra $$$ though. Everything is overpriced compared to the big box auto parts stores. If your car is 2002 or newer - forget it. They most likely won't have the part. Counter help sucks. Most of the younger guys have attitudes. Once in a while you'll get a seasoned veteran who gets satisfaction from helping a customer, but its rare. Back in the day, the Back River Neck Rd store was the place to go if you needed the latest and greatest, but not now. The stores I've visited recently are full of nothing but overpriced NOS - New Old Stock that goes back decades. They would do better to close down the stores and sell off that old stuff on Ebay. This chain is like your old fashion hardware store, they've got it. They typically have everything you need parts wise on the shelf or at a nearby store. The best part is I shop around and they are consisitently the best priced parts over Advance & Autozone. Their MAS chassis parts are better than the Moog and their US Motor Works water pumps have never let me down. This place is a great family run chain, and I always like to keep my local business owners my first choice! read more

I needed an exhaust gasket so I went to the back desk and asked Johnathon. He mumbled something then walked off for about 20 minutes then came back and said, "I'm stuck, ask that other guy." So I waited another 15 mins to ask the other guy (didn't get his name). He said he would look for it. He then asked Johnathon to look for it again. after another 20 minutes Johnathon said, "we don't have it." So i wasted an hour there which meant I was in the hot sun an extra hour working on my car. (How did I get the gasket? I went to Advanced Auto. The guy pulled the gasket out from behind the counter is less than a minute). read more

A friend recommended I go here to get a good deal on car parts, but my experience with the staff was HORRIBLE! !! It took a good 3 minutes for one of the 3 associates to acknowledge me. They knew I was there because they kept looking me in my face , but no one greeted me. Once they finally finished their personal conversation someone not very friendly spoke to me. After he gave me pricing in a way that seemed as if I was bothering him, I said thanks and began to walk away expecting a "You're welcome, have a good day" , but nothing they just turned away and finished their conversation. I went to the next counter to ask for a manager or a customer service number and no differently than the other employees she looked at me crazy and said "Idk, you can back there and ask one of them. ". I said no thanks and left. I dispise bad customer service and refuse to give them my business. read more
